[ 1 Corinthians 1:10 - 1:17 ] (Hymn455)

10I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.
11 For it has been reported to me by Chloe's people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers.
12 What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.”
13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,
15 so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name.
16 (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.)
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

10그런데, 형제자매 여러분, 나는 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 여러분에게 권면합니다. 여러분은 모두 같은 말을 하며, 여러분 가운데 분열이 없도록 하며, 같은 마음과 같은 생각으로 뭉치십시오.
11 나의 형제자매 여러분, 글로에의 집 사람들이 여러분의 소식을 전해 주어서 나는 여러분 가운데에 분쟁이 있다는 것을 알게 되었습니다.
12 다름이 아니라, 여러분은 저마다 말하기를 “나는 바울 편이다”, “나는 아볼로 편이다”, “나는 게바 편이다”, “나는 그리스도 편이다” 한다고 합니다.
13 그리스도께서 갈라지셨습니까? 바울이 여러분을 위하여 십자가에 달리기라도 했습니까? 또는, 여러분이 바울의 이름으로 세례를 받았습니까?
14 내가 여러분 가운데에서 그리스보와 가이오 밖에는, 아무에게도 세례를 준 일이 없음을 하나님께 감사드립니다.
15 그러므로, 아무도 나의 이름으로 세례를 받았다고 말하지 못할 것입니다.
16 내가 스데바나 가족에게도 세례를 주었습니다마는, 그 밖에는 다른 누구에게 세례를 주었는지 나는 모릅니다.
17 그리스도께서는 세례를 주라고 나를 보내신 것이 아니라, 복음을 전하라고 보내셨습니다. 복음을 전하되, 말의 지혜로 하지 않게 하셨습니다. 그것은 그리스도의 십자가가 헛되이 되지 않게 하시려는 것입니다.

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding
Paul heard that there were divisions in the Corinthian church and urged them to be united in the same mind and the same judgement. The believers were quarrelling about who to follow among figures such as Paul and Apollos (vv. 10-12). However, Christ could not be divided, and the power of the crucifixion and baptism did not belong to any human being but Jesus Christ. Paul urged the believers to follow only Christ, emphasising that salvation could only be delivered by Jesus, who was crucified, and not by any apostle (vv. 13-17).
바울은 고린도 교회 안에 분쟁이 있다는 소식을 듣고, 같은 생각과 마음으로 연합하라고 권면합니다. 성도들은 바울과 아볼로 등 사람을 따라 편이 갈려 경쟁하고 있었습니다(10-12절). 그러나 그리스도는 나뉠 수 없으며, 십자가와 세례는 사람에게 속한 것이 아니라 오직 그리스도께 속해 있습니다. 바울은 구원의 능력이 사역자가 아닌 십자가에 못 박히신 예수님께 있음을 강조하며, 성도가 오직 그리스도를 따르도록 권면합니다(13-17절).

What lesson is God teaching me?
VV. 10, 12-13 If we reject people and cause division to promote those we personally favour, we abandon and divide Christ. Christians are believers whose foundation is in Christ and seek Christ. Since Christ is one person, the church of Christ cannot be divided.
자기가 선호하는 인물을 추종하며 다른 사람들을 배제하고 분열을 일으키는 것은 사실상 그리스도를 버리고 가르는 것입니다. 그리스도인은 그리스도께 근간을 두고 그리스도를 추구하는 사람들입니다. 그리스도가 한 분이시기에 그리스도의 교회가 분열되어서는 안 됩니다.

VV. 13-17 We must use the spiritual authority and the responsibilities God has given us to reveal God’s glory. Paul kept himself fully concealed behind Jesus to avoid exerting more power over the believers than he had been permitted. It is foolish for believers to compare their positions and fight over ranking. We must work together by faithfully carrying out the roles we have each been called to perform.
하나님이 주신 영적 권위와 책임은 주님의 영광을 드러내는 데 사용해야 합니다. 바울은 자신에게 허락된 권세 이상을 성도에게 주장하지 않으려고 철저히 예수님 뒤에 숨었습니다. 서로의 역할을 비교하며 우위를 다투는 일은 어리석은 일입니다. 각자 부름 받은 자기 역할을 잘 감당하고 서로 협력해야 합니다.

Prayer
Lord, help me to boast only of the gospel of the cross and follow only Jesus Christ.
