[ Judges 13:15 - 13:25 ] (Hymn391)

15 Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, “Please let us detain you and prepare a young goat for you.”
16 And the angel of the LORD said to Manoah, “If you detain me, I will not eat of your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering, then offer it to the LORD.” (For Manoah did not know that he was the angel of the LORD.)
17 And Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, “What is your name, so that, when your words come true, we may honor you?”
18 And the angel of the LORD said to him, “Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful?”
19 So Manoah took the young goat with the grain offering, and offered it on the rock to the LORD, to the one who works wonders, and Manoah and his wife were watching.
20 And when the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, the angel of the LORD went up in the flame of the altar. Now Manoah and his wife were watching, and they fell on their faces to the ground.
21 The angel of the LORD appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the LORD.
22 And Manoah said to his wife, “We shall surely die, for we have seen God.”
23 But his wife said to him, “If the LORD had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering at our hands, or shown us all these things, or now announced to us such things as these.”
24 And the woman bore a son and called his name Samson. And the young man grew, and the LORD blessed him.
25 And the Spirit of the LORD began to stir him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

15그러자 마노아가 주님의 천사에게, 새끼 염소를 한 마리 잡아 대접할 터이니, 잠시 기다려 달라고 하였다.
16 그러나 주님의 천사는 마노아에게, 기다리라면 기다릴 수는 있으나 음식은 먹지 않겠다고 하면서, 마노아가 번제를 준비한다면, 그것은 마땅히 주님께 드려야 할 것이라고 말하였다. 마노아는 그가 주님의 천사라는 것을 전혀 알지 못하였다.
17 그래서 마노아가 또 주님의 천사에게, 이름만이라도 알려 주면, 말한 바가 이루어질 때에 그에게 그 영광을 돌리고 싶다고 하였다.
18 그러나 주님의 천사는 어찌하여 그렇게 자기의 이름을 묻느냐고 나무라면서 자기의 이름은 비밀이라고 하였다.
19 마노아는 새끼 염소 한 마리와 곡식예물을 가져다가, 바위 위에서 주님께 드렸다. 주님께서는 마노아와 그의 아내가 보고 있는 데서 신기한 일을 일으키셨다.
20 제단에서 불길이 하늘로 치솟자, 주님의 천사가 제단의 불길을 타고 하늘로 올라갔다. 마노아와 그의 아내는 이것을 보고, 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드렸다.
21 주님의 천사가 마노아와 그의 아내에게 다시 나타나지 않자, 그제야 마노아는 비로소 그가 주님의 천사인 줄 알았다.
22 마노아는 아내에게 말하였다. “우리가 하나님을 보았으니, 우리는 틀림없이 죽을 것이오.”
23 그러자 그의 아내가 그에게 말하였다. “만일 주님께서 우리를 죽이려 하셨다면 우리의 손에서 번제물과 곡식예물을 받지 않으셨을 것이며, 또 우리에게 이런 모든 일을 보이거나 이런 말씀을 하시지도 않으셨을 겁니다.”
24 그 여인이 아들을 낳고서, 이름을 삼손이라고 하였다. 그 아이는 주님께서 내리시는 복을 받으면서 잘 자랐다.
25 그가 소라와 에스다올 사이에 있는 마하네단에 있을 때에, 주님의 영이 처음으로 그에게 내렸다.

Thinking & Understanding
Manoah tried to offer the angel food, but the angel told him to prepare a burnt offering for the Lord instead. Manoah asked the angel his name, but the angel told him it was beyond understanding. Once the burnt offering was given, the angel went up to heaven in a flame, and Manoah knew that he was an angel of the Lord. Manoah was afraid that he would die because he had seen God, but his wife reassured him that they did not need to be afraid because God had accepted their offering and spoken to them. Eventually, Manoah and his wife gave birth to a son and named him Samson, and as the boy grew up, the Spirit of the Lord began to stir in him.
마노아가 천사를 대접하려 하자, 천사는 자신에게 음식을 주지 말고 주님께 번제를 드리라고 말합니다. 마노아는 그의 이름을 묻지만, 천사는 자신의 이름이 ‘비밀’이라고 답합니다. 번제가 드려질 때 천사가 불길을 타고 하늘로 올라가자, 마노아는 그가 주님의 천사였음을 깨닫습니다. 마노아는 하나님을 보았으니 죽을 것이라 두려워하지만, 그의 아내는 하나님이 제사를 받으시고 말씀을 주셨으니 두려워할 필요가 없다고 말합니다. 이후 마노아의 아내는 아들을 낳아 삼손이라 이름 짓습니다. 삼손이 자라자, 주님의 영이 그에게 임하기 시작합니다.

Who is God?
VV. 15-18 Even the angel of the Lord could not take the Lord’s glory, and no individual is supreme enough to be worshipped. Just as the angel’s name was a secret, the Lord’s workers should also work anonymously. The only name that should be revealed through our labour and servitude is the name of God.
주님의 천사도 주님의 영광을 가로챌 수 없고, 어떤 탁월한 사람도 숭배의 대상이 될 수 없습니다. 천사의 이름이 ‘비밀’인 것처럼, 주님의 일꾼의 이름도 ‘무명’이 되어야 합니다. 우리 수고와 섬김을 통해 드러나야 할 이름은 하나님밖에 없습니다.

What lesson is God teaching me?
VV. 22-23 Manoah was overcome with uncertain fear, but his wife wisely understood the Lord’s doing. She knew that God had come to them and spoken to them not to harm them but to bless them. Let’s reflect on the Lord’s works through the Word and inquire after his good purpose for us.
마노아는 막연히 두려워했지만, 그의 아내는 주님이 하신 일을 지혜롭게 바라보았습니다. 주님이 찾아오시고 말씀하시며 제사를 받으신 것은 그들을 해치려는 뜻이 아니라 복 주시려는 뜻이었습니다. 말씀을 통해 주님이 하신 일을 묵상하며, 나를 향한 주님의 선한 뜻을 찾아봅시다.

Prayer
Lord, help us to obey your Word, whatever your command, by keeping our eyes on your salvation, which transcends our understanding.
