28Then the young woman ran and told her mother's household about these things. 29 Rebekah had a brother whose name was Laban. Laban ran out toward the man, to the spring. 30 As soon as he saw the ring and the bracelets on his sister's arms, and heard the words of Rebekah his sister, “Thus the man spoke to me,” he went to the man. And behold, he was standing by the camels at the spring. 31 He said, “Come in, O blessed of the LORD. Why do you stand outside? For I have prepared the house and a place for the camels.” 32 So the man came to the house and unharnessed the camels, and gave straw and fodder to the camels, and there was water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him. 33 Then food was set before him to eat. But he said, “I will not eat until I have said what I have to say.” He said, “Speak on.” 34 So he said, “I am Abraham's servant. 35 The LORD has greatly blessed my master, and he has become great. He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, camels and donkeys. 36 And Sarah my master's wife bore a son to my master when she was old, and to him he has given all that he has. 37 My master made me swear, saying, ‘You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell, 38 but you shall go to my father's house and to my clan and take a wife for my son.’ 39 I said to my master, ‘Perhaps the woman will not follow me.’ 40 But he said to me, ‘The LORD, before whom I have walked, will send his angel with you and prosper your way. You shall take a wife for my son from my clan and from my father's house. 41 Then you will be free from my oath, when you come to my clan. And if they will not give her to you, you will be free from my oath.’ 42 “I came today to the spring and said, ‘O LORD, the God of my master Abraham, if now you are prospering the way that I go, 43 behold, I am standing by the spring of water. Let the virgin who comes out to draw water, to whom I shall say, “Please give me a little water from your jar to drink,” 44 and who will say to me, “Drink, and I will draw for your camels also,” let her be the woman whom the LORD has appointed for my master's son.’ 45 “Before I had finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came out with her water jar on her shoulder, and she went down to the spring and drew water. I said to her, ‘Please let me drink.’ 46 She quickly let down her jar from her shoulder and said, ‘Drink, and I will give your camels drink also.’ So I drank, and she gave the camels drink also. 47 Then I asked her, ‘Whose daughter are you?’ She said, ‘The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bore to him.’ So I put the ring on her nose and the bracelets on her arms. 48 Then I bowed my head and worshiped the LORD and blessed the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me by the right way to take the daughter of my master's kinsman for his son. 49 Now then, if you are going to show steadfast love and faithfulness to my master, tell me; and if not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand or to the left.”
28소녀가 달려가서, 어머니 집 식구들에게 이 일을 알렸다. 29 리브가에게는 라반이라고 하는 오라버니가 있는데, 그가 우물가에 있는 그 노인에게 급히 달려왔다. 30 그는, 자기 동생이 코걸이와 팔찌를 하고 있는 것을 보고, 또 노인이 누이에게 한 말을 누이에게서 전해 듣고, 곧바로 달려 나와서, 우물가에 낙타와 함께 있는 노인을 만났다. 31 라반이 그에게 말하였다. “어서 들어가시지요. 할아버지는 주님께서 주시는 복을 받으신 분이십니다. 어찌하여 여기 바깥에 서 계십니까? 방이 준비되어 있고, 낙타를 둘 곳도 마련되어 있습니다.” 32 노인은 그 집으로 들어갔다. 라반은 낙타의 짐을 부리고, 낙타에게 겨와 여물을 주고, 노인과 그의 동행자들에게 발 씻을 물을 주었다. 33 그런 다음에, 노인에게 밥상을 차려 드렸다. 그런데 노인이 말하였다. “제가 드려야 할 말씀을 드리기 전에는, 밥상을 받을 수 없습니다.” 라반이 대답하였다. “말씀하시지요.” 34 노인이 말하였다. “저는 아브라함 어른의 종입니다. 35 주님께서 나의 주인에게 크게 복을 주셔서, 주인은 큰 부자가 되셨습니다. 주님께서는 우리 주인에게 양 떼와 소 떼, 은과 금, 남종과 여종, 낙타와 나귀를 주셨습니다. 36 주인마님 사라는 노년에 이르러서, 주인어른과의 사이에서 아들을 낳으셨는데, 주인어른께서는 모든 재산을 아드님께 주셨습니다. 37 주인어른께서 저더러 말씀하시기를 ‘너는, 내 아들의 아내가 될 여인을, 내가 사는 가나안 땅에 있는 사람의 딸들에게서 찾지 말고, 38 나의 아버지 집, 나의 친족에게로 가서, 나의 며느릿감을 찾아보겠다고 나에게 맹세하여라’ 하셨습니다. 39 그래서 제가 주인어른에게 여쭙기를 ‘며느님이 될 규수가 저를 따라오지 않겠다고 하면, 어떻게 해야 합니까?’ 하였습니다. 40 주인어른은 ‘내가 섬기는 주님께서 천사를 너와 함께 보내셔서, 너의 여행길에서 모든 일이 다 잘 되게 해주실 것이며, 네가 내 아들의 아내 될 처녀를, 나의 친족, 나의 아버지 집에서 데리고 올 수 있게 도와주실 것이다. 41 네가 나의 친족에게 갔을 때에, 그들이 딸을 주기를 거절하면, 나에게 한 이 맹세에서 너는 풀려난다. 그렇다. 정말로 네가 나에게 한 이 맹세에서 네가 풀려난다’ 하고 말씀하셨습니다. 42 제가 오늘 우물에 이르렀을 때에, 저는 이렇게 기도하였습니다. ‘주님, 나의 주인 아브라함을 보살펴 주신 하나님, 주님께서 원하시면, 제가 오늘 여기에 와서, 하는 일이 잘 이루어지게 하여 주십시오. 43 제가 여기 우물곁에 서 있다가, 처녀가 물을 길으러 오면, 그에게 항아리에 든 물을 좀 마시게 해 달라고 말하고, 44 그 처녀가 저에게 마시라고 하면서, 물을 더 길어다가 낙타들에게도 마시게 하겠다고 말하면, 그가 바로 주님께서 내 주인의 아들의 아내로 정하신 처녀로 알겠습니다’ 하고 기도하였습니다. 45 그런데 제가 마음속에 기도를 다 마치기도 전에, 리브가가 물동이를 어깨에 메고 나왔습니다. 그는 우물로 내려가서, 물을 긷고 있었습니다. 그래서 제가 그에게 ‘마실 물을 좀 주시오’ 하였더니, 46 물동이를 어깨에서 곧바로 내려놓고 ‘드십시오. 낙타들에게도 제가 물을 주겠습니다’ 하고 말하였습니다. 그래서 제가 물을 마셨습니다. 따님께서는 낙타에게도 물을 주었습니다. 47 제가 따님에게 ‘뉘 댁 따님이시오?’ 하고 물었더니, 따님께서는 ‘아버지는 함자가 브두엘이고, 할아버지는 함자가 나홀이고, 할머니는 함자가 밀가입니다’ 하고 말하였습니다. 저는 따님의 코에는 코걸이를 걸어 주고, 팔에는 팔찌를 끼워 주었습니다. 48 일이 이쯤 된 것을 보고, 저는 머리를 숙여서 주님께 경배하고, 제 주인 아브라함을 보살펴 주신 주 하나님을 찬양하였습니다. 주님은 저를 바른 길로 인도하셔서, 주인 동생의 딸을 주인 아들의 신붓감으로 만날 수 있게 하여 주셨습니다. 49 이제 어른들께서 저의 주인에게 인자하심과 진실하심을 보여 주시려거든, 저에게 그렇게 하겠다고 말씀을 해주시고, 그렇게 하지 못하시겠거든, 못하겠다고 말씀을 해주시기 바랍니다. 그렇게 하셔야, 저도 어떻게 결정을 내려야 할지를 생각해 볼 수 있을 것입니다.”
