1After Abimelech there arose to save Israel Tola the son of Puah, son of Dodo, a man of Issachar, and he lived at Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim. 2 And he judged Israel twenty-three years. Then he died and was buried at Shamir. 3 After him arose Jair the Gileadite, who judged Israel twenty-two years. 4 And he had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkeys, and they had thirty cities, called Havvoth-jair to this day, which are in the land of Gilead. 5 And Jair died and was buried in Kamon. 6 The people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. And they forsook the LORD and did not serve him. 7 So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the Ammonites, 8 and they crushed and oppressed the people of Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the people of Israel who were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead. 9 And the Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was severely distressed. 10 And the people of Israel cried out to the LORD, saying, “We have sinned against you, because we have forsaken our God and have served the Baals.” 11 And the LORD said to the people of Israel, “Did I not save you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites, from the Ammonites and from the Philistines? 12 The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites and the Maonites oppressed you, and you cried out to me, and I saved you out of their hand. 13 Yet you have forsaken me and served other gods; therefore I will save you no more. 14 Go and cry out to the gods whom you have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.” 15 And the people of Israel said to the LORD, “We have sinned; do to us whatever seems good to you. Only please deliver us this day.” 16 So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD, and he became impatient over the misery of Israel. 17 Then the Ammonites were called to arms, and they encamped in Gilead. And the people of Israel came together, and they encamped at Mizpah. 18 And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said one to another, “Who is the man who will begin to fight against the Ammonites? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”
1아비멜렉 다음에는 잇사갈 지파 사람 도도의 손자이며 부아의 아들인 돌라가 일어나 이스라엘을 구원하였는데, 그는 에브라임의 산간지방에 있는 사밀에 살고 있었다. 2 그는 이스라엘의 사사로 이십삼 년 동안 있다가, 죽어서 사밀에 묻혔다. 3 그 뒤에 길르앗 사람 야일이 일어나서, 이십이 년 동안 이스라엘의 사사로 있었다. 4 그에게는 아들이 서른 명이 있었는데, 그들은 서른 마리의 나귀를 타고 다녔고, 성읍도 길르앗 땅에 서른 개나 가지고 있었다. 그 성읍들은 오늘날까지도 하봇야일이라 불린다. 5 야일은 죽어서 가몬에 묻혔다. 6 이스라엘 자손이 다시 주님께서 보시는 앞에서 악을 저질렀다. 그들은 바알 신들과 아스다롯과 시리아의 신들과 시돈의 신들과 모압의 신들과 암몬 사람의 신들과 블레셋 사람의 신들을 섬기고, 주님을 저버려, 더 이상 주님을 섬기지 않았다. 7 그러므로 주님께서 이스라엘 백성에게 진노하시어, 그들을 블레셋 사람과 암몬 사람의 손에 내어주시니, 8 그 해에 그들이 이스라엘 자손을 억압하고 학대하니, 요단 강 동쪽 길르앗 지방 아모리 사람의 땅에 사는 온 이스라엘 자손이 열여덟 해 동안이나 그렇게 억압을 당하였다. 9 암몬 자손이 또 유다와 베냐민과 에브라임 지파를 치려고 요단 강을 건너왔으므로, 이스라엘 백성은 고통이 막심하였다. 10 그 때에야 비로소 이스라엘 자손이 주님께 부르짖었다. “우리가 우리 하나님을 저버리고 바알을 섬기어, 주님께 죄를 지었습니다.” 11 주님께서 이스라엘 자손에게 말씀하셨다. “내가 너희를 이집트 사람과 아모리 사람과 암몬 사람과 블레셋 사람에게서 구원하지 아니하였느냐? 12 시돈 사람과 아말렉 사람과 마온 사람이 너희를 압제할 때에도 너희가 나에게 부르짖었으므로, 내가 너희를 그들의 손아귀에서 구원하여 주었다. 13 그런데도 너희는 나를 저버리고 다른 신들을 섬겼다. 그러므로 내가 다시는 너희를 구원하여 주지 않을 것이니, 14 너희가 선택한 신들에게나 가서 부르짖어라. 너희가 괴로울 때에 그들에게 가서 구원하여 달라고 해라.” 15 그러자 이스라엘 자손이 주님께 말씀드렸다. “우리가 죄를 지었습니다. 주님의 뜻대로 다 하십시오. 그러나 오늘만은 우리를 구출하여 주십시오.” 16 그리고 그들이 자기들 가운데 있는 이방 신들을 제거하고 주님을 섬기니, 주님께서 이스라엘이 겪는 고통을 보고만 계실 수 없으셨다. 17 그 때에 암몬 자손이 집결하여 길르앗에 진을 치니, 이스라엘 자손도 모여서 미스바에 진을 쳤다. 18 그 때에 백성과 길르앗의 지도자들이 서로 이렇게 말하였다. “누가 먼저 나가서 암몬 자손과 싸우겠느냐? 그 사람이 길르앗에 사는 모든 사람의 통치자가 될 것이다.”
