[ Psalms 78:1 - 78:8 ] - hymn 71 We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord. - Psalm 78:4 I enjoy watching relay races. The physical strength, speed, skill, and endurance required of the athletes amaze me. But one crucial point of the race always gets my special attention and makes me anxious. It is the moment the baton is passed to the next athlete. One moment of delay, one slip, and the race could be lost. In a sense, Christians are in a relay race, carrying the baton of faith and the knowledge of the Lord and of His Word. And the Bible tells us about our need to pass this baton from one generation to another. In Psalm 78, Asaph declares: ¡°I will utter ... things from of old—things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us .... We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done¡±(vv.2–4). Moses said something similar to the Israelites: ¡°Do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them¡±(Deut.4:9). For generations to come, we are called to lovingly and courageously do whatever we can to pass along ¡°the praises of him who called [us] out of darkness into his wonderful light¡±(1 Peter 2:9). - Lawrence Darmani		[ 시편 78:1 - 78:8 ] - 찬송가 71 장 우리가…그가 행하신 기이한 사적을 후대에 전하리로다 - 시편 78:4 나는 릴레이 경주를 즐겨 봅니다. 운동선수들이 보여주는 체력, 속도, 기술, 지구력은 정말 대단합니다. 그런데, 특별히 관심을 갖고 불안한 마음으로 경주를 지켜보는 결정적인 순간이 있습니다. 그것은 바로 배턴이 다음 주자에게 넘겨지는 순간입니다. 잠깐 지체되거나 한 번이라도 놓치게 되면 경주에서 질 수 있기 때문입니다. 어떤 의미에서 그리스도인들은 주님과 주님의 말씀을 아는 지식과 믿음의 배턴을 가지고 릴레이 경주를 달리고 있습니다. 성경은 우리가 이 배턴을 계속해서 다음 세대에게 전해야 한다고 말하고 있습니다. 시편 78편에서 아삽은 이렇게 선포합니다. “내가…예로부터 감추어졌던 것을 드러내려 하니 이는 우리가 들어서 아는 바요 우리의 조상들이 우리에게 전한 바라 우리가…여호와의 영예와 그의 능력과 그가 행하신 기이한 사적을 후대에 전하리로다”(2-4절). 모세도 이스라엘 백성들에게 비슷한 이야기를 했습니다. “네가 눈으로 본 그 일을 잊어버리지 말라 네가 생존하는 날 동안에 그 일들이 네 마음에서 떠나지 않도록 조심하라 너는 그 일들을 네 아들들과 네 손자들에게 알게 하라”(신 4:9). 다가올 세대를 위해 우리가 받은 소명은, “[우리를] 어두운 데서 불러내어 그의 기이한 빛에 들어가게 하신 이의 아름다운 덕을”(벧전 2:9) 전해주기 위해, 사랑과 용기를 가지고 우리가 할 수 있는 무엇이든 하는 것입니다.

Father, help me to be faithful in passing my faith along to someone else.

We influence future generations by living for Christ today.

Psalm 78:1–8

[1] A Contemplation of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my law; Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
[2] I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old,
[3] Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us.
[4] We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.
[5] For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers, That they should make them known to their children;
[6] That the generation to come might know them, The children who would be born, That they may arise and declare them to their children,
[7] That they may set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments;
[8] And may not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not set its heart aright, And whose spirit was not faithful to God.

하나님 아버지, 저의 믿음을 다른 사람에게 전해주는 일에 충실할 수 있도록 도와주소서.

오늘 그리스도를 위한 삶을 삶으로써 다음 세대에 영향을 끼칠 수 있다.

[2] 내가 입을 열어 비유로 말하며 예로부터 감추어졌던 것을 드러내려 하니
[3] 이는 우리가 들어서 아는 바요 우리의 조상들이 우리에게 전한 바라
[4] 우리가 이를 그들의 자손에게 숨기지 아니하고 여호와의 영예와 그의 능력과 그가 행하신 기이한 사적을 후대에 전하리로다
[5] 여호와께서 증거를 야곱에게 세우시며 법도를 이스라엘에게 정하시고 우리 조상들에게 명령하사 그들의 자손에게 알리라 하셨으니
[6] 이는 그들로 후대 곧 태어날 자손에게 이를 알게 하고 그들은 일어나 그들의 자손에게 일러서
[7] 그들로 그들의 소망을 하나님께 두며 하나님께서 행하신 일을 잊지 아니하고 오직 그의 계명을 지켜서
[8] 그들의 조상들 곧 완고하고 패역하여 그들의 마음이 정직하지 못하며 그 심령이 하나님께 충성하지 아니하는 세대와 같이 되지 아니하게 하려 하심이로다
