Listeners and Doers		듣는 자와 행하는 자
[ James 1:22 - 1:27 ] - hymn Look after orphans and widows in their distress. - James 1:27 The phone rang in the night for my husband, a minister. One of the prayer warriors in our church, a woman in her seventies who lived alone, was being taken to the hospital. She was so ill that she was no longer eating or drinking, nor could she see or walk. Not knowing if she would live or die, we asked God for His help and mercy, feeling particularly concerned for her welfare. The church sprang into action with a round-the-clock schedule of visitors who not only ministered to her but showed Christian love to the other patients, visitors, and medical staff. James¡¯s letter to the early Jewish Christians encouraged the church to care for the needy. James wanted the believers to go beyond just listening to the Word of God and to put their beliefs into action (1:22–25). By citing the need to care for orphans and widows (v.27), he named a vulnerable group, for in the ancient world the family would have been responsible for their care. How do we respond to those who are at risk in our church and community? Do we see caring for the widows and orphans as a vital part of the exercise of our faith? May God open our eyes to the opportunities to serve people in need everywhere.		[ 야고보서 1:22 - 1:27 ] - 찬송가 장 고아와 과부를 그 환난 중에 돌보고 - 야고보서 1:27 목회자인 내 남편에게 한밤중에 전화가 걸려 왔습니다. 우리 교회의 중보기도팀 중 한 분인, 혼자 살고 있던 70대 여성이 지금 병원으로 실려 가고 있다는 것이었습니다. 그녀는 병세가 너무 심해 더 이상 먹거나 마시지도 못하고 보지도 걷지도 못했습니다. 그녀가 어떻게 될지 모르는 상황에서 우리는 특히 그녀가 제대로 돌봄을 받고 있는지를 걱정하며 하나님께 도움과 자비를 구했습니다. 교회는 24시간 계속 사람들이 그녀를 방문할 수 있도록 계획을 짰는데, 이들은 그녀를 돌볼 뿐 아니라 다른 환자들과 방문객들, 그리고 병원직원들에게도 그리스도의 사랑을 보여주었습니다. 야고보는 초기의 유대인 기독교인들에게 보낸 편지에서 교회가 궁핍한 사람들을 보살필 것을 권면했습니다. 야고보는 신자들이 하나님의 말씀을 단순히 듣는데 그치지 않고 그들의 믿음을 행동으로 실천하기를 원했습니다(1:22-25). 그는 고아들과 과부들을 보살필 필요를 말하며(27절) 그들을 연약한 사람들이라고 했는데, 그것은 고대시대에는 가족이 있다면 가족이 그들을 보살필 책임이 있었기 때문입니다. 우리는 교회 안에서나 밖에서 위험에 처한 사람들을 어떻게 대하고 있습니까? 우리는 믿음을 실천하는 중요한 행동의 하나로 과부와 고아들을 돌보고 있습니까? 하나님께서 우리의 눈을 열어 도처에 도움이 필요한 사람들을 섬길 기회를 볼 수 있게 해주시기를 바랍니다.

Father God, Your heart beats for the vulnerable and for those who are alone. Help us to love Your people as You love them, for we are made in Your image.

True faith demands not only our words, but our actions.

James 1:22-27

[22] But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
[23] For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;
[24] for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
[25] But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
[26] If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless.
[27] Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

하나님 아버지, 연약하거나 홀로 있는 사람들을 향해 당신의 심장은 뛰고 있습니다. 하나님께서 아버지의 백성들을 사랑하시는 것처럼 우리도 그들을 사랑할 수 있게 도와주소서. 우리는 하나님의 형상으로 만들어졌습니다.

진실한 믿음은 우리의 말뿐만 아니라 행동도 요구한다.

야고보서 1:22-27

[22] 너희는 말씀을 행하는 자가 되고 듣기만 하여 자신을 속이는 자가 되지 말라
[23] 누구든지 말씀을 듣고 행하지 아니하면 그는 거울로 자기의 생긴 얼굴을 보는 사람과 같아서
[24] 제 자신을 보고 가서 그 모습이 어떠했는지를 곧 잊어버리거니와
[25] 자유롭게 하는 온전한 율법을 들여다보고 있는 자는 듣고 잊어버리는 자가 아니요 실천하는 자니 이 사람은 그 행하는 일에 복을 받으리라
[26] 누구든지 스스로 경건하다 생각하며 자기 혀를 재갈 물리지 아니하고 자기 마음을 속이면 이 사람의 경건은 헛것이라
[27] 하나님 아버지 앞에서 정결하고 더러움이 없는 경건은 곧 고아와 과부를 그 환난중에 돌보고 또 자기를 지켜 세속에 물들지 아니하는 그것이니라
