8When Israel saw Joseph's sons, he said, “Who are these?” 9 Joseph said to his father, “They are my sons, whom God has given me here.” And he said, “Bring them to me, please, that I may bless them.” 10 Now the eyes of Israel were dim with age, so that he could not see. So Joseph brought them near him, and he kissed them and embraced them. 11 And Israel said to Joseph, “I never expected to see your face; and behold, God has let me see your offspring also.” 12 Then Joseph removed them from his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth. 13 And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near him. 14 And Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, who was the younger, and his left hand on the head of Manasseh, crossing his hands (for Manasseh was the firstborn). 15 And he blessed Joseph and said, “The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life long to this day, 16 the angel who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the boys; and in them let my name be carried on, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.” 17 When Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him, and he took his father's hand to move it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head. 18 And Joseph said to his father, “Not this way, my father; since this one is the firstborn, put your right hand on his head.” 19 But his father refused and said, “I know, my son, I know. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great. Nevertheless, his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his offspring shall become a multitude of nations.” 20 So he blessed them that day, saying, “By you Israel will pronounce blessings, saying, ‘God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh.’” Thus he put Ephraim before Manasseh. 21 Then Israel said to Joseph, “Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you and will bring you again to the land of your fathers. 22 Moreover, I have given to you rather than to your brothers one mountain slope that I took from the hand of the Amorites with my sword and with my bow.”
8이스라엘이 요셉의 아들들을 보면서 물었다. “이 아이들이 누구냐?” 9 요셉이 자기 아버지에게 대답하였다. “이 아이들은 여기에서 하나님이 저에게 주신 자식들입니다.” 이스라엘이 말하였다. “아이들을 나에게로 가까이 데리고 오너라. 내가 아이들에게 축복하겠다.” 10 이스라엘은 나이가 많았으므로, 눈이 어두워서 앞을 볼 수 없었다. 요셉이 두 아들을 아버지에게로 이끌고 가니, 야곱이 그들에게 입을 맞추고 끌어안았다. 11 이스라엘이 요셉에게 말하였다. “내가 너의 얼굴을 다시 볼 것이라고는 생각도 못하였는데, 이제 하나님은, 내가 너의 자식들까지 볼 수 있도록 허락하셨구나.” 12 요셉은 이스라엘의 무릎 사이에서 두 아이들을 물러나게 하고, 땅에 얼굴을 대고 엎드려서 절을 하였다. 13 그런 다음에 요셉은 두 아이를 데려다가, 오른손으로 에브라임을 이끌어서 이스라엘의 왼쪽에 서게 하고, 왼손으로 므낫세를 이끌어서 이스라엘의 오른쪽에 서게 하였다. 14 그런데 이스라엘은, 에브라임이 작은 아들인데도 그의 오른손을 에브라임의 머리 위에 얹고, 므낫세는 맏아들인데도 그의 왼손을 므낫세의 머리 위에 얹었다. 야곱이 그의 팔을 엇갈리게 내민 것이다. 15 야곱이 요셉을 축복하였다. “나의 할아버지 아브라함과 아버지 이삭을 보살펴 주신 하나님, 내가 태어난 날로부터 오늘에 이르기까지 나의 목자가 되어주신 하나님, 16 온갖 어려움에서 나를 건져 주신 천사께서 이 아이들에게 복을 내려 주시기를 빕니다. 나의 이름과 할아버지의 이름 아브라함과 아버지의 이름 이삭이 이 아이들에게서 살아 있게 하여 주시기를 빕니다. 이 아이들의 자손이 이 땅에서 크게 불어나게 하여 주시기를 빕니다.” 17 요셉은 아버지가 오른손을 에브라임의 머리 위에 얹은 것을 보고서, 못마땅하게 여겼다. 요셉은 아버지의 오른손을 에브라임의 머리에서 므낫세의 머리로 옮기려고, 아버지의 오른손을 잡고 말하였다. 18 “아닙니다, 아버지! 이 아이가 맏아들입니다. 아버지의 오른손을 큰 아이의 머리에 얹으셔야 합니다.” 19 그러나 그의 아버지는 거절하면서 대답하였다. “나도 안다. 내 아들아, 나도 안다. 므낫세가 한 겨레를 이루고 크게 되겠지만, 그 아우가 형보다 더 크게 되고, 아우의 자손에게서 여러 겨레가 갈라져 나올 것이다.” 20 그 날, 야곱은 이렇게 그들을 축복하였다. “이스라엘 백성이 너희의 이름으로 축복할 것이니 ‘하나님이 너를 에브라임과 같고 므낫세와 같게 하시기를 빈다’고 할 것이다.” 이렇게 야곱은 에브라임을 므낫세보다 앞세웠다. 21 이스라엘이 요셉에게 말하였다. “나는 곧 죽는다. 그러나 하나님이 너희와 함께 계시고, 너희를 조상들의 땅으로 돌아가게 하실 것이다. 22 그리고 네 형제들 위에 군림할 너에게는, 세겜을 더 준다. 세겜은 내가 칼과 활로 아모리 사람의 손에서 빼앗은 것이다.”
