1In the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim, 2 these kings made war with Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar). 3 And all these joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea). 4 Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled. 5 In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him came and defeated the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim, 6 and the Horites in their hill country of Seir as far as El-paran on the border of the wilderness. 7 Then they turned back and came to En-mishpat (that is, Kadesh) and defeated all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites who were dwelling in Hazazon-tamar. 8 Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) went out, and they joined battle in the Valley of Siddim 9 with Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar, four kings against five. 10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of bitumen pits, and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some fell into them, and the rest fled to the hill country. 11 So the enemy took all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their provisions, and went their way. 12 They also took Lot, the son of Abram's brother, who was dwelling in Sodom, and his possessions, and went their way. 13 Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, who was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and of Aner. These were allies of Abram. 14 When Abram heard that his kinsman had been taken captive, he led forth his trained men, born in his house,318 of them, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. 15 And he divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and defeated them and pursued them to Hobah, north of Damascus. 16 Then he brought back all the possessions, and also brought back his kinsman Lot with his possessions, and the women and the people. 17 After his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley). 18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.) 19 And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; 20 and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!” And Abram gave him a tenth of everything. 21 And the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the persons, but take the goods for yourself.” 22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have lifted my hand to the LORD, God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth, 23 that I would not take a thread or a sandal strap or anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’ 24 I will take nothing but what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me. Let Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre take their share.”
1시날 왕 아므라벨과, 엘라살 왕 아리옥과, 엘람 왕 그돌라오멜과, 고임 왕 디달의 시대에, 2 이 왕들이 소돔 왕 베라와, 고모라 왕 비르사와, 아드마 왕 시납과, 스보임 왕 세메벨과, 벨라 왕 곧 소알 왕과 싸웠다. 3 이 다섯 왕은 군대를 이끌고, 싯딤 벌판 곧 지금의 ‘소금 바다’에 모였다. 4 지난날에 이 왕들은 십이 년 동안이나 그돌라오멜을 섬기다가, 십삼 년째 되는 해에 반란을 일으켰던 것이다. 5 십사 년째 되는 해에는, 그돌라오멜이 자기와 동맹을 맺은 왕들을 데리고 일어나서, 아스드롯가르나임에서는 르바 사람을 치고, 함에서는 수스 사람을 치고, 사웨 기랴다임에서는 엠 사람을 치고, 6 세일 산간지방에서는 호리 사람을 쳐서, 광야 부근 엘바란까지 이르렀다. 7 그리고는, 쳐들어온 왕들은 방향을 바꿔서, 엔미스밧 곧 가데스로 가서, 아말렉 족의 온 들판과 하사손다말에 사는 아모리 족까지 쳤다. 8 그래서 소돔 왕과 고모라 왕과 아드마 왕과 스보임 왕과 벨라 왕 곧 소알 왕이 싯딤 벌판으로 출전하여, 쳐들어온 왕들과 맞서서 싸웠다. 9 이 다섯 왕은, 엘람 왕 그돌라오멜과 고임 왕 디달과 시날 왕 아므라벨과 엘라살 왕 아리옥, 이 네 왕을 맞아서 싸웠다. 10 싯딤 벌판은 온통 역청 수렁으로 가득 찼는데, 소돔 왕과 고모라 왕이 달아날 때에, 그들의 군인들 가운데서 일부는 그런 수렁에 빠지고, 나머지는 산간지방으로 달아났다. 11 그래서 쳐들어온 네 왕은 소돔과 고모라에 있는 모든 재물과 먹거리를 빼앗았다. 12 아브람의 조카 롯도 소돔에 살고 있었는데, 그들은 롯까지 사로잡아 가고, 그의 재산까지 빼앗았다. 13 거기에서 도망쳐 나온 사람 하나가 히브리 사람 아브람에게 와서, 이 사실을 알렸다. 그 때에 아브람은 아모리 사람 마므레의 땅, 상수리나무들이 있는 곳에서 살고 있었다. 마므레는 에스골과는 형제 사이이고, 아넬과도 형제 사이이다. 이들은 아브람과 동맹을 맺은 사람들이다. 14 아브람은 자기 조카가 사로잡혀 갔다는 말을 듣고, 집에서 낳아 훈련시킨 사병 삼백열여덟 명을 데리고 단까지 쫓아갔다. 15 그 날 밤에 그는 자기의 사병들을 몇 패로 나누어서 공격하게 하였다. 그는 적들을 쳐부수고, 다마스쿠스 북쪽 호바까지 뒤쫓았다. 16 그는 모든 재물을 되찾고, 그의 조카 롯과 롯의 재산도 되찾았으며, 부녀자들과 다른 사람들까지 되찾았다. 17 아브람이 그돌라오멜과 그와 동맹을 맺은 왕들을 쳐부수고 돌아온 뒤에, 소돔 왕이 아브람을 맞아서, 사웨 벌판 곧 왕의 벌판으로 나왔다. 18 그 때에 살렘 왕 멜기세덱은 빵과 포도주를 가지고 나왔다. 그는 가장 높으신 하나님의 제사장이다. 19 그는 아브람에게 복을 빌어 주었다. “천지의 주재, 가장 높으신 하나님, 아브람에게 복을 내려 주십시오. 20 아브람은 들으시오. 그대는, 원수들을 그대의 손에 넘겨주신 가장 높으신 하나님을 찬양하시오.” 아브람은 가지고 있는 모든 것에서 열의 하나를 멜기세덱에게 주었다. 21 소돔 왕이 아브람에게 말하였다. “사람들은 나에게 돌려주시고, 물건은 그대가 가지시오.” 22 아브람이 소돔 왕에게 말하였다. “하늘과 땅을 지으신 가장 높으신 주 하나님께, 나의 손을 들어서 맹세합니다. 23 그대의 것은 실오라기 하나나 신발 끈 하나라도 가지지 않겠습니다. 그러므로 그대는, 그대 덕분에 아브람이 부자가 되었다고는 절대로 말할 수 없을 것입니다. 24 나는 아무것도 가지지 않겠습니다. 다만 젊은이들이 먹은 것과, 나와 함께 싸우러 나간 사람들 곧 아넬과 에스골과 마므레에게로 돌아갈 몫만은 따로 내놓아서, 그들이 저마다 제 몫을 가질 수 있게 하시기 바랍니다.”
