15When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “It may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil that we did to him.” 16 So they sent a message to Joseph, saying, “Your father gave this command before he died: 17 ‘Say to Joseph, “Please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin, because they did evil to you.”’ And now, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18 His brothers also came and fell down before him and said, “Behold, we are your servants.” 19 But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? 20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. 21 So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them. 22 So Joseph remained in Egypt, he and his father's house. Joseph lived110 years. 23 And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation. The children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were counted as Joseph's own. 24 And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will visit you and bring you up out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” 25 Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.” 26 So Joseph died, being110 years old. They embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
15요셉의 형제들은 아버지를 여의고 나서, 요셉이 자기들을 미워하여, 그들에게서 당한 온갖 억울함을 앙갚음하면 어찌하나 하는 생각이 들어서, 16 요셉에게 전갈을 보냈다. “아버지께서 돌아가시기 전에 남기신 유언이 있습니다. 17 아우님에게 전하라고 하시면서 ‘너의 형들이 너에게 몹쓸 일을 저질렀지만, 이제 이 아버지는 네가 형들의 허물과 죄를 용서하여 주기를 바란다’ 하셨습니다. 그러니 아우님은, 우리 아버지께서 섬기신 그 하나님의 종들인 우리가 지은 죄를 용서하여 주시기 바랍니다.” 요셉은 이 말을 전해 듣고서 울었다. 18 곧 이어서 요셉의 형들이 직접 와서, 요셉 앞에 엎드려서 말하였다. “우리는 아우님의 종입니다.” 19 요셉이 그들에게 말하였다. “두려워하지 마십시오. 내가 하나님을 대신하기라도 하겠습니까? 20 형님들은 나를 해치려고 하였지만, 하나님은 오히려 그것을 선하게 바꾸셔서, 오늘과 같이 수많은 사람의 생명을 구원하셨습니다. 21 그러니 형님들은 두려워하지 마십시오. 내가 형님들을 모시고, 형님들의 자식들을 돌보겠습니다.” 이렇게 요셉은 그들을 간곡한 말로 위로하였다. 22 요셉이 아버지의 집안과 함께 이집트에 머물렀다. 요셉은 백 년 하고도 십 년을 더 살면서, 23 에브라임의 자손 삼 대를 보았고, 므낫세의 아들 마길에게서 태어난 아이들까지도 요셉이 자기의 자식으로 길렀다. 24 요셉이 자기 친족들에게 말하였다. “나는 곧 죽는다. 그러나 하나님께서 반드시 너희를 돌보시고, 너희를 이 땅에서 인도하여 내셔서, 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 맹세하신 땅에 이르게 하실 것이다.” 25 요셉은 이스라엘 자손에게 맹세를 시키면서 일렀다. “하나님께서 반드시 너희를 돌보실 날이 온다. 그 때에 너희는 나의 뼈를 이곳에서 옮겨서, 그리로 가지고 가야 한다.” 26 요셉이 백열 살에 세상을 떠나니, 사람들은 그의 시신에 방부제 향 재료를 넣은 다음에, 이집트에서 그를 입관하였다.
