28:1Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and directed him, “You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women. 2 Arise, go to Paddan-aram to the house of Bethuel your mother's father, and take as your wife from there one of the daughters of Laban your mother's brother. 3 God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of peoples. 4 May he give the blessing of Abraham to you and to your offspring with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings that God gave to Abraham!” 5 Thus Isaac sent Jacob away. And he went to Paddan-aram, to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother. 6 Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he directed him, “You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women,” 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan-aram. 8 So when Esau saw that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father, 9 Esau went to Ishmael and took as his wife, besides the wives he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth. 10 Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran. 11 And he came to a certain place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. 12 And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! 13 And behold, the LORD stood above it and said, “I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. 14 Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” 16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.” 17 And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” 18 So early in the morning Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. 19 He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first. 20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, 21 so that I come again to my father's house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God, 22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you.”
1이삭이 야곱을 불러서, 그에게 복을 빌어 주고 당부하였다. “너는 가나안 사람의 딸들 가운데서 아내를 맞이하지 말아라. 2 이제 곧 밧단아람에 계시는 브두엘 외할아버지 댁으로 가서, 거기에서 너의 외삼촌 라반의 딸들 가운데서 네 아내가 될 사람을 찾아서 결혼하여라. 3 전능하신 하나님이 너에게 복을 주셔서, 너로 생육하고 번성하게 하시고, 마침내 네가 여러 민족을 낳게 하실 것이다. 4 하나님이 아브라함에게 허락하신 복을 너와 네 자손에게도 주셔서, 네가 지금 나그네살이를 하고 있는 이 땅, 하나님이 아브라함에게 주신 이 땅을, 네가 유산으로 받을 수 있도록 해주시기를 바란다.” 5 이렇게 복을 빌어 준 뒤에, 이삭은 야곱을 보냈다. 야곱은 밧단아람으로 가서, 라반에게 이르렀다. 라반은 아람 사람 브두엘의 아들이며, 야곱과 에서의 어머니인 리브가의 오라버니이다. 6 에서는, 이삭이 야곱에게 복을 빌어 주고, 그를 밧단아람으로 보내어, 거기에서 아내감을 찾게 하였다는 것을 알았다. 에서는, 이삭이 야곱에게 복을 빌어 주면서, 가나안 사람의 딸들 가운데서 아내감을 찾아서는 안 된다고 당부하였다는 것과, 7 야곱이 아버지와 어머니의 말에 순종하여, 밧단아람으로 떠났다는 것을 알았다. 8 에서는, 자기 아버지 이삭이 가나안 사람의 딸들을 싫어한다는 것을 알고, 9 이미 결혼하여 아내들이 있는데도, 이스마엘에게 가서, 그의 딸 마할랏을 또다시 아내로 맞이하였다. 마할랏은 느바욧의 누이이며, 아브라함의 손녀이다.10야곱이 브엘세바를 떠나서, 하란으로 가다가, 11 어떤 곳에 이르렀을 때에, 해가 저물었으므로, 거기에서 하룻밤을 지내게 되었다. 그는 돌 하나를 주워서 베개로 삼고, 거기에 누워서 자다가, 12 꿈을 꾸었다. 그가 보니, 땅에 층계가 있고, 그 꼭대기가 하늘에 닿아 있고, 하나님의 천사들이 그 층계를 오르락내리락 하고 있었다. 13 주님께서 그 층계 위에 서서 말씀하셨다. “나는 주, 너의 할아버지 아브라함을 보살펴 준 하나님이요, 너의 아버지 이삭을 보살펴 준 하나님이다. 네가 지금 누워 있는 이 땅을, 내가 너와 너의 자손에게 주겠다. 14 너의 자손이 땅의 티끌처럼 많아질 것이며, 동서남북 사방으로 퍼질 것이다. 이 땅 위의 모든 백성이 너와 너의 자손 덕에 복을 받게 될 것이다. 15 내가 너와 함께 있어서, 네가 어디로 가든지 너를 지켜 주며, 내가 너를 다시 이 땅으로 데려 오겠다. 내가 너에게 약속한 것을 다 이루기까지, 내가 너를 떠나지 않겠다.” 16 야곱은 잠에서 깨어서, 혼자 생각하였다. ‘주님께서 분명히 이곳에 계시는데도, 내가 미처 그것을 몰랐구나.’ 17 그는 두려워하면서 중얼거렸다. “이 얼마나 두려운 곳인가! 이곳은 다름 아닌 하나님의 집이다. 여기가 바로 하늘로 들어가는 문이다.” 18 야곱은 다음날 아침 일찍이 일어나서, 베개 삼아 벤 그 돌을 가져다가 기둥으로 세우고, 그 위에 기름을 붓고, 19 그 곳 이름을 베델이라고 하였다. 그 성의 본래 이름은 루스였다. 20 야곱은 이렇게 서원하였다. “하나님께서 저와 함께 계시고, 제가 가는 이 길에서 저를 지켜 주시고, 먹을 것과 입을 것을 주시고, 21 제가 안전하게 저의 아버지 집으로 돌아가게 해주시면, 주님이 저의 하나님이 되실 것이며, 22 제가 기둥으로 세운 이 돌이 하나님의 집이 될 것이며, 하나님께서 저에게 주신 모든 것에서 열의 하나를 하나님께 드리겠습니다.”
