31Since it was the day of Preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. 32 So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with him. 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. 35 He who saw it has borne witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—that you also may believe. 36 For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken.” 37 And again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.” 38 After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body. 39 Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus by night, came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds in weight. 40 So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. 41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. 42 So because of the Jewish day of Preparation, since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.
31유대 사람들은 그 날이 유월절 준비일이므로, 안식일에 시체들을 십자가에 그냥 두지 않으려고, 그 시체의 다리를 꺾어서 치워달라고 빌라도에게 요청하였다. 그 안식일은 큰 날이었기 때문이다. 32 그래서 병사들이 가서, 먼저 예수와 함께 십자가에 달린 한 사람의 다리와 또 다른 한 사람의 다리를 꺾고 나서, 33 예수께 와서는, 그가 이미 죽으신 것을 보고서, 다리를 꺾지 않았다. 34 그러나 병사들 가운데 하나가 창으로 그 옆구리를 찌르니, 곧 피와 물이 흘러나왔다. 35 (이것은 목격자가 증언한 것이다. 그래서 그의 증언은 참되다. 그는 자기의 말이 진실하다는 것을 알고 있다. 그는 여러분들도 믿게 하려고 증언한 것이다.) 36 일이 이렇게 된 것은, ‘그의 뼈가 하나도 부러지지 않을 것이다’ 한 성경 말씀이 이루어지게 하려는 것이었다. 37 또 성경에 ‘그들은 자기들이 찌른 사람을 쳐다볼 것이다’ 한 말씀도 있다. 38 그 뒤에 아리마대 사람 요셉이 예수의 시신을 거두게 하여 달라고 빌라도에게 청하였다. 그는 예수의 제자인데, 유대 사람이 무서워서, 그것을 숨기고 있었다. 빌라도가 허락하니, 그는 가서 예수의 시신을 내렸다. 39 또 전에 예수를 밤중에 찾아갔던 니고데모도 몰약에 침향을 섞은 것을 백 근쯤 가지고 왔다. 40 그들은 예수의 시신을 모셔다가, 유대 사람의 장례 풍속대로 향료와 함께 삼베로 감았다. 41 예수가 십자가에 달리신 곳에, 동산이 있었는데, 그 동산에는 아직 사람을 장사한 일이 없는 새 무덤이 하나 있었다. 42 그 날은 유대 사람이 안식일을 준비하는 날이고, 또 무덤이 가까이 있었기 때문에, 그들은 예수를 거기에 모셨다.
