1After two whole years, Pharaoh dreamed that he was standing by the Nile, 2 and behold, there came up out of the Nile seven cows, attractive and plump, and they fed in the reed grass. 3 And behold, seven other cows, ugly and thin, came up out of the Nile after them, and stood by the other cows on the bank of the Nile. 4 And the ugly, thin cows ate up the seven attractive, plump cows. And Pharaoh awoke. 5 And he fell asleep and dreamed a second time. And behold, seven ears of grain, plump and good, were growing on one stalk. 6 And behold, after them sprouted seven ears, thin and blighted by the east wind. 7 And the thin ears swallowed up the seven plump, full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and behold, it was a dream. 8 So in the morning his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was none who could interpret them to Pharaoh. 9 Then the chief cupbearer said to Pharaoh, “I remember my offenses today. 10 When Pharaoh was angry with his servants and put me and the chief baker in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, 11 we dreamed on the same night, he and I, each having a dream with its own interpretation. 12 A young Hebrew was there with us, a servant of the captain of the guard. When we told him, he interpreted our dreams to us, giving an interpretation to each man according to his dream. 13 And as he interpreted to us, so it came about. I was restored to my office, and the baker was hanged.” 14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they quickly brought him out of the pit. And when he had shaved himself and changed his clothes, he came in before Pharaoh. 15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” 16 Joseph answered Pharaoh, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.” 17 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Behold, in my dream I was standing on the banks of the Nile. 18 Seven cows, plump and attractive, came up out of the Nile and fed in the reed grass. 19 Seven other cows came up after them, poor and very ugly and thin, such as I had never seen in all the land of Egypt. 20 And the thin, ugly cows ate up the first seven plump cows, 21 but when they had eaten them no one would have known that they had eaten them, for they were still as ugly as at the beginning. Then I awoke. 22 I also saw in my dream seven ears growing on one stalk, full and good. 23 Seven ears, withered, thin, and blighted by the east wind, sprouted after them, 24 and the thin ears swallowed up the seven good ears. And I told it to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me.”
1그로부터 만 이 년이 지나서, 바로가 꿈을 꾸었다. 그가 나일 강 가에 서 있는데, 2 잘생기고, 살이 찐 암소 일곱 마리가 강에서 올라와서, 갈밭에서 풀을 뜯는다. 3 그 뒤를 이어서, 흉측하고 야윈 다른 암소 일곱 마리가 강에서 올라와서, 먼저 올라온 소들과 함께 강가에 선다. 4 그 흉측하고 야윈 암소들이, 잘생기고 살이 찐 암소들을 잡아먹는다. 바로는 잠에서 깨어났다. 5 그가 다시 잠들어서, 또 꿈을 꾸었다. 이삭 일곱 개가 보인다. 토실토실하고 잘 여문 이삭 일곱 개가 나오는데, 그것들은 모두 한 줄기에서 나와서 자란 것들이다. 6 그 뒤를 이어서, 또 다른 이삭 일곱 개가 피어 나오는데, 열풍이 불어서, 야위고 마른 것들이다. 7 그 야윈 이삭이, 토실토실하게 잘 여문 이삭 일곱 개를 삼킨다. 바로가 깨어나 보니, 꿈이다. 8 아침에 그는 마음이 뒤숭숭하여, 사람을 보내어서 이집트의 마술사와 현인들을 모두 불러들이고, 그가 꾼 꿈 이야기를 그들에게 하였다. 그러나 아무도 그에게 그 꿈을 해몽하여 주는 사람이 없었다. 9 그 때에 술잔을 올리는 시종장이 바로에게 말하였다. “제가 꼭 했어야 할 일을 못한 것이 오늘에야 생각납니다. 10 임금님께서 종들에게 노하셔서, 저와 빵을 구워 올리는 시종장을 경호대장 집 감옥에 가두신 일이 있습니다. 11 저희들이 같은 날 밤에 각각 꿈을 꾸었는데, 두 꿈의 내용이 너무나 달랐습니다. 12 그 때에 그 곳에, 경호대장의 종인 히브리 소년이 저희와 함께 있었습니다. 저희가 꾼 꿈 이야기를 그에게 해주었더니, 그가 그 꿈을 풀었습니다. 저희 두 사람에게 제각기 그 꿈을 해몽하여 주었던 것입니다. 13 그리고 그가 해몽한 대로, 꼭 그대로 되어서, 저는 복직되고, 그 사람은 처형되었습니다.” 14 이 말을 듣고서, 바로가 사람을 보내어 요셉을 불러오게 하였고, 사람들은 곧바로 그를 구덩이에서 끌어냈다. 요셉이 수염을 깎고, 옷을 갈아입고, 바로 앞으로 나아가니, 15 바로가 요셉에게 말하였다. “내가 꿈을 하나 꾸었는데, 그것을 해몽할 수 있는 사람이 없다. 나는 네가 꿈 이야기를 들으면 잘 푼다고 들었다. 그래서 너를 불렀다.” 16 요셉이 바로에게 대답하였다. “저에게는 그런 능력이 없습니다. 임금님께서 기뻐하실 대답은, 하나님이 해주실 것입니다.” 17 바로가 요셉에게 말하였다. “꿈에 내가 나일 강 가에 서 있는데, 18 살이 찌고 잘생긴 암소 일곱 마리가 강에서 올라와서, 갈밭에서 풀을 뜯었다. 19 그것들의 뒤를 이어서, 약하고 아주 흉측하고 야윈 다른 암소 일곱 마리가 올라오는데, 이집트 온 땅에서 내가 일찍이 본 일이 없는 흉측하기 짝이 없는 그런 암소들이었다. 20 그 야위고 흉측한 암소들은 먼저 올라온 기름진 암소 일곱 마리를 잡아먹었다. 21 흉측한 암소들은 살이 찐 암소들을 잡아먹었는데도, 여전히 굶은 암소처럼 흉측하였다. 그리고는 내가 깨어났다. 22 내가 또다시 꿈에 보니, 한 줄기에서 자란 이삭 일곱 개가 있는데, 잘 여물고 실한 것들이었다. 23 그것들의 뒤를 이어서, 다른 이삭 일곱 개가 피어 나오는데, 열풍이 불어서, 시들고 야위고 마른 것들이었다. 24 그 야윈 이삭이 잘 여문 일곱 이삭을 삼켜 버렸다. 내가 이 꿈 이야기를 마술사와 현인들에게 들려주었지만, 아무도 나에게 그 꿈을 해몽해 주지 못하였다.”
