50Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, “The thing has come from the LORD; we cannot speak to you bad or good.
51 Behold, Rebekah is before you; take her and go, and let her be the wife of your master's son, as the LORD has spoken.”
52 When Abraham's servant heard their words, he bowed himself to the earth before the LORD.
53 And the servant brought out jewelry of silver and of gold, and garments, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave to her brother and to her mother costly ornaments.
54 And he and the men who were with him ate and drank, and they spent the night there. When they arose in the morning, he said, “Send me away to my master.”
55 Her brother and her mother said, “Let the young woman remain with us a while, at least ten days; after that she may go.”
56 But he said to them, “Do not delay me, since the LORD has prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to my master.”
57 They said, “Let us call the young woman and ask her.”
58 And they called Rebekah and said to her, “Will you go with this man?” She said, “I will go.”
59 So they sent away Rebekah their sister and her nurse, and Abraham's servant and his men.
60 And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, “Our sister, may you become thousands of ten thousands, and may your offspring possess the gate of those who hate him!”
61 Then Rebekah and her young women arose and rode on the camels and followed the man. Thus the servant took Rebekah and went his way.
62 Now Isaac had returned from Beer-lahai-roi and was dwelling in the Negeb.
63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field toward evening. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, there were camels coming.
64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she dismounted from the camel
65 and said to the servant, “Who is that man, walking in the field to meet us?” The servant said, “It is my master.” So she took her veil and covered herself.
66 And the servant told Isaac all the things that he had done.
67 Then Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother and took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

50라반과 브두엘이 대답하였다. “이 일은 주님이 하시는 일입니다. 우리로서는 좋다거나 나쁘다거나 말할 수가 없습니다.
51 여기에 리브가가 있으니, 데리고 가서, 주님이 지시하신 대로, 주인 아들의 아내로 삼으십시오.”
52 아브라함의 종은 그들이 하는 말을 듣고서, 땅에 엎드려 주님께 경배하고,
53 금은 패물과 옷가지들을 꺼내서 리브가에게 주었다. 그는 또 값나가는 선물을 리브가의 오라버니와 어머니에게도 주었다.
54 종과 그 일행은 비로소 먹고 마시고, 그 날 밤을 거기에서 묵었다. 다음날 아침에 모두 일어났을 때에, 아브라함의 종이 말하였다. “이제 주인에게로 돌아가겠습니다. 떠나게 해주십시오.”
55 리브가의 오라버니와 어머니는 “저 애를 다만 며칠이라도, 적어도 열흘만이라도, 우리와 함께 더 있다가 떠나게 해주십시오” 하고 간청하였다.
56 그러나 아브라함의 종은 그들에게 이렇게 대답하였다. “저를 더 붙잡지 말아 주십시오. 주님께서 이미 저의 여행을 형통하게 하셨으니, 제가 여기에서 떠나서, 저의 주인에게로 갈 수 있게 해주시기 바랍니다.”
57 그들이 말하였다. “아이를 불러다가 물어 봅시다.”
58 그들이 리브가를 불러다 놓고서 물었다. “이 어른과 같이 가겠느냐?” 리브가가 대답하였다. “예, 가겠습니다.”
59 그래서 그들은 누이 리브가와 그의 유모를 아브라함의 종과 일행에게 딸려 보내면서,
60 리브가에게 복을 빌어 주었다. “우리의 누이야, 너는 천만 인의 어머니가 되어라. 너의 씨가 원수의 성을 차지할 것이다.”
61 리브가와 몸종들은 준비를 마치고, 낙타에 올라앉아서, 종의 뒤를 따라 나섰다. 그래서 아브라함의 종은 리브가를 데리고서, 길을 떠날 수 있었다.
62 그 때에 이삭은 이미 브엘라해로이에서 떠나서, 남쪽 네겝 지역에 가서 살고 있었다.
63 어느 날 저녁에 이삭이 산책을 하려고 들로 나갔다가, 고개를 들고 보니, 낙타 행렬이 한 떼 오고 있었다.
64 리브가는 고개를 들어서 이삭을 보고, 낙타에서 내려서
65 아브라함의 종에게 물었다. “저 들판에서 우리를 맞으러 오는 저 남자가 누굽니까?” 그 종이 대답하였다. “나의 주인입니다.” 그러자 리브가는 너울을 꺼내서, 얼굴을 가렸다.
66 그 종이 이제까지의 모든 일을 이삭에게 다 말하였다.
67 이삭은 리브가를 어머니 사라의 장막으로 데리고 들어가서, 그를 아내로 맞아들였다. 이렇게 해서, 리브가는 이삭의 아내가 되었으며, 이삭은 그를 사랑하였다. 이삭은 어머니를 여의고 나서, 위로를 받았다.

