1Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the LORD! 2 And yet he is wise and brings disaster; he does not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers and against the helpers of those who work iniquity. 3 The Egyptians are man, and not God, and their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out his hand, the helper will stumble, and he who is helped will fall, and they will all perish together. 4 For thus the LORD said to me, “As a lion or a young lion growls over his prey, and when a band of shepherds is called out against him he is not terrified by their shouting or daunted at their noise, so the LORD of hosts will come down to fight on Mount Zion and on its hill. 5 Like birds hovering, so the LORD of hosts will protect Jerusalem; he will protect and deliver it; he will spare and rescue it.” 6 Turn to him from whom people have deeply revolted, O children of Israel. 7 For in that day everyone shall cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which your hands have sinfully made for you. 8 “And the Assyrian shall fall by a sword, not of man; and a sword, not of man, shall devour him; and he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be put to forced labor. 9 His rock shall pass away in terror, and his officers desert the standard in panic,” declares the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
1도움을 청하러 이집트로 내려가는 자들에게 재앙이 닥칠 것이다. 그들은 군마를 의지하고, 많은 병거를 믿고 기마병의 막강한 힘을 믿으면서, 이스라엘의 거룩하신 분은 바라보지도 않고, 주님께 구하지도 않는다. 2 그러나 주님께서는 지혜로우셔서, 재앙을 내리실 것이다. 이미 하신 말씀은 취소하지 않으신다. 주님께서 일어나셔서, 악을 일삼는 자의 집을 치시며, 악한 일을 돕는 자를 치실 것이다. 3 이집트 사람은 사람일 뿐이요, 하나님이 아니며, 그들의 군마 또한 고깃덩이일 뿐이요, 영이 아니다. 주님께서 손을 들고 치시면, 돕던 자가 넘어지고, 도움을 받던 자도 쓰러져서, 모두 함께 멸망하고 말 것이다. 4 주님께서 나에게 이런 말씀을 하셨다. “사자가 으르렁거릴 때에, 힘센 사자가 먹이를 잡고 으르렁거릴 때에, 목동들이 떼 지어 몰려와서 소리친다고 그 사자가 놀라느냐? 목동들이 몰려와서 고함친다고 그 사자가 먹이를 버리고 도망가느냐?” 그렇듯, 만군의 주님께서도 그렇게 시온 산과 언덕들을 보호하신다. 5 새가 날개를 펴고 둥지의 새끼를 보호하듯이, 만군의 주님께서 예루살렘을 보호하신다. 감싸 주고 건져 주며, 다치지 않게 뛰어넘어서, 그 도성을 살리신다. 6 이스라엘의 자손아, 너희가 그토록 거역하던 그분께로 돌이켜라. 7 너희 각 사람이 너희 손으로 직접 은 우상과 금 우상을 만들어 죄를 지었으나, 그 날이 오면, 그 우상을 다 내던져야 할 것이다. 8 “앗시리아가 칼에 쓰러지겠으나, 사람의 칼에 쓰러지는 것이 아니고, 칼에 멸망하겠으나, 인간의 칼에 멸망하는 것이 아니다. 그가 칼 앞에서 도망할 것이요, 그 장정들이 강제노동을 하는 신세가 될 것이다. 9 그의 왕은 두려워서 달아나고, 겁에 질린 그의 지휘관들은 부대기를 버리고 도망할 것이다.” 시온에 불을 가지고 계시며 예루살렘에 화덕을 가지고 계신 주님께서, 이렇게 말씀하셨다.
