1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. 9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) 16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
1태초에 ‘말씀’이 계셨다. 그 ‘말씀’은 하나님과 함께 계셨다. 그 ‘말씀’은 하나님이셨다. 2 그는 태초에 하나님과 함께 계셨다. 3 모든 것이 그로 말미암아 창조되었으니, 그가 없이 창조된 것은 하나도 없다. 창조된 것은 4 그에게서 생명을 얻었으니, 그 생명은 사람의 빛이었다. 5 그 빛이 어둠 속에서 비치니, 어둠이 그 빛을 이기지 못하였다. 6 하나님께서 보내신 사람이 있었다. 그 이름은 요한이었다. 7 그 사람은 그 빛을 증언하러 왔으니, 자기를 통하여 모든 사람을 믿게 하려는 것이었다. 8 그 사람은 빛이 아니었다. 그는 그 빛을 증언하러 왔을 따름이다. 9 참 빛이 있었다. 그 빛이 세상에 와서 모든 사람을 비추고 있다. 10 그는 세상에 계셨다. 세상이 그로 말미암아 생겨났는데도, 세상은 그를 알아보지 못하였다. 11 그가 자기 땅에 오셨으나, 그의 백성은 그를 맞아들이지 않았다. 12 그러나 그를 맞아들인 사람들, 곧 그 이름을 믿는 사람들에게는, 하나님의 자녀가 되는 특권을 주셨다. 13 이들은 혈통에서나, 육정에서나, 사람의 뜻에서 나지 아니하고, 하나님에게서 났다. 14 그 말씀은 육신이 되어 우리 가운데 사셨다. 우리는 그의 영광을 보았다. 그것은 아버지께서 주신, 외아들의 영광이었다. 그는 은혜와 진리가 충만하였다. 15 (요한은 그에 대하여 증언하여 외쳤다. “이분이 내가 말씀드린 바로 그분입니다. 내 뒤에 오시는 분이 나보다 앞서신 분이라고 말씀드린 것은, 이분을 두고 말한 것입니다. 그분은 사실 나보다 먼저 계신 분이기 때문입니다.”) 16 우리는 모두 그의 충만함에서 선물을 받되, 은혜에 은혜를 더하여 받았다. 17 율법은 모세를 통하여 받았고, 은혜와 진리는 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 생겨났다. 18 일찍이, 하나님을 본 사람은 아무도 없다. 아버지의 품속에 계신 외아들이신 하나님께서 하나님을 알려주셨다.
