1Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the people of Israel were assembled with fasting and in sackcloth, and with earth on their heads. 2 And the Israelites separated themselves from all foreigners and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers. 3 And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God for a quarter of the day; for another quarter of it they made confession and worshiped the LORD their God. 4 On the stairs of the Levites stood Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani; and they cried with a loud voice to the LORD their God. 5 Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, “Stand up and bless the LORD your God from everlasting to everlasting. Blessed be your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise. 6 “You are the LORD, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you. 7 You are the LORD, the God who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans and gave him the name Abraham. 8 You found his heart faithful before you, and made with him the covenant to give to his offspring the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, and the Girgashite. And you have kept your promise, for you are righteous. 9 “And you saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt and heard their cry at the Red Sea, 10 and performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh and all his servants and all the people of his land, for you knew that they acted arrogantly against our fathers. And you made a name for yourself, as it is to this day. 11 And you divided the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on dry land, and you cast their pursuers into the depths, as a stone into mighty waters. 12 By a pillar of cloud you led them in the day, and by a pillar of fire in the night to light for them the way in which they should go. 13 You came down on Mount Sinai and spoke with them from heaven and gave them right rules and true laws, good statutes and commandments, 14 and you made known to them your holy Sabbath and commanded them commandments and statutes and a law by Moses your servant. 15 You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger and brought water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and you told them to go in to possess the land that you had sworn to give them. 16 “But they and our fathers acted presumptuously and stiffened their neck and did not obey your commandments. 17 They refused to obey and were not mindful of the wonders that you performed among them, but they stiffened their neck and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But you are a God ready to forgive, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and did not forsake them. 18 Even when they had made for themselves a golden calf and said, ‘This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,’ and had committed great blasphemies, 19 you in your great mercies did not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of cloud to lead them in the way did not depart from them by day, nor the pillar of fire by night to light for them the way by which they should go. 20 You gave your good Spirit to instruct them and did not withhold your manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst. 21 Forty years you sustained them in the wilderness, and they lacked nothing. Their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell. 22 “And you gave them kingdoms and peoples and allotted to them every corner. So they took possession of the land of Sihon king of Heshbon and the land of Og king of Bashan.
1그 달 이십사일에, 이스라엘 자손이 다 모여서 금식하면서, 굵은 베 옷을 입고, 먼지를 뒤집어썼다. 2 이스라엘 자손은 모든 이방 사람과 관계를 끊었다. 그들은 제자리에 선 채로 자신들의 허물과 조상의 죄를 자백하였다. 3 모두들 제자리에서 일어나서, 낮의 사분의 일은 주 하나님의 율법책을 읽고, 또 낮의 사분의 일은 자기들의 죄를 자백하고, 주 하나님께 경배하였다. 4 단 위에는 레위 사람인 예수아와 바니와 갓미엘과 스바냐와 분니와 세레뱌와 바니와 그나니가 올라서서, 주 하나님께 큰소리로 부르짖었다. 5 레위 사람인 예수아와 갓미엘과 바니와 하삽느야와 세레뱌와 호디야와 스바냐와 브다히야가 외쳤다. “모두 일어나서, 주 너희의 하나님을 찬양하여라.” 영원 전부터 영원까지, 주님의 영화로운 이름은 찬양을 받아 마땅합니다. 어떠한 찬양이나 송축으로도, 주님의 이름을 다 기릴 수가 없습니다. 6 주님만이 홀로 우리의 주님이십니다. 주님께서는 하늘과, 하늘 위의 하늘과, 거기에 딸린 별들을 지으셨습니다. 땅과 그 위에 있는 온갖 것, 바다와 그 안에 있는 온갖 것들을 지으셨습니다. 주님께서는 이 모든 것에게 생명을 주십니다. 하늘의 별들이 주님께 경배합니다. 7 주 하나님께서는, 아브람을 택하시어 바빌로니아의 우르에서 이끌어 내시고, 그의 이름을 아브라함이라고 고쳐서 부르셨습니다. 8 아브라함의 마음이 주님 앞에서 진실함을 아시고, 가나안 사람과 헷 사람과 아모리 사람과 브리스 사람과 여부스 사람과 기르가스 사람의 땅을 그 자손에게 주시겠다고, 그와 언약을 세우셨습니다. 주님께서는 의로우셔서, 말씀하신 것을 지키셨습니다. 9 주님께서는 우리 조상이 이집트에서 고난받는 것을 보시고, 홍해에서 부르짖을 때에 들어주셨습니다. 10 이집트 사람들이 우리 조상을 업신여기는 것을 아시고, 이적과 기사를 베푸셔서, 바로와 그의 모든 신하와 그 나라 온 백성을 치셨으며, 그 때에 떨치신 명성이 오늘까지 이릅니다. 11 조상 앞에서 바다를 가르시고, 그들이 바다 한가운데를 마른 땅처럼 지나가게 하셨지만, 뒤쫓는 자들은, 깊은 바다에 돌이 잠기듯이, 거센 물결에 잠기게 하셨습니다. 12 낮에는 구름기둥으로 그들을 이끌어 주시고, 밤에는 불기둥으로 그들이 가는 길을 밝히 비추어 주셨습니다. 13 몸소 시내 산에 내려오시며, 하늘에서 그들에게 말씀하셔서, 바른 규례와 참된 율법, 좋은 율례와 계명을 주셨습니다. 14 주님의 거룩한 안식일을 알려 주시고, 주님의 종 모세를 시키셔서 계명과 규정과 율법을 가르쳐 주셨습니다. 15 굶주릴까봐 하늘에서 먹거리를 내려 주시고, 목마를까봐 바위에서 물이 솟아나게 하셨습니다. 주님께서 손을 들어 맹세하며 주시겠다고 한 그 땅에 들어가서, 그 곳을 차지하라고 말씀하셨습니다. 16 그러나 우리 조상은 거만하여, 목이 뻣뻣하고 고집이 세어서, 주님의 명령을 지키지 않았습니다. 17 주님께 복종하기를 거부하고, 주님께서 보여 주신 그 놀라운 일들을 곧 잊었습니다. 뻣뻣한 목에 고집만 세어서, 종살이하던 이집트로 되돌아가려고, 반역자들은 우두머리를 세우기까지 하였습니다. 그러나 주님은 용서하시는 하나님, 은혜로우시며, 너그러우시며, 좀처럼 노여워하지 않으시며, 사랑이 많으셔서, 그들을 버리지 않으셨습니다. 18 더욱이, 우리 조상은, 금붙이를 녹여서 송아지 상을 만들고는 ‘우리를 이집트에서 이끌어 내신 우리의 하나님이다’ 하고 외치고, 주님을 크게 모독하였습니다. 19 그런데도 주님께서는 언제나 그들을 불쌍히 보셔서, 차마 그들을 광야에다가 내다 버리지 못하셨습니다. 낮에는 줄곧 구름기둥으로 그들을 이끌어 주시고, 밤에는 불기둥으로 그들이 가는 길을 밝히 비추어 주셨습니다. 20 선한 영을 주셔서, 그들을 슬기롭게 하셨습니다. 그들의 입에 만나가 끊이지 않게 하시며, 목말라 할 때에 물을 주셨습니다. 21 광야에서 사십 년 동안이나 돌보셔서, 그들이 아쉬운 것 없게 하셨습니다. 옷이 해어지지도 않았고, 발이 부르트지도 않았습니다. 22 여러 나라와 민족들을 우리 조상에게 굴복시키셔서, 우리 조상이 시혼 땅 곧 헤스본 왕의 땅과 바산 왕 옥의 땅을 차지하고, 그것을 나누어서 변방으로 삼았습니다.
