21Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife that I may go in to her, for my time is completed.” 22 So Laban gathered together all the people of the place and made a feast. 23 But in the evening he took his daughter Leah and brought her to Jacob, and he went in to her. 24 (Laban gave his female servant Zilpah to his daughter Leah to be her servant.) 25 And in the morning, behold, it was Leah! And Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?” 26 Laban said, “It is not so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn. 27 Complete the week of this one, and we will give you the other also in return for serving me another seven years.” 28 Jacob did so, and completed her week. Then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel to be his wife. 29 (Laban gave his female servant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel to be her servant.) 30 So Jacob went in to Rachel also, and he loved Rachel more than Leah, and served Laban for another seven years. 31 When the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. 32 And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said, “Because the LORD has looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.” 33 She conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Because the LORD has heard that I am hated, he has given me this son also.” And she called his name Simeon. 34 Again she conceived and bore a son, and said, “Now this time my husband will be attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi. 35 And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” Therefore she called his name Judah. Then she ceased bearing.
21칠 년이 지난 뒤에, 야곱이 라반에게 말하였다. “약속한 기한이 다 되었습니다. 이제 장가를 들게 해주십시오. 라헬과 결혼하겠습니다.” 22 라반이 그 고장 사람들을 다 청해 놓고, 잔치를 베풀었다. 23 밤이 되었을 때에, 라반은 큰 딸 레아를 데려다가 신방으로 들여보냈는데, 야곱은 그것도 모르고, 레아와 동침하였다. 24 라반은 여종 실바를 자기 딸 레아에게 몸종으로 주었다. 25 아침이 되어서 야곱이 눈을 떠 보니, 레아가 아닌가! 야곱이 라반에게 말하였다. “외삼촌께서 저에게 이러실 수가 있습니까? 제가 그 동안 라헬에게 장가를 들려고 외삼촌 일을 해 드린 것이 아닙니까? 외삼촌께서 왜 저를 속이셨습니까?” 26 라반이 대답하였다. “큰 딸을 두고서 작은 딸부터 시집보내는 것은, 이 고장의 법이 아닐세. 27 그러니 이레 동안 초례 기간을 채우게. 그런 다음에 작은 아이도 자네에게 주겠네. 그 대신에 자네는 또 칠 년 동안 내가 맡기는 일을 해야 하네.” 28 야곱은 그렇게 하였다. 그가 레아와 이레 동안 지내고 나니, 라반은 자기 딸 라헬을 그에게 아내로 주었다. 29 라반은 여종 빌하를 자기 딸 라헬에게 몸종으로 주었다. 30 야곱이 라헬과 동침하였다. 야곱은 레아보다, 라헬을 더 사랑하였다. 그는 또다시 칠 년 동안 라반의 일을 하였다. 31 주님께서는, 레아가 남편의 사랑을 받지 못하는 것을 보시고, 레아의 태를 열어 주셨다. 라헬은 임신을 하지 못하였으나 32 레아는 마침내 임신을 하여 아들을 낳았다. 그는 속으로 “주님께서 나의 고통을 살피시고, 나에게 아들을 주셨구나. 이제는 남편도 나를 사랑하겠지” 하면서, 아기 이름을 르우벤이라고 하였다. 33 그가 또 임신을 하여 아들을 낳았다. 그는 속으로 “주님께서, 내가 남편의 사랑을 받지 못하여 하소연하는 소리를 들으시고, 이렇게 또 아들을 주셨구나” 하면서, 아이 이름을 시므온이라고 하였다. 34 그가 또 임신을 하여 아들을 낳았다. 그는 속으로 “내가 아들을 셋이나 낳았으니, 이제는 남편도 별 수 없이 나에게 단단히 매이겠지” 하면서, 아이 이름을 레위라고 하였다. 35 그가 또 임신을 하여 아들을 낳았다. 그는 속으로 “이제야말로 내가 주님을 찬양하겠다” 하면서, 아이 이름을 유다라고 하였다. 레아의 출산이 그쳤다.
