Summing up


[ 1 Corinthians 11:2 - 11:16 ] (Hymn465)

2Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you.
3 But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.
4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head,
5 but every wife who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since it is the same as if her head were shaven.
6 For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head.
7 For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man.
8 For man was not made from woman, but woman from man.
9 Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.
10 That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.
11 Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman;
12 for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God.
13 Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a wife to pray to God with her head uncovered?
14 Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him,
15 but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.
16 If anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor do the churches of God.

2여러분이 나를 모든 면으로 기억하며, 또 내가 여러분에게 전해 준 대로 전통을 지키고 있으니, 나는 여러분을 칭찬합니다.
3 그런데 각 남자의 머리는 그리스도요, 여자의 머리는 남자요, 그리스도의 머리는 하나님이신 것을, 여러분이 알기를 바랍니다.
4 남자가 머리에 무엇을 쓰고 기도하거나 예언하는 것은 자기 머리를 부끄럽게 하는 것입니다.
5 그러나 여자가 머리에 무엇을 쓰지 않은 채로 기도하거나 예언하는 것은, 자기 머리를 부끄럽게 하는 것입니다. 그것은 머리를 밀어 버린 것과 꼭 마찬가지입니다.
6 여자가 머리에 아무것도 쓰지 않으려면, 머리를 깎아야 합니다. 그러나 머리를 깎거나 미는 것이 여자에게 부끄러운 일이면, 머리를 가려야 합니다.
7 그러나 남자는 하나님의 형상이요, 하나님의 영광이니, 머리를 가려서는 안 됩니다. 그러나 여자는 남자의 영광입니다.
8 남자가 여자에게서 난 것이 아니라, 여자가 남자에게서 났습니다.
9 또 남자가 여자를 위하여 지으심을 받은 것이 아니라, 여자가 남자를 위하여 지으심을 받았습니다.
10 그러므로 여자는 천사들 때문에 그 머리에 권위의 표를 지니고 있어야 합니다.
11 그러나 주님 안에서는, 남자 없이 여자가 있지 않고, 여자 없이 남자가 있지 않습니다.
12 여자가 남자에게서 난 것과 마찬가지로, 남자도 여자의 몸에서 났습니다. 그리고 모든 것은 다 하나님에게서 났습니다.
13 여러분은 스스로 판단하여 보십시오. 여자가 머리에 아무것도 쓰지 않은 채로 하나님께 기도하는 것이 마땅한 일이겠습니까?
14 자연 그 자체가 여러분에게 가르쳐 주지 않습니까? 남자가 머리를 길게 하는 것은 그에게 불명예가 되지만,
15 여자가 머리를 길게 하는 것은 그에게 영광이 되지 않습니까? 긴 머리카락은 그의 머리를 가려 주는 구실을 하는 것입니다.
16 이 문제를 두고 논쟁을 벌이려고 생각하는 사람이 있을지는 모르나, 그런 풍습은 우리에게도 없고, 하나님의 교회에도 없습니다.

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding
The Corinthian church followed most of Paul’s teachings, but they changed their hair in the manner of pagan ritual worshippers. Paul prohibited the believers, who worshipped the Creator God, from following the ways of idol worshippers as it tainted God’s glory (vv. 2-10). He was not speaking out of misogyny but teaching the believers to acknowledge God as the Lord of Creation. Paul declared that it was also an unnatural custom and concluded that pagan customs should not be brought into the church (vv. 11-16).
고린도 교회는 전반적으로 바울의 가르침을 따랐지만, 공적 예배에서 남녀가 이교 제의의 모습처럼 머리 모양을 바꾸는 문제를 보였습니다. 바울은 창조주 하나님을 예배하는 성도가 우상 숭배자의 모습을 따르는 것은 하나님이 주신 영광을 훼손하는 일이라며 이를 금합니다(2-10절). 그러나 이는 남녀의 우열을 말하려는 것이 아니라, 하나님이 창조주이심을 인정하라는 가르침입니다. 바울은 이런 풍습이 본성적으로도 부자연스럽다고 말하며, 이교적 관습을 교회에 들이지 말라고 결론짓습니다(11-16절).

What lesson is God teaching me?
VV. 2-16 There is a proper way to adorn ourselves for worship. Clothing styles can change depending on the culture and times. So, we cannot set a single standard or regulation, but we should dress in a way that befits God’s holiness and does not cause spiritual discomfort for others.
예배에 어울리는 옷차림과 몸가짐이 있습니다. 물론 사람들의 옷차림은 문화마다 다르고 시대에 따라 변합니다. 따라서 옷차림을 획일화하거나 규범화할 순 없습니다. 그렇지만 하나님의 거룩하심에 어울리도록, 다른 사람의 정서에 편안함을 주도록 입는 것이 좋습니다.

VV. 11-12 Men and women are equal. Paul addressed the order of creation but clearly emphasised that men and women were equal, so that it was not misinterpreted as a justification of male superiority. Men and women were created in different orders, but they are equal in rank and capability.
남자와 여자는 차등이 없습니다. 바울은 하나님이 창조주이심을 강조하려고 처음 창조의 순서를 다뤘지만, 그것을 우열로 받아들이지 않도록 남자와 여자는 동등하다고 분명하게 말했습니다. 남자와 여자는 창조의 선후는 있었지만, 지위의 고하나 역량의 우열은 없습니다.
