[ Matthew 5:43 - 5:48 ] - hymn 254 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. - Matthew 5:48 For years I thought of the Sermon on the Mount (Matt.5–7) as a blueprint for human behavior, a standard no one could possibly meet. How could I have missed the true meaning? Jesus spoke these words not to frustrate us, but to tell us what God is like. Why should we love our enemies? Because our merciful Father causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good. Why store up treasures in heaven? Because the Father lives there and will lavishly reward us. Why live without fear and worry? Because the same God who clothes the lilies and the grass of the field has promised to take care of us. Why pray? If an earthly father gives his son bread or fish, how much more will the Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask? Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount (Matt.5–7) not only to explain God¡¯s ideal toward which we should never stop striving but also to show that in this life none of us will ever reach that ideal. Before God, we all stand on level ground: murderers and tantrum-throwers, adulterers and lusters, thieves and coveters. We are all desperate, and that is the only state appropriate to a human being who wants to know God. Having fallen from the absolute ideal, we have nowhere to land but in the safety net of absolute grace. — Philip Yancey		[ 마태복음 5:43 - 5:48 ] - 찬송가 254 장 그러므로 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지의 온전하심과 같이 너희도 온전하라 - 마태복음 5:48 나는 여러 해 동안 산상수훈(마 5-7장)을 인간 행동의 한 청사진으로, 아무도 도달할 수 없는 하나의 기준으로만 여겨왔습니다. 왜 그 진정한 의미를 깨닫지 못했는지요? 예수님은 우리를 좌절시키기 위해서가 아니라 하나님이 어떤 분이신지 우리에게 알려주시기 위해 이 말씀을 하셨습니다. 왜 우리는 우리의 원수를 사랑해야 할까요? 그것은 우리의 자비하신 아버지께서 그분의 태양을 선한 자에게나 악한 자에게 똑같이 뜨게 하시기 때문입니다. 왜 보물을 천국에 쌓아두어야 할까요? 하나님 아버지께서 거기에 살고 계시고 우리에게 분에 넘치도록 상을 주실 것이기 때문입니다. 왜 걱정이나 근심 없이 살아야 할까요? 왜냐하면 들의 풀과 백합화에 옷을 입히시는 하나님이 우리도 돌봐주신다고 약속하셨기 때문입니다. 왜 기도해야 할까요? 육신의 아버지도 자신의 아들에게 빵과 생선을 주는데, 하물며 하늘에 계신 아버지는 구하는 자에게 얼마든지 더 주시지 않겠습니까? 예수님은 산상수훈(마 5-7장)에서 우리가 끝까지 힘써야 할 하나님의 이상을 설명하실 뿐 아니라, 우리가 이 땅에 사는 동안은 아무도 그 이상에 도달할 수 없다는 것을 보여주셨습니다. 하나님 앞에 우리 모두는 살인자나 화를 참지 못하는 자, 간음한 자, 호색하는 자, 도둑, 혹은 남의 것을 탐내는 자로서 가장 낮은 곳에 처해 있습니다. 우리 모두가 처한 절망적 상태, 그 상태가 바로 하나님을 알고자 하는 인간에게 가장 적합한 상태입니다. 하나님의 절대적인 이상에서 떨어졌기 때문에 우리는 절대적인 은혜의 안전망 이외는 어디에도 설 자리가 없습니다.

Dear Lord, I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I believe that You died on the cross to pay the penalty for my sin. You did what I could not do for myself, and in humility I accept Your gift of grace. Help me to live a life that is pleasing to You.

Only God can transform a sinful soul into a masterpiece of grace.

Matthew 5:43–48

[43] "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
[44] "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
[45] "that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
[46] "For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
[47] "And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?
[48] "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

사랑하는 주님, 나는 죄인이오니 주님의 용서가 필요합니다. 주님께서 나의 죄 값을 치르기 위해 십자가에서 죽으셨다는 것을 믿습니다. 주님은 내가 나 스스로를 위해 할 수 없었던 일을 하셨습니다. 그래서 주님의 은혜의 선물을 겸손히 받아들입니다. 주님을 기쁘게 하는

오직 하나님만이 죄로 물든 영혼을 은혜의 걸작으로 변화시킬 수 있다.

마태복음 5:43–48

[43] 또 네 이웃을 사랑하고 네 원수를 미워하라 하였다는 것을 너희가 들었으나
[44] 나는 너희에게 이르노니 너희 원수를 사랑하며 너희를 박해하는 자를 위하여 기도하라
[45] 이같이 한즉 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지의 아들이 되리니 이는 하나님이 그 해를 악인과 선인에게 비추시며 비를 의로운 자와 불의한 자에게 내려주심이라
[46] 너희가 너희를 사랑하는 자를 사랑하면 무슨 상이 있으리요 세리도 이같이 아니하느냐
[47] 또 너희가 너희 형제에게만 문안하면 남보다 더하는 것이 무엇이냐 이방인들도 이같이 아니하느냐
[48] 그러므로 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지의 온전하심과 같이 너희도 온전하라
