1Draw near, O nations, to hear, and give attention, O peoples! Let the earth hear, and all that fills it; the world, and all that comes from it. 2 For the LORD is enraged against all the nations, and furious against all their host; he has devoted them to destruction, has given them over for slaughter. 3 Their slain shall be cast out, and the stench of their corpses shall rise; the mountains shall flow with their blood. 4 All the host of heaven shall rot away, and the skies roll up like a scroll. All their host shall fall, as leaves fall from the vine, like leaves falling from the fig tree. 5 For my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens; behold, it descends for judgment upon Edom, upon the people I have devoted to destruction. 6 The LORD has a sword; it is sated with blood; it is gorged with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, a great slaughter in the land of Edom. 7 Wild oxen shall fall with them, and young steers with the mighty bulls. Their land shall drink its fill of blood, and their soil shall be gorged with fat. 8 For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion. 9 And the streams of Edom shall be turned into pitch, and her soil into sulfur; her land shall become burning pitch. 10 Night and day it shall not be quenched; its smoke shall go up forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it forever and ever. 11 But the hawk and the porcupine shall possess it, the owl and the raven shall dwell in it. He shall stretch the line of confusion over it, and the plumb line of emptiness. 12 Its nobles—there is no one there to call it a kingdom, and all its princes shall be nothing. 13 Thorns shall grow over its strongholds, nettles and thistles in its fortresses. It shall be the haunt of jackals, an abode for ostriches. 14 And wild animals shall meet with hyenas; the wild goat shall cry to his fellow; indeed, there the night bird settles and finds for herself a resting place. 15 There the owl nests and lays and hatches and gathers her young in her shadow; indeed, there the hawks are gathered, each one with her mate. 16 Seek and read from the book of the LORD: Not one of these shall be missing; none shall be without her mate. For the mouth of the LORD has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them. 17 He has cast the lot for them; his hand has portioned it out to them with the line; they shall possess it forever; from generation to generation they shall dwell in it.
1민족들아, 가까이 와서 들어라. 백성들아, 귀를 기울여라. 땅과 거기에 가득한 것들아, 세상과 그 안에서 사는 모든 것들아, 들어라. 2 주님께서 모든 민족에게 진노하시고, 그들의 모든 군대에게 분노하셔서 그들을 진멸시키시려고 하신다. 그들이 살해당하도록 버려두시기로 작정하셨다. 3 죽은 자들이 내동댕이쳐져서, 그 시체에서는 악취가 솟아오르며, 홍수처럼 흐르는 피에 산들이 무너져 내릴 것이다. 4 해와 달과 별들이 떨어져서 가루가 되고, 하늘은 마치 두루마리처럼 말릴 것이다. 포도나무의 잎이 말라 떨어지듯이, 무화과나무의 잎이 말라 떨어지듯이, 하늘에 있는 별들이 떨어질 것이다. 5 “나의 칼이 하늘에서 흡족하게 마셨으니, 그 칼이 이제 에돔을 칠 것이다. 내가 나의 칼에게, 에돔을 심판하여 진멸시키라고 명하였다.” 6 제물을 잡은 주님의 칼이 어린 양과 염소의 피에 흥건히 젖고, 숫양의 콩팥에서 나온 기름이 그 칼에 엉겨 붙듯이, 주님의 칼이 그들의 피에 흥건히 젖고, 그 기름이 그 칼에 엉겨 붙었다. 주님께서 보스라에서 그 백성을 희생 제물로 잡으시고 에돔 땅에서 그 백성을 크게 살육하신 것이다. 7 백성이 들소처럼 쓰러질 것이다. 송아지와 황소처럼 쓰러질 것이다. 땅이 핏빛으로 물들고, 흙이 기름에 엉길 것이다. 8 이 때가 바로, 주님께서 복수하시는 날이니, 시온을 구하여 주시고 대적을 파멸시키시는 해, 보상하여 주시는 해이다. 9 에돔의 강들이 역청으로 변하고, 흙이 유황으로 변하고, 온 땅이 역청처럼 타오를 것이다. 10 그 불이 밤낮으로 꺼지지 않고 타서, 그 연기가 끊임없이 치솟으며, 에돔은 영원토록 황폐하여, 영원히 그리로 지나가는 사람이 없을 것이다. 11 펠리컨과 고슴도치가 그 땅을 차지하겠고, 부엉이와 까마귀가 거기에서 자리를 잡을 것이다. 주님께서 에돔을 ‘혼돈의 줄’과 ‘황무의 추’로 재실 터이니, 에돔을 창조 전처럼 황무하게 하실 것이다. 12 거기에는, 나라를 세울 통치자들이 없을 것이며, 백성을 다스릴 지도자도 없을 것이다. 13 궁궐이 있던 곳마다 가시나무가 돋아나고, 그 요새에는 쐐기풀과 엉겅퀴만 무성할 것이다. 그 곳은 승냥이 떼의 굴이 되고, 타조들의 집이 될 것이다. 14 거기에서는 들짐승들이 이리 떼와 만나고, 숫염소가 소리를 내어 서로를 찾을 것이다. 밤짐승이 거기에서 머물러 쉴 곳을 찾을 것이다. 15 부엉이가 집을 만들어 거기에 깃들고, 그 알을 낳아 까서, 제 몸으로 그늘을 만들어 덮을 것이다. 솔개들도 제 짝과 함께 그리로 모일 것이다. 16 주님의 책을 자세히 읽어 보아라. 이 짐승들 가운데서 어느 것 하나 빠지는 것이 없겠고, 하나도 그 짝이 없는 짐승은 없을 것이다. 주님께서 친히 입을 열어 그렇게 되라고 명하셨고 주님의 영이 친히 그 짐승들을 모으실 것이기 때문이다. 17 주님께서 친히 그 짐승들에게 땅을 나누어 주시고, 손수 줄을 그어서 그렇게 나누어 주실 것이니, 그 짐승들이 영원히 그 땅을 차지할 것이며, 세세토록 거기에서 살 것이다.
