28Then they led Jesus from the house of Caiaphas to the governor’s headquarters. It was early morning. They themselves did not enter the governor’s headquarters, so that they would not be defiled, but could eat the Passover. 29 So Pilate went outside to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” 30 They answered him, “If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.” 31 Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.” The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.” 32 This was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken to show by what kind of death he was going to die. 33 So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?” 35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” 36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” 37 Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” 38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him.
28사람들이 가야바의 집에서 총독 관저로 예수를 끌고 갔다. 때는 이른 아침이었다. 그들은 몸을 더럽히지 않고 유월절 음식을 먹기 위하여 관저 안에는 들어가지 않았다. 29 빌라도가 그들에게 나와서 “당신들은 이 사람을 무슨 일로 고발하는 거요?” 하고 물었다. 30 그들이 빌라도에게 대답하였다. “이 사람이 악한 일을 하는 사람이 아니라면, 우리가 총독님께 넘기지 않았을 것입니다.” 31 빌라도가 그들에게 말하였다. “그를 데리고 가서, 당신들의 법대로 재판하시오.” 유대 사람들이 “우리는 사람을 죽일 권한이 없습니다” 하고 대답하였다. 32 이렇게 하여, 예수께서 자기가 어떠한 죽음으로 죽을 것인가를 암시하여 주신 말씀이 이루어졌다. 33 빌라도가 다시 관저 안으로 들어가, 예수를 불러내서 물었다. “당신이 유대 사람들의 왕이오?” 34 예수께서 대답하셨다. “당신이 하는 그 말은 당신의 생각에서 나온 말이오? 그렇지 않으면, 나에 관하여 다른 사람들이 말하여 준 것이오?” 35 빌라도가 말하였다. “내가 유대 사람이란 말이오? 당신의 동족과 대제사장들이 당신을 나에게 넘겨주었소. 당신은 무슨 일을 하였소?” 36 예수께서 대답하셨다. “내 나라는 이 세상에 속한 것이 아니오. 나의 나라가 세상에 속한 것이라면, 나의 부하들이 싸워서, 나를 유대 사람들의 손에 넘어가지 않게 하였을 것이오. 그러나 사실로 내 나라는 이 세상에 속한 것이 아니오.” 37 빌라도가 예수께 물었다. “그러면 당신은 왕이오?” 예수께서 대답하셨다. “당신이 말한 대로 나는 왕이오. 나는 진리를 증언하기 위하여 태어났으며, 진리를 증언하기 위하여 세상에 왔소. 진리에 속한 사람은, 누구나 내가 하는 말을 듣소.” 38 빌라도가 예수께 “진리가 무엇이오?” 하고 물었다. 빌라도는 이 말을 하고, 다시 유대 사람들에게로 나아와서 말하였다. “나는 그에게서 아무 죄도 찾지 못하였소.
