[ Genesis 25:1 - 25:18 ] (Hymn312)

1Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah.
2 She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.
3 Jokshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.
4 The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.
5 Abraham gave all he had to Isaac.
6 But to the sons of his concubines Abraham gave gifts, and while he was still living he sent them away from his son Isaac, eastward to the east country.
7 These are the days of the years of Abraham's life,175 years.
8 Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.
9 Isaac and Ishmael his sons buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, east of Mamre,
10 the field that Abraham purchased from the Hittites. There Abraham was buried, with Sarah his wife.
11 After the death of Abraham, God blessed Isaac his son. And Isaac settled at Beer-lahai-roi.
12 These are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's servant, bore to Abraham.
13 These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, named in the order of their birth: Nebaioth, the firstborn of Ishmael; and Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
14 Mishma, Dumah, Massa,
15 Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
16 These are the sons of Ishmael and these are their names, by their villages and by their encampments, twelve princes according to their tribes.
17 (These are the years of the life of Ishmael:137 years. He breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.)
18 They settled from Havilah to Shur, which is opposite Egypt in the direction of Assyria. He settled over against all his kinsmen.

1아브라함이 다시 아내를 맞아들였는데, 그의 이름은 그두라이다.
2 그와 아브라함 사이에서 시므란과 욕산과 므단과 미디안과 이스박과 수아가 태어났다.
3 욕산은 스바와 드단을 낳았다. 드단의 자손에게서 앗수르 사람과 르두시 사람과 르움미 사람이 갈라져 나왔다.
4 미디안의 아들은 에바와 에벨과 하녹과 아비다와 엘다아인데, 이들은 모두 그두라의 자손이다.
5 아브라함은 자기 재산을 모두 이삭에게 물려주고,
6 첩들에게서 얻은 아들들에게도 한 몫씩 나누어 주었는데, 그가 죽기 전에 첩들에게서 얻은 아들들을 동쪽 곧 동방 땅으로 보내어서, 자기 아들 이삭과 떨어져서 살게 하였다.
7 아브라함이 누린 햇수는 모두 백일흔다섯 해이다.
8 아브라함은 자기가 받은 목숨대로 다 살고, 아주 늙은 나이에 기운이 다하여서, 숨을 거두고 세상을 떠나, 조상들이 간 길로 갔다.
9 그의 아들 이삭과 이스마엘이 그를 막벨라 굴에 안장하였다. 그 굴은 마므레 근처, 헷 사람 소할의 아들 에브론의 밭에 있다.
10 그 밭은 아브라함이 헷 사람에게서 산 것이다. 바로 그 곳에서 아브라함은 그의 아내 사라와 합장되었다.
11 아브라함이 죽은 뒤에, 하나님은 아브라함의 아들 이삭에게 복을 주셨다. 그 때에 이삭은 브엘라해로이 근처에서 살고 있었다.
12 사라의 여종인 이집트 사람 하갈과 아브라함 사이에서 태어난 아들 이스마엘의 족보는 이러하다.
13 이스마엘의 아들들의 이름을 태어난 순서를 따라서 적으면, 다음과 같다. 이스마엘의 맏아들은 느바욧이다. 그 아래는 게달과 앗브엘과 밉삼과
14 미스마와 두마와 맛사와
15 하닷과 데마와 여두르와 나비스와 게드마가 있다.
16 이 열둘은 이스마엘이 낳은 아들의 이름이면서, 동시에 마을과 부락의 이름이며, 또한 이 사람들이 세운 열두 지파의 통치자들의 이름이기도 하다.
17 이스마엘은 모두 백서른일곱 해를 누린 뒤에, 기운이 다하여서 숨을 거두고, 세상을 떠나 조상에게로 돌아갔다.
18 그의 자손은 모두 하윌라로부터 수르 지방에 이르는 그 일대에 흩어져서 살았다. 수르는 이집트의 동북쪽 경계 부근 앗시리아로 가는 길에 있다. 그들은 모든 형제들과는 적대감을 가지고 살았다.

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding
Abraham had many children with Keturah, but only Isaac was to be his heir. Thus, he sent his other sons to the east with gifts. Ishmael, the son of Hagar, had twelve sons, who each led their own tribes as a part of the fulfilment of God’s promise. Abraham died at the age of 175 without seeing the fulfilment of God’s promise, but he was buried in the cave of Machpelah, showing that he trusted in God’s promise to the end (vv. 1-18).
아브라함은 그두라에게서 많은 자손을 얻었지만 상속자는 이삭으로 정하고, 다른 아들들에게는 재물을 주어 동쪽으로 떠나보냅니다. 하갈에게서 난 이스마엘도 열두 아들을 두어 지파를 이루며 번성했는데, 이는 하나님이 주신 약속의 성취였습니다. 아브라함은 약속을 받고도 그 성취를 보지 못한 채 175세에 죽었으나, 막벨라 굴에 장사됨으로 하나님의 약속을 끝까지 신뢰했음을 보여 줍니다(1-18절).
What lesson is God teaching me?
Vv. 7-10 We do not bear witness to God’s promise and pass it down through accomplishments but by demonstrating the faith that looks forward to its fulfilment. Abraham lived and died as though he had already received the blessing he had been promised. Let us pray that we may also live like Abraham in this world and conclude our days as people of God’s kingdom.
하나님의 약속을 증언하고 전수하는 방법은 성취를 보여 주는 게 아니라 성취를 바라보는 믿음을 보여 주는 것입니다. 아브라함은 약속된 복을 받은 것처럼 살았고, 약속하신 복을 받은 자로 죽었습니다. 우리 일생도 지금 이 땅에서 그 나라의 백성으로 살다가 그 나라의 백성으로 마감할 수 있기를 기도합시다.
Vv. 1-18 The Bible is not only a record of the chosen nor was it written just for them. God’s concern extends to the whole world, to all nations. The reason the chosen people were important was because they were to be instruments to bring salvation to the entire world. Just as Scripture draws attention to those who have been forgotten, we must strive to invite those who have been forgotten by society in our midst.
성경은 선택받은 자들만의 기록이 아니며, 그들만을 위한 기록도 아닙니다. 하나님의 관심은 온 땅, 모든 민족에게로 향합니다. 선택받은 이들이 중요한 것은 그들이 온 세상을 위한 구속의 도구이기 때문입니다. 성경에서 잊힌 사람들을 읽어 내야 하듯, 우리 사회의 관심에서 배제된 이들을 공동체의 주인공으로 초청하는 데 힘써야 합니다.

Lord, help me to notice and take care of the weak who have been marginalized by society.
