Summing up
[ Judges 2:1 - 2:10 ]

1Now the angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, 2 and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? 3 So now I say, I will not drive them out before you, but they shall become thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.” 4 As soon as the angel of the LORD spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept. 5 And they called the name of that place Bochim. And they sacrificed there to the LORD. 6 When Joshua dismissed the people, the people of Israel went each to his inheritance to take possession of the land. 7 And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work that the LORD had done for Israel. 8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of110 years. 9 And they buried him within the boundaries of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash. 10 And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD or the work that he had done for Israel.
1주님의 천사가 길갈에서 보김으로 올라와서 이렇게 말하였다. “나는 너희를 이집트에서 이끌어 내었고, 또 너희 조상에게 맹세한 이 땅으로 너희를 들어오게 하였다. 내가 너희에게 말하기를 ‘나는 너희와 맺은 언약을 영원히 깨뜨리지 않을 것이니, 2 너희는 이 땅의 주민과 언약을 맺지 말고, 그들의 단을 헐어야 한다’ 하였다. 그러나 너희는 나의 말에 순종하지 않았다. 너희가 어찌하여 이런 일을 하였느냐? 3 내가 다시 말하여 둔다. 나는 그들을 너희 앞에서 몰아내지 않겠다. 그들은 결국 너희를 찌르는 가시가 되고, 그들의 신들은 너희에게, 우상을 숭배할 수밖에 없도록 옭아매는 올무가 될 것이다.” 4 주님의 천사가 온 이스라엘 자손에게 이 말을 하였을 때에, 백성들은 큰소리로 울었다. 5 그래서 그들이 그 장소의 이름을 보김이라 부르고, 거기에서 주님께 제사를 드렸다. 6 여호수아가 모인 백성을 흩어 보낸 뒤에, 이스라엘 자손은 각각 자기가 유산으로 받은 땅으로 가서, 그 땅을 차지하였다. 7 온 백성은 여호수아가 살아 있는 동안 주님을 잘 섬겼다. 그들은 여호수아가 죽은 뒤에도, 주님께서 이스라엘에게 베푸신 큰 일을 모두 눈으로 직접 본 장로들이 살아 있는 동안에는 주님을 잘 섬겼다. 8 주님의 종인 눈의 아들 여호수아는 백열 살에 죽었다. 9 그리하여 그들은, 그가 유산으로 받은 땅의 경계선 안 에브라임 산간지방인 가아스 산 북쪽 딤낫헤레스에 그를 묻었다. 10 그리고 그 세대 사람들도 모두 죽어 조상들에게로 돌아갔다. 그들이 죽은 뒤에 새로운 세대가 일어났는데, 그들은 주님을 알지 못하고, 주님께서 이스라엘을 돌보신 일도 알지 못하였다.
