1Ah, land of whirring wings that is beyond the rivers of Cush, 2 which sends ambassadors by the sea, in vessels of papyrus on the waters! Go, you swift messengers, to a nation tall and smooth, to a people feared near and far, a nation mighty and conquering, whose land the rivers divide. 3 All you inhabitants of the world, you who dwell on the earth, when a signal is raised on the mountains, look! When a trumpet is blown, hear! 4 For thus the LORD said to me: “I will quietly look from my dwelling like clear heat in sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.” 5 For before the harvest, when the blossom is over, and the flower becomes a ripening grape, he cuts off the shoots with pruning hooks, and the spreading branches he lops off and clears away. 6 They shall all of them be left to the birds of prey of the mountains and to the beasts of the earth. And the birds of prey will summer on them, and all the beasts of the earth will winter on them. 7 At that time tribute will be brought to the LORD of hosts from a people tall and smooth, from a people feared near and far, a nation mighty and conquering, whose land the rivers divide, to Mount Zion, the place of the name of the LORD of hosts. 19 :1An oracle concerning Egypt. Behold, the LORD is riding on a swift cloud and comes to Egypt; and the idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence, and the heart of the Egyptians will melt within them. 2 And I will stir up Egyptians against Egyptians, and they will fight, each against another and each against his neighbor, city against city, kingdom against kingdom; 3 and the spirit of the Egyptians within them will be emptied out, and I will confound their counsel; and they will inquire of the idols and the sorcerers, and the mediums and the necromancers; 4 and I will give over the Egyptians into the hand of a hard master, and a fierce king will rule over them, declares the Lord GOD of hosts. 5 And the waters of the sea will be dried up, and the river will be dry and parched, 6 and its canals will become foul, and the branches of Egypt's Nile will diminish and dry up, reeds and rushes will rot away. 7 There will be bare places by the Nile, on the brink of the Nile, and all that is sown by the Nile will be parched, will be driven away, and will be no more. 8 The fishermen will mourn and lament, all who cast a hook in the Nile; and they will languish who spread nets on the water. 9 The workers in combed flax will be in despair, and the weavers of white cotton. 10 Those who are the pillars of the land will be crushed, and all who work for pay will be grieved. 11 The princes of Zoan are utterly foolish; the wisest counselors of Pharaoh give stupid counsel. How can you say to Pharaoh, “I am a son of the wise, a son of ancient kings”? 12 Where then are your wise men? Let them tell you that they might know what the LORD of hosts has purposed against Egypt. 13 The princes of Zoan have become fools, and the princes of Memphis are deluded; those who are the cornerstones of her tribes have made Egypt stagger. 14 The LORD has mingled within her a spirit of confusion, and they will make Egypt stagger in all its deeds, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit. 15 And there will be nothing for Egypt that head or tail, palm branch or reed, may do.
