Faith in Action		행함이 있는 믿음
[ James 2:14 - 2:26 ] - hymn 449 Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. James 2:18 As a friend drove to the grocery store, she noticed a woman walking along the side of the road and felt she should turn the car around and offer her a ride. When she did, she was saddened to hear that the woman didn¡¯t have money for the bus so was walking home many miles in the hot and humid weather. Not only was she making the long journey home, but she had also walked several hours that morning to arrive at work by 4 am. By offering a ride, my friend put into practice in a modern setting James¡¯s instruction for Christians to live out their faith with their deeds: ¡°Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead¡±(v. 17). He was concerned that the church take care of the widows and the orphans(James 1:27), and he also wanted them to rely not on empty words but to act on their faith with deeds of love. We are saved by faith, not works, but we live out our faith by loving others and caring for their needs. May we, like my friend who offered the ride, keep our eyes open for those who might need our help as we walk together in this journey of life. Amy Boucher Pye		[ 야고보서 2:14 - 2:26 ] - 찬송가 449 장 행함이 없는 네 믿음을 내게 보이라 나는 행함으로 내 믿음을 네게 보이리라 야고보서 2:18 친구가 장을 보기 위해 운전해 가던 중, 길가를 따라 걸어가는 한 여인을 보고는 차를 세워 태워줘야겠다고 생각했습니다. 친구는 차에 탄 그 여인으로부터 차비가 없어서 이렇게 무덥고 습한 날씨에 몇 킬로미터를 걸어서 집으로 가고 있었다는 이야기를 듣고는 마음이 슬펐습니다. 그 여인은 이렇게 먼 거리를 걸어서 집에 가고 있었을 뿐 아니라, 그날 아침에도 새벽 4시까지 직장에 가느라 몇 시간을 걸었던 것입니다. 내 친구는 오늘의 상황에서 차를 태워주는 것으로 “행함이 없는 믿음은 그 자체가 죽은 것이라”(17절)라고 하며 행함으로 믿음을 보이라고 한 야고보의 교훈을 실천했습니다. 야고보는 교회가 과부와 고아를 돌보는 일에 관심을 가지며(약 1:27), 또한 교인들이 빈 말이 아니라 사랑의 행실로 믿음을 실행할 것을 원했습니다. 우리는 행함이 아니라 믿음으로 구원 받습니다. 그러나 다른 사람을 사랑하며 그들의 필요를 채워줄 때 우리가 믿음의 삶을 사는 것입니다. 차를 태워준 내 친구처럼, 우리 모두 이 인생 여정을 함께 걸어가면서 우리의 도움이 필요한 사람들을 향하여 우리의 눈이 열려져 있기를 바랍니다.

• Lord Jesus Christ, You did the ultimate deed by dying on the cross for me. May I never forget the sacrifice that gives me life.

We live out our faith through our good deeds.

14. What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?

15. Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.

16. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?

17. In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

18. But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

19. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that -- and shudder.

20. You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?

21. Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?

22. You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.

23. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend.

24. You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.

25. In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?

26. As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

• 주 예수님, 주님은 저를 위하여 십자가에서 죽으심으로 가장 귀한 일을 행하셨습니다. 저에게 생명을 주신 그 희생을 결코 잊지 않게 하소서.

우리는 우리의 선행을 통하여 믿음의 삶을 살아간다.

14. 내 형제들아 만일 사람이 믿음이 있노라 하고 행함이 없으면 무슨 유익이 있으리요 그 믿음이 능히 자기를 구원하겠느냐

15. 만일 형제나 자매가 헐벗고 일용할 양식이 없는데

16. 너희 중에 누구든지 그에게 이르되 평안히 가라, 덥게 하라, 배부르게 하라 하며 그 몸에 쓸 것을 주지 아니하면 무슨 유익이 있으리요

17. 이와 같이 행함이 없는 믿음은 그 자체가 죽은 것이라

18. 어떤 사람은 말하기를 너는 믿음이 있고 나는 행함이 있으니 행함이 없는 네 믿음을 내게 보이라 나는 행함으로 내 믿음을 네게 보이리라 하리라

19. 네가 하나님은 한 분이신 줄을 믿느냐 잘하는도다 귀신들도 믿고 떠느니라

20. 아아 허탄한 사람아 행함이 없는 믿음이 헛것인 줄을 알고자 하느냐

21. 우리 조상 아브라함이 그 아들 이삭을 제단에 바칠 때에 행함으로 의롭다 하심을 받은 것이 아니냐

22. 네가 보거니와 믿음이 그의 행함과 함께 일하고 행함으로 믿음이 온전하게 되었느니라

23. 이에 성경에 이른 바 아브라함이 하나님을 믿으니 이것을 의로 여기셨다는 말씀이 이루어졌고 그는 하나님의 벗이라 칭함을 받았나니

24. 이로 보건대 사람이 행함으로 의롭다 하심을 받고 믿음으로만은 아니니라

25. 또 이와 같이 기생 라합이 사자들을 접대하여 다른 길로 나가게 할 때에 행함으로 의롭다 하심을 받은 것이 아니냐

26. 영혼 없는 몸이 죽은 것 같이 행함이 없는 믿음은 죽은 것이니라
