To the choirmaster. Of David.

1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good.

2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.

3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.

4 Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the LORD?

5 There they are in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous.

6 You would shame the plans of the poor, but the LORD is his refuge.

7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

1어리석은 사람은 마음속으로 “하나님이 없다” 하는구나. 그들은 한결같이 썩어서 더러우니, 바른 일을 하는 사람이 아무도 없구나.

2 주님께서는 하늘에서 사람을 굽어보시면서, 지혜로운 사람이 있는지, 하나님을 찾는 사람이 있는지를, 살펴보신다.

3 너희 모두는 다른 길로 빗나가서 하나같이 썩었으니, 착한 일을 하는 사람이 하나도 없구나.

4 죄악을 행하는 자는 다 무지한 자냐? 그들이 밥 먹듯이 내 백성을 먹으면서, 나 주를 부르지 않는구나.

5 하나님이 의인의 편이시니, 행악자가 크게 두려워한다.

6 행악자는 가난한 사람의 계획을 늘 좌절시키지만, 주님은 가난한 사람을 보호하신다.

7 하나님, 시온에서 나오셔서, 이스라엘을 구원하여 주십시오! 주님께서 당신의 백성을 그들의 땅으로 되돌려 보내실 때에, 야곱은 기뻐하고, 이스라엘은 즐거워할 것이다.

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding
Foreign nations had invaded, and the righteous were being persecuted by the wicked. The poet saw that the reason for this was the foolishness of denying God. The Lord tried but could not find a single righteous person. The wicked exploited God’s people and rejected God, but this was foolishness that made them God’s enemies. The poet looked to the future day of God’s salvation and hoped in the rejoicing of God’s people on that day.
시인은 악인이 의인을 박해하고 이방 나라가 침탈하는 현실 속에서, 그 근원이 하나님을 부정하는 어리석음임을 봅니다. 하나님은 사람들 가운데서 의로운 자를 찾으시지만 한 사람도 없습니다. 악인은 하나님의 백성을 착취하며 하나님을 거부하지만, 이는 결국 하나님을 적으로 돌리는 어리석음입니다. 시인은 하나님이 구원하실 날을 바라보며, 그날에 하나님의 백성이 기쁨을 누릴 것을 소망합니다.

Who is God?
Vv. 5-6 God stands on the side of the righteous. The wicked exploited God’s people, eating them up as if they were eating bread, but this situation would be reversed because God would arise as the refuge of the poor. When those who walk on the righteous path, hold on to God, they can gain the strength to follow the Lord’s Word.
의인의 편에 서시는 분입니다. 악인들은 마치 먹거리처럼 하나님의 백성을 착취하지만 이제 상황이 역전될 것입니다. 하나님이 가난한 이들의 피난처가 되기 위해 일어서실 것이기 때문입니다. 의의 길을 걷는 이들의 피난처를 자처하시는 하나님을 붙들 때, 주의 말씀을 따를 힘을 얻을 것입니다.

What lesson is God teaching me?

VV. 1,4 The foolish think ‘there is no God’. They are not fools in the sense of being stupid and talking nonsense. Rather, they make decisions and take action based on a wrongful premise. In contrast, those who lack worldly knowledge and are not cunning in worldly matters, but know God, carry out good deeds in their daily lives and are acknowledged by God as wise.
어리석은 자는 ‘하나님이 없다’고 생각합니다. 그들의 ‘어리석음’은 멍청하고 실없음을 의미하지 않습니다. 오히려 그들이 잘못된 전제에서 결정하며 행동한다는 뜻입니다. 반면 지식이 부족하고 처세에 밝지 못해도 하나님을 아는 이들은 일상의 삶에서 선을 실천합니다. 하나님은 그들이 지혜로운 자들이라고 인정하십니다.

Lord, give me the wisdom to serve you in my heart and live acknowledging you.