1에티오피아의 강 건너편, 벌레들이 날개 치는 소리가 나는 땅에 재앙이 닥칠 것이다. 2 그들이 갈대배를 물에 띄우고, 뱃길로 사절단을 보낸다. 너희 민첩한 사절들아, 가거라. 강물이 여러 갈래로 나뉘어 흐르는 땅으로 가거라. 거기에 사는 민족, 곧 키가 매우 크고 근육이 매끄러운 백성, 멀리서도 두려움을 주고 적을 짓밟는 강대국 백성에게로 가거라. 3 이 세상 사람들아, 땅에 사는 주민들아, 산 위에 깃발이 세워지면 너희가 보게 되고, 또 나팔 소리가 나면 너희가 듣게 될 것이다. 4 주님께서 나에게 이렇게 말씀하신다. “내가 나의 처소에서 조용히 내려다보겠다.” 추수철 더운 밤에 이슬이 조용히 내려앉듯이, 한여름 폭염 속에서 뙤약볕이 고요히 내리쬐듯이, 5 곡식을 거두기 전에, 꽃이 지고 신 포도가 영글 때에, 주님께서 연한 가지들을 낫으로 자르시고, 뻗은 가지들을 찍어 버리실 것이다. 6 산의 독수리들과 땅의 짐승들이 배불리 먹도록 그것들을 버려두실 것이니, 독수리가 그것으로 여름을 나고, 땅의 모든 짐승이 그것으로 겨울을 날 것이다. 7 그 때에 만군의 주님께서 예물을 받으실 것이다. 강물이 여러 갈래로 나뉘어 흐르는 땅, 거기에 사는 민족, 곧 키가 매우 크고 근육이 매끄러운 백성, 멀리서도 두려움을 주고 적을 짓밟는 강대국 백성이 만군의 주님께 드릴 예물을 가지고, 만군의 주님의 이름으로 일컫는 곳 시온 산으로 올 것이다. 1 이것은 이집트를 두고 하신 엄한 경고의 말씀이다. 주님께서 빠른 구름을 타고 이집트로 가실 것이니, 이집트의 우상들이 그 앞에서 떨고, 이집트 사람들의 간담이 녹을 것이다. 2 “내가 이집트 사람들을 부추겨서, 서로 맞서 싸우게 하겠다. 형제와 형제가, 이웃과 이웃이, 성읍과 성읍이, 왕권과 왕권이, 서로 싸우게 하겠다. 3 그래서 이집트 사람들의 기를 죽여 놓겠다. 내가 그들의 계획을 무산시켜 버리면, 그들은 우상과 마술사와 신접한 자와 무당을 찾아가 물을 것이다. 4 내가 이집트를 잔인한 군주의 손에 넘길 것이니, 폭군이 그들을 다스릴 것이다.” 주님, 곧 만군의 주님께서 하신 말씀이다. 5 나일 강이 마를 것이다. 강바닥이 바싹 마를 것이다. 6 강에서는 악취가 나며, 이집트 시냇물의 물 깊이가 얕아져 마르겠고, 파피루스와 갈대도 시들어 버릴 것이다. 7 나일 강 가와 어귀의 풀밭과 강변에 심은 모든 나무가 말라서, 바람에 날려 사라지고 말 것이다. 8 나일 강에서 고기를 잡는 어부들이 슬퍼하며 통곡하고, 나일 강에 낚시를 던지는 모든 낚시꾼과 강에 그물을 치는 사람들이 잡히는 것이 없어서 고달파 할 것이다. 9 가는 베를 짜는 사람이 베 짜는 일을 그만두고, 흰 천을 짜는 사람도 실망하여 천 짜는 일을 그칠 것이다. 10 옷 만드는 사람들이 낙심하니, 모든 품꾼의 마음에도 병이 들 것이다. 11 소안의 지도자인 너희는 어리석기만 하고, 지혜롭다고 하는 바로의 참모인 너희도 어리석은 제안만을 하고 있으니, 어찌 바로에게 너희가 옛 현인들과 옛 왕들의 후예라고 감히 말할 수 있겠느냐? 12 이집트의 임금아, 너를 섬기는 현인이 어디에 있느냐? 그들을 시켜서, 만군의 주님께서 이집트에 대하여 무엇을 계획하셨는지를 알게 하여 너에게 보이라고 하여라. 13 소안의 지도자들은 어리석은 사람들이다. 멤피스의 지도자들은 제 꾀에 속고 있다. 이집트의 주춧돌들인 지파들이 이집트를 그릇된 길로 이끌었다. 14 주님께서 친히 그들에게 마음을 혼란시키는 영을 부으셔서, 그들이 이집트를 잘못 다스리게 하셨다. 그래서 마치 취한 자가 토하면서 비틀거리듯, 이집트를 그 꼴로 만들었다. 15 그러므로 이집트에서는 되는 일이 없고, 우두머리나 말단에 있는 사람이나 종려나무처럼 귀한 자나 갈대처럼 천한 자나 가릴 것 없이, 모두 쓸모가 없이 될 것이다.