Thinking & Understanding
After hearing the words of Abraham’s servant, Rebekah’s family acknowledged that it was the work of the Lord and consented to the marriage. The servant once again worshiped God, gave gifts to Rebekah and her family, and then finally ate and rested (vv. 50-54a). He planned to go back the very next day. Rebekah’s family asked that he stay a few more days, but like Abraham’s servant, Rebekah boldly resolved to go immediately and set out on a journey of faith with her family’s blessing (vv. 54b-61). Isaac took Rebekah as his wife and brought her into the tent of his mother. She comforted Isaac as the woman who would continue the lineage of faith that started with Sarah (vv. 62-67).
리브가의 가족은 종의 말을 듣고 이것이 주님의 일이라 고백하며 혼인을 허락합니다. 종은 하나님께 다시 경배한 뒤 선물을 주고서야 비로소 음식을 먹고 휴식을 취합니다(50-54a절). 그는 다음 날 즉시 돌아가길 원하지만, 가족은 며칠 더 머물기를 요청합니다. 그러나 리브가는 아브라함의 종처럼 담대히 떠나겠다고 결단하고, 가족의 축복을 받으며 믿음의 여정을 시작합니다(54b-61절). 이삭은 리브가를 아내로 맞아 사라의 장막으로 들이며, 리브가는 사라의 약속을 잇는 자로서 이삭의 마음을 위로합니다(62-67절).
What lesson is God teaching me?
V. 50 God’s will takes precedence over our emotions and convenience. Rebekah’s family obeyed immediately once they knew her marriage to Isaac was God’s will—they did not sit discussing the pros and cons. We cannot follow God’s will if we are led by our emotions. We need humility like that of Peter, who said, “Who was I that I could stand in God’s way?” (Acts 11:17).
하나님의 뜻이 우리의 감정이나 편의보다 우선합니다. 리브가의 가족은 이삭과 리브가의 결혼이 하나님의 뜻이라는 것을 확인하자 좋고 나쁨을 따지지 않고 따랐습니다. 내 감정만 따라서는 하나님의 뜻을 따를 수 없습니다. “내가 누구이기에 감히 하나님을 거역할 수 있었겠습니까?”(행 11:17)라고 했던 베드로의 겸손이 필요합니다.

Vv. 54-60 Rebekah did not hesitate to follow Abraham’s servant. Just as Abraham departed Haran (12:4), Rebekah departed Haran to join the ranks of the covenant people. While there are times we should wait faithfully while praying, at times, we also need to obey God’s clear will immediately. What must my community of faith and I obey right now without delay?
리브가는 종을 따라나서는 일을 지체하지 않습니다. 아브라함이 하란을 떠날 때처럼(12:4) 그도 하란을 떠나 언약 백성의 대열에 참여합니다. 신중하게 기도하며 기다려야 할 때도 있지만, 때로는 분명한 하나님의 뜻에 즉시 순종해야 할 때도 있습니다. 지금 나와 우리 공동체가 지체하지 않고 순종해야 할 일이 있지 않습니까?
Prayer
Lord, give me the heart to obey you immediately and without hesitation when your will is clear.
