[ Nehemiah 4:6 - 4:14 ] - hymn 357 By ourselves we will not be able to rebuild the wall Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome. [ NEHEMIAH 4:10, 14 esv ] Elise felt the panic rising. The book layout was due the next day, but the printer had rejected the photos. It could take days to sort it out. “Don’t worry,” said her husband, Sam. “Let’s ask God for help. Then we’ll work through the night. This software might help us fix the photos quickly.” As they prayed, Elise started to feel more assured. Just keep looking to God, she told herself. With this God-given peace of mind and Sam’s practical tip, she went to work—and completed the task in time. As she did so, Elise recalled the Israelites’ mammoth task of rebuilding their city wall (NEHEMIAH 4). As if it wasn’t difficult enough, enemies mocked them and conspired to sabotage their work. But Nehemiah encouraged them to keep looking to God. “By ourselves we will not be able to rebuild the wall,” Judah said, but Nehemiah replied, “Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome” (VV. 10, 14 ESV). Then he deployed the men to work on the wall and guard against attackers, with leaders behind them (V. 16). He also encouraged them, saying, “Our God will fight for us” (V. 20). Whenever we face overwhelming challenges, let’s keep look-ing to God for help and strength. We can pray for wisdom to find practical solutions, take the necessary steps, and trust in God for the outcome—whatever it might be. LESLIE KOH		[ 느헤미야 4:6 - 4:14 ] - 찬송가 357 장 우리가 성을 건축하지 못하리라 하고... 지극히 크시고 두려우신 주를 기억하고 [느헤미야 4:10, 14] 엘리스는 거의 공황상태에 빠졌습니다. 책의 편집본 마감일이 다음날 이었는데, 프린터가 사진들을 인식하지 못한 것입니다. 이것을 해결하려면 며칠이 걸릴 수도 있았습니다. “걱정하지마.”남편 샘이 말했습니다. “하나님께 도와달라고 기도하자. 그러고 밤새 작업하면 돼. 이 소프트웨어가 사진들을 빨리 수정하는 데 도움이 될 거야.” 남편과 함께 기도하고 나니까 엘리스의 마음이 평안해지기 시작했습니다. ‘계속 하나님만 바라보자.’ 스스로에게 말했습니다. 하나님께서 주신 마음의 평안과 남편의 실질적인 조언 덕분에 엘리스는 다시 작업에 착수했고, 제시간에 작업을 마칠 수 있었습니다. 이 과정에서 엘리스는 예루살렘 성벽 재건이라는 엄청난 과업을 수행하던 이스라엘 백성들을 떠올렸습니다(느헤미야 4장). 일 자체도 벅찼지만, 적들은 그들을 조롱하고 공사를 방해하려고 음모를 꾸몄습니다. 그러나 느헤미야는 이스라엘 백성들에게 계속해서 하나님을 바라보라고 독려했습니다. “우리 힘 으로는 이 성벽을 건축하지 못하리라”고 유다 백성들이 말했으나 느헤미야는 “지극히 크시고 두려우신 주를 기억하라”(10, 14절)고 말했습니다. 그리고 사람 들을 배치하여 성벽을 쌓으며 침략자들을 경계하도록 준비했고 지도자들이 그들 뒤에서 지원하도록 했습니다(16절). 또한 백성들에게 “우리 하나님이 우리를 위하여 싸우시리라”(20절)고 격려했습니다. 우리가 감당하기 어려운 도전에 직면할 때마다, 도움과 힘을 주시는 하나님을 바라봅시다. 우리는 실질적인 해결책을 찾을 수 있는 지혜를 구하며 기도하고, 필요한 조치를 취하며, 어떠한 결과가 나오든 하나님을 의지할 수 있습니다.

6 So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.

7 But when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites and the people of Ashdod heard that the repairs to Jerusalem's walls had gone ahead and that the gaps were being closed, they were very angry.

8 They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it.

9 But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.

10 Meanwhile, the people in Judah said, “The strength of the laborers is giving out, and there is so much rubble that we cannot rebuild the wall.”

11 Also our enemies said, “Before they know it or see us, we will be right there among them and will kill them and put an end to the work.”

12 Then the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten times over, “Wherever you turn, they will attack us.”

13 Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows.

14 After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don't be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”

6 이에 우리가 성을 건축하여 전부가 연결되고 높이가 절반에 이르렀으니 이는 백성이 마음 들여 일을 하였음이니라

7 ○산발랏과 도비야와 아라비아 사람들과 암몬 사람들과 아스돗 사람들이 예루살렘 성이 중수되어 그 허물어진 틈이 메꾸어져 간다 함을 듣고 심히 분노하여

8 다 함께 꾀하기를 예루살렘으로 가서 치고 그 곳을 요란하게 하자 하기로

9 우리가 우리 하나님께 기도하며 그들로 말미암아 파수꾼을 두어 주야로 방비하는데

10 유다 사람들은 이르기를 흙 무더기가 아직도 많거늘 짐을 나르는 자의 힘이 다 빠졌으니 우리가 성을 건축하지 못하리라 하고

11 우리의 원수들은 이르기를 그들이 알지 못하고 보지 못하는 사이에 우리가 그들 가운데 달려 들어가서 살륙하여 역사를 그치게 하리라 하고

12 그 원수들의 근처에 거주하는 유다 사람들도 그 각처에서 와서 열 번이나 우리에게 말하기를 너희가 우리에게로 와야 하리라 하기로

13 내가 성벽 뒤의 낮고 넓은 곳에 백성이 그들의 종족을 따라 칼과 창과 활을 가지고 서 있게 하고

14 내가 돌아본 후에 일어나서 귀족들과 민장들과 남은 백성에게 말하기를 너희는 그들을 두려워하지 말고 지극히 크시고 두려우신 주를 기억하고 너희 형제와 자녀와 아내와 집을 위하여 싸우라 하였느니라
