[ Isaiah 40:1 - 40:11 ] - hymn 272 In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. - Isaiah 40:3 Madagascar¡¯s National Road 5 offers the beauty of a white sand coastline, palm forests, and the Indian Ocean. Its 125 miles of two-track road, bare rock, sand, and mud, however, have given it a reputation for being one of the worst roads in the world. Tourists looking for breathtaking views are advised to have a four-wheel-drive vehicle, an experienced driver, and an onboard mechanic. John the Baptist came to announce the good news of the coming Messiah to those traveling on rough roads and through barren landscape. Repeating the words of the prophet Isaiah written centuries earlier, he urged curious crowds to ¡°prepare the way for the Lord¡± and to ¡°make straight paths for him¡±(Luke 3:4–5; Isa.40:3) John knew that if the people of Jerusalem were going to be ready to welcome their long-awaited Messiah their hearts needed to change. Mountains of religious pride would need to come down. Those in the valley of despair because of their broken lives would need to be lifted up. Neither could be done by human effort alone. Those who refused to respond to the Spirit of God by accepting John¡¯s baptism of repentance failed to recognize their Messiah when He came (Luke 7:29–30). Yet those who saw their need for change discovered in Jesus the goodness and wonder of God.		[ 이사야 40:1 - 40:11 ] - 찬송가 272 장 너희는 광야에서 여호와의 길을 예비하라 사막에서 우리 하나님의 대로를 평탄하게 하라 - 이사야 40:3 마다가스카르의 5번 국도에서는 하얀 모래사장이 있는 해안선과 야자수 숲, 인도양의 아름다운 모습을 볼 수 있습니다. 그러나 약 200킬로미터의 이 2차선 도로는 돌멩이와 모래, 그리고 진흙 때문에 세계에서 가장 나쁜 길 중의 하나로 악명이 높습니다. 사람들은 관광객들에게 이 숨 막히는 경관을 보러가기를 원한다면 반드시 사륜구동 차에다가 숙련된 운전기사와 자동차 정비사를 함께 대동해야 한다고 충고합니다. 세례 요한은 거친 길과 황폐한 경관을 지나 여행하는 이들에게 메시아가 오신다는 복음을 알리려고 왔습니다. 요한은 여러 세기 전에 이사야 선지자가 기록한 말을 여러 번 반복하며, 호기심 많은 군중에게 “너희는 주의 길을 준비하라 그의 오실 길을 곧게 하라”(눅 3:4-5; 사 40:3)라고 촉구했습니다. 예루살렘의 사람들이 그토록 오래 기다렸던 메시아를 맞이하려면, 그들의 마음이 달라져야한다는 것을 요한은 알고 있었습니다. 종교적 교만의 산들은 낮아질 필요가 있었으며, 자신들의 망가진 삶으로 절망의 골짜기에 있는 사람들은 기운을 돋울 필요가 있었습니다. 그러나 어느 한 쪽도 인간의 노력만으로는 될 수 없었습니다. 요한으로부터 회개의 세례를 받지 않고 하나님의 영을 받아들이는 것을 거부했던 사람들은 그들의 메시아가 왔을 때 그를 알아보지 못했습니다(눅 7:29-30). 그러나 달라져야 할 필요를 느꼈던 사람들은 예수님 안에서 하나님의 선하심과 경이로움을 발견했습니다.

Father in heaven, we need You to do in us what we cannot do for ourselves. Please remove any mountain of pride or valley of despair that would keep us from welcoming You into our lives.

Repentance clears the way for our walk with God.

Isaiah 40:1–11

[1] "Comfort, yes, comfort My people!" Says your God.
[2] "Speak comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her, That her warfare is ended, That her iniquity is pardoned; For she has received from the LORD'S hand Double for all her sins."
[3] The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Prepare the way of the LORD; Make straight in the desert A highway for our God.
[4] Every valley shall be exalted And every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight And the rough places smooth;
[5] The glory of the LORD shall be revealed, And all flesh shall see it together; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."
[6] The voice said, "Cry out!" And he said, "What shall I cry?" "All flesh is grass, And all its loveliness is like the flower of the field.
[7] The grass withers, the flower fades, Because the breath of the LORD blows upon it; Surely the people are grass.
[8] The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever."
[9] O Zion, You who bring good tidings, Get up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, You who bring good tidings, Lift up your voice with strength, Lift it up, be not afraid; Say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!"
[10] Behold, the Lord GOD shall come with a strong hand, And His arm shall rule for Him; Behold, His reward is with Him, And His work before Him.
[11] He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are with young.

하나님 아버지, 우리 스스로는 할 수 없는 일들을 하나님께서 우리 안에서 행해 주소서. 하나님을 우리 삶에 맞아들이지 못하게 하는 어떤 교만의 산이나 절망의 골짜기들을 다 제거해주소서.

회개는 우리가 하나님과 함께 걸어가는 길을 깨끗이 치워준다.

이사야 40:1–11

[1] 너희의 하나님이 이르시되 너희는 위로하라 내 백성을 위로하라
[2] 너희는 예루살렘의 마음에 닿도록 말하며 그것에게 외치라 그 노역의 때가 끝났고 그 죄악이 사함을 받았느니라 그의 모든 죄로 말미암아 여호와의 손에서 벌을 배나 받았느니라 할지니라 하시니라
[3] 외치는 자의 소리여 이르되 너희는 광야에서 여호와의 길을 예비하라 사막에서 우리 하나님의 대로를 평탄하게 하라
[4] 골짜기마다 돋우어지며 산마다, 언덕마다 낮아지며 고르지 아니한 곳이 평탄하게 되며 험한 곳이 평지가 될 것이요
[5] 여호와의 영광이 나타나고 모든 육체가 그것을 함께 보리라 이는 여호와의 입이 말씀하셨느니라
[6] 말하는 자의 소리여 이르되 외치라 대답하되 내가 무엇이라 외치리이까 하니 이르되 모든 육체는 풀이요 그의 모든 아름다움은 들의 꽃과 같으니
[7] 풀은 마르고 꽃이 시듦은 여호와의 기운이 그 위에 붊이라 이 백성은 실로 풀이로다
[8] 풀은 마르고 꽃은 시드나 우리 하나님의 말씀은 영원히 서리라 하라
[9] 아름다운 소식을 시온에 전하는 자여 너는 높은 산에 오르라 아름다운 소식을 예루살렘에 전하는 자여 너는 힘써 소리를 높이라 두려워하지 말고 소리를 높여 유다의 성읍들에게 이르기를 너희의 하나님을 보라 하라
[10] 보라 주 여호와께서 장차 강한 자로 임하실 것이요 친히 그의 팔로 다스리실 것이라 보라 상급이 그에게 있고 보응이 그의 앞에 있으며
[11] 그는 목자 같이 양 떼를 먹이시며 어린 양을 그 팔로 모아 품에 안으시며 젖먹이는 암컷들을 온순히 인도하시리로다
