[ Ephesians 2:1 - 2:10 ] - hymn 552 We are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life. - Ephesians 2:10 nrsv I was struck by a phrase I heard quoted from a contemporary Bible translation. When I Googled the phrase ¡°our way of life¡± to locate the passage, many of the results focused on things people felt were threatening their expected way of living. Prominent among the perceived threats were climate change, terrorism, and government policies. What really is our way of life as followers of Jesus? I wondered. Is it what makes us comfortable, secure, and happy, or is it something more? Paul reminded the Christians in Ephesus of the remarkable way God had transformed their lives. ¡°God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved¡±(Eph.2:4-5 nrsv). The result is that we are ¡°created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life¡±(v.10 nrsv). Doing good works, helping others, giving, loving, and serving in Jesus¡¯s name—these are to be our way of life. They are not optional activities for believers, but the very reason God has given us life in Christ. In a changing world, God has called and empowered us to pursue a life that reaches out to others and honors Him. — David McCasland		[ 에베소서 2:1 - 2:10 ] - 찬송가 552 장 우리는 그가 만드신 바라 그리스도 예수 안에서 선한 일을 위하여 지으심을 받은 자니 이 일은 하나님이 전에 예비하사 우리로 그 가운데서 행하게 하려 하심이니라 - 에베소서 2:10 현대어로 번역된 성경에서 인용한 한 구절을 듣고는 내 마음이 울렸습니다. 나는 “우리 삶의 방식”이라는 그 구절이 성경 어디에 있는지 알아보려고 인터넷으로 검색해봤습니다. 검색 결과의 대부분은 사람들이 그들이 기대하는 삶의 방식에 위협을 준다고 느끼는 것들에 초점이 맞춰져 있었습니다. 그 위협들 중에 두드러지는 것이 기후 변화와 테러, 정부 정책 같은 것이었습니다. ‘주님을 따르는 사람들의 삶의 방식은 과연 어떤 것일까?’ 나는 궁금했습니다. 우리를 편안하고 안전하고 행복하게 해주는 것일까? 아니면 그보다 더 많은 것을 가져다주는 또 다른 무엇일까? 바울은 에베소의 그리스도인들에게 하나님이 놀라운 방식으로 그들의 삶을 변화시켰다는 것을 일깨워주었습니다. “긍휼이 풍성하신 하나님이 우리를 사랑하신 그 큰 사랑을 인하여 허물로 죽은 우리를 그리스도와 함께 살리셨고 (너희는 은혜로 구원을 받은 것이라)”(엡 2:4-5). 그 결과 우리는 “선한 일을 하게 하시려고, 하나님께서 그리스도 예수 안에서 우리를 만드셨습니다. 하나님께서 이렇게 미리 준비하신 것은, 우리가 선한 일을 하며 살아가게 하시려는 것입니다”(10절, 새번역). 주님의 이름으로 선한 일을 하고, 남을 도와주며, 베풀고, 사랑하며, 섬기는 것이 우리의 삶의 방식이 되어야 합니다. 그것들은 신자들이 해도 되고 안 해도 되는 일들이 아니라, 바로 그런 일들 때문에 하나님께서 우리에게 그리스도 안에 있는 생명을 주신 것입니다. 변화하는 이 시대에, 하나님은 우리를 부르시고 능력 주셔서 다른 사람들을 돌보고 하나님을 영화롭게 하는 삶을 살게 하셨습니다.

Father, thank You for the incredible riches of Your love and mercy. You rescued us from our dead way of living and made us alive with Christ.

Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

Ephesians 2:1–10

[1] And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
[2] in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
[3] among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
[4] But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
[5] even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
[6] and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
[7] that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
[8] For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
[9] not of works, lest anyone should boast.
[10] For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

하나님 아버지, 하나님의 무한하신 사랑과 자비에 감사드립니다. 하나님은 우리를 사망의 길에서 건져 구원해주시고 그리스도와 함께 살게 해주셨습니다.

이같이 너희 빛이 사람 앞에 비치게 하여 그들로 너희 착한 행실을 보고 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하라. 마태복음 5:16

에베소서 2:1–10

[1] 그는 허물과 죄로 죽었던 너희를 살리셨도다
[2] 그 때에 너희는 그 가운데서 행하여 이 세상 풍조를 따르고 공중의 권세 잡은 자를 따랐으니 곧 지금 불순종의 아들들 가운데서 역사하는 영이라
[3] 전에는 우리도 다 그 가운데서 우리 육체의 욕심을 따라 지내며 육체와 마음의 원하는 것을 하여 다른 이들과 같이 본질상 진노의 자녀이었더니
[4] 긍휼이 풍성하신 하나님이 우리를 사랑하신 그 큰 사랑을 인하여
[5] 허물로 죽은 우리를 그리스도와 함께 살리셨고 (너희는 은혜로 구원을 받은 것이라)
[6] 또 함께 일으키사 그리스도 예수 안에서 함께 하늘에 앉히시니
[7] 이는 그리스도 예수 안에서 우리에게 자비하심으로써 그 은혜의 지극히 풍성함을 오는 여러 세대에 나타내려 하심이라
[8] 너희는 그 은혜에 의하여 믿음으로 말미암아 구원을 받았으니 이것은 너희에게서 난 것이 아니요 하나님의 선물이라
[9] 행위에서 난 것이 아니니 이는 누구든지 자랑하지 못하게 함이라
[10] 우리는 그가 만드신 바라 그리스도 예수 안에서 선한 일을 위하여 지으심을 받은 자니 이 일은 하나님이 전에 예비하사 우리로 그 가운데서 행하게 하려 하심이니라
