1And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, so the LORD gave them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years. 2 There was a certain man of Zorah, of the tribe of the Danites, whose name was Manoah. And his wife was barren and had no children. 3 And the angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, “Behold, you are barren and have not borne children, but you shall conceive and bear a son. 4 Therefore be careful and drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, 5 for behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. No razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb, and he shall begin to save Israel from the hand of the Philistines.” 6 Then the woman came and told her husband, “A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of the angel of God, very awesome. I did not ask him where he was from, and he did not tell me his name, 7 but he said to me, ‘Behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. So then drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death.’” 8 Then Manoah prayed to the LORD and said, “O Lord, please let the man of God whom you sent come again to us and teach us what we are to do with the child who will be born.” 9 And God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field. But Manoah her husband was not with her. 10 So the woman ran quickly and told her husband, “Behold, the man who came to me the other day has appeared to me.” 11 And Manoah arose and went after his wife and came to the man and said to him, “Are you the man who spoke to this woman?” And he said, “I am.” 12 And Manoah said, “Now when your words come true, what is to be the child’s manner of life, and what is his mission?” 13 And the angel of the LORD said to Manoah, “Of all that I said to the woman let her be careful. 14 She may not eat of anything that comes from the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, or eat any unclean thing. All that I commanded her let her observe.”
1이스라엘 자손이 다시, 주님께서 보시는 앞에서 악한 일을 저질렀다. 그래서 주님께서는 그들을 사십 년 동안 블레셋 사람들의 손에 넘겨 주셨다. 2 그 때에 소라 땅에 단 지파의 가족 가운데 마노아라는 사람이 있었는데, 그의 아내는 임신할 수 없어서 자식을 낳지 못하였다. 3 주님의 천사가 그 여인에게 나타나 말하였다. “보아라, 네가 지금까지는 임신할 수 없어서 아이를 낳지 못하였으나, 이제는 임신하여 아들을 낳게 될 것이다. 4 그러므로 이제부터 조심하여, 포도주나 독한 술을 마시지 말아라. 부정한 것은 어떤 것도 먹어서는 안 된다. 5 네가 임신하여 아들을 낳을 것인데, 그 아이의 머리에 면도칼을 대어서는 안 된다. 그 아이는 모태에서부터 이미 하나님께 바쳐진 나실 사람이기 때문이다. 바로 그가 블레셋 사람의 손에서 이스라엘을 구하는 일을 시작할 것이다.” 6 여인은 곧바로 남편에게 가서 말하였다. “하나님의 사람이 나에게 오셨는데, 그분의 모습이 하나님의 천사의 모습과 같아서, 너무나 두려웠습니다. 그래서 나는 그분이 어디서 오셨는지 감히 묻지도 못하였고, 또 그분도 나에게 자기 이름을 일러주지 않았습니다. 7 그런데 그분이 내게 말하기를, 내가 임신하여 아들을 낳을 것이니, 이제부터 포도주와 독한 술을 마시지 말고, 부정한 것은 어떤 것도 먹어서는 안 된다고 말했습니다. 그 아이는 모태에서부터 죽는 날까지 하나님께 바쳐진 나실 사람으로 살아야 하기 때문이라고 했습니다.” 8 이 말을 듣고 마노아가 주님께 기도드렸다. “주님, 우리에게 보내셨던 하나님의 사람을 우리에게 다시 오게 하셔서, 태어날 아이에게 어떻게 하여야 할지를 우리에게 가르치게 하여 주십시오.” 9 주님께서 마노아의 기도를 들어주셔서, 주님의 천사가 다시 여인에게 왔다. 그 때에 그 여인은 밭에 앉아 있었는데, 남편 마노아는 아내와 함께 있지 않았다. 10 그래서 그 여인은 급히 달려가 남편에게 말하였다. “와 보세요. 저번에 나에게 오셨던 그분이 지금 나타나셨어요.” 11 마노아는 일어나 곧 아내를 따라가서, 그 사람에게 이르렀다. 마노아가 그를 보고서, 저번에 자기의 처에게 말하던 그분이냐고 물었다. 그가 그렇다고 대답하자, 12 마노아는 그에게, 지난번에 한 그 말이 이루어질 때에 그 아이가 지켜야 할 규칙은 무엇이며, 또 그 아이가 할 일은 무엇이냐고 물었다. 13 주님의 천사가 마노아에게 일러주었다. 주님의 천사가 마노아의 아내에게 일러준 모든 것을 그 아이가 지켜야 하고, 14 마노아의 아내는 포도나무에서 나는 것은 어떤 것도 먹어서는 안 되고, 포도주와 독한 술을 마시지 않아야 하며, 부정한 것은 어떤 것도 먹어서는 안 되고, 주님의 천사가 마노아의 아내에게 명령한 모든 것을 마노아의 아내가 지켜야 한다고 말해 주었다.
