RIVERS TO CROSS		건너야 할 강
[ Joshua 3:9 - 3:17 ] - hymn 391 I am with you as I was with Moses. [ JOSHUA 3:7 ] When Chris McCandless wandered off the grid and into the Alaskan wilderness, he expected to return. But he crossed the Teklanika in April, well before summer ice-melt would swell that river into an impassable torrent. Months later, out of food, McCandless couldn’t get back. His tragic death is memorialized in book and film. The people of ancient Israel faced a crucial river crossing in order to enter the promised land. However, “the Jordan [was] at flood stage” (JOSHUA 3:15), a challenge that would grow their faith. God told Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses” (V. 7). Joshua told the people, “The ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you” (V. 11). Taking the ark, the priests stepped into the Jordan, and “the water from upstream stopped flowing” (VV. 15-16). The entire nation stepped across on a dry riverbed (V. 17). From time to time we’ll face “river crossings”—impossible situations that can grow our faith if we’ll turn to the one who makes the way across. The greatest of these crossings is from this life into the next. No matter what it is, the God who was with Moses, Joshua, and the Israelites also makes a way for us. TIM GUSTAFSON		[ 여호수아 3:9 - 3:17 ] - 찬송가 391 장 내가 모세와 함께 있었던 것 같이 너와 함께 있는 것을 [여호수아 3:7] 크리스 맥캔들리스는 사회의 틀을 벗어나 알래스카의 황무지를 헤매 다닐 때만 해도 다시 돌아올 것이라 생각했습니다. 그러나 그가 테클라니카 강을 건너간 시기는 여름철 얼음이 녹아 강물이 급류로 변해 건널 수 없게 되기 훨씬 전인 4월이었습니다. 몇 달이 지나 식량이 떨어진 맥캔들리스는 돌아올 수 없게 되었습니다. 그의 비극적인 죽음은 책과 영화로 만들어져 추모되고 있습니다. 옛 이스라엘 백성은 약속의 땅에 들어가기 위해 강을 건너야 하는 중대한 상황에 놓였습니다. 그러나 “요단이 넘쳤고”(여호수아 3:15) 이 일은 그들의 믿음을 성장시키는 도전이었습니다. 하나님은 여호수아에게 “내가 오늘부터 시작하여 너를 온 이스라엘의 목전에서 크게 하여 내가 모세와 함께 있었던 것 같이 너와 함께 있는 것을 그들이 알게 하리라”고 말씀하셨습니다(7절). 여호수아는 백성에게 “온 땅의 주의 언약궤가 너희 앞에서 요단을 건너 가리라”고 말했습니다(11절). 제사장들이 언약궤를 메고 요단강에 발을 들여놓자 “위에서부터 흘러내리던 물이 그쳐”(15-16절) 온 백성이 마른 강바닥을 밟고 건너갔습니다(17절). 우리는 때로 “강을 건너야 하는” 상황을 만납니다. 이같은 불가능한 상황 에서 강을 건너게 해주시는 하나님을 바라볼 때에 우리의 믿음이 성장할 수 있습니다. 이렇게 건너야 할 것들 가운데 가장 큰 것은 이 세상에서 다음 세상으로 건너가는 일입니다. 그것이 무엇이든, 모세와 여호수아와 이스라엘 백성과 함께 하셨던 하나님은 우리에게도 길을 만들어 주십니다.

9 Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the LORD your God.

10 This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites.

11 See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you.

13 And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the LORD—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.”

14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them.

15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water's edge,

16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.

17 The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.

사랑하는 예수님, 마지막 건널 그 강을 포함해 우리가 맞닥뜨리는 모든 강을 건너게 해 주셔서 감사합니다.

9 여호수아가 이스라엘 자손에게 이르되 이리 와서 너희의 하나님 여호와의 말씀을 들으라 하고

10 또 말하되 살아 계신 하나님이 너희 가운데에 계시사 가나안 족속과 헷 족속과 히위 족속과 브리스 족속과 기르가스 족속과 아모리 족속과 여부스 족속을 너희 앞에서 반드시 쫓아내실 줄을 이것으로서 너희가 알리라

11 보라 온 땅의 주의 언약궤가 너희 앞에서 요단을 건너가나니

13 온 땅의 주 여호와의 궤를 멘 제사장들의 발바닥이 요단 물을 밟고 멈추면 요단 물 곧 위에서부터 흘러내리던 물이 끊어지고 한 곳에 쌓여 서리라

14 ○백성이 요단을 건너려고 자기들의 장막을 떠날 때에 제사장들은 언약궤를 메고 백성 앞에서 나아가니라

15 요단이 곡식 거두는 시기에는 항상 언덕에 넘치더라 궤를 멘 자들이 요단에 이르며 궤를 멘 제사장들의 발이 물 가에 잠기자

16 곧 위에서부터 흘러내리던 물이 그쳐서 사르단에 가까운 매우 멀리 있는 아담 성읍 변두리에 일어나 한 곳에 쌓이고 아라바의 바다 염해로 향하여 흘러가는 물은 온전히 끊어지매 백성이 여리고 앞으로 바로 건널새

17 여호와의 언약궤를 멘 제사장들은 요단 가운데 마른 땅에 굳게 섰고 그 모든 백성이 요단을 건너기를 마칠 때까지 모든 이스라엘은 그 마른 땅으로 건너갔더라
