RECEIVING FROM GOD		하나님으로부터 받다
[ Galatians 5:13 - 5:25 ] - hymn 288 Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. [ GALATIANS 5:16 ] In his 1937 book Think and Grow Rich, author Napoleon Hill said, “Whatever your mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” Hill’s quote epitomizes the American Dream: If you work hard, you can achieve your wildest dreams. Hard work may lead to earthly benefits; many passages of Scripture—especially in Proverbs—link those things. But as I grow older, I also see a real danger in following Hill’s ideas: My grasp-ing attempts to achieve my dreams can be a self-focused attempt to live independently from God. In Galatians 5, Paul contrasts two ways of life: “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (V. 16). Eugene Petersen paraphrases it this way: “Live freely, animated and motivated by God’s Spirit. Then you won’t feed the compul-sions of selfishness” (The Message). A few verses later, Paul describes what a flourishing life in Christ looks like: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (VV. 22-23). Many voices in this world compel us to grasp our desires with both hands. The life we long for, though, is not one we earn but one we receive as we yield to the Holy Spirit—freely walking with Him—rather than striving desperately to grasp blessing on our own terms. ADAM R. 13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;

20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions

21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

17 육체의 소욕은 성령을 거스르고 성령은 육체를 거스르나니 이 둘이 서로 대적함으로 너희가 원하는 것을 하지 못하게 하려 함이니라

18 너희가 만일 성령의 인도하시는 바가 되면 율법 아래에 있지 아니하리라

19 육체의 일은 분명하니 곧 음행과 더러운 것과 호색과

20 우상 숭배와 주술과 원수 맺는 것과 분쟁과 시기와 분냄과 당 짓는 것과 분열함과 이단과

21 투기와 술 취함과 방탕함과 또 그와 같은 것들이라 전에 너희에게 경계한 것 같이 경계하노니 이런 일을 하는 자들은 하나님의 나라를 유업으로 받지 못할 것이요

22 오직 성령의 열매는 사랑과 희락과 화평과 오래 참음과 자비와 양선과 충성과

23 온유와 절제니 이같은 것을 금지할 법이 없느니라

24 그리스도 예수의 사람들은 육체와 함께 그 정욕과 탐심을 십자가에 못 박았느니라

25 ○만일 우리가 성령으로 살면 또한 성령으로 행할지니
