LIFE AND DEATH		삶과 죽음
[ Ecclesiastes 7:1 - 7:10 ] - hymn 170 Death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart. [ ECCLESIASTES 7:2 ] Besides attending ceremonies and signing policies after taking the oath of office, new US presidents are greeted with a cold reality: They start making their own funeral plans. That way the country will be prepared to celebrate their lives when they die. George H. W. Bush was asked if it was “weird” to be planning his own memorial. He replied, “You kind of get used to it.” Historians will write about their legacies, but presidents get to plan the personal and traditional parts of their services and the ways they will be remembered. Death is a sobering reality we all must face. King Solomon, who searched for the meaning of life in pleasure, work, and knowledge, and came up empty, said, “It is better to go to a house of mourn-ing than to go to a house of feasting” (ECCLESIASTES 7:2). Negative situations give more perspective than happy times. If we face the reality of death, we can better prepare for what comes after. Verse two adds, “Death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart.” We should ponder it and plan on it. Preparation comes from receiving forgiveness of sin from Jesus, who died for us and rose again. Everyone dies because death came when the first man, Adam, disobeyed God, and we have followed his ways. But “everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life” (1 CORINTHIANS 15:22 nlt). [전도서 7:2, 현대인의 성경] 미국의 새 대통령들은 취임식에서 선서를 한 후 여러 정책들에 서명을 하지만, 그 외에도 자신의 냉혹한 현실과 마주하게 됩니다. 바로 자신의 장례식 계획을 세워야 하는 것입니다. 그렇게 함으로써 국가는 대통령이 죽었을 때 그의 생애를 기릴 준비를 하게 됩니다. 조지 H. W. 부시가 자신의 장례식을 계획하는 일이 “이상하지” 않느냐는 질문을 받았을 때, 그는 “하다 보면 익숙해집니다.”라고 대답했습니다. 역사가들은 대통령이 남긴 일들을 기록하지만, 대통령은 자신의 장례식의 사적이고 전통적인 부분들과 자신을 추모하는 방식들을 계획할 수 있습니다. 죽음은 우리 모두가 반드시 만나야 하는 냉엄한 현실입니다. 환락과 일, 그리고 지식에서 삶의 의미를 찾아 헤매다 결국 빈손으로 끝나버린 솔로몬 왕은 “초상집에 가는 것이 잔치집에 가는 것보다 낫다”(전도서 7:2)고 말했습니다. 부정적인 상황은 행복한 때보다 더 깊이 생각하게 만듭니다. 죽음이란 현실을 직시하면 우리는 그 다음에 있을 일을 더 잘 준비할 수 있습니다. 2절 말씀은 이어서 “모두 죽을 수밖에 없으니 살아 있을 때 이것을 명심하는 것이 좋다” (현대인의 성경)고 말합니다. 우리는 죽음에 대해 깊이 생각하고 준비해야 합니다. 그 준비는 우리를 위해 죽으시고 다시 살아나신 예수님으로부터 죄 사함을 받는 일에서 시작됩니다. 첫 사람 아담이 하나님께 불순종함으로 죽음이 왔고 우리 모두 그의 길을 따랐기에 사람은 누구나 다 죽습니다. 그러나 ”그리스도 안에서 모든 사람이 살아나게 될” 것입니다(고린도전서 15:22, 새번역).

Thank You, saving God, for promising that in Christ all who die will be made alive again.

1 A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth.

2 It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart.

3 Frustration is better than laughter, because a sad face is good for the heart.

4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure.

5 It is better to heed the rebuke of a wise person than to listen to the song of fools.

6 Like the crackling of thorns under the pot, so is the laughter of fools. This too is meaningless.

7 Extortion turns a wise person into a fool, and a bribe corrupts the heart.

8 The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.

9 Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.

10 Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?” For it is not wise to ask such questions.

구원의 하나님, 그리스도 안에서 죽은 모든 자들이 다시 살아날 것을 약속해 주시니 감사합니다.

1 좋은 이름이 좋은 기름보다 낫고 죽는 날이 출생하는 날보다 나으며

2 초상집에 가는 것이 잔칫집에 가는 것보다 나으니 모든 사람의 끝이 이와 같이 됨이라 산 자는 이것을 그의 마음에 둘지어다

3 슬픔이 웃음보다 나음은 얼굴에 근심하는 것이 마음에 유익하기 때문이니라

4 지혜자의 마음은 초상집에 있으되 우매한 자의 마음은 혼인집에 있느니라

5 ○지혜로운 사람의 책망을 듣는 것이 우매한 자들의 노래를 듣는 것보다 나으니라

6 우매한 자들의 웃음 소리는 솥 밑에서 가시나무가 타는 소리 같으니 이것도 헛되니라

7 탐욕이 지혜자를 우매하게 하고 뇌물이 사람의 명철을 망하게 하느니라

8 ○일의 끝이 시작보다 낫고 참는 마음이 교만한 마음보다 나으니

9 급한 마음으로 노를 발하지 말라 노는 우매한 자들의 품에 머무름이니라

10 옛날이 오늘보다 나은 것이 어찜이냐 하지 말라 이렇게 묻는 것은 지혜가 아니니라
