1The oracle concerning the wilderness of the sea. As whirlwinds in the Negeb sweep on, it comes from the wilderness, from a terrible land. 2 A stern vision is told to me; the traitor betrays, and the destroyer destroys. Go up, O Elam; lay siege, O Media; all the sighing she has caused I bring to an end. 3 Therefore my loins are filled with anguish; pangs have seized me, like the pangs of a woman in labor; I am bowed down so that I cannot hear; I am dismayed so that I cannot see. 4 My heart staggers; horror has appalled me; the twilight I longed for has been turned for me into trembling. 5 They prepare the table, they spread the rugs, they eat, they drink. Arise, O princes; oil the shield! 6 For thus the Lord said to me: “Go, set a watchman; let him announce what he sees. 7 When he sees riders, horsemen in pairs, riders on donkeys, riders on camels, let him listen diligently, very diligently.” 8 Then he who saw cried out: “Upon a watchtower I stand, O Lord, continually by day, and at my post I am stationed whole nights. 9 And behold, here come riders, horsemen in pairs!” And he answered, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the carved images of her gods he has shattered to the ground.” 10 O my threshed and winnowed one, what I have heard from the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, I announce to you. 11 The oracle concerning Dumah. One is calling to me from Seir, “Watchman, what time of the night? Watchman, what time of the night?” 12 The watchman says: “Morning comes, and also the night. If you will inquire, inquire; come back again.” 13 The oracle concerning Arabia. In the thickets in Arabia you will lodge, O caravans of Dedanites. 14 To the thirsty bring water; meet the fugitive with bread, O inhabitants of the land of Tema. 15 For they have fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, from the bent bow, and from the press of battle. 16 For thus the Lord said to me, “Within a year, according to the years of a hired worker, all the glory of Kedar will come to an end. 17 And the remainder of the archers of the mighty men of the sons of Kedar will be few, for the LORD, the God of Israel, has spoken.”
1이것은 해변 광야를 두고 하신 엄한 경고의 말씀이다. 남쪽 광야에서 불어오는 회오리바람처럼 침략자가 광야에서 쳐들어온다. 저 무서운 땅에서 몰아쳐 온다. 2 나는 끔찍한 계시를 보았다. 배신하는 자가 배신하고 파괴하는 자가 파괴한다! 엘람아, 공격하여라! 메대야, 에워싸거라! “내가 바빌론의 횡포를 그치게 하고 억압받는 사람들의 탄식소리를 그치게 하겠다.” 3 그러자 나는, 허리가 끊어지는 것처럼 아팠다. 아기를 낳는 산모의 고통이 이런 것일까? 온 몸이 견딜 수 없이 아팠다. 그 말씀을 듣고 귀가 멀었으며, 그 광경을 보고 눈이 멀었다. 4 나의 마음은 갈피를 잡지 못하고, 공포에 질려 떨었다. 내가 그처럼 보고 싶어 한 희망찬 새벽빛은, 도리어 나를 무서워 떨게 하였다. 5 내가 보니, 사람들이 잔칫상을 차려 놓고, 방석을 깔고 앉아서, 먹고 마신다. 갑자기 누가 명령한다. “너희 지휘관들아, 일어나거라. 방패를 들어라.” 6 주님께서 나에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “너는 가서 파수꾼을 세우고 그가 보는 대로 보고하라고 하여라. 7 기마병과 함께 오는 병거를 보거나, 나귀나 낙타를 탄 사람이 나타나면, 주의하여 살펴보라고 하여라.” 8 파수꾼이 외친다. “지휘관님, 제가 온종일 망대 위에 서 있었습니다. 밤새 경계 구역을 계속 지키고 있었습니다.” 9 그런데, 갑자기 병거가 몰려오고, 기마병이 무리를 지어 온다. 누가 소리친다. “바빌론이 함락되었다! 바빌론이 함락되었다! 조각한 신상들이 모두 땅에 떨어져서 박살났다!” 10 아, 짓밟히던 나의 겨레여, 타작마당에서 으깨지던 나의 동포여, 이스라엘의 하나님 만군의 주님께서 나에게 말씀하신 것을, 이렇게 내가 그대들에게 전한다. 11 이것은 두마를 두고 하신 엄한 경고의 말씀이다. 세일에서 누가 나를 부른다. “파수꾼아, 밤이 얼마나 지났느냐? 파수꾼아, 날이 새려면 얼마나 더 남았느냐?” 12 파수꾼이 대답한다. “아침이 곧 온다. 그러나 또다시 밤이 온다. 묻고 싶거든, 물어 보아라. 다시 와서 물어 보아라.” 13 이것은 아라비아를 두고 하신 엄한 경고의 말씀이다. 드단 사람들아, 아라비아의 메마른 덤불 속에서 밤을 지새우는 드단의 행상들아, 14 목마른 피난민들에게 마실 물을 주어라. 데마 땅에 사는 사람들아, 아라비아의 피난민들에게 먹거리를 가져다주어라. 15 그들은 칼을 피하여 도망 다니는 사람들이다. 칼이 그들을 치려 하고, 화살이 그들을 꿰뚫으려 하고, 전쟁이 그들의 목숨을 노리므로, 도망 다니는 신세가 되었다. 16 주님께서 나에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “일 년 기한으로 머슴살이를 하게 된 머슴이 날 수를 세듯이, 이제 내가 일 년을 센다. 일 년 만에 게달의 모든 허세가 사라질 것이다. 17 게달의 자손 가운데서 활 쏘는 용사들이 얼마 남는다고 하여도, 그 수는 매우 적을 것이다.” 주 이스라엘의 하나님께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다.
