1But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. 2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. 3 You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil. 4 For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. 5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. 6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
1어둠 속에서 고통받던 백성에게서 어둠이 걷힐 날이 온다. 옛적에는 주님께서 스불론 땅과 납달리 땅으로 멸시를 받게 버려두셨으나, 그 뒤로는 주님께서 서쪽 지중해로부터 요단 강 동쪽 지역에 이르기까지, 그리고 이방 사람이 살고 있는 갈릴리 지역까지, 이 모든 지역을 영화롭게 하실 것이다. 2 어둠 속에서 헤매던 백성이 큰 빛을 보았고, 죽음의 그림자가 드리운 땅에 사는 사람들에게 빛이 비쳤다. 3 “하나님, 주님께서 그들에게 큰 기쁨을 주셨고, 그들을 행복하게 하셨습니다. 사람들이 곡식을 거둘 때 기뻐하듯이, 그들이 주님 앞에서 기뻐하며, 군인들이 전리품을 나눌 때 즐거워하듯이, 그들이 주님 앞에서 즐거워합니다. 4 주님께서 미디안을 치시던 날처럼, 그들을 내리누르던 멍에를 부수시고, 그들의 어깨를 짓누르던 통나무와 압제자의 몽둥이를 꺾으셨기 때문입니다. 5 침략자의 군화와 피 묻은 군복이 모두 땔감이 되어서, 불에 타 없어질 것이기 때문입니다.” 6 한 아기가 우리를 위해 태어났다. 우리가 한 아들을 모셨다. 그는 우리의 통치자가 될 것이다. 그의 이름은 ‘놀라우신 조언자’, ‘전능하신 하나님’, ‘영존하시는 아버지’, ‘평화의 왕’이라고 불릴 것이다. 7 그의 왕권은 점점 더 커지고 나라의 평화도 끝없이 이어질 것이다. 그가 다윗의 보좌와 왕국 위에 앉아서, 이제부터 영원히, 공평과 정의로 그 나라를 굳게 세울 것이다. 만군의 주님의 열심이 이것을 반드시 이루실 것이다.
