GREEN PASTRIES AND GOD’S PROVISION		푸른 패이스트리(Pastries)와 하나님의 공급
[ Psalms 23:1 - 23:6 ] - hymn 528 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures. [ PSALM 23:1-2 ] I was putting my grandson to bed during a sleepover. When his Bible bookmark opened to Psalm 23, he objected, “We already read this one.” After I suggested we might learn something new, he read aloud, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastries.” Green pas-tries?! I explained that the word was pastures, not pastries. Hours earlier, he’d stood before a bakery shelf, selecting treats. His interpretation came into focus: To him, a bakery conveyed a place of rest and enjoyment. Psalm 23 may be so familiar to us that we miss its deep offering. David, a king well acquainted with shepherding, describes God’s provision over a lifetime of things both idyllic (VV. 5-6) and challeng-ing (V. 4). He points out that our good God leads us to places where we can partake of His presence, be rejuvenated, and prepare for what will come. “Green pastures” (V. 1) and “quiet waters” (V. 2) are such dwellings for sheep, and we are God’s sheep (V. 1). My grandson’s innocent interpretation opened my eyes to the “green pastures” God provides for me—places of rest and enjoyment in everyday life where He restores me. A gold-hued sunset. A verdant field. A quiet corner. A bakery shelf of green pastries, wafting out delight. I’m so glad we read Psalm 23 again! ELISA MORGAN		[ 시편 23:1 - 23:6 ] - 찬송가 528 장 여호와는 나의 목자시니 내게 부족함이 없으리로다 그가 나를 푸른 풀밭에 누이시며 [시편 23:1-2] 손자가 우리 집에 와서 자던 날 침대에 눕혀 재울 때였습니다. 성경의 책갈피를 따라 시편 23편을 열자 아이는 “우리 이거 벌써 읽었어요”라며 다른 구절을 읽고 싶어했습니다. 우리가 여기서 새로운 것을 더 배우자고 하니까 손자는 소리를 내어 이렇게 읽었습니다. “여호와는 나의 목자시니 내게 부족함이 없으리로다. 그가 나를 푸른 패이스트리에 누이시며.” 푸른 패이스트리 (green pastries), 빵이라구?! 나는 그 단어가 빵을 뜻하는 패이스트리 (pastries)가 아니라 풀밭(패스처스, pastures)이라고 설명해 주었습니다. 몇 시간 전 아이는 빵집 진열대 앞에서 맛있는 것을 고르고 있었습니다. 그가 그렇게 말한 것이 이해가 되었습니다. 그에게 빵집은 휴식과 즐거움이 있는 곳을 의미했던 것입니다. 시편 23편은 우리에게 매우 익숙하다 보니 그 깊은 의미를 놓칠 수도 있습니다. 목동 일에 능숙했던 다윗 왕은 평생 동안 좋은 형편(5-6절)과 어려운 형편(4절) 속에서 하나님이 공급하신 것을 기록했습니다. 그는 선하신 하나님께서 동행하시며, 우리가 새 힘을 얻고, 다가올 일을 준비할 수 있는 곳으로 인도하신다고 말합니다. “푸른 풀밭”(1절)과 “쉴 만한 물가”(2절)는 양들에게 그러한 안식처이고 우리는 하나님의 양입니다(1절). 손자가 천진스럽게 해석하는 것을 보면서 나는 하나님께서 나에게 주시는 “푸른 풀밭들”, 곧 하나님이 나를 회복시키시는 일상생활 속의 휴식과 즐거움이 있는 장소들에 눈을 뜨게 되었습니다. 황금빛 노을. 푸르른 들판. 조용한 공간. 즐거움이 풍겨 나오는 푸른 빵들의 진열대. 시편 23편을 다시 읽게 되어 정말 기쁩니다!

4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

6 내 평생에 선하심과 인자하심이 반드시 나를 따르리니 내가 여호와의 집에 영원히 살리로다
