1An oracle concerning Damascus. Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins. 2 The cities of Aroer are deserted; they will be for flocks, which will lie down, and none will make them afraid. 3 The fortress will disappear from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus; and the remnant of Syria will be like the glory of the children of Israel, declares the LORD of hosts. 4 And in that day the glory of Jacob will be brought low, and the fat of his flesh will grow lean. 5 And it shall be as when the reaper gathers standing grain and his arm harvests the ears, and as when one gleans the ears of grain in the Valley of Rephaim. 6 Gleanings will be left in it, as when an olive tree is beaten—two or three berries in the top of the highest bough, four or five on the branches of a fruit tree, declares the LORD God of Israel. 7 In that day man will look to his Maker, and his eyes will look on the Holy One of Israel. 8 He will not look to the altars, the work of his hands, and he will not look on what his own fingers have made, either the Asherim or the altars of incense. 9 In that day their strong cities will be like the deserted places of the wooded heights and the hilltops, which they deserted because of the children of Israel, and there will be desolation. 10 For you have forgotten the God of your salvation and have not remembered the Rock of your refuge; therefore, though you plant pleasant plants and sow the vine-branch of a stranger, 11 though you make them grow on the day that you plant them, and make them blossom in the morning that you sow, yet the harvest will flee away in a day of grief and incurable pain. 12 Ah, the thunder of many peoples; they thunder like the thundering of the sea! Ah, the roar of nations; they roar like the roaring of mighty waters! 13 The nations roar like the roaring of many waters, but he will rebuke them, and they will flee far away, chased like chaff on the mountains before the wind and whirling dust before the storm. 14 At evening time, behold, terror! Before morning, they are no more! This is the portion of those who loot us, and the lot of those who plunder us.
1이것은 다마스쿠스를 두고 하신 엄한 경고의 말씀이다. “다마스쿠스는 성읍 축에도 들지 못하고, 허물어진 무더기가 될 것이다. 2 또한 아로엘의 성읍들이 황무지가 될 것이다.” 그 성읍들은 양 떼의 차지가 되며, 양 떼가 누워도 그들을 놀라게 할 자가 하나도 없을 것이다. 3 “에브라임은 무방비 상태가 되고, 다마스쿠스는 주권을 잃을 것이다. 이스라엘 자손에게서 영광이 사라지듯이, 시리아의 남은 백성도 수치를 당할 것이다.” 만군의 주님께서 하신 말씀이다. 4 “그 날이 오면, 야곱의 영화가 시들고, 건강하던 몸이 야윌 것이다. 5 그들은 곡식을 거두고 난 텅 빈 들처럼 될 것이다. 곡식을 거두는 자가 곡식을 다 거두어 버린 그 들판, 사람들이 이삭마저 다 줍고 내버린 그 들판, 이삭을 다 줍고 난 르바임 들판처럼 될 것이다. 6 그들은 열매를 따고 난 올리브 나무처럼 될 것이다. 마치 올리브 나무를 흔들 때에, 가장 높은 가지에 있는 두세 개의 열매나, 무성한 나무의 가장 먼 가지에 남은 네다섯 개의 열매와 같이 될 것이다.” 주 이스라엘의 하나님께서 하신 말씀이다. 7 “그 날이 오면, 사람들은 자기들을 지으신 분에게 눈길을 돌리고 ‘이스라엘의 거룩하신 분’을 바라볼 것이다. 8 자기들의 손으로 만든 제단들은 거들떠보지도 않고, 자기들의 손가락으로 만든 아세라 상들과 태양 신상은 생각도 하지 않을 것이다.” 9 그 날이 오면, 그 견고한 성읍들이 폐허가 될 것이다. 마치 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 도망 친 히위 족과 아모리 족의 성읍들처럼, 황폐하게 될 것이다. 10 이스라엘아, 네가 하나님 너의 구원자를 잊어버리고, 네가 피할 견고한 반석을 기억하지 않고, 이방 신을 섬기려고 이방의 묘목으로 ‘신성한 동산’을 만들었구나. 11 나무를 심는 그 날로 네가 울타리를 두르고, 그 다음날 아침에 네가 심은 씨에서 싹이 났다 하여도, 네가 그것을 거두어들일 무렵에는 흉작이 되어, 너의 슬픔이 클 것이다. 12 가련하다! 저 많은 민족의 요란한 소리가 마치 바다에 파도치는 소리처럼 요란하고, 많은 백성들이 몰려오는 소리가 마치 거대한 물결이 밀려오는 소리 같구나. 13 비록 많은 백성이, 거대한 물결이 밀려오는 것 같이 소리를 내어도, 주님께서 그들을 꾸짖으시리니, 그들이 멀리 도망 칠 것이다. 그들은 산에서 바람에 흩어지는 겨와 같고, 폭풍 앞에 흩날리는 티끌과 같을 것이다. 14 그들이 저녁때에 두려운 일을 당하고, 아침이 오기 전에 사라질 것이니, 이것이 바로 우리를 노략한 자가 받을 몫이고, 우리를 약탈한 자가 받을 마땅한 값이다.
