One Short Sleep		짧은 잠
[ 1 Thessalonians 4:13 - 4:18 ] - hymn 479 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. - 2 Corinthians 5:8 Henry Durbanville, a Scottish pastor from another era, told the story of an elderly woman in his parish who lived in a remote part of Scotland. She longed to see the city of Edinburgh, but she was afraid to take the journey because of the long, dark tunnel through which the train had to pass to get there. One day, however, circumstances compelled her to go to Edinburgh, and as the train sped toward the city, her agitation increased. But before the train reached the tunnel, the woman, worn out with worry, fell fast asleep. When she awoke she had already arrived in the city! It¡¯s possible that some of us will not experience death. If we¡¯re alive when Jesus returns, we will ¡°meet the Lord in the air¡±(1 Thess. 4:13–18). But many of us will pass into heaven through death and for some that thought causes great anxiety. We worry that the process of dying will be too difficult to bear. With the assurance of Jesus as our Savior we can rest in the confidence that when we close our eyes on earth and pass through death, we will open our eyes in God¡¯s presence. ¡°One short sleep past we wake eternally,¡±John Donne said.		[ 데살로니가전서 4:13 - 4:18 ] - 찬송가 479 장 우리가 담대하여 원하는 바는 차라리 몸을 떠나 주와 함께 있는 그것이라 - 고린도후서 5:8 지난 시절에 살았던 스코틀랜드의 목사 헨리 더반빌은 스코틀랜드의 외딴 지역에 있는 자신의 교구에 소속된 나이 많은 한 여인의 이야기를 들려줍니다. 그녀는 에딘버러에 가보고 싶어 했지만, 그곳에 가려면 기차로 어둡고 긴 터널을 지나야 했기 때문에 여행에 나서기를 꺼려하였습니다. 하지만 어느 날 그녀가 에딘버러에 가야만 할 일이 생겼는데, 기차가 그 도시를 향해 다가갈수록 그녀의 초조함은 점점 심해졌습니다. 그러나 기차가 터널에 가까워지기 전 그녀는 걱정에 지쳐서 그만 잠이 들어버렸습니다. 잠에서 깨어났을 때는 벌써 도시에 도착한 뒤였습니다! 우리 중에는 죽음을 경험하지 않을 사람들도 있을 것입니다. 예수님이 재림하실 때 우리가 살아 있다면 우리는 “공중에서 주를 영접”하게 될 것입니다(살전 4:13-18). 그러나 우리 대부분은 죽음을 거쳐 천국으로 가게 되는데, 어떤 사람들은 이 생각을 하며 크게 염려합니다. 죽음의 과정이 너무 견디기 힘든 과정이 될까 걱정하는 것입니다. 예수님을 우리의 구주로 확신하면, 우리는 지상에서 눈을 감고 죽음을 통과한 후 하나님 앞에서 눈을 뜨게 된다는 믿음 안에서 안식할 수 있습니다. 존 더니는 “짧은 잠을 잔 후 우리는 영원히 깨어있게 된다.”고 하였습니다.

I love the life You¡¯ve given to me, Lord, yet I wonder what it will be like to see You personally. Help me to trust You with the future. I look forward to that day when I meet You.

To see Jesus will be heaven¡¯s greatest joy.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

[13] But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.
[14] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
[15] For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.
[16] For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
[17] Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
[18] Therefore comfort one another with these words.

주여, 주님이 주신 삶을 사랑합니다. 하지만 주님을 직접 뵙는 것이 어떤 것인지 모르겠습니다. 내세를 주님께 맡길 수 있도록 도와주소서. 주님 뵐 날을 기대합니다.

천국에서의 가장 큰 기쁨은 예수님을 만나는 것이다.

데살로니가전서 4:13-18

[13] 형제들아 자는 자들에 관하여는 너희가 알지 못함을 우리가 원하지 아니하노니 이는 소망 없는 다른 이와 같이 슬퍼하지 않게 하려 함이라
[14] 우리가 예수께서 죽으셨다가 다시 살아나심을 믿을진대 이와 같이 예수 안에서 자는 자들도 하나님이 그와 함께 데리고 오시리라
[15] 우리가 주의 말씀으로 너희에게 이것을 말하노니 주께서 강림하실 때까지 우리 살아 남아 있는 자도 자는 자보다 결코 앞서지 못하리라
[16] 주께서 호령과 천사장의 소리와 하나님의 나팔 소리로 친히 하늘로부터 강림하시리니 그리스도 안에서 죽은 자들이 먼저 일어나고
[17] 그 후에 우리 살아 남은 자들도 그들과 함께 구름 속으로 끌어 올려 공중에서 주를 영접하게 하시리니 그리하여 우리가 항상 주와 함께 있으리라
[18] 그러므로 이러한 말로 서로 위로하라
