[ 2 Kings 6:8 - 6:17 ] - hymn 292 Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see. - 2 Kings 6:17 Emil was a homeless man who spent a whole year looking down at the pavement as he plodded around the city day after day. He was ashamed to meet the eyes of others in case they recognized him, for his life had not always been lived out on the streets. Even more than that, he was intent on finding a coin that had been dropped or a half-smoked cigarette. His downward focus became such a habit that the bones of his spine began to become fixed in that position so that he had great difficulty in straightening up at all. The prophet Elisha¡¯s servant was looking in the wrong direction and was terrified at the huge army the king of Aram had sent to capture his master (2 Kings 6:15). But Elisha knew he was seeing only the danger and the size of the opposition. He needed to have his eyes opened to see the divine protection that surrounded them, which was far greater than anything Aram could bring against Elisha (v.17). When life is difficult and we feel we are under pressure, it¡¯s so easy to see nothing but our problems. But the author of the letter to the Hebrews suggests a better way. He reminds us that Jesus went through unimaginable suffering in our place and that if we fix our eyes on Him (12:2), He will strengthen us.		[ 열왕기하 6:8 - 6:17 ] - 찬송가 292 장 원하건대 그의 눈을 열어서 보게 하옵소서 - 열왕기하 6:17 에밀은 날마다 길바닥만 내려다보면서 시내를 어슬렁거리며 한 해를 보내던 노숙자였습니다. 그가 평생을 노숙자로 길거리에서 살았던 것은 아니기 때문에, 자기를 알아보는 사람이 있을까봐 다른 사람들과 눈을 마주치기를 원하지 않았습니다. 하지만 그 이유보다는 길에 떨어진 동전이나 남이 반쯤 피우다 버린 담배꽁초라도 찾으려는 목적이 더 컸습니다. 그는 늘 바닥을 보며 걷는 것이 아주 습관이 되어 등뼈가 그렇게 고정되어버려서 등을 꼿꼿이 펴는 것이 아주 어렵게 되었습니다. 엘리사 선지자의 사환도 잘못된 방향을 보고 있어서, 아람 왕이 자기 주인을 잡으려고 보낸 큰 군대를 보고 두려워했습니다(왕하 6:15). 그러나 엘리사는 사환이 위험과 적군의 크기만 보고 있음을 알았습니다. 아람 왕이 엘리사를 치려고 동원한 어떤 군대보다 훨씬 더 거대한, 그들을 둘러싸고 있는 하나님의 보호하심을 볼 수 있도록 사환의 눈을 열어주어야 했습니다(17절). 삶이 힘들고 곤경에 처해 있다고 느낄 때, 우리는 오직 우리의 문제만 바라보기 쉽습니다. 그러나 히브리서 기자는 더 나은 길을 제시해줍니다. 그는 예수님께서 우리를 대신하여 상상하기조차 힘든 고난을 당하셨으며, 우리가 우리의 눈을 주님께 고정하기만 하면(12:2) 주님이 우리에게 힘을 주실 것이라는 사실을 상기시켜주고 있습니다.

Sometimes, Lord, it seems as if I can only see the knots and tangles in the tapestry of my life. Please help me to open my eyes and see the beautiful picture You are weaving.

2 Kings 6:8–17

[8] Now the king of Syria was making war against Israel; and he consulted with his servants, saying, "My camp will be in such and such a place."
[9] And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, "Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are coming down there."
[10] Then the king of Israel sent someone to the place of which the man of God had told him. Thus he warned him, and he was watchful there, not just once or twice.
[11] Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled by this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, "Will you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?"
[12] And one of his servants said, "None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom."
[13] So he said, "Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him." And it was told him, saying, "Surely he is in Dothan."
[14] Therefore he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city.
[15] And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?"
[16] So he answered, "Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them."
[17] And Elisha prayed, and said, "LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see." Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

주님, 때때로 제 삶의 태피스트리(역자 주: 무늬 놓은 두꺼운 천으로 만든 벽걸이)에서 매듭들과 엉켜 있는 실들만 보이는 것 같습니다. 제 눈을 열어주셔서 주님이 엮고 계시는 아름다운 그림을 볼 수 있게 하소서.

주님을 중심에 모실 때, 삶에 초점이 맞춰진다.

열왕기하 6:8–17

[8] 그 때에 아람 왕이 이스라엘과 더불어 싸우며 그의 신복들과 의논하여 이르기를 우리가 아무데 아무데 진을 치리라 하였더니
[9] 하나님의 사람이 이스라엘 왕에게 보내 이르되 왕은 삼가 아무 곳으로 지나가지 마소서 아람 사람이 그 곳으로 나오나이다 하는지라
[10] 이스라엘 왕이 하나님의 사람이 자기에게 말하여 경계한 곳으로 사람을 보내 방비하기가 한두 번이 아닌지라
[11] 이러므로 아람 왕의 마음이 불안하여 그 신복들을 불러 이르되 우리 중에 누가 이스라엘 왕과 내통하는 것을 내게 말하지 아니하느냐 하니
[12] 그 신복 중의 한 사람이 이르되 우리 주 왕이여 아니로소이다 오직 이스라엘 선지자 엘리사가 왕이 침실에서 하신 말씀을 이스라엘의 왕에게 고하나이다 하는지라
[13] 왕이 이르되 너희는 가서 엘리사가 어디 있나 보라 내가 사람을 보내어 그를 잡으리라 왕에게 아뢰어 이르되 보라 그가 도단에 있도다 하나이다
[14] 왕이 이에 말과 병거와 많은 군사를 보내매 그들이 밤에 가서 그 성읍을 에워쌌더라
[15] 하나님의 사람의 사환이 일찍이 일어나서 나가보니 군사와 말과 병거가 성읍을 에워쌌는지라 그의 사환이 엘리사에게 말하되 아아, 내 주여 우리가 어찌하리이까 하니
[16] 대답하되 두려워하지 말라 우리와 함께 한 자가 그들과 함께 한 자보다 많으니라 하고
[17] 기도하여 이르되 여호와여 원하건대 그의 눈을 열어서 보게 하옵소서 하니 여호와께서 그 청년의 눈을 여시매 그가 보니 불말과 불병거가 산에 가득하여 엘리사를 둘렀더라
