LIVING WATER OF CHRIST		그리스도의 생수에 관하여
[ John 4:7 - 4:26 ] - hymn 309 Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. [ JOHN 4:14 ] As I gazed at the intricate etching Christ and the Woman of Samaria by Dutch artist Rembrandt, two interesting details caught my eye. The first was Jesus’ humble pose—leaning over, with His hand over His heart—as he addressed the Samaritan woman. Due to centuries of hostilities between the two groups, Jews typically didn’t “associate with Samaritans” (JOHN 4:9). Yet Jesus reached out with respect and dignity to a woman consid-ered an outcast (VV. 17-18). Jesus knew the woman’s struggles and offered “living water” (V. 10) to satisfy her deepest need—the gift of cleans-ing and life-giving grace available through a restored relation-ship with God. The second detail that caught my eye was the dark shadow covering the woman’s face, symbolizing her initial struggle to rec-ognize Jesus as the Messiah, or Israel’s promised rescuer. When the woman told Jesus, “I know that Messiah is coming” (V. 25) and He responded, “I am he” (V. 26), her eyes and heart were opened (V. 29). As we encounter people who are spiritually thirsty, Jesus’ example reminds me to speak with humility and kindness, pray-ing for God to remove the shadow that “has blinded the minds of unbelievers” (2 CORINTHIANS 4:4) so they can fully understand Christ’s life-changing offer of living water. SAMRA		[ 요한복음 4:7 - 4:26 ] - 찬송가 309 장 내가 주는 물을 마시는 자는 영원히 목마르지 아니하리니 [요한복음 4:14] 네덜란드 화가 렘브란트의 정교한 동판화 작품 ‘그리스도와 사마리아 여인’ 을 감상하던 중 두 가지 흥미로운 세부묘사가 눈에 띄었습니다. 첫째는 예수님이 사마리아 여인에게 말씀하실 때, 몸을 굽혀 가슴에 손을 얹으신 겸손한 자세였습니다. 유대인들은 수 세기에 걸친 적대감 때문에 일반적으로 “사마리아인과 상종하지” 않았습니다(요한복음 4:9). 그러나 예수님은 천대받는 한 여인에게 존중과 존엄성을 보이며 다가가셨습니다(17-18절). 예수님은 그 여인의 고뇌를 아시고 그의 가장 깊은 필요를 채우기 위한 “생수”(10절)를 주셨습니다. 이는 하나님과의 회복된 관계를 통해 얻을 수 있는 정결함과 생명을 주는 은혜의 선물이었습니다. 렘브란트 그림에서 둘째로 눈에 띈 것은 여인의 얼굴에 드리운 어두운 그림자였습니다. 그 그림자는 여인이 예수님을 메시아, 곧 이스라엘의 약속된 구원자로 알기까지 겪었던 첫 고뇌를 상징합니다. 결국 예수님께 “메시아 곧 그리스도라 하는 이가 오실 줄을 내가 아노니”(25절)라고 아뢰자, 예수님은 “내가 그라”(26절)라고 응답하셨고, 그때 여인의 눈과 마음이 열렸습니다(29절). 예수님의 본보기는 우리가 영적으로 갈급한 사람들을 만날 때, 그리스도의 생수를 통해 삶이 변화하게 됨을 온전히 이해하도록 “믿지 아니하는 자들의 마음을 혼미하게”(고린도후서 4:4)하는 그림자를 제거해 달라고 하나님께 기도하면서 겸손함과 친절함을 가지고 말해야 함을 일깨워 줍니다.

7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?”

8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)

13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,

14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won't get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”

17 “I have no husband,” she replied. Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband.

18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”

21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.

23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”

14 내가 주는 물을 마시는 자는 영원히 목마르지 아니하리니 내가 주는 물은 그 속에서 영생하도록 솟아나는 샘물이 되리라

15 여자가 이르되 주여 그런 물을 내게 주사 목마르지도 않고 또 여기 물 길으러 오지도 않게 하옵소서

16 이르시되 가서 네 남편을 불러 오라

17 여자가 대답하여 이르되 나는 남편이 없나이다 예수께서 이르시되 네가 남편이 없다 하는 말이 옳도다

18 너에게 남편 다섯이 있었고 지금 있는 자도 네 남편이 아니니 네 말이 참되도다

21. 예수께서 이르시되 여자여 내 말을 믿으라 이 산에서도 말고 예루살렘에서도 말고 너희가 아버지께 예배할 때가 이르리라

23 아버지께 참되게 예배하는 자들은 영과 진리로 예배할 때가 오나니 곧 이 때라 아버지께서는 자기에게 이렇게 예배하는 자들을 찾으시느니라

24 하나님은 영이시니 예배하는 자가 영과 진리로 예배할지니라

25 여자가 이르되 메시야 곧 그리스도라 하는 이가 오실 줄을 내가 아노니 그가 오시면 모든 것을 우리에게 알려 주시리이다

26 예수께서 이르시되 네게 말하는 내가 그라 하시니라
