9Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin assembled at Jerusalem within the three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month. And all the people sat in the open square before the house of God, trembling because of this matter and because of the heavy rain. 10 And Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, “You have broken faith and married foreign women, and so increased the guilt of Israel. 11 Now then make confession to the LORD, the God of your fathers and do his will. Separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and from the foreign wives.” 12 Then all the assembly answered with a loud voice, “It is so; we must do as you have said. 13 But the people are many, and it is a time of heavy rain; we cannot stand in the open. Nor is this a task for one day or for two, for we have greatly transgressed in this matter. 14 Let our officials stand for the whole assembly. Let all in our cities who have taken foreign wives come at appointed times, and with them the elders and judges of every city, until the fierce wrath of our God over this matter is turned away from us.” 15 Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah opposed this, and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite supported them. 16 Then the returned exiles did so. Ezra the priest selected men, heads of fathers' houses, according to their fathers' houses, each of them designated by name. On the first day of the tenth month they sat down to examine the matter; 17 and by the first day of the first month they had come to the end of all the men who had married foreign women. 18 Now there were found some of the sons of the priests who had married foreign women: Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah, some of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers. 19 They pledged themselves to put away their wives, and their guilt offering was a ram of the flock for their guilt. 20 Of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah. 21 Of the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel, and Uzziah. 22 Of the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah. 23 Of the Levites: Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (that is, Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer. 24 Of the singers: Eliashib. Of the gatekeepers: Shallum, Telem, and Uri. 25 And of Israel: of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, Izziah, Malchijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Hashabiah, and Benaiah. 26 Of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremoth, and Elijah. 27 Of the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad, and Aziza. 28 Of the sons of Bebai were Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai. 29 Of the sons of Bani were Meshullam, Malluch, Adaiah, Jashub, Sheal, and Jeremoth. 30 Of the sons of Pahath-moab: Adna, Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, Binnui, and Manasseh. 31 Of the sons of Harim: Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon, 32 Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah. 33 Of the sons of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei. 34 Of the sons of Bani: Maadai, Amram, Uel, 35 Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi, 36 Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib, 37 Mattaniah, Mattenai, Jaasu. 38 Of the sons of Binnui: Shimei, 39 Shelemiah, Nathan, Adaiah, 40 Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai, 41 Azarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah, 42 Shallum, Amariah, and Joseph. 43 Of the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, Joel, and Benaiah. 44 All these had married foreign women, and some of the women had even borne children.
9사흘 안에 유다와 베냐민 사람들이 모두 예루살렘에 모였다. 그 때가 아홉째 달 이십일이다. 온 백성이 하나님의 성전 앞뜰에 모여 앉아서 떨고 있었다. 사태가 이러한 터에, 큰비까지 내리고 있었기 때문이다. 10 드디어, 에스라 제사장이 나서서, 그들에게 말하였다. “여러분은 이방 여자들과 결혼하였으므로, 배신자가 되었습니다. 그것 때문에, 이스라엘의 죄가 더욱 커졌습니다. 11 이제 주 여러분의 조상의 하나님께 죄를 자백하고, 그의 뜻을 따르십시오. 이 땅에 있는 이방 백성과 관계를 끊고, 여러분이 데리고 사는 이방인 아내들과도 인연을 끊어야 합니다.” 12 온 회중이 큰 목소리로 대답하였다. “옳으신 말씀입니다. 우리는 반드시 말씀하신 대로 하겠습니다. 13 그렇지만 여기에 모인 사람들의 수가 많고, 때가 장마철이므로, 이렇게 바깥에 서 있기가 어렵습니다. 더구나 이 일은 우리의 잘못이 너무나 커서, 하루 이틀에 처리될 문제가 아닙니다. 14 그러므로 대표를 뽑아서, 모든 회중의 일을 맡기는 것이 좋겠습니다. 마을마다 이방 여자와 결혼한 사람들에게는 날짜를 정하여 주어서, 그들이 자기 마을의 원로들과 재판장들과 함께 나오게 하고, 이 일 때문에 일어난 우리 하나님의 진노를 풀어 드리는 것이 좋겠습니다.” 15 오직, 아사헬의 아들 요나단과 디과의 아들 야스야만 이 의견에 반대하였으며, 므술람과 레위 사람 삽브대가 그들에게 동조하였을 뿐이다. 16 포로로 사로잡혀 갔다가 돌아온 백성들은, 많은 쪽의 의견을 따르기로 하였다. 에스라 제사장은 각 가문의 갈래마다 한 사람씩을 우두머리로 뽑아서, 그들에게 책임을 맡겼다. 이방 여자와 결혼한 사람들에 대한 조사는, 열째 달 초하루에 시작하여, 17 이듬 해 첫째 달 초하루에 끝났다. 18 제사장의 무리 가운데서 이방 여자와 결혼한 사람들은 다음과 같다. 요사닥의 아들 예수아 및 그 형제들의 자손 가운데서는 마아세야와 엘리에셀과 야립과 그달리야이다. 19 그들은 모두 손을 들어서, 아내를 내보내겠다고 서약하고, 지은 죄가 있으므로, 각자 숫양 한 마리씩을 잡아서 속죄제물로 바쳤다. 20 임멜의 자손 가운데서는 하나니와 스바댜요, 21 하림의 자손 가운데서는 마아세야와 엘리야와 스마야와 여히엘과 웃시야요, 22 바스훌의 자손 가운데서는 엘료에내와 마아세야와 이스마엘과 느다넬과 요사밧과 엘라사요, 23 레위 사람들 가운데서는 요사밧과 시므이와 글리다라고도 하는 글라야와 브다히야와 유다와 엘리에셀이요, 24 노래하는 사람들 가운데서는 엘리아십이요, 성전 문지기들 가운데서는 살룸과 델렘과 우리요, 25 이스라엘 일반인으로서, 바로스의 자손 가운데서는 라먀와 잇시야와 말기야와 미야민과 엘르아살과 말기야와 브나야요, 26 엘람의 자손 가운데서는 맛다니야와 스가랴와 여히엘과 압디와 여레못과 엘리야요, 27 삿두의 자손 가운데서는 엘료에내와 엘리아십과 맛다니야와 여레못과 사밧과 아시사요, 28 베배의 자손 가운데서는 여호하난과 하나냐와 삽배와 아들래요, 29 바니의 자손 가운데서는 므술람과 말룩과 아다야와 야숩과 스알과 여레못이요, 30 바핫모압의 자손 가운데서는 앗나와 글랄과 브나야와 마아세야와 맛다니야와 브살렐과 빈누이와 므낫세요, 31 하림의 자손 가운데서는 엘리에셀과 잇시야와 말기야와 스마야와 시므온과 32 베냐민과 말룩과 스마랴요, 33 하숨의 자손 가운데서는 맛드내와 맛닷다와 사밧과 엘리벨렛과 여레매와 므낫세와 시므이요, 34 바니의 자손 가운데서는 마아대와 아므람과 우엘과 35 브나야와 베드야와 글루히와 36 와냐와 므레못과 에랴십과 37 맛다니야와 맛드내와 야아수와 38 바니와 빈누이와 시므이와 39 셀레먀와 나단과 아다야와 40 막나드배와 사새와 사래와 41 아사렐과 셀레먀와 스마랴와 42 살룸과 아마랴와 요셉이요, 43 느보의 자손 가운데서는 여이엘과 맛디디야와 사밧과 스비내와 잇도와 요엘과 브나야이다. 44 이들은 모두 이방 여자와 결혼한 남자이다. 이방 여자 가운데는 자식을 낳은 사람들도 있었다.
