GOD’S WORD ENDURES		하나님의 말씀은 영원히 서리라
[ Isaiah 40:1 - 40:8 ] - hymn 204 The word of our God endures forever. [ ISAIAH 40:8 ] In the early 1900s, successful steel businessman Charles Schwab decided to build perhaps the most lavish mansion in New York City. Completed in 1906, his Riverside Drive estate took its inspiration from French chateaus and spanned an entire city block, with lush gardens, grand halls, and opulent interiors. It stood in stark contrast to the rising apartment buildings that would soon define Manhattan. Despite its grandeur, the estate struggled to find a buyer after Schwab’s death. The mansion was too large, too costly, and out of step with real estate trends. Riverside Drive estate was demolished in 1948. Both the mansion and the man faded away. It’s easy for us to point to earthly realities like wealth, ambi-tion, and mansions as destined to fade away. The words of Isaiah 40 remind us, “All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field” (V. 6). Isaiah wrote to people endur-ing God’s discipline for their faithlessness. After He had corrected them, God would comfort them (VV. 1-2). What the prophet says about people, grass, and flowers is true (VV. 6-7). But the truth of God Himself? It will outlast men and mansions and wealth and ambition and accolades. Yes, “the word of our God endures forever” (V. 8). It’s good to keep in mind how fragile we are. And it’s wise to remember God’s word is everlasting. JOHN BLASE		[ 이사야 40:1 - 40:8 ] - 찬송가 204 장 우리 하나님의 말씀은 영원히 서리라 [이사야 40:8] 1900년대 초, 성공한 철강 사업가 찰스 슈왑은 뉴욕시에서 가장 호화 로운 저택을 짓기로 결심합니다. 1906년에 완공된 그의 리버사이드 드라이브 저택은 프랑스 대저택에서 영감을 받아 도시의 한 구획 전체에 걸쳐 숲이 무성한 정원과 웅장한 홀, 그리고 호화로운 실내 장식을 갖추었습니다. 이 저택은 곧 맨해튼을 상징하게 될 고층 아파트들과 극명한 대조를 이루었습니다. 그러나 그 웅장한 저택은 슈왑이 죽은 후 구매자를 찾는 데 어려움을 겪었습니다. 너무 크고 너무 많은 비용이 들어 당시 부동산 시장의 흐름과 맞지 않았기 때문입니다. 결국 리버사이드 드라이브 저택은 1948년에 철거되어 그 집주인과 함께 사라져 버렸습니다. 우리는 부와 야망과 저택과 같은 세상의 것들이 결국은 없어질 것임을 잘 알고 있습니다. 이사야 40장은 “모든 육체는 풀이요 그의 모든 아름다움은 들의 꽃과 같다”(6절)고 일깨워 줍니다. 이사야는 믿음이 없어서 하나님의 징계를 받는 사람들에게 그렇게 썼습니다. 하나님은 그들의 잘못을 고치신 후에 위로해 주실 것입니다(1-2절). 선지자가 사람과 풀과 꽃에 대해 말한 것은 사실입니다(6-7 절). 그러나 하나님 자신의 진리는 사람들, 저택, 부와 야망과 명예보다 오래 지속될 것입니다. 그렇습니다. “우리 하나님의 말씀은 영원히 존재합니다”(8 절, 현대인의 성경). 우리가 얼마나 연약한 존재인지 명심하는 것이 좋습니다. 그리고 하나님의 말씀이 영원하다는 것을 기억하는 것이 지혜롭습니다.

1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.

2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the LORD's hand double for all her sins.

3 A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

4 Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.

5 And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

6 A voice says, “Cry out.” And I said, “What shall I cry?” “All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.

7 The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass.

8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

2 너희는 예루살렘의 마음에 닿도록 말하며 그것에게 외치라 그 노역의 때가 끝났고 그 죄악이 사함을 받았느니라 그의 모든 죄로 말미암아 여호와의 손에서 벌을 배나 받았느니라 할지니라 하시니라

3 외치는 자의 소리여 이르되 너희는 광야에서 여호와의 길을 예비하라 사막에서 우리 하나님의 대로를 평탄하게 하라

4 골짜기마다 돋우어지며 산마다, 언덕마다 낮아지며 고르지 아니한 곳이 평탄하게 되며 험한 곳이 평지가 될 것이요

5 여호와의 영광이 나타나고 모든 육체가 그것을 함께 보리라 이는 여호와의 입이 말씀하셨느니라

6 말하는 자의 소리여 이르되 외치라 대답하되 내가 무엇이라 외치리이까 하니 이르되 모든 육체는 풀이요 그의 모든 아름다움은 들의 꽃과 같으니

7 풀은 마르고 꽃이 시듦은 여호와의 기운이 그 위에 붊이라 이 백성은 실로 풀이로다

8 풀은 마르고 꽃은 시드나 우리 하나님의 말씀은 영원히 서리라 하라
