1Then Darius the king made a decree, and search was made in Babylonia, in the house of the archives where the documents were stored. 2 And in Ecbatana, the citadel that is in the province of Media, a scroll was found on which this was written: “A record. 3 In the first year of Cyrus the king, Cyrus the king issued a decree: Concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, let the house be rebuilt, the place where sacrifices were offered, and let its foundations be retained. Its height shall be sixty cubits and its breadth sixty cubits, 4 with three layers of great stones and one layer of timber. Let the cost be paid from the royal treasury. 5 And also let the gold and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that is in Jerusalem and brought to Babylon, be restored and brought back to the temple that is in Jerusalem, each to its place. You shall put them in the house of God.” 6 “Now therefore, Tattenai, governor of the province Beyond the River, Shethar-bozenai, and your associates the governors who are in the province Beyond the River, keep away. 7 Let the work on this house of God alone. Let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its site. 8 Moreover, I make a decree regarding what you shall do for these elders of the Jews for the rebuilding of this house of God. The cost is to be paid to these men in full and without delay from the royal revenue, the tribute of the province from Beyond the River. 9 And whatever is needed—bulls, rams, or sheep for burnt offerings to the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, or oil, as the priests at Jerusalem require—let that be given to them day by day without fail, 10 that they may offer pleasing sacrifices to the God of heaven and pray for the life of the king and his sons. 11 Also I make a decree that if anyone alters this edict, a beam shall be pulled out of his house, and he shall be impaled on it, and his house shall be made a dunghill. 12 May the God who has caused his name to dwell there overthrow any king or people who shall put out a hand to alter this, or to destroy this house of God that is in Jerusalem. I Darius make a decree; let it be done with all diligence.”
1이에 다리우스 왕이 명령을 내려, 바빌론에서 옛 귀중본들을 두는 서고들을 조사하도록 하였다. 2 메대 지방 악메다 궁에서 두루마리가 하나 발견되었는데, 거기에는 다음과 같이 적혀 있다. 3 “고레스 왕 일년에, 왕께서 예루살렘에 있는 성전에 관하여 칙령을 내리시다. 희생제사를 드리던 바로 그 곳에 성전을 다시 세워라. 기초를 튼튼히 다지고, 성전의 높이와 너비는 각각 육십 자가 되게 하고, 4 벽은 돌 세 겹에 나무 한 겹씩 쌓아라. 비용은 국고에서 대주어라. 5 느부갓네살이 예루살렘에 있는 성전에서 꺼내어서 바빌론으로 가지고 온 성전의 금그릇과 은그릇을 돌려보내어, 예루살렘 성전으로 옮기게 하고, 성전 안 본래 있던 자리에 두도록 하여라.” 6 이제 유프라테스 강 서쪽 지방의 닷드내 총독과 스달보스내와 경의 동료 관리들과 유프라테스 강 서쪽 지방에 있는 관리들은, 건축 공사 지역에 접근하지 않도록 하여라. 7 성전 짓는 일을 막지 말고, 유다의 총독과 원로들이 자기들의 성전을 옛 터에 짓도록 그대로 두어라. 8 내가 이제 지시한다. 경들은 성전을 짓는 유다의 원로들을 도와라. 성전 공사에 드는 비용은 국고에서 댈 터이니, 유프라테스 강 서쪽 지방에서 거둔 세금에서 그 비용을 어김없이 주어서, 일이 중단되지 않게 하여라. 9 예루살렘의 제사장들이 하늘의 하나님께 번제를 드리는 데 필요하다고 하는 것들은 무엇이든지 내주어라. 수송아지든지 숫양이든지 어린 양이든지, 또는 밀이든지 소금이든지 포도주든지 기름이든지, 그들이 요구하는 대로 어김없이 날마다 주도록 하여라. 10 그래서 그들이, 하늘의 하나님이 기뻐하시는 희생제사를 드리게 하고, 왕과 왕자들이 잘 살 수 있도록 기도하게 하여라. 11 나는 또 다음과 같이 지시한다. 내가 내린 이 칙령을 고치는 자는, 그의 집에서 들보를 뽑아서 내다 세우고, 거기에 그를 매달아라. 그 집은 이에 대한 벌로 거름더미를 만들어라. 12 어떤 왕이나 어떤 민족이 나의 칙령을 거역하여, 이것을 고치거나 예루살렘 성전을 파괴하면, 거기에 이름을 두신 하나님이 그들을 없애 버릴 것이다. 이것은 나 다리우스의 명령이니, 경들은 지체없이 실시하여라.
