22The house of Joseph also went up against Bethel, and the LORD was with them. 23 And the house of Joseph scouted out Bethel. (Now the name of the city was formerly Luz.) 24 And the spies saw a man coming out of the city, and they said to him, “Please show us the way into the city, and we will deal kindly with you.” 25 And he showed them the way into the city. And they struck the city with the edge of the sword, but they let the man and all his family go. 26 And the man went to the land of the Hittites and built a city and called its name Luz. That is its name to this day. 27 Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and its villages, or Taanach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages, for the Canaanites persisted in dwelling in that land. 28 When Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but did not drive them out completely. 29 And Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them. 30 Zebulun did not drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, or the inhabitants of Nahalol, so the Canaanites lived among them, but became subject to forced labor. 31 Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, or the inhabitants of Sidon or of Ahlab or of Achzib or of Helbah or of Aphik or of Rehob, 32 so the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, for they did not drive them out. 33 Naphtali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, or the inhabitants of Beth-anath, so they lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land. Nevertheless, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became subject to forced labor for them. 34 The Amorites pressed the people of Dan back into the hill country, for they did not allow them to come down to the plain. 35 The Amorites persisted in dwelling in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, but the hand of the house of Joseph rested heavily on them, and they became subject to forced labor. 36 And the border of the Amorites ran from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upward.
22요셉의 집안 역시 베델을 치러 올라갔다. 주님께서 그들과 함께 계셨다. 23 요셉 가문이 베델을 정찰하였는데, 그 성읍 이름이 전에는 루스였다. 24 정찰병들이 그 성읍에서 나오는 한 사람을 붙들고 말하였다. “성읍으로 들어가는 길이 어디인지 알려 주십시오. 은혜는 잊지 않겠습니다.” 25 그 사람이 정찰병들에게 성읍으로 들어가는 길을 일러주니, 그들은 그리로 가서 그 성읍을 칼로 무찔렀다. 그러나 그 남자와 그의 가족은 모두 살려 보냈다. 26 그 사람이 헷 사람들의 땅으로 가서 한 성읍을 세우고, 그 이름을 루스라 하였는데, 오늘날까지도 그 이름으로 불린다. 27 므낫세 지파가 벳산과 그 주변 마을들과, 다아낙과 그 주변 마을들과, 돌과 그 주변 마을들과, 이블르암과 그 주변 마을들과, 므깃도와 그 주변 마을들에 사는 주민을 몰아내지 못하였으므로, 가나안 사람들은 그 땅에서 살기로 마음을 굳혔다. 28 그런데 이스라엘 백성은 강성해진 다음에도 가나안 사람을 모조리 몰아내지 않고, 그들을 부역꾼으로 삼았다. 29 에브라임 지파가 게셀에 사는 가나안 사람을 몰아내지 못하였으므로, 가나안 사람이 아직도 게셀에서 그들 가운데 섞여 살고 있다. 30 스불론 지파가 기드론의 주민과 나할롤의 주민을 몰아내지 못하였으므로, 가나안 사람들이 그들 가운데 살면서 부역꾼이 되었다. 31 아셀 지파는 악고의 주민과 시돈의 주민과 알랍과 악십과 헬바와 아벡과 르홉의 주민을 몰아내지 못하였다. 32 아셀 지파가 그 땅의 주민인 가나안 사람과 섞여 산 까닭은, 그들을 쫓아내지 못하였기 때문이다. 33 납달리 지파는 벳세메스 주민과 벳아낫 주민을 몰아내지 못하고, 그 땅의 주민인 가나안 사람과 섞여 살면서, 벳세메스와 벳아낫 주민을 부역꾼으로 삼았다. 34 아모리 사람은 단 지파 자손을 힘으로 산간지방에 몰아넣어, 낮은 지대로 내려오지 못하게 하였다. 35 그리고 아모리 사람은 헤레스 산과 아얄론과 사알빔에 살기로 마음을 굳혔으나, 요셉 가문이 강성하여지니, 그들은 요셉 가문의 부역꾼이 되었다. 36 아모리 사람의 경계선은 아그랍빔 비탈에 있는 바위에서부터 그 위쪽이다.
