1Now Solomon purposed to build a temple for the name of the LORD, and a royal palace for himself. 2 And Solomon assigned70,000 men to bear burdens and80,000 to quarry in the hill country, and3,600 to oversee them. 3 And Solomon sent word to Hiram the king of Tyre: “As you dealt with David my father and sent him cedar to build himself a house to dwell in, so deal with me. 4 Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of the LORD my God and dedicate it to him for the burning of incense of sweet spices before him, and for the regular arrangement of the showbread, and for burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths and the new moons and the appointed feasts of the LORD our God, as ordained forever for Israel. 5 The house that I am to build will be great, for our God is greater than all gods. 6 But who is able to build him a house, since heaven, even highest heaven, cannot contain him? Who am I to build a house for him, except as a place to make offerings before him? 7 So now send me a man skilled to work in gold, silver, bronze, and iron, and in purple, crimson, and blue fabrics, trained also in engraving, to be with the skilled workers who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, whom David my father provided. 8 Send me also cedar, cypress, and algum timber from Lebanon, for I know that your servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon. And my servants will be with your servants, 9 to prepare timber for me in abundance, for the house I am to build will be great and wonderful. 10 I will give for your servants, the woodsmen who cut timber,20,000 cors of crushed wheat,20,000 cors of barley,20,000 baths of wine, and20,000 baths of oil.” 11 Then Hiram the king of Tyre answered in a letter that he sent to Solomon, “Because the LORD loves his people, he has made you king over them.” 12 Hiram also said, “Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who has given King David a wise son, who has discretion and understanding, who will build a temple for the LORD and a royal palace for himself. 13 “Now I have sent a skilled man, who has understanding, Huram-abi, 14 the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre. He is trained to work in gold, silver, bronze, iron, stone, and wood, and in purple, blue, and crimson fabrics and fine linen, and to do all sorts of engraving and execute any design that may be assigned him, with your craftsmen, the craftsmen of my lord, David your father. 15 Now therefore the wheat and barley, oil and wine, of which my lord has spoken, let him send to his servants. 16 And we will cut whatever timber you need from Lebanon and bring it to you in rafts by sea to Joppa, so that you may take it up to Jerusalem.” 17 Then Solomon counted all the resident aliens who were in the land of Israel, after the census of them that David his father had taken, and there were found153,600. 18 Seventy thousand of them he assigned to bear burdens,80,000 to quarry in the hill country, and3,600 as overseers to make the people work.
1솔로몬은 주님의 이름을 받들어 모실 성전과 자기의 궁전을 짓기로 작정하였다. 2 그래서 솔로몬은 짐꾼 칠만 명, 산에서 돌을 떠낼 사람 팔만 명, 그들을 감독할 사람 삼천육백 명을 뽑았다. 3 솔로몬은 또 두로의 히람 왕에게 사람을 보내서, 다음과 같이 부탁을 하였다. “내 선친 다윗이 친히 거처할 궁을 지을 때에 임금님께서 백향목을 보내 주신 것처럼, 내게도 그렇게 해주시기를 바랍니다. 4 이제 나는 주 나의 하나님의 이름을 모실 성전을 지어 바치고, 그분 앞에서 향기로운 향을 사르며, 늘 빵을 차려 놓으며, 안식일과 초하루와 주 우리의 하나님께서 정하여 주신 절기마다, 아침저녁으로 번제물을 바치려고 합니다. 이것은 이스라엘이 언제까지나 지켜야 할 일입니다. 5 우리의 하나님은 모든 신들보다 크신 분이시므로, 내가 지을 성전도 커야 합니다. 6 하늘도, 하늘 위의 하늘마저도 그분을 모시기에 좁을 터인데, 누가 하나님을 모실 성전을 지을 수 있겠습니까? 하물며, 내가 무엇이기에 그분께 성전을 지어 드릴 수 있겠습니까? 다만 그분 앞에 향이나 피워 올리려는 뜻밖에 없습니다. 7 이제 임금님께서는, 금은과 놋쇠와 쇠를 다룰 줄 알며, 자주색이나 홍색이나 청색 천을 짤 줄 알며, 조각도 할 줄 아는 기능공을 한 사람 보내 주시기 바랍니다. 그러면 그가 여기 유다와 예루살렘에 있는 나의 기능공들을 데리고 일할 것입니다. 그들은 내 선친 다윗께서 훈련시켜 둔 사람들입니다. 8 또 레바논에서 백향목과 잣나무와 백단목도 보내 주시기 바랍니다. 임금님께서 나무를 잘 베는 기술자들을 거느리고 있음을, 내가 잘 알고 있습니다. 내 부하들도 그들과 함께 일할 것입니다. 9 내가 크고 화려한 성전을 지으려고 하니, 재목을 많이 준비해 주시기 바랍니다. 10 나무를 베는 벌목꾼들에게는 양곡을 주겠습니다. 밀가루 이만 섬, 보리 이만 섬, 포도주 이만 말, 기름 이만 말을 임금님의 일꾼들에게 주겠습니다.” 11 두로의 히람 왕이 솔로몬에게 회신을 보냈다. “주님께서 그 백성을 사랑하셔서, 그대를 왕으로 세우시고, 그들을 다스리게 하셨습니다.” 12 히람의 글은 다음과 같이 이어졌다. “하늘과 땅을 만드신 주 이스라엘의 하나님께서는 찬양을 받으실 분입니다. 그분은 다윗 왕에게 명철과 총명을 고루 갖춘 슬기로운 아들을 주셔서, 주님께 성전을 지어 바치게 하시고, 자신의 왕국을 위하여 궁전을 짓게 하셨습니다. 13 이제 총명을 갖춘 기능공 한 사람을 보내 드리겠습니다. 이런 일의 전문가인 후람이라는 사람입니다. 14 이 사람은 단에 사는 여자 가운데 한 여자가 낳은 아들입니다. 그의 아버지는 두로 사람입니다. 이 사람은 금은과 놋쇠와 쇠와 보석과 나무를 다룰 줄 알며, 자주색과 청색 모시와 홍색 천을 짤 줄 알며, 모든 조각을 잘 합니다. 어떠한 것을 부탁받더라도 모든 모양을 다 만들어 낼 수 있는 사람이니, 왕의 기능공들과, 내 상전이시며 임금님의 선왕이신 다윗의 기능공들과, 함께 일을 하게 하십시오. 15 임금님께서 말씀하신 밀과 보리와 기름과 포도주는 내 일꾼들에게 보내 주십시오. 16 우리가 레바논에서, 임금님께 필요한 만큼 나무를 베어 뗏목으로 엮어서, 바다로 욥바까지 띄워 보낼 터이니, 그 뗏목을 예루살렘까지 운반하는 것은 임금님께서 하십시오.” 17 솔로몬의 아버지 다윗이 전에 이스라엘 땅에 살던 이방인의 인구를 조사한 일이 있는데, 솔로몬이 다시 조사해 보니, 그 수가 모두 십오만 삼천육백 명이었다. 18 그 가운데서 칠만 명은 짐꾼으로 뽑고, 팔만 명은 산에서 돌을 떠내게 하였다. 그리고 삼천육백 명을 뽑아서, 백성이 하는 일을 감독하게 하였다.
