Being a True Friend		진정한 친구가 된다는 것
[ Genesis 14:17 - 14:24 ] - hymn 90 Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. Genesis 14:18 Poet Samuel Foss wrote, ¡°Let me live by the side of the road and be a friend to man¡±(¡°The House by the Side of the Road¡±). That¡¯s what I want to be—a friend of people. I want to stand by the way, waiting for weary travelers. To look for those who have been battered and wronged by others, who carry the burden of a wounded and disillusioned heart. To nourish and refresh them with an encouraging word and send them on their way. I may not be able to ¡°fix¡± them or their problems, but I can leave them with a blessing. Melchizedek, both the king of Salem and a priest, blessed Abraham when he was returning weary from battle(Gen. 14). A ¡°blessing¡± is more than a polite response to a sneeze. We bless others when we bring them to the One who is the source of blessing. Melchizedek blessed Abram, saying, ¡°Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth¡±(v. 19). We can bless others by praying with them; we can take them with us to the throne of grace to find help in time of need(Heb. 4:16). We may not be able change their circumstances, but we can show them God. That¡¯s what a true friend does. David Roper		[ 창세기 14:17 - 14:24 ] - 찬송가 90 장 살렘 왕 멜기세덱이 떡과 포도주를 가지고 나왔으니 창세기 14:18 시인 사무엘 포스는 “길가에 살면서 사람들의 친구가 되게 해주오.”라고 적었습니다(‘길가의 집’). 사람들의 친구가 되는 것, 그것이 바로 내가 원하는 것입니다. 나는 피곤한 여행자들을 기다리며 길가에 서 있고 싶습니다. 다른 이들에게 짓밟히고 상처받은 이들, 상처받고 환멸을 느끼는 마음의 짐을 지고 있는 이들을 찾아, 용기를 북돋는 말로 그들을 먹이고 새롭게 하여 여정을 계속 할 수 있도록 돕고 싶습니다. 내가 비록 그들이나 그들의 문제를 ‘해결할’ 수 없을지는 몰라도, 그들을 축복하며 보낼 수는 있습니다. 살렘의 왕이자 제사장이었던 멜기세덱은 아브라함이 지친 몸을 이끌고 전쟁터에서 돌아왔을 때 그를 축복하였습니다(창 14장). ‘축복’은 재채기 했을 때 해주는 점잖은 반응 그 이상의 것입니다. 우리가 다른 이들을 복의 근원이신 분께로 데리고 올 때 우리는 그들을 축복하는 것입니다. 멜기세덱은 “천지의 주재이시요 지극히 높으신 하나님이여 아브람에게 복을 주옵소서”(19절)라고 하며 아브람을 축복했습니다. 우리는 다른 이들과 함께 기도함으로 그들을 축복할 수 있습니다. 우리는 어려울 때 도움을 구하기 위해 그들과 함께 은혜의 보좌 앞으로 나아갈 수 있습니다(히 4:16). 우리가 그들의 환경을 바꿀 수 없을지는 몰라도, 그들에게 하나님을 보여줄 수는 있습니다. 그것이 진정한 친구가 하는 일입니다.

• Jesus, teach us to be a friend of people as You are with us. Give us eyes to see others and their needs and to take the time to listen. Help us to take them to You, the source of life.

A big part of loving is listening.

17. After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley).
18. Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High,
19. and he blessed Abram, saying, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.
20. And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
21. The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself."
22. But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, and have taken an oath
23. that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the thong of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, `I made Abram rich.'
24. I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me -- to Aner, Eshcol and Mamre. Let them have their share."

• 예수님, 주님께서 우리와 함께 계시는 것처럼 우리도 사람들의 친구가 될 수 있도록 가르쳐주소서. 다른 사람들의 형편을 살피고 그들에게 귀 기울일 수 있게 해주소서. 생명의 근원이신 주님께로 그들을 인도할 수 있게 도와주소서.

사랑의 아주 큰 부분은 경청하는 것이다.

17. 아브람이 그돌라오멜과 그와 함께 한 왕들을 쳐부수고 돌아올 때에 소돔 왕이 사웨 골짜기 곧 왕의 골짜기로 나와 그를 영접하였고
18. 살렘 왕 멜기세덱이 떡과 포도주를 가지고 나왔으니 그는 지극히 높으신 하나님의 제사장이었더라
19. 그가 아브람에게 축복하여 이르되 천지의 주재이시요 지극히 높으신 하나님이여 아브람에게 복을 주옵소서
20. 너희 대적을 네 손에 붙이신 지극히 높으신 하나님을 찬송할지로다 하매 아브람이 그 얻은 것에서 십분의 일을 멜기세덱에게 주었더라
21. 소돔 왕이 아브람에게 이르되 사람은 내게 보내고 물품은 네가 가지라
22. 아브람이 소돔 왕에게 이르되 천지의 주재이시요 지극히 높으신 하나님 여호와께 내가 손을 들어 맹세하노니
23. 네 말이 내가 아브람으로 치부하게 하였다 할까 하여 네게 속한 것은 실 한 오라기나 들메끈 한 가닥도 내가 가지지 아니하리라
24. 오직 젊은이들이 먹은 것과 나와 동행한 아넬과 에스골과 마므레의 분깃을 제할지니 그들이 그 분깃을 가질 것이니라
