Tears and Laughter		눈물과 웃음
[ Ezra 3:7 - 3:13 ] - hymn 413 No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy from the sound of weeping. - Ezra 3:13 Last year at a retreat I reconnected with some friends I hadn¡¯t seen in a long time. I laughed with them as we enjoyed the reunion, but I also cried because I knew how much I had missed them. On the last day of our time together we celebrated the Lord¡¯s Supper. More smiles and tears! I rejoiced over the grace of God, who had given me eternal life and these beautiful days with my friends. But again I cried as I was sobered by what it had cost Jesus to deliver me from my sin. I thought about Ezra and that wonderful day in Jerusalem. The exiles had returned from captivity and had just completed rebuilding the foundation of the Lord¡¯s temple. The people sang for joy, but some of the older priests cried (Ezra 3:10–12). They were likely remembering Solomon¡¯s temple and its former glory. Or were they grieving over their sins that had led to the captivity in the first place? Sometimes when we see God at work we experience a wide range of emotions, including joy when we see God¡¯s wonders and sorrow as we remember our sins and the need for His sacrifice. The Israelites were singing and weeping, the noise was heard far away (v.13). May our emotions be expressions of our love and worship to our Lord, and may they touch those around us. — Keila Ochoa		[ 에스라 3:7 - 3:13 ] - 찬송가 413 장 즐거이 부르는 소리와 통곡하는 소리를 백성들이 분간하지 못하였더라 - 에스라 3:13 작년에 갔던 한 수련회에서 나는 오랫동안 보지 못했던 친구들과 다시 만나게 되었습니다. 너무나 그리워하던 친구들이었기에 재회의 기쁨을 누리며 그들과 함께 웃고 또 울었습니다. 수련회의 마지막 날에 우리는 함께 성찬을 나누었습니다. 더 많은 눈물과 웃음이 솟아났지요! 내게 영원한 생명을 주셨고 또 친구들과의 이 아름다운 만남의 날들을 주신 하나님의 은혜로 너무 기쁘면서도, 나를 죄에서 구하시려고 예수님께서 치르신 대가로 인해 마음이 가라앉아 다시 눈물을 흘렸습니다. 나는 에스라와 기쁨이 넘쳤던 예루살렘의 그날에 대해 생각해보았습니다. 이스라엘의 포로들은 유배지로부터 돌아와 성전 기초의 재건 작업을 방금 마쳤습니다. 백성들은 기쁨으로 노래했지만 어떤 몇몇 연로한 제사장들은 눈물을 흘렸습니다(스 3:10-12). 아마도 그들은 솔로몬 왕의 성전과 영화롭던 그 성전의 예전의 모습을 회상했던 듯합니다. 그렇지 않다면, 애초에 그들을 포로로 끌려가게 만든 죄에 대하여 슬퍼하고 있었던 것은 아닐까요? 때로 우리는 하나님의 역사하심을 보며 여러 가지 다양한 감정을 느낍니다. 하나님의 놀라우심을 볼 때에는 기쁨을, 그리고 우리의 죄와 그로 인해 하나님의 희생이 필요했던 것을 기억할 때에는 슬픔을 느낍니다. 이스라엘 백성들이 즐거이 노래하며 우는 소리가 먼 곳까지 들렸습니다(13절). 우리의 감정도 주님을 향한 사랑과 경배를 표현하는 것이 되어, 그것이 우리 이웃 사람들의 마음에도 그대로 전해질 수 있기를 바랍니다.

Lord, You welcome our sorrow and our joy, our tears and our laughter. We bring all of our emotions in their raw honesty to You. May we praise You with our whole being.

Both tears and smiles bring God praise.

Ezra 3:7–13

[7] They also gave money to the masons and the carpenters, and food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre to bring cedar logs from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the permission which they had from Cyrus king of Persia.
[8] Now in the second month of the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all those who had come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, began work and appointed the Levites from twenty years old and above to oversee the work of the house of the LORD.
[9] Then Jeshua with his sons and brothers, Kadmiel with his sons, and the sons of Judah, arose as one to oversee those working on the house of God: the sons of Henadad with their sons and their brethren the Levites.
[10] When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests stood in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the LORD, according to the ordinance of David king of Israel.
[11] And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the LORD: "For He is good, For His mercy endures forever toward Israel." Then all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.
[12] But many of the priests and Levites and heads of the fathers' houses, old men who had seen the first temple, wept with a loud voice when the foundation of this temple was laid before their eyes. Yet many shouted aloud for joy,
[13] so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people, for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the sound was heard afar off.

주님, 주님은 우리의 슬픔과 기쁨, 우리의 눈물과 웃음을 모두 받으십니다. 있는 그대로의 우리의 모든 감정을 주님께 내놓습니다. 우리의 모든 것으로 주님을 찬양하게 하소서.

기쁨과 슬픔 모두 다 하나님을 찬양하는 도구이다.

에스라 3:7–13

[7] 이에 석수와 목수에게 돈을 주고 또 시돈 사람과 두로 사람에게 먹을 것과 마실 것과 기름을 주고 바사 왕 고레스의 명령대로 백향목을 레바논에서 욥바 해변까지 운송하게 하였더라
[8] 예루살렘에 있는 하나님의 성전에 이른 지 이 년 둘째 달에 스알디엘의 아들 스룹바벨과 요사닥의 아들 예수아와 다른 형제 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 무릇 사로잡혔다가 예루살렘에 돌아온 자들이 공사를 시작하고 이십 세 이상의 레위 사람들을 세워 여호와의 성전 공사를 감독하게 하매
[9] 이에 예수아와 그의 아들들과 그의 형제들과 갓미엘과 그의 아들들과 유다 자손과 헤나닷 자손과 그의 형제 레위 사람들이 일제히 일어나 하나님의 성전 일꾼들을 감독하니라
[10] 건축자가 여호와의 성전의 기초를 놓을 때에 제사장들은 예복을 입고 나팔을 들고 아삽 자손 레위 사람들은 제금을 들고 서서 이스라엘 왕 다윗의 규례대로 여호와를 찬송하되
[11] 찬양으로 화답하며 여호와께 감사하여 이르되 주는 지극히 선하시므로 그의 인자하심이 이스라엘에게 영원하시도다 하니 모든 백성이 여호와의 성전 기초가 놓임을 보고 여호와를 찬송하며 큰 소리로 즐거이 부르며
[12] 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 나이 많은 족장들은 첫 성전을 보았으므로 이제 이 성전의 기초가 놓임을 보고 대성통곡하였으나 여러 사람은 기쁨으로 크게 함성을 지르니
[13] 백성이 크게 외치는 소리가 멀리 들리므로 즐거이 부르는 소리와 통곡하는 소리를 백성들이 분간하지 못하였더라
