21Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria, 22 this is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning him: “‘She despises you, she scorns you—the virgin daughter of Zion; she wags her head behind you— the daughter of Jerusalem. 23 “‘Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes to the heights? Against the Holy One of Israel! 24 By your servants you have mocked the Lord, and you have said, With my many chariots I have gone up the heights of the mountains, to the far recesses of Lebanon, to cut down its tallest cedars, its choicest cypresses, to come to its remotest height, its most fruitful forest. 25 I dug wells and drank waters, to dry up with the sole of my foot all the streams of Egypt. 26 “‘Have you not heard that I determined it long ago? I planned from days of old what now I bring to pass, that you should make fortified cities crash into heaps of ruins, 27 while their inhabitants, shorn of strength, are dismayed and confounded, and have become like plants of the field and like tender grass, like grass on the housetops, blighted before it is grown. 28 “‘I know your sitting down and your going out and coming in, and your raging against me. 29 Because you have raged against me and your complacency has come to my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will turn you back on the way by which you came.’ 30 “And this shall be the sign for you: this year you shall eat what grows of itself, and in the second year what springs from that. Then in the third year sow and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit. 31 And the surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward. 32 For out of Jerusalem shall go a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. 33 “Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city or shoot an arrow there or come before it with a shield or cast up a siege mound against it. 34 By the way that he came, by the same he shall return, and he shall not come into this city, declares the LORD. 35 For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for the sake of my servant David.” 36 And the angel of the LORD went out and struck down185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians. And when people arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies. 37 Then Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and returned home and lived at Nineveh. 38 And as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, struck him down with the sword. And after they escaped into the land of Ararat, Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.
21아모스의 아들 이사야가 히스기야에게 사람을 보내어, 이렇게 말하였다. “주 이스라엘의 하나님께서는, 임금님께서 앗시리아 왕 산헤립의 일 때문에 주님께 올린 그 기도를 들으셨다고 말씀하셨습니다. 22 앗시리아 왕을 두고, 주님께서 다음과 같이 말씀하셨습니다.” “처녀 딸 시온이 너 산헤립을 경멸하고 비웃는다. 딸 예루살렘이 오히려 물러나는 너의 뒷모습을 보며, 머리를 흔든다. 23 네가 감히 누구를 모욕하고 멸시하였느냐? 네가 누구에게 큰소리를 쳤느냐? 이스라엘의 거룩하신 분께, 네가 감히 너의 눈을 부릅떴느냐? 24 네가 종들을 보내어서 나 주를 조롱하며 말하였다. ‘내가 수많은 병거를 몰아, 높은 산 이 꼭대기에서 저 꼭대기까지, 레바논의 막다른 곳까지 깊숙히 들어가서, 키 큰 백향목과 아름다운 잣나무를 베어 버리고, 울창한 숲 속 깊숙이 들어가서, 그 끝 간 데까지 들어갔고, 25 그리고는 땅을 파서 다른 나라의 물을 마시며, 발바닥으로 밟기만 하고서도, 이집트의 모든 강물을 말렸다.’ 26 산헤립아, 너는 듣지 못하였느냐? 그런 일은 이미 내가 오래 전에 결정한 것들이고, 아득한 옛날부터 이미 내가 계획한 것들이다. 이제 내가 그것을 이루었을 뿐이다. 그래서 네가 견고한 요새들을 돌무더기로 만들고 27 여러 민족의 간담을 서늘하게 하고, 공포에 질리게 하고, 부끄럽게 하였다. 민족들은 초목과 같고, 자라기도 전에 말라 버리는 풀포기나 지붕 위의 잡초와 같았다. 28 나는 다 알고 있다. 네가 앉고 서는 것, 네가 나가고 들어오는 것, 네가 나에게 분노를 품고 있는 것도, 나는 모두 다 알고 있다. 29 네가 나에게 품고 있는 분노와 오만을, 이미 오래 전에 내가 직접 들었기에, 내가 너의 코를 갈고리로 꿰고, 너의 입에 재갈을 물려, 네가 왔던 그 길로 너를 되돌아가게 하겠다.” 30 “히스기야 임금님, 주님께서 임금님께 다음과 같은 증거를 보이실 것입니다. 금년에는 백성이, 들에서 저절로 자라난 곡식을 먹고, 내년에도 들에서 저절로 자라난 곡식을 먹을 것입니다. 그러나 그 다음 해에는, 백성이 씨를 뿌리고 곡식을 거둘 것이며, 포도밭을 가꾸어서 그 열매를 먹을 것입니다. 31 유다 사람들 가운데서 난을 피하여 살아남은 사람들이, 다시 땅 아래로 깊이 뿌리를 내리고, 위로 열매를 맺을 것입니다.” 32 ‘남은 사람들이 예루살렘에서부터 나오고, 환난을 피한 사람들이 시온 산에서 나올 것이다.’ 만군의 주님께서 정열을 가지고서 이 일을 이루실 것입니다. 33 그러므로 앗시리아 왕을 두고, 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “그는 이 도성에 들어오지 못하며, 이리로 활도 한 번 쏘아 보지 못할 것이다. 방패를 앞세워 접근하지도 못하며, 성을 공격할 토성을 쌓지도 못할 것이다. 34 그는 왔던 길로 되돌아갈 것이고, 이 도성 안으로는 절대로 들어오지 못한다. 이것은 나 주의 말이다. 35 나는 나의 명성을 지키려 하여서라도 이 도성을 보호하고, 나의 종 다윗을 보아서라도 이 도성을 구원하겠다.” 36 그런 다음에 주님의 천사가 나아가서, 앗시리아 군의 진영에서 십팔만 오천 명을 쳐 죽였다. 다음날 아침이 밝았을 때에, 그들은 모두 죽은 시체로 발견되었다. 37 앗시리아 왕 산헤립은 그 곳을 떠나, 니느웨 도성으로 돌아가서 머물렀다. 38 그러던 어느 날, 그가 자기 신 니스록의 신전에서 예배하고 있을 때에, 그의 두 아들 아드람멜렉과 사레셀이 그를 칼로 쳐 죽이고, 아라랏 땅으로 도망하였다. 그 뒤를 이어 그의 아들 에살핫돈이 왕이 되었다.
