1There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. 2 And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. 3 And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear, 4 but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked. 5 Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his loins. 6 The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them. 7 The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8 The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder's den. 9 They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. 10 In that day the root of Jesse, who shall stand as a signal for the peoples—of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious. 11 In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea. 12 He will raise a signal for the nations and will assemble the banished of Israel, and gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. 13 The jealousy of Ephraim shall depart, and those who harass Judah shall be cut off; Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah, and Judah shall not harass Ephraim. 14 But they shall swoop down on the shoulder of the Philistines in the west, and together they shall plunder the people of the east. They shall put out their hand against Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites shall obey them. 15 And the LORD will utterly destroy the tongue of the Sea of Egypt, and will wave his hand over the River with his scorching breath, and strike it into seven channels, and he will lead people across in sandals. 16 And there will be a highway from Assyria for the remnant that remains of his people, as there was for Israel when they came up from the land of Egypt.
1이새의 줄기에서 한 싹이 나며 그 뿌리에서 한 가지가 자라서 열매를 맺는다. 2 주님의 영이 그에게 내려오신다. 지혜와 총명의 영, 모략과 권능의 영, 지식과 주님을 경외하게 하는 영이 그에게 내려오시니, 3 그는 주님을 경외하는 것을 즐거움으로 삼는다. 그는 눈에 보이는 대로만 재판하지 않으며, 귀에 들리는 대로만 판결하지 않는다. 4 가난한 사람들을 공의로 재판하고, 세상에서 억눌린 사람들을 바르게 논죄한다. 그가 하는 말은 몽둥이가 되어 잔인한 자를 치고, 그가 내리는 선고는 사악한 자를 사형에 처한다. 5 그는 정의로 허리를 동여매고 성실로 그의 몸의 띠를 삼는다. 6 그 때에는, 이리가 어린 양과 함께 살며, 표범이 새끼 염소와 함께 누우며, 송아지와 새끼 사자와 살진 짐승이 함께 풀을 뜯고, 어린아이가 그것들을 이끌고 다닌다. 7 암소와 곰이 서로 벗이 되며, 그것들의 새끼가 함께 눕고, 사자가 소처럼 풀을 먹는다. 8 젖 먹는 아이가 독사의 구멍 곁에서 장난하고, 젖 뗀 아이가 살무사의 굴에 손을 넣는다. 9 “나의 거룩한 산 모든 곳에서, 서로 해치거나 파괴하는 일이 없다.” 물이 바다를 채우듯, 주님을 아는 지식이 땅에 가득하기 때문이다. 10 그 날이 오면, 이새의 뿌리에서 한 싹이 나서, 만민의 깃발로 세워질 것이며, 민족들이 그를 찾아 모여들어서, 그가 있는 곳이 영광스럽게 될 것이다. 11 그 날이 오면, 주님께서 다시 손을 펴시어서, 그의 남은 백성들, 곧 앗시리아와 하 이집트와 상 이집트와 에티오피아와 엘람과 바빌로니아와 하맛과 바다 섬들에서 남은 사람들을, 자기의 소유로 삼으실 것이다. 12 주님께서, 뭇 나라가 볼 수 있도록 깃발을 세우시고, 쫓겨난 이스라엘 사람들이 그 깃발을 보고 찾아오게 하시며, 흩어진 유다 사람들이 땅의 사방에서 그 깃발을 찾아오도록 하실 것이다. 13 그 때에는 에브라임의 증오가 사라지고, 유다의 적개심이 없어질 것이니, 에브라임이 유다를 증오하지 않고, 유다도 에브라임에게 적개심을 품지 않을 것이다. 14 그들이 서쪽으로는 블레셋을 공격하고, 함께 동쪽 백성을 약탈하며, 에돔과 모압을 장악할 것이다. 암몬 사람들도 굴복시킬 것이다. 15 주님께서 이집트 바다의 큰 물굽이를 말리시고, 뜨거운 바람을 일으키셔서, 유프라테스 강 물을 말리실 것이다. 주님께서 그것을 쳐서 일곱 개울을 만드실 것이니, 누구나 신을 신고 건널 수 있을 것이다. 16 주님께서, 남은 백성 곧 앗시리아에 남은 자들이 돌아오도록 큰길을 내실 것이니, 이스라엘이 이집트 땅에서 올라오던 날과 같게 하실 것이다.
