[ 1 Corinthians 13:1 - 13:13 ] (Hymn299)

1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant
5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;
6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.
9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.
12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

1내가 사람의 모든 말과 천사의 말을 할 수 있을지라도, 내게 사랑이 없으면, 울리는 징이나 요란한 꽹과리가 될 뿐입니다.
2 내가 예언하는 능력을 가지고 있을지라도, 또 모든 비밀과 모든 지식을 가지고 있을지라도, 또 산을 옮길 만한 모든 믿음을 가지고 있을지라도, 사랑이 없으면, 아무것도 아닙니다.
3 내가 내 모든 소유를 나누어줄지라도, 내가 자랑삼아 내 몸을 넘겨줄지라도, 사랑이 없으면, 내게는 아무런 이로움이 없습니다.
4 사랑은 오래 참고, 친절합니다. 사랑은 시기하지 않으며, 뽐내지 않으며, 교만하지 않습니다.
5 사랑은 무례하지 않으며, 자기의 이익을 구하지 않으며, 성을 내지 않으며, 원한을 품지 않습니다.
6 사랑은 불의를 기뻐하지 않으며, 진리와 함께 기뻐합니다.
7 사랑은 모든 것을 덮어 주며, 모든 것을 믿으며, 모든 것을 바라며, 모든 것을 견딥니다.
8 사랑은 없어지지 않습니다. 그러나 예언도 사라지고, 방언도 그치고, 지식도 사라집니다.
9 우리는 부분적으로 알고, 부분적으로 예언합니다.
10 그러나 온전한 것이 올 때에는, 부분적인 것은 사라집니다.
11 내가 어릴 때에는, 말하는 것이 어린아이와 같고, 깨닫는 것이 어린아이와 같고, 생각하는 것이 어린아이와 같았습니다. 그러나 어른이 되어서는, 어린아이의 일을 버렸습니다.
12 지금은 우리가 거울로 영상을 보듯이 희미하게 보지마는, 그 때에는 얼굴과 얼굴을 마주하여 볼 것입니다. 지금은 내가 부분밖에 알지 못하지마는, 그 때에는 하나님께서 나를 아신 것과 같이, 내가 온전히 알게 될 것입니다.
13 그러므로 믿음, 소망, 사랑, 이 세 가지는 항상 있을 것인데, 그 가운데서 으뜸은 사랑입니다.

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding
Paul said that love was the best way and that it could not be compared to any gift. The gift of tongues, prophecy, knowledge, and faith, and even sacrifice and devotion, would not benefit the believers if they did not have love (vv. 1-3). Love meant building up others first, and the competition, discrimination and division in the Corinthian church was rooted in their lack of love (vv. 4-7). When the time comes, all the gifts would pass away, but love was is eternal and would last to the very end, even after faith and hope was are fulfilled (vv. 8-13).
바울은 어떤 은사와도 비교할 수 없는 가장 좋은 길이 사랑이라고 말합니다. 방언과 예언, 지식과 믿음이 있어도, 심지어 큰 희생과 헌신이 있어도 사랑이 없으면 자신에게는 아무 유익이 없습니다(1-3절). 사랑은 자신보다 이웃을 먼저 세우는 태도이며, 고린도 교회의 경쟁과 차별, 분열은 사랑의 부재에서 비롯된 것이었습니다(4-7절). 장차 온전한 때가 오면 은사는 사라지지만 사랑은 영원하며, 믿음과 소망이 성취된 이후에도 사랑만은 끝까지 남을 것입니다(8-13절).

What lesson is God teaching me?
VV. 1-3, 8, 13 Love is the crux of the life of a Christian. If we have love, we are rich even if we lack other things, but without love, we have nothing even if we have an abundance of other things. Love makes us use our gifts according to their purpose, and the love we share is the only thing that will last eternally when the time comes.
사랑이 그리스도인 삶의 정수입니다. 사랑이 있으면 다른 것이 부족해도 풍성하지만, 사랑이 없으면 다른 것이 넉넉해도 아무것도 없는 것과 같습니다. 은사를 은사답게 발휘하게 하는 것도 사랑이고, 세상이 온전해지면 영원히 남는 것도 내가 나눈 사랑뿐입니다.

VV. 4-7 Love serves others. Love means accepting others’ shortcomings, praising their excellence, trying to understand their feelings, rejoicing in seeing them live by the truth, believing and hoping they can change, covering up their flaws, and enduring others’ wrongdoings. We can love like this because Jesus loved us like this first.
사랑은 상대를 위하는 마음입니다. 상대의 부족함을 용납하고, 상대의 뛰어남을 칭찬하고, 상대의 감정을 헤아려 주고, 상대가 진리로 살아가는 것을 기뻐하고, 상대가 변화될 것을 믿고 소망하며 허물을 덮어 주고, 상대의 잘못을 참아 주는 것이 사랑입니다. 예수님이 먼저 이 사랑을 내게 베푸셨기에 나도 이렇게 사랑할 수 있습니다.
