[ Psalms 119:17 - 119:19 ] - hymn 384 I have hidden your word in my heart. - Psalm 119:11 One difficult part of growing older is the fear of dementia and the loss of short-term memory. But Dr. Benjamin Mast, an expert on the topic of Alzheimer¡¯s disease, offers some encouragement. He says that patients¡¯ brains are often so ¡°well worn¡± and ¡°habitual¡± that they can hear an old hymn and sing along to every word. He suggests that spiritual disciplines such as reading Scripture, praying, and singing hymns cause truth to become ¡°embedded¡± in our brains, ready to be accessed when prompted. In Psalm 119:11, we read how the power of hiding God¡¯s words in our heart can keep us from sinning. It can strengthen us, teach us obedience, and direct our footsteps (vv.28, 67, 133). This in turn gives us hope and understanding (vv.49, 130). Even when we begin to notice memory slips in ourselves or in the life of a loved one, God¡¯s Word, memorized years earlier, is still there, ¡°stored up¡± or ¡°treasured¡± in the heart (v.11 esv, nasb). Even as our minds lose the keen edge of youth, we know that God¡¯s words, hidden in our hearts, will continue to speak to us. Nothing—not even failing memories—can separate us from His love and care. We have His word on it.		[ 시편 119:17 - 119:19 ] - 찬송가 384 장 주의 말씀을 내 마음에 두었나이다 - 시편 119:11 늙어가면서 겪는 어려움 중 하나는 치매와 단기기억력을 잃는 것에 대한 두려움입니다. 그러나 알츠하이머 전문가인 벤자민 마스트 박사는 약간의 격려가 되는 말을 해줍니다. 그에 의하면, 환자들의 두뇌는 대개 아주 “잘 사용되었고” “습관화 되어” 있어서 옛날에 부르던 찬송을 들으면 한 단어도 빼놓지 않고 따라 부를 수 있다고 합니다. 그는 성경읽기나 기도, 찬송가를 부르는 등의 영적훈련이 진리를 우리의 뇌 속에 완전히 “자리 잡게” 하여, 자극을 주면 언제나 꺼내 사용할 수 있다고 말합니다. 시편 119편 11절 말씀은 우리 마음속에 감춰진 하나님의 말씀의 능력이 어떻게 우리를 죄로부터 지켜줄 수 있는지를 보여 줍니다. 하나님의 말씀은 우리를 강하게 하며, 순종하도록 가르치고, 우리의 발걸음을 인도해줍니다(28, 67, 133절). 그것은 다시 우리에게 소망과 깨달음을 줍니다(49, 130절). 우리 자신에게서나 사랑하는 사람들에게서 기억이 흐려지는 것을 알아차리기 시작할 때라도, 일찍이 암송했던 하나님의 말씀은 여전히 마음속에 “저장되어” 있거나 “보물 같이 간직되어” 있습니다(11절). 비록 우리 마음에서 젊은 날의 예리함은 사라지더라도, 우리 마음속에 감춰진 하나님의 말씀은 계속 우리와 대화를 하게 될 것입니다. 아무것도, 심지어 흐려지는 기억까지도, 주님의 사랑과 보호로부터 우리를 떼어놓지 못합니다. 하나님의 말씀이 그렇게 약속하고 있습니다.

Lord, You are such an amazing comfort to us. Thank You that our salvation and spiritual well-being does not depend on our failing minds and bodies, but on You and Your faithfulness to Your Word.

Psalm 119:17–19, 130–134

[17] Deal bountifully with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word.
[18] Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.
[19] I am a stranger in the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me.

[130] The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.
[131] I opened my mouth and panted, For I longed for Your commandments.
[132] Look upon me and be merciful to me, As Your custom is toward those who love Your name.
[133] Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me.
[134] Redeem me from the oppression of man, That I may keep Your precepts.

주님, 주님은 우리에게 진정 놀라운 위로자이십니다. 우리의 구원과 영적인 행복이 우리의 스러지는 몸과 마음에 있지 않고 주님과 주님의 신실하신 말씀에 있음에 감사드립니다.

하나님의 약속은 반드시 이루어진다.

[17] 주의 종을 후대하여 살게 하소서 그리하시면 주의 말씀을 지키리이다
[18] 내 눈을 열어서 주의 율법에서 놀라운 것을 보게 하소서
[19] 나는 땅에서 나그네가 되었사오니 주의 계명들을 내게 숨기지 마소서

[130] 주의 말씀을 열면 빛이 비치어 우둔한 사람들을 깨닫게 하나이다
[131] 내가 주의 계명들을 사모하므로 내가 입을 열고 헐떡였나이다
[132] 주의 이름을 사랑하는 자들에게 베푸시던 대로 내게 돌이키사 내게 은혜를 베푸소서
[133] 나의 발걸음을 주의 말씀에 굳게 세우시고 어떤 죄악도 나를 주관하지 못하게 하소서
[134] 사람의 박해에서 나를 구원하소서 그리하시면 내가 주의 법도들을 지키리이다
