[ 2 Chronicles 6:7 - 6:15 ] - hymn 363 [Solomon] knelt in front of the entire community of Israel and lifted his hands toward heaven [and] he prayed. 2 Chronicles 6:13–14 NLT When my husband plays the harmonica for our church praise team, I have noticed that he sometimes closes his eyes when he plays a song. He says this helps him focus and block out distractions so he can play his best—just his harmonica, the music, and him—all praising God. Some people wonder if our eyes must be closed when we pray. Since we can pray at any time in any place, however, it might prove difficult to always close our eyes—especially if we are taking a walk, pulling weeds, or driving a vehicle! There are also no rules on what position our body must be in when we talk to God. When King Solomon prayed to dedicate the temple he had built, he knelt down and ¡°spread out his hands toward heaven¡±(2 Chron. 6:13–14). Kneeling(Eph. 3:14), standing(Luke 18:10–13), and even lying face down(Matt. 26:39) are all mentioned in the Bible as positions for prayer. Whether we kneel or stand before God, whether we lift our hands heavenward or close our eyes so we can better focus on God—it is not the posture of our body, but of our heart that is important. Everything we do ¡°flows from [our heart]¡±(Prov. 4:23). When we pray, may our hearts always be bowed in adoration, gratitude, and humility to our loving God, for we know that His eyes are ¡°open and [His] ears attentive to the prayers¡± of His people(2 Chron. 6:40). • Lord, direct my focus always toward You and teach me to follow You in obedience and love.

The highest form of prayer comes from the depths of a humble heart.

7. "My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

8. But the LORD said to my father David, `Because it was in your heart to build a temple for my Name, you did well to have this in your heart.

9. Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, who is your own flesh and blood -- he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.'

10. "The LORD has kept the promise he made. I have succeeded David my father and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the LORD promised, and I have built the temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

11. There I have placed the ark, in which is the covenant of the LORD that he made with the people of Israel."

12. Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands.

13. Now he had made a bronze platform, five cubits long, five cubits wide and three cubits high, and had placed it in the center of the outer court. He stood on the platform and then knelt down before the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven.

14. He said: "O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven or on earth -- you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.

15. You have kept your promise to your servant David my father; with your mouth you have promised and with your hand you have fulfilled it -- as it is today.

• 주님, 항상 주님께 저의 초점을 맞추게 하시고 순종과 사랑으로 주님을 따를 수 있도록 가르쳐주소서.

최고의 기도하는 모습은 겸손한 마음 깊은 곳에서 나온다.

7. 내 아버지 다윗이 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축할 마음이 있었더니

8. 여호와께서 내 아버지 다윗에게 이르시되 네가 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축할 마음이 있으니 이 마음이 네게 있는 것이 좋도다

9. 그러나 너는 그 성전을 건축하지 못할 것이요 네 허리에서 나올 네 아들 그가 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하리라 하시더니

10. 이제 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 이루셨도다 내가 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 내 아버지 다윗을 대신하여 일어나 이스라엘 왕위에 앉고 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하고

11. 내가 또 그 곳에 여호와께서 이스라엘 자손과 더불어 세우신 언약을 넣은 궤를 두었노라 하니라

12. 솔로몬이 여호와의 제단 앞에서 이스라엘의 모든 회중과 마주 서서 그의 손을 펴니라

13. 솔로몬이 일찍이 놋으로 대를 만들었으니 길이가 다섯 규빗이요 너비가 다섯 규빗이요 높이가 세 규빗이라 뜰 가운데에 두었더니 그가 그 위에 서서 이스라엘의 모든 회중 앞에서 무릎을 꿇고 하늘을 향하여 손을 펴고

14. 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 천지에 주와 같은 신이 없나이다 주께서는 온 마음으로 주의 앞에서 행하는 주의 종들에게 언약을 지키시고 은혜를 베푸시나이다

15. 주께서 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 허락하신 말씀을 지키시되 주의 입으로 말씀하신 것을 손으로 이루심이 오늘과 같으니이다
