1In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.
5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
6 And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.”
7 And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so.
8 And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
9 And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so.
10 God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
11 And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so.
12 The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

1태초에 하나님이 천지를 창조하셨다.
2 땅이 혼돈하고 공허하며, 어둠이 깊음 위에 있고, 하나님의 영은 물 위에 움직이고 계셨다.
3 하나님이 말씀하시기를 “빛이 생겨라” 하시니, 빛이 생겼다.
4 그 빛이 하나님 보시기에 좋았다. 하나님이 빛과 어둠을 나누셔서,
5 빛을 낮이라고 하시고, 어둠을 밤이라고 하셨다. 저녁이 되고 아침이 되니, 하루가 지났다.
6 하나님이 말씀하시기를 “물 한가운데 창공이 생겨, 물과 물 사이가 갈라져라” 하셨다.
7 하나님이 이처럼 창공을 만드시고서, 물을 창공 아래에 있는 물과 창공 위에 있는 물로 나누시니, 그대로 되었다.
8 하나님이 창공을 하늘이라고 하셨다. 저녁이 되고 아침이 되니, 이튿날이 지났다.
9 하나님이 말씀하시기를 “하늘 아래에 있는 물은 한 곳으로 모이고, 뭍은 드러나거라” 하시니, 그대로 되었다.
10 하나님이 뭍을 땅이라고 하시고, 모인 물을 바다라고 하셨다. 하나님 보시기에 좋았다.
11 하나님이 말씀하시기를 “땅은 푸른 움을 돋아나게 하여라. 씨를 맺는 식물과 씨 있는 열매를 맺는 나무가 그 종류대로 땅 위에서 돋아나게 하여라” 하시니, 그대로 되었다.
12 땅은 푸른 움을 돋아나게 하고, 씨를 맺는 식물을 그 종류대로 나게 하고, 씨 있는 열매를 맺는 나무를 그 종류대로 돋아나게 하였다. 하나님 보시기에 좋았다.
13 저녁이 되고 아침이 되니, 사흗날이 지났다.

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding
Genesis begins with the declaration, ‘In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth,’ revealing God as the sovereign Creator. On the first day, God created light and separated day from night by his word (vv. 1–5). On the second day, he made the expanse and separated the waters. On the third day, he established the boundary between sea and land, placing every seed-bearing plant and fruit-bearing tree on the land. God was pleased to see the chaotic world becoming orderly through his words (vv. 6–13).
창세기는 “태초에 하나님이 천지를 창조하셨다”라는 선포로 시작하며, 하나님이 주권적인 창조주이심을 드러냅니다. 첫째 날, 하나님은 말씀으로 빛을 창조하시고 낮과 밤을 나누셨습니다(1–5절). 둘째 날에는 깊은 물 사이에 창공, 곧 하늘을 만드셨고, 셋째 날에는 바다와 땅의 경계를 정하시며 땅 위에 각종 풀과 채소, 열매 맺는 나무들을 두셨습니다. 무질서했던 세상이 하나님의 말씀에 따라 하늘과 땅으로 질서 있게 정돈되는 과정을 보시며 하나님은 흡족해 하셨습니다(6–13절).

Who is God?
Vv. 3, 6, 9, 11 God created the world through his word. The command ‘Let there be’ is God’s power to call forth existence. His commands for separation between light and darkness and water and sky as well as the sprouting of vegetation shows how everything has a purpose and point to fulfil. Even today, God continues the work of creation through those who give ear to him and obey.
말씀으로 세상을 창조하십니다. “있으라”는 명령은 존재를 불러내는 능력이며, “나뉘라”, “드러나라”, “내라”는 말씀은 각 피조물이 맡은 소명을 감당하라는 부르심입니다. 하나님은 오늘도 말씀을 듣고 순종하는 사람들을 통해 새로운 창조의 역사를 이루어 가십니다.

Vv. 4,10,12 God looked upon the created world and rejoiced, declaring it ‘good’. When the world moves in orderly harmony with God's will, he declares it to be ‘good.’ Today is the first day of the new year. Let us joyfully surrender our lives to the Lord this year, so that each day may be moulded according to his purpose and plan.
창조 세계를 보시고 “좋다”고 하며 기뻐하셨습니다(4, 10, 12절). 세상이 하나님의 뜻대로 질서 있게 움직일 때, 하나님은 여전히 “좋다” 말씀하십니다. 오늘은 새해의 첫날입니다. 올 한 해 우리의 삶도 하나님의 목적과 계획에 따라 매일 새롭게 빚어지도록 기쁨으로 주님께 내드립시다.
