Who Are You Defending?		누구를 방어하는가?
[ Mark 10:13 - 10:16 ] - hymn 370 At just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. - Romans 5:6 When Kathleen¡¯s teacher called her to the front of the grammar class to analyze a sentence, she panicked. As a recent transfer student, she hadn¡¯t learned that aspect of grammar. The class laughed at her. Instantly the teacher sprang to her defense. ¡°She can out-write any of you any day of the week!¡± he explained. Many years later, Kathleen gratefully recalled the moment: ¡°I started that day to try to write as well as he said I could.¡± Eventually, Kathleen Parker would win a Pulitzer Prize for her writing. As did Kathleen¡¯s teacher, Jesus identified with the defenseless and vulnerable. When His disciples kept children away from Him, He grew angry. ¡°Let the little children come to me,¡± He said, ¡°and do not hinder them¡±(Mark 10:14). He reached out to a despised ethnic group, making the Good Samaritan the hero of His parable (Luke 10:25–37) and offering genuine hope to a searching Samaritan woman at Jacob¡¯s well (John 4:1–26). He protected and forgave a woman trapped in adultery (John 8:1–11). And though we were utterly helpless, Christ gave His life for all of us (Rom.5:6). When we defend the vulnerable and the marginalized, we give them a chance to realize their potential. We show them real love, and in a small but significant way we reflect the very heart of Jesus.		[ 마가복음 10:13 - 10:16 ] - 찬송가 370 장 우리가 아직 연약할 때에 기약대로 그리스도께서 경건하지 않은 자를 위하여 죽으셨도다 - 로마서 5:6 캐슬린은 문법시간에 선생님이 그녀를 앞으로 불러내어 문장을 분석해보라고 시켰을 때 매우 당황했습니다. 최근에 전학 왔던 캐슬린은 그 문법 형식을 아직 배우지 못했던 것입니다. 반 아이들은 모두 캐슬린을 비웃었습니다. 선생님이 곧 그녀를 방어해주시면서 “캐슬린은 지금 여기 있는 너희들 중 어느 누구보다도 글을 더 잘 쓸 수 있단다!”라고 말씀하셨습니다. 오랜 세월이 지난 후, 캐슬린은 그 순간을 감사한 마음으로 다음과 같이 회상했습니다. “그날 이후로 선생님이 제가 할 수 있다고 말씀하신 만큼 잘 쓰려는 노력을 하게 되었습니다.” 마침내 캐슬린 파커는 그녀의 저서로 퓰리처상을 타게 됩니다. 캐슬린의 선생님이 방어해주었듯이, 예수님도 아무런 방어도 하지 못하는 취약한 사람들을 보호하셨습니다. 그의 제자들이 어린아이들을 예수님께 데려오지 못하도록 하자 예수님은 노하시고, “어린아이들이 내게 오는 것을 용납하고 금하지 말라”(막 10:14)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님은 착한 사마리아인을 주님이 말씀하신 비유에서 주인공으로 만드셨으며(눅 10:25-37), 야곱의 우물가에서는 영적으로 목마른 사마리아 여인에게 참된 희망을 제공하시면서(요 4:1-26), 멸시당하는 종족에게 가까이 다가가셨습니다. 주님은 간음 중에 잡힌 여자를 보호해주시고 용서하셨습니다(요 8:1-11). 그리고 우리가 전적으로 무력한 상태에 있었지만, 그리스도께서 우리 모두를 위해 돌아가셨습니다(롬 5:6). 우리가 취약하고 소외된 사람들을 방어해줄 때, 우리는 그들에게 그들의 잠재력을 깨닫게 하는 기회를 주는 것입니다. 우리는 그들에게 진정한 사랑을 보여주며, 작지만 매우 뚜렷하게 예수님의 마음 그대로를 반영해 보여주는 것입니다.

Father, help me recognize the people in my life who need someone to stand with them. Forgive me for thinking that it¡¯s ¡°not my problem.¡± Help me to love others as You do.

It is impossible to love Christ without loving others.

Mark 10:13–16

[13] Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them.
[14] But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.
[15] "Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it."
[16] And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them.

하나님 아버지, 저의 삶 가운데 누군가가 함께 서 있어주어야 할 필요가 있는 사람들을 알아볼 수 있도록 도와주소서. “내 문제가 아니야”라고 생각하는 저를 용서해주시고, 주님이 사랑하시듯 저도 다른 사람들을 사랑할 수 있도록 도와주소서.

다른 사람을 사랑하지 않으면서 예수님을 사랑하기는 불가능하다.

마가복음 10:13–16

[13] 사람들이 예수께서 만져 주심을 바라고 어린 아이들을 데리고 오매 제자들이 꾸짖거늘
[14] 예수께서 보시고 노하시어 이르시되 어린 아이들이 내게 오는 것을 용납하고 금하지 말라 하나님의 나라가 이런 자의 것이니라
[15] 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 누구든지 하나님의 나라를 어린 아이와 같이 받들지 않는 자는 결단코 그 곳에 들어가지 못하리라 하시고
[16] 그 어린 아이들을 안고 그들 위에 안수하시고 축복하시니라
