The Valley of Blessing		축복의 골짜기
[ 2 Chronicles 20:1 - 20:22 ] - hymn 397 If calamity comes . . . [we] will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us. 2 Chronicles 20:9 French artist Henri Matisse felt his work in the last years of his life best represented him. During that time he experimented with a new style, creating colorful, large-scale pictures with paper instead of paint. He decorated the walls of his room with these bright images. This was important to him because he had been diagnosed with cancer and was often confined to his bed. Becoming ill, losing a job, or enduring heartbreak are examples of what some call ¡°being in the valley,¡± where dread overshadows everything else. The people of Judah experienced this when they heard an invading army was approaching (2 Chron. 20:2–3). Their king prayed, ¡°If calamity comes . . . [we] will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us¡± (v. 9). God responded, ¡°Go out to face [your enemies] tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you¡± (v. 17). When Judah¡¯s army arrived at the battlefield, their enemies had already destroyed each other. God¡¯s people spent three days collecting the abandoned equipment, clothing, and valuables. Before leaving, they assembled to praise God and named the place ¡°The Valley of Berakah,¡± which means ¡°blessing.¡± God walks with us through the lowest points in our lives. He can make it possible to discover blessings in the valleys. • Dear God, help me not to be afraid when I encounter difficulty. Help me to believe that Your goodness and love will follow me.

God is the master of turning burdens into blessings.

1. After this, the Moabites and Ammonites with some of the Meunites came to make war on Jehoshaphat.
13. All the men of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones, stood there before the LORD.
14. Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in the assembly.
15. He said: "Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: `Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's.
16. Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel.
17. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.'"
18. Jehoshaphat bowed with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the LORD.
19. Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the LORD, the God of Israel, with very loud voice.
20. Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the LORD your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful."
21. After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: "Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever."
22. As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.

• 사랑하는 하나님, 어려움을 만날 때 두려워하지 않도록 도와주소서. 주님의 선하심과 사랑이 나와 함께 할 것이라는 것을 믿을 수 있게 도와주소서.

하나님은 무거운 짐을 축복으로 바꾸는 분이시다.

1. 그 후에 모압 자손과 암몬 자손들이 마온 사람들과 함께 와서 여호사밧을 치고자 한지라
13. 유다 모든 사람들이 그들의 아내와 자녀와 어린이와 더불어 여호와 앞에 섰더라
14. 여호와의 영이 회중 가운데에서 레위 사람 야하시엘에게 임하셨으니 그는 아삽 자손 맛다냐의 현손이요 여이엘의 증손이요 브나야의 손자요 스가랴의 아들이더라
15. 야하시엘이 이르되 온 유다와 예루살렘 주민과 여호사밧 왕이여 들을지어다 여호와께서 이같이 너희에게 말씀하시기를 너희는 이 큰 무리로 말미암아 두려워하거나 놀라지 말라 이 전쟁은 너희에게 속한 것이 아니요 하나님께 속한 것이니라
16. 내일 너희는 그들에게로 내려가라 그들이 시스 고개로 올라올 때에 너희가 골짜기 어귀 여루엘 들 앞에서 그들을 만나려니와
17. 이 전쟁에는 너희가 싸울 것이 없나니 대열을 이루고 서서 너희와 함께 한 여호와가 구원하는 것을 보라 유다와 예루살렘아 너희는 두려워하지 말며 놀라지 말고 내일 그들을 맞서 나가라 여호와가 너희와 함께 하리라 하셨느니라 하매
18. 여호사밧이 몸을 굽혀 얼굴을 땅에 대니 온 유다와 예루살렘 주민들도 여호와 앞에 엎드려 여호와께 경배하고
19. 그핫 자손과 고라 자손에게 속한 레위 사람들은 서서 심히 큰 소리로 이스라엘 하나님 여호와를 찬송하니라
20. 이에 백성들이 아침에 일찍이 일어나서 드고아 들로 나가니라 나갈 때에 여호사밧이 서서 이르되 유다와 예루살렘 주민들아 내 말을 들을지어다 너희는 너희 하나님 여호와를 신뢰하라 그리하면 견고히 서리라 그의 선지자들을 신뢰하라 그리하면 형통하리라 하고
21. 백성과 더불어 의논하고 노래하는 자들을 택하여 거룩한 예복을 입히고 군대 앞에서 행진하며 여호와를 찬송하여 이르기를 여호와께 감사하세 그의 인자하심이 영원하도다 하게 하였더니
22. 그 노래와 찬송이 시작될 때에 여호와께서 복병을 두어 유다를 치러 온 암몬 자손과 모압과 세일 산 주민들을 치게 하시므로 그들이 패하였으니
