29Then the Spirit of the LORD was upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh and passed on to Mizpah of Gilead, and from Mizpah of Gilead he passed on to the Ammonites. 30 And Jephthah made a vow to the LORD and said, “If you will give the Ammonites into my hand, 31 then whatever comes out from the doors of my house to meet me when I return in peace from the Ammonites shall be the LORD’s, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.” 32 So Jephthah crossed over to the Ammonites to fight against them, and the LORD gave them into his hand. 33 And he struck them from Aroer to the neighborhood of Minnith, twenty cities, and as far as Abel-keramim, with a great blow. So the Ammonites were subdued before the people of Israel. 34 Then Jephthah came to his home at Mizpah. And behold, his daughter came out to meet him with tambourines and with dances. She was his only child; besides her he had neither son nor daughter. 35 And as soon as he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low, and you have become the cause of great trouble to me. For I have opened my mouth to the LORD, and I cannot take back my vow.” 36 And she said to him, “My father, you have opened your mouth to the LORD; do to me according to what has gone out of your mouth, now that the LORD has avenged you on your enemies, on the Ammonites.” 37 So she said to her father, “Let this thing be done for me: leave me alone two months, that I may go up and down on the mountains and weep for my virginity, I and my companions.” 38 So he said, “Go.” Then he sent her away for two months, and she departed, she and her companions, and wept for her virginity on the mountains. 39 And at the end of two months, she returned to her father, who did with her according to his vow that he had made. She had never known a man, and it became a custom in Israel 40 that the daughters of Israel went year by year to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in the year.
29주님의 영이 입다에게 내렸다. 그는 길르앗과 므낫세 지역을 돌아보고, 길르앗의 미스바로 돌아왔다가, 길르앗의 미스바에서 다시 암몬 자손이 있는 쪽으로 나아갔다. 30 그 때에 입다가 주님께 서원하였다. “하나님이 암몬 자손을 내 손에 넘겨 주신다면, 31 내가 암몬 자손을 이기고 무사히 돌아올 때에, 누구든지 내 집 문에서 먼저 나를 맞으러 나오는 그 사람은 주님의 것이 될 것입니다. 내가 번제물로 그를 드리겠습니다.” 32 그런 다음에 입다는 암몬 자손에게 건너가서, 그들과 싸웠다. 주님께서 그들을 입다의 손에 넘겨 주시니, 33 그는 아로엘에서 민닛까지 스무 성읍을 쳐부수고, 아벨그라밈까지 크게 무찔렀다. 그리하여 암몬 자손은 이스라엘 자손 앞에 항복하고 말았다. 34 입다가 미스바에 있는 자기 집으로 돌아올 때에, 소구를 치고 춤추며 그를 맞으려고 나오는 사람은 바로 그의 딸이었다. 그는 입다의 무남독녀였다. 35 입다는 자기 딸을 보는 순간 옷을 찢으며 부르짖었다. “아이고, 이 자식아, 네가 이 아버지의 가슴을 후벼 파는구나. 나를 이렇게 괴롭히는 것이 하필이면 왜 너란 말이냐! 주님께 서원한 것이어서 돌이킬 수도 없으니, 어찌한단 말이냐!” 36 그러자 딸이 아버지에게 말하였다. “아버지, 아버지께서 입으로 주님께 서원하셨으니, 서원하신 말씀대로 저에게 하십시오. 이미 주님께서는 아버지의 원수인 암몬 자손에게 복수하여 주셨습니다.” 37 딸은 또 아버지에게 말하였다. “한 가지만 저에게 허락하여 주시기 바랍니다. 두 달만 저에게 말미를 주십시오. 처녀로 죽는 이 몸, 친구들과 함께 산으로 가서 실컷 울도록 해주시기 바랍니다.” 38 입다는 딸더러 가라고 허락하고, 두 달 동안 말미를 주어 보냈다. 딸은 친구들과 더불어 산으로 올라가서, 처녀로 죽는 것을 슬퍼하며 실컷 울었다. 39 두 달 만에 딸이 아버지에게로 돌아오자, 아버지는 주님께 서원한 것을 지켰고, 그 딸은 남자를 알지 못하는 처녀의 몸으로 죽었다. 이스라엘에서 한 관습이 생겼다. 40 이스라엘 여자들이 해마다 산으로 들어가서, 길르앗 사람 입다의 딸을 애도하여 나흘 동안 슬피 우는 것이다.
