27Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen. And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly. 28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were147 years. 29 And when the time drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, put your hand under my thigh and promise to deal kindly and truly with me. Do not bury me in Egypt, 30 but let me lie with my fathers. Carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burying place.” He answered, “I will do as you have said.” 31 And he said, “Swear to me”; and he swore to him. Then Israel bowed himself upon the head of his bed. 1 After this, Joseph was told, “Behold, your father is ill.” So he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. 2 And it was told to Jacob, “Your son Joseph has come to you.” Then Israel summoned his strength and sat up in bed. 3 And Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me, 4 and said to me, ‘Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make of you a company of peoples and will give this land to your offspring after you for an everlasting possession.’ 5 And now your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh shall be mine, as Reuben and Simeon are. 6 And the children that you fathered after them shall be yours. They shall be called by the name of their brothers in their inheritance. 7 As for me, when I came from Paddan, to my sorrow Rachel died in the land of Canaan on the way, when there was still some distance to go to Ephrath, and I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).”
27이스라엘 자손은 이집트의 고센 땅에 자리를 잡았다. 거기에서 그들은 재산을 얻고, 생육하며 번성하였다. 28 야곱이 이집트 땅에서 열일곱 해를 살았으니, 그의 나이가 백마흔일곱 살이었다. 29 이스라엘은 죽을 날을 앞두고, 그의 아들 요셉을 불러 놓고 일렀다. “네가 이 아버지에게 효도를 할 생각이 있으면, 너의 손을 나의 다리 사이에 넣고, 네가 인애와 성심으로 나의 뜻을 받들겠다고 나에게 약속하여라. 나를 이집트에 묻지 말아라. 30 내가 눈을 감고, 조상들에게로 돌아가면, 나를 이집트에서 옮겨서, 조상들께서 누우신 그 곳에 나를 묻어다오.” 요셉이 대답하였다. “아버지 말씀대로 하겠습니다.” 31 야곱이 다짐하였다. “그러면 이제 나에게 맹세하여라.” 요셉이 아버지에게 맹세하니, 이스라엘이 침상 맡에 엎드려서, 하나님께 경배하였다. 48 :1이런 일이 있은 지 얼마 되지 않아서, 요셉은 아버지의 병환 소식을 들었다. 요셉은 두 아들 므낫세와 에브라임을 데리고, 아버지를 뵈러 갔다. 2 야곱 곧 이스라엘은 자기의 아들 요셉이 왔다는 말을 듣고서, 기력을 다하여 침상에서 일어나 앉았다. 3 야곱이 요셉에게 말하였다. “전능하신 하나님이 가나안 땅 루스에서 나에게 나타나셔서, 거기에서 나에게 복을 허락하시면서, 4 나에게 이르시기를 ‘내가 너에게 수많은 자손을 주고, 그 수가 불어나게 하겠다. 내가 너에게서 여러 백성이 나오게 하고, 이 땅을 너의 자손에게 주어서, 영원한 소유가 되게 하겠다’ 하셨다. 5 내가 너를 보려고 여기 이집트로 오기 전에 네가 이집트 땅에서 낳은 두 아이는, 내가 낳은 아들로 삼고 싶다. 르우벤과 시므온이 나의 아들이듯이, 에브라임과 므낫세도 나의 아들이다. 6 이 두 아이 다음에 낳은 자식들은 너의 아들이다. 이 두 아이는 형들과 함께 유산을 상속받게 할 것이다. 7 내가 밧단을 떠나서 고향으로 돌아올 때에, 슬프게도, 너의 어머니 라헬이 가나안 땅에 다 와서, 조금만 더 가면 에브랏에 이를 것인데, 그만 길에서 세상을 떠나고 말았다. 나는 너의 어머니를 에브랏 곧 베들레헴으로 가는 길 옆에 묻었다.”
