Alone in Space		우주에 홀로
[ Genesis 28:10 - 28:17 ] - hymn 71 Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it. Genesis 28:16 Apollo 15 astronaut Al Worden knew what it felt like to be on the far side of the moon. For three days back in 1971, he flew alone in his command module, Endeavor, while two crewmates worked thousands of miles below on the surface of the moon. His only companions were the stars overhead that he remembers as being so thick they seemed to wrap him in a sheet of light. As the sun went down on the Old Testament character Jacob¡¯s first night away from home, he too was profoundly alone, but for a different reason. He was on the run from his older brother—who wanted to kill him for stealing the family blessing normally given to the firstborn son. Yet on falling asleep, Jacob had a dream of a staircase joining heaven and earth. As he watched angels ascending and descending, he heard the voice of God promising to be with him and to bless the whole earth through his children. When Jacob woke he said, ¡°Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it¡±(Gen. 28:16). Jacob had isolated himself because of his deceit. Yet as real as his failures, and as dark as the night, he was in the presence of the One whose plans are always better and more far-reaching than our own. Heaven is closer than we think, and the ¡°God of Jacob¡± is with us. • Father, thank You for using the story of Jacob to show us that the glory of Your unseen presence and goodness is far greater than we could imagine.

God is nearer than we think.

10. Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran.
11. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep.
12. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
13. There above it stood the LORD, and he said: "I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.
14. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.
15. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."
16. When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, "Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it."
17. He was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven."

• 하나님 아버지, 야곱의 이야기를 사용하셔서 선하고 보이지 않게 임재하시는 하나님의 영광이 우리가 상상하는 것보다 훨씬 더 위대하다는 것을 보여주시니 감사합니다.

하나님은 우리가 생각하는 것보다 가까이 계신다.

10. 야곱이 브엘세바에서 떠나 하란으로 향하여 가더니
11. 한 곳에 이르러는 해가 진지라 거기서 유숙하려고 그 곳의 한 돌을 가져다가 베개로 삼고 거기 누워 자더니
12. 꿈에 본즉 사닥다리가 땅 위에 서 있는데 그 꼭대기가 하늘에 닿았고 또 본즉 하나님의 사자들이 그 위에서 오르락내리락 하고
13. 또 본즉 여호와께서 그 위에 서서 이르시되 나는 여호와니 너의 조부 아브라함의 하나님이요 이삭의 하나님이라 네가 누워 있는 땅을 내가 너와 네 자손에게 주리니
14. 네 자손이 땅의 티끌 같이 되어 네가 서쪽과 동쪽과 북쪽과 남쪽으로 퍼져나갈지며 땅의 모든 족속이 너와 네 자손으로 말미암아 복을 받으리라
15. 내가 너와 함께 있어 네가 어디로 가든지 너를 지키며 너를 이끌어 이 땅으로 돌아오게 할지라 내가 네게 허락한 것을 다 이루기까지 너를 떠나지 아니하리라 하신지라
16. 야곱이 잠이 깨어 이르되 여호와께서 과연 여기 계시거늘 내가 알지 못하였도다
17. 이에 두려워하여 이르되 두렵도다 이 곳이여 이것은 다름 아닌 하나님의 집이요 이는 하늘의 문이로다 하고
