Growing in the Wind		바람 속에서 자라감
[ Mark 4:36 - 4:41 ] - hymn 338 Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him! Mark 4:41 Imagine a world without wind. Lakes would be calm. Falling leaves wouldn¡¯t blow in the streets. But in still air, who would expect trees to suddenly fall over? That¡¯s what happened in a three-acre glass dome built in the Arizona desert. Trees growing inside a huge windless bubble called Biosphere 2 grew faster than normal until suddenly collapsing under their own weight. Project researchers eventually came up with an explanation. These trees needed wind stress to grow strong. Jesus let His disciples experience gale-force winds to strengthen their faith (Mark 4:36–41). During a night crossing of familiar waters, a sudden storm proved too much even for these seasoned fishermen. Wind and waves were swamping their boat while an exhausted Jesus slept in the stern. In a panic they woke Him. Didn't it bother their Teacher that they were about to die? What was He thinking? Then they began to find out. Jesus told the wind and waves to be quiet—and asked His friends why they still had no faith in Him. If the wind had not blown, these disciples would never have asked, ¡°Who is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!¡± (Mark 4:41). Today, life in a protective bubble might sound good. But how strong would our faith be if we couldn¡¯t discover for ourselves His reassuring ¡°be still¡± when the winds of circumstance howl? Mart DeHaan		[ 마가복음 4:36 - 4:41 ] - 찬송가 338 장 그가 누구이기에 바람과 바다도 순종하는가 마가복음 4:41 세상에 바람이 없다고 상상해보십시오. 호수는 잔잔하기만 하고 낙엽은 길에서 휘날리지 않을 것입니다. 그런데 바람이 잔잔한 곳에 있는 나무가 갑자기 쓰러질 수 있을까요? 이 같은 일이 애리조나 사막에 있는 3에이커 크기의 유리로 된 돔 건물 안에서 일어났습니다. ‘바이오스피어 2’라고 불리는 바람이 불지 않는 이 커다란 투명공간 속에서 자라던 여러 그루의 나무는 정상적인 속도보다 빠르게 성장했지만, 갑자기 나무 자신의 무게를 이기지 못하고 쓰러져버렸습니다. 과제를 수행하던 연구원들이 마침내 설명을 찾았는데, 나무가 튼튼하게 성장하려면 바람의 압박이 있어야 한다는 것이었습니다. 예수님은 제자들의 믿음을 강하게 하기 위해 강풍을 겪게 하셨습니다(막 4:36-41). 한밤중에 익숙한 호수를 건너던 중 맞이한 갑작스런 폭풍은 단련된 그들조차 감당하기 매우 힘들었습니다. 예수님이 피곤에 지쳐 배 뒤에서 주무시는 동안 바람과 파도로 인해 배가 물에 잠겨가고 있었습니다. 제자들은 겁에 질려 예수님을 깨웠습니다. ‘예수님은 그들이 곧 죽게 된 것을 신경 쓰지 않으셨을까요? 주님은 무슨 생각을 하고 계셨을까요?’ 곧 제자들은 상황을 바로 깨닫기 시작했습니다. 예수님은 바람과 파도에게 잠잠하라 명하시고, 제자들에게 왜 아직도 그에 대한 믿음이 없느냐고 물으셨습니다. 만약 바람이 불지 않았다면 제자들은 “그가 누구이기에 바람과 바다도 순종하는가”(막 4:41)라고 결코 묻지 않았을 것입니다. 오늘날 안전하기만 한 공간에서 사는 삶이 좋아 보일지도 모르겠습니다. 그러나 우리의 환경에서 바람이 불 때 그분의 “잠잠하라”는 안위의 음성을 찾지 못한다면 우리의 믿음이 얼마나 강해질 수 있을까요?

God never sleeps.

36. Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him.
37. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.
38. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"
39. He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40. He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"
41. They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"

• 하늘의 계신 아버지, 우리를 두렵게 하는 것들은 바로 하나님을 알고 믿게 하는 강력한 힘으로 초대하는 것임을 기억하도록 도와주소서.

하나님은 절대 주무시지 않는다.

36. 그들이 무리를 떠나 예수를 배에 계신 그대로 모시고 가매 다른 배들도 함께 하더니
37. 큰 광풍이 일어나며 물결이 배에 부딪쳐 들어와 배에 가득하게 되었더라
38. 예수께서는 고물에서 베개를 베고 주무시더니 제자들이 깨우며 이르되 선생님이여 우리가 죽게 된 것을 돌보지 아니하시나이까 하니
39. 예수께서 깨어 바람을 꾸짖으시며 바다더러 이르시되 잠잠하라 고요하라 하시니 바람이 그치고 아주 잔잔하여지더라
40. 이에 제자들에게 이르시되 어찌하여 이렇게 무서워하느냐 너희가 어찌 믿음이 없느냐 하시니
41. 그들이 심히 두려워하여 서로 말하되 그가 누구이기에 바람과 바다도 순종하는가 하였더라
