1And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD after Ehud died. 2 And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth-hagoyim. 3 Then the people of Israel cried out to the LORD for help, for he had900 chariots of iron and he oppressed the people of Israel cruelly for twenty years. 4 Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time. 5 She used to sit under the palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the people of Israel came up to her for judgment. 6 She sent and summoned Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh-naphtali and said to him, “Has not the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded you, ‘Go, gather your men at Mount Tabor, taking10,000 from the people of Naphtali and the people of Zebulun. 7 And I will draw out Sisera, the general of Jabin’s army, to meet you by the river Kishon with his chariots and his troops, and I will give him into your hand’?” 8 Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, I will go, but if you will not go with me, I will not go.” 9 And she said, “I will surely go with you. Nevertheless, the road on which you are going will not lead to your glory, for the LORD will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” Then Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh. 10 And Barak called out Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh. And10,000 men went up at his heels, and Deborah went up with him.
1에훗이 죽은 뒤에, 이스라엘 자손은 다시 주님께서 보시는 앞에서 악한 일을 저질렀다. 2 그래서 주님께서는 하솔을 다스리는 가나안 왕 야빈의 손에 그들을 내주셨다. 그의 군지휘관은 이방인의 땅 하로셋에 사는 시스라였다. 3 야빈은 철 병거 구백 대를 가지고 있었으며, 이십 년 동안 이스라엘 자손을 심하게 억압하였다. 그래서 이스라엘 자손은 주님께 울부짖었다. 4 그 때에 이스라엘의 사사는 랍비돗의 아내인 예언자 드보라였다. 5 그가 에브라임 산간지방인 라마와 베델 사이에 있는 ‘드보라의 종려나무’ 아래에 앉아 있으면, 이스라엘 자손은 그에게 나아와 재판을 받곤 하였다. 6 하루는 드보라가 사람을 보내어, 납달리의 게데스에서 아비노암의 아들 바락을 불러다가, 그에게 말하였다. “주 이스라엘의 하나님이 분명히 이렇게 명하셨습니다. ‘너는 납달리 지파와 스불론 지파에서 만 명을 이끌고 다볼 산으로 가거라. 7 야빈의 군지휘관 시스라와 그의 철 병거와 그의 많은 군대를 기손 강 가로 끌어들여 너의 손에 넘겨 주겠다.’” 8 바락이 드보라에게 대답하였다. “그대가 나와 함께 가면 나도 가겠지만, 그대가 나와 함께 가지 않으면 나도 가지 않겠소.” 9 그러자 드보라는 “내가 반드시 장군님과 함께 가겠습니다. 그러나 주님께서 시스라를 한 여자의 손에 내주실 것이니, 장군께서는 이번에 가는 길에서는 영광을 얻지 못할 것입니다” 하고 일어나, 바락과 함께 게데스로 갔다. 10 바락이 스불론과 납달리 지파를 게데스로 불러모았다. 바락이 만 명의 군사를 이끌고 쳐올라갔고, 드보라도 그와 함께 떠났다.
