WHEN LOVE SHOWS UP		사랑이 찾아올 때
[ Deuteronomy 15:7 - 15:11 ] - hymn 293 Give generously to [the needy] . . . and do so without a grudging heart. [ DEUTERONOMY 15:10 ] “Why are you crying?” The question was asked by a volunteer for a Christian relief ministry helping those whose homes had been destroyed by Hurricane Helene. The woman (who had burst into tears in the previous moment) replied, “I’m not crying because I lost everything. I’m crying because love just showed up.” God’s heart shows itself in His desire that we help those in need. When Moses gave the people of Israel God’s instructions before they entered the land He’d promised them, he told them, “Do not be hardhearted or tightfisted” toward the poor. “Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need” (DEUTERONOMY 15:7-8). Their hearts toward the poor were to reflect God’s own: “Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart” (15:10). Whether in disastrous situations or everyday life, when we give to those in need out of the blessings God has kindly given us, we make evident the love of His Son, who came “to proclaim good news to the poor” (LUKE 4:18). In fact, God promises He “will bless” those who share His unselfishness with others (DEUTERONOMY 15:10), both in this life and the next (SEE LUKE 14:14). We can’t see God yet, but others may catch a glimpse of Him when we emulate His compassion for them. May His love show up as kindness through us today. (조금 전에 눈물을 터뜨렸던) 그 여성이 대답했습니다. “모든 것을 잃어서 우는 게 아니에요. 사랑이 찾아와서 우는 거예요.” 하나님의 마음은 어려운 이들을 우리가 도와주기 원하시는 그분의 마음에서 드러납니다. 모세는 하나님이 약속하신 땅에 들어가기 전 이스라엘 백성에게 하나님의 명령을 전할 때, “가난한 자에게 마음을 굳게 하거나 손을 움켜쥐지 말고, 그들에게 손을 넓게 펴서 필요한 것을 아낌없이 빌려주라”(신명기 15:7-8) 고 했습니다. 가난한 자를 대하는 그들의 마음으로 하나님 마음을 보여주라는 것이었습니다. “그들에게 너그럽게 주고 아까워하는 마음 없이 하라”(15:10). 재난 때에나 일상 생활에서 하나님이 우리에게 은혜로 주신 복을 어려운 이들과 나누는 것은 “가난한 자에게 복음을 전하러”(누가복음 4:18) 오신 아들 예수님의 사랑을 보여주는 것입니다. 실제로 하나님은 자신의 것을 내어주는 하나님의 사랑을 본받는 자들에게 이 세상이나 다음 세상에서(누가복음 14:14 참조) “복을 주실 것”이라 약속하셨습니다(신명기 15:10). 우리가 지금은 하나님을 볼 수 없지만, 하나님의 자비를 본받아 베푸는 우리의 모습을 통해 사람들은 하나님의 모습을 엿볼 수 있을 것입니다. 하나님의 사랑이 오늘 우리를 통해 친절한 모습으로 나타나기를 바랍니다.

Merciful, generous Father, please help me give to others with an open heart, so that they may see Your love in me.

7 If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them.

8 Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need.

9 Be careful not to harbor this wicked thought: “The seventh year, the year for canceling debts, is near,” so that you do not show ill will toward the needy among your fellow Israelites and give them nothing. They may then appeal to the Lord against you, and you will be found guilty of sin.

10 Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.

11 There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.

자비롭고 너그러우신 하나님 아버지, 제 안에 있는 하나님의 사랑이 나타나도록 열린 마음으로 사람들에게 내어주게 하소서.

7 ○네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 주신 땅 어느 성읍에서든지 가난한 형제가 너와 함께 거주하거든 그 가난한 형제에게 네 마음을 완악하게 하지 말며 네 손을 움켜 쥐지 말고

8 반드시 네 손을 그에게 펴서 그에게 필요한 대로 쓸 것을 넉넉히 꾸어주라

9 삼가 너는 마음에 악한 생각을 품지 말라 곧 이르기를 일곱째 해 면제년이 가까이 왔다 하고 네 궁핍한 형제를 악한 눈으로 바라보며 아무것도 주지 아니하면 그가 너를 여호와께 호소하리니 그것이 네게 죄가 되리라

10 너는 반드시 그에게 줄 것이요, 줄 때에는 아끼는 마음을 품지 말 것이니라 이로 말미암아 네 하나님 여호와께서 네가 하는 모든 일과 네 손이 닿는 모든 일에 네게 복을 주시리라

11 땅에는 언제든지 가난한 자가 그치지 아니하겠으므로 내가 네게 명령하여 이르노니 너는 반드시 네 땅 안에 네 형제 중 곤란한 자와 궁핍한 자에게 네 손을 펼지니라
