1When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, 2 that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.” 3 Then Abram fell on his face. And God said to him, 4 “Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. 5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make you into nations, and kings shall come from you. 7 And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. 8 And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.” 9 And God said to Abraham, “As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations. 10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised. Every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring, 13 both he who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money, shall surely be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant. 14 Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.” 15 And God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. 16 I will bless her, and moreover, I will give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she shall become nations; kings of peoples shall come from her.” 17 Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed and said to himself, “Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” 18 And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!” 19 God said, “No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him. 20 As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him and will make him fruitful and multiply him greatly. He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him into a great nation. 21 But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this time next year.” 22 When he had finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham. 23 Then Abraham took Ishmael his son and all those born in his house or bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very day, as God had said to him. 24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 26 That very day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised. 27 And all the men of his house, those born in the house and those bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
1아브람의 나이 아흔아홉이 되었을 때에, 주님께서 그에게 나타나셔서 말씀하셨다. “나는 전능한 하나님이다. 나에게 순종하며, 흠 없이 살아라. 2 나와 너 사이에 내가 몸소 언약을 세워서, 너를 크게 번성하게 하겠다.” 3 아브람이 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려 있는데, 하나님이 그에게 말씀하셨다. 4 “나는 너와 언약을 세우고 약속한다. 너는 여러 민족의 조상이 될 것이다. 5 내가 너를 여러 민족의 아버지로 만들었으니, 이제부터는 너의 이름이 아브람이 아니라 아브라함이다. 6 내가 너를 크게 번성하게 하겠다. 너에게서 여러 민족이 나오고, 너에게서 왕들도 나올 것이다. 7 내가 너와 세우는 언약은, 나와 너 사이에 맺는 것일 뿐 아니라, 너의 뒤에 오는 너의 자손과도 대대로 세우는 영원한 언약이다. 이 언약을 따라서, 나는, 너의 하나님이 될 뿐만 아니라, 뒤에 오는 너의 자손의 하나님도 될 것이다. 8 네가 지금 나그네로 사는 이 가나안 땅을, 너와 네 뒤에 오는 자손에게 영원한 소유로 모두 주고, 나는 그들의 하나님이 될 것이다.” 9 하나님이 또 아브라함에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 나와 세운 언약을 잘 지켜야 하고, 네 뒤에 오는 너의 자손도 대대로 이 언약을 잘 지켜야 한다. 10 너희 가운데서, 남자는 모두 할례를 받아야 한다. 이것은 너와 네 뒤에 오는 너의 자손과 세우는 나의 언약, 곧 너희가 모두 지켜야 할 언약이다. 11 너희는 포피를 베어서, 할례를 받게 하여라. 이것이 나와 너희 사이에 세우는 언약의 표이다. 12 대대로 너희 가운데서, 남자는 모두 난 지 여드레 만에 할례를 받아야 한다. 너희의 집에서 태어난 종들과 너희가 외국인에게 돈을 주고서 사온 종도, 비록 너희의 자손은 아니라 해도, 마찬가지로 할례를 받아야 한다. 13 집에서 태어난 종과 외국인에게 돈을 주고서 사온 종도, 할례를 받아야 한다. 그렇게 하여야만, 나의 언약이 너희 몸에 영원한 언약으로 새겨질 것이다. 14 할례를 받지 않은 남자 곧 포피를 베지 않은 남자는 나의 언약을 깨뜨린 자이니, 그는 나의 백성에게서 끊어진다.” 15 하나님이 아브라함에게 또 말씀하셨다. “너의 아내 사래를 이제 사래라고 하지 말고, 사라라고 하여라. 16 내가 그에게 복을 주어, 너에게 아들을 낳아 주게 하겠다. 내가 너의 아내에게 복을 주어서, 여러 민족의 어머니가 되게 하고, 백성들을 다스리는 왕들이 그에게서 나오게 하겠다.” 17 아브라함은 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려, 웃으면서 혼잣말을 하였다. “나이 백 살 된 남자가 아들을 낳는다고? 또 아흔 살이나 되는 사라가 아이를 낳을 수 있을까?” 18 아브라함은 하나님께 아뢰었다. “이스마엘이나 하나님께서 주시는 복을 받으면서 살기를 바랍니다.” 19 하나님이 말씀하셨다. “아니다. 너의 아내 사라가 너에게 아들을 낳아 줄 것이다. 아이를 낳거든, 이름을 이삭이라고 하여라. 내가 그와 언약을 세울 것이니, 그 언약은, 그의 뒤에 오는 자손에게도, 영원한 언약이 될 것이다. 20 내가 너의 말을 들었으니, 내가 반드시 이스마엘에게 복을 주어서, 그가 자식을 많이 낳게 하고, 그 자손이 크게 불어나게 할 것이다. 그에게서 열두 명의 영도자가 나오게 하고, 그가 큰 나라를 이루게 하겠다. 21 그러나 나는 내년 이맘때에, 사라가 너에게 낳아 줄 아들 이삭과 언약을 세우겠다.” 22 하나님은 아브라함에게 말씀을 다 하시고, 그를 떠나서 올라가셨다. 23 바로 그 날에 아브라함은, 자기 아들 이스마엘과, 집에서 태어난 모든 종과, 돈을 주고 사온 모든 종 곧 자기 집안의 모든 남자와 함께, 하나님이 말씀하신 대로, 포피를 베어서 할례를 받았다. 24 아브라함이 포피를 베어서 할례를 받은 것은, 그의 나이 아흔아홉 살 때이고, 25 그의 아들 이스마엘이 포피를 베어서 할례를 받은 것은, 이스마엘의 나이 열세 살 때이다. 26 아브라함과 그의 아들 이스마엘은 같은 날에 할례를 받았다. 27 집에서 태어난 종과, 외국인에게서 돈을 주고 사온 종과, 아브라함 집안의 모든 남자가 아브라함과 함께 할례를 받았다.
