1Now Jacob heard that the sons of Laban were saying, “Jacob has taken all that was our father's, and from what was our father's he has gained all this wealth.” 2 And Jacob saw that Laban did not regard him with favor as before. 3 Then the LORD said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers and to your kindred, and I will be with you.” 4 So Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah into the field where his flock was 5 and said to them, “I see that your father does not regard me with favor as he did before. But the God of my father has been with me. 6 You know that I have served your father with all my strength, 7 yet your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times. But God did not permit him to harm me. 8 If he said, ‘The spotted shall be your wages,’ then all the flock bore spotted; and if he said, ‘The striped shall be your wages,’ then all the flock bore striped. 9 Thus God has taken away the livestock of your father and given them to me. 10 In the breeding season of the flock I lifted up my eyes and saw in a dream that the goats that mated with the flock were striped, spotted, and mottled. 11 Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob,’ and I said, ‘Here I am!’ 12 And he said, ‘Lift up your eyes and see, all the goats that mate with the flock are striped, spotted, and mottled, for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you. 13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and made a vow to me. Now arise, go out from this land and return to the land of your kindred.’” 14 Then Rachel and Leah answered and said to him, “Is there any portion or inheritance left to us in our father's house? 15 Are we not regarded by him as foreigners? For he has sold us, and he has indeed devoured our money. 16 All the wealth that God has taken away from our father belongs to us and to our children. Now then, whatever God has said to you, do.”
1라반의 아들들이 하는 말이 야곱에게 들렸다. “야곱은 우리 아버지의 재산을 다 빼앗고, 우리 아버지의 재산으로 저처럼 큰 부자가 되었다.” 2 야곱이 라반의 안색을 살펴보니, 자기를 대하는 라반의 태도가 이전과 같지 않았다. 3 주님께서 야곱에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 네 조상의 땅, 너의 친족에게로 돌아가거라. 내가 너와 함께 있겠다.” 4 야곱이 라헬과 레아에게 심부름꾼을 보내어, 그들을 그의 가축 떼가 있는 들로 불러내서 5 일렀다. “장인어른께서 나를 대하시는 것이 전과 같지 않소. 그러나 내 조상의 하나님이 이제껏 나와 함께 계셨소. 6 당신들도 알다시피, 나는 있는 힘을 다해서, 장인어른의 일을 해 드렸소. 7 그러나 장인어른께서는 나에게 주실 품삯을 열 번이나 바꿔치시면서, 지금까지 나를 속이셨소. 그런데 하나님은, 장인어른이 나를 해치지는 못하게 하셨소. 8 장인어른께서 나더러 ‘점 있는 것들이 자네 품삯이 될 걸세’ 하면, 가축 떼가 모두 점 있는 새끼를 낳았고, ‘줄무늬 있는 것이 자네의 품삯이 될 걸세’ 하면, 가축 떼가 모두 줄무늬 있는 새끼를 낳았소. 9 하나님은 이렇게 장인어른의 가축 떼를 빼앗아서, 나에게 주셨소. 10 가축 떼가 새끼를 밸 때에, 한 번은, 내가 이런 꿈을 꾸었소. 내가 눈을 크게 뜨고 보니, 암컷들과 교미하는 숫염소들도, 줄무늬 있는 것이거나, 점이 있는 것이거나, 얼룩진 것들이었소. 11 그 꿈에서 하나님의 천사가 ‘야곱아!’ 하고 부르시기에 ‘여기 있습니다’ 하고 대답을 하니, 12 그 천사의 말이, ‘암염소와 교미하는 숫염소가 모두 줄무늬 있는 것들이거나 점이 있는 것들이거나 얼룩진 것들이니, 고개를 들고 똑바로 보아라. 라반이 이제까지 너에게 어떻게 하였는지, 내가 다 보았다. 13 나는 베델의 하나님이다. 네가 거기에서 기둥에 기름을 붓고, 거기에서 나에게 맹세하였다. 이제 너는 곧 이 땅을 떠나서, 네가 태어난 땅으로 돌아가거라’ 하고 말씀하셨소.” 14 라헬과 레아가 그에게 대답하였다. “이제는 우리가 우리 아버지의 집에서 얻을 분깃이나 유산이 더 있다고는 생각하지 않습니다. 15 아버지께서는 우리를 아주 딴 나라 사람으로 여기십니다. 아버지께서는 우리를 파실 뿐만 아니라, 우리 몫으로 돌아올 것까지 다 가지셨습니다. 16 하나님이 우리 아버지에게서 빼앗으신 것은 다 우리와 우리 자식들의 것입니다. 그러니 하나님이 당신에게 말씀하신 대로 다 하십시오.”
