Summing up


[ Ezra 10:1 - 10:8 ] (Hymn272)

1While Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, a very great assembly of men, women, and children, gathered to him out of Israel, for the people wept bitterly.
2 And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, of the sons of Elam, addressed Ezra: “We have broken faith with our God and have married foreign women from the peoples of the land, but even now there is hope for Israel in spite of this.
3 Therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all these wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God, and let it be done according to the Law.
4 Arise, for it is your task, and we are with you; be strong and do it.”
5 Then Ezra arose and made the leading priests and Levites and all Israel take an oath that they would do as had been said. So they took the oath.
6 Then Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and went to the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib, where he spent the night, neither eating bread nor drinking water, for he was mourning over the faithlessness of the exiles.
7 And a proclamation was made throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the returned exiles that they should assemble at Jerusalem,
8 and that if anyone did not come within three days, by order of the officials and the elders all his property should be forfeited, and he himself banned from the congregation of the exiles.

1에스라가 하나님의 성전 앞에 엎드려 울면서 기도하며 죄를 자백하자, 이스라엘 사람도 남자, 여자, 어린아이 할 것 없이, 많은 무리가 에스라 주변에 모여서, 큰소리로 슬피 울었다.
2 그 때에 엘람의 자손 여히엘의 아들 스가냐가 에스라에게 말하였다. “우리가 주변에 있는 이 땅의 백성에게서 이방 여자를 데려와서 아내로 삼음으로써, 하나님께 죄를 지었지만, 아직도 이스라엘에 희망은 있습니다.
3 이제 우리는 하나님의 명령을 두려워하면서 받드는 분들의 권면과, 에스라 제사장님의 가르침을 따라서, 이방 여자들과 그들에게서 난 아이들을 다 보낼 것을 하나님 앞에서 언약하겠습니다. 율법대로 하겠습니다.
4 그러므로 이제 일어나십시오. 이 모든 일은 제사장님이 맡아서 하셔야 합니다. 우리가 제사장님을 도와 드리겠습니다. 용기 있게 밀고 나가십시오.”
5 이 말을 듣고, 에스라가 일어나서, 지도급 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 온 이스라엘 사람에게 그들이 말한 대로 하겠다고 맹세하라고 요구하니, 그들은 그대로 맹세하였다.
6 에스라는 하나님의 성전 앞에서 물러 나와, 엘리아십의 아들 여호하난의 방으로 들어가서, 포로로 잡혀 갔다가 돌아온 백성이 지은 죄 때문에, 밤이 새도록 밥도 먹지 않고, 물도 마시지 않으며, 슬피 울었다.
7 잡혀 갔다가 돌아온 백성은 모두 예루살렘으로 모이라는 명령이 예루살렘과 온 유다 땅에 내렸다.
8 사흘 안에 오지 않는 사람은, 지도자들과 원로들의 결정에 따라 재산을 빼앗고, 잡혀 갔다가 돌아온 백성의 모임에서 내쫓는다고 하니,

Thinking & Understanding
The exiles shared in Ezra's lament and repentance. Shecaniah proposed a concrete solution to the problem of sin: that the foreign wives and their children be sent away, declaring that there was still hope for Israel. The people agreed, and Ezra led them in fasting and prayer altogether. He proclaimed that all returning Jews were to gather in Jerusalem within three days, warning that anyone who did not comply would be excluded from the community (vv. 1-8).
에스라의 탄식과 회개는 공동체 전체로 확산됩니다. 스가냐는 죄 문제를 해결할 구체적인 방안으로 이방 아내와 자녀들을 내보내자고 제안하며 이스라엘에 여전히 희망이 있다고 말합니다. 백성도 이 일에 함께하겠다고 결단하고, 에스라는 금식 기도로 나아갑니다. 그는 3일 안에 모든 귀환 유대인이 예루살렘에 모일 것을 공포하고, 이에 불응하는 자는 공동체에서 제외될 것임을 단호히 경고합니다(1-8절).
What lesson is God teaching me?
Vv. 1-5 Heartfelt prayers offered with honest tears transform the community of believers. Ezra's prayer moved the hearts of the people. While biblical teachings are necessary in a faith community, prayer and living as a godly example often have an even deeper impact. Am I praying for my faith community and setting a Christ-like example within it?
눈물로 드리는 진심 어린 기도는 공동체를 변화시킵니다. 에스라의 기도는 백성의 마음을 움직였습니다. 말씀과 교훈도 필요하지만, 기도와 모범은 더욱 깊은 울림을 줍니다. 나는 공동체를 품고 기도하고 있습니까?

V. 2 It is never too late to return to God. Shecaniah declared that there was still hope, even after sin. The present moment is the most opportune time to repent before God. Do not delay repentance; turn back to him now.
하나님께 돌이키는 데 ‘늦은 때’는 없습니다. 스가냐는 이미 범죄했을지라도 소망이 있다고 말합니다. 지금이 순종하고 회개하기에 가장 빠르고도 적절한 때입니다. 미루지 말고 지금 결단하십시오.
Prayer
Dear God, help me never stop confessing my sins before you. Grant me the resolve to restore whatever sin has distorted and to walk in your truth.
