[ Romans 7:14 - 7:25 ] - hymn 260 I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. - Romans 7:18 In his book Jumping Through Fires, David Nasser tells the story of his spiritual journey. Before he began a relationship with Jesus, he was befriended by a group of Christian teens. Although most of the time his buddies were generous, winsome, and nonjudgmental, David witnessed one of them lie to his girlfriend. Feeling convicted, the young man later confessed and asked for her forgiveness. Reflecting on this, David said that the incident drew him closer to his Christian friends. He realized that they needed grace, just as he did. We don¡¯t have to act like we¡¯re perfect with the people we know. It¡¯s okay to be honest about our mistakes and struggles. The apostle Paul openly referred to himself as the worst of all sinners (1 Tim.1:15). He also described his wrestling match with sin in Romans 7, where he said, ¡°I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out¡±(v.18). Unfortunately, the opposite was also true: ¡°The evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing¡±(v.19). Being open about our struggles puts us on the same level with every other human alive—which is right where we belong! However, because of Jesus Christ, our sin will not follow us into eternity. Dear Jesus, I worship You as the only perfect human ever to live. Thank You for making it possible for me to have victory over sin.

The only difference between Christians and everyone else is forgiveness.

Romans 7:14–25

[14] For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.
[15] For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.
[16] If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good.
[17] But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
[18] For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.
[19] For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.
[20] Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
[21] I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.
[22] For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man.
[23] But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
[24] O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
[25] I thank God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

사랑하는 예수님, 이 땅에 살았던 모든 사람들 가운데 유일하게 완벽하신 분으로 주님을 경배합니다. 제가 죄를 이기고 승리하게 해주시는 주님께 감사드립니다.

그리스도인들이 다른 모든 사람들과 다른 유일한 차이점은 용서이다.

로마서 7:14–25

[14] 우리가 율법은 신령한 줄 알거니와 나는 육신에 속하여 죄 아래에 팔렸도다
[15] 내가 행하는 것을 내가 알지 못하노니 곧 내가 원하는 것은 행하지 아니하고 도리어 미워하는 것을 행함이라
[16] 만일 내가 원하지 아니하는 그것을 행하면 내가 이로써 율법이 선한 것을 시인하노니
[17] 이제는 그것을 행하는 자가 내가 아니요 내 속에 거하는 죄니라
[18] 내 속 곧 내 육신에 선한 것이 거하지 아니하는 줄을 아노니 원함은 내게 있으나 선을 행하는 것은 없노라
[19] 내가 원하는 바 선은 행하지 아니하고 도리어 원하지 아니하는 바 악을 행하는도다
[20] 만일 내가 원하지 아니하는 그것을 하면 이를 행하는 자는 내가 아니요 내 속에 거하는 죄니라
[21] 그러므로 내가 한 법을 깨달았노니 곧 선을 행하기 원하는 나에게 악이 함께 있는 것이로다
[22] 내 속사람으로는 하나님의 법을 즐거워하되
[23] 내 지체 속에서 한 다른 법이 내 마음의 법과 싸워 내 지체 속에 있는 죄의 법으로 나를 사로잡는 것을 보는도다
[24] 오호라 나는 곤고한 사람이로다 이 사망의 몸에서 누가 나를 건져내랴
[25] 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님께 감사하리로다 그런즉 내 자신이 마음으로는 하나님의 법을 육신으로는 죄의 법을 섬기노라
