Ambassador of Love		사랑의 대사
[ John 3:9 - 3:21 ] - hymn 421 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. - John 3:17 In my work as a chaplain, some people occasionally ask if I am willing to give them some additional spiritual help. While I¡¯m happy to spend time with anyone who asks for help, I often find myself doing more learning than teaching. This was especially true when one painfully honest new Christian said to me with resignation, ¡°I don¡¯t think it¡¯s a good idea for me to read the Bible. The more I read what God expects from me, the more I judge others who aren¡¯t doing what it says.¡± As he said this, I realized that I was at least partly responsible for instilling this judgmental spirit in him. At that time, one of the first things I did with those new to faith in Jesus was to introduce them to things they should no longer be doing. In other words, instead of showing them God¡¯s love and letting the Holy Spirit reshape them, I urged them to ¡°behave like a believer.¡± Now I was gaining a new appreciation for John 3:16-17. Jesus¡¯ invitation to believe in Him in verse 16 is followed by these words. ¡°For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.¡± Jesus didn¡¯t come to condemn us. But by giving these new Christians a checklist of behaviors, I was teaching them to condemn themselves, which then led them to judge others. Instead of being agents of condemnation, we are to be ambassadors of God¡¯s love and mercy.		[ 요한복음 3:9 - 3:21 ] - 찬송가 421 장 하나님이 그 아들을 세상에 보내신 것은 세상을 심판하려 하심이 아니요 그로 말미암아 세상이 구원을 받게 하려 하심이라 - 요한복음 3:17 내 직업이 목사이기 때문에, 사람들이 때때로 영적도움을 좀 더 줄 수 있는지 물어옵니다. 도움을 요청하는 사람과 기꺼이 시간을 보내는 동안, 나는 종종 내가 가르치는 것보다 배우는 것이 더 많다는 것을 알게 됩니다. 애처로울 만큼 솔직한 한 새 신자가 체념하며 다음과 같이 말했을 때 특히 그랬습니다. “나는 성경을 읽는 것이 좋은 생각이 아닌 것 같습니다. 하나님이 나에게 무엇을 기대하시는지 읽으면 읽을수록, 성경대로 행동하지 않는 사람을 더 비판하게 됩니다.” 그가 그렇게 말했을 때, 나는 그에게 이런 비판의 영을 심어준 데 대해 나에게도 부분적으로 책임이 있다는 것을 깨달았습니다. 그 당시 내가 예수님을 새로 믿게 된 사람들에게 우선적으로 했던 일 중의 하나가 그들이 더 이상 해서는 안 될 일들을 소개하는 것이었기 때문입니다. 다시 말해, 그들에게 하나님의 사랑을 보여주고 성령님이 그들을 새롭게 빚으시도록 하는 대신, 그들에게 “믿는 사람처럼 행동하라”고 강권했던 것입니다. 이제 나는 요한복음 3:16-17의 말씀을 새롭게 이해하게 되었습니다. 예수님을 믿으라는 16절의 주님의 초청은 다음의 글로 바로 연결됩니다. “하나님이 그 아들을 세상에 보내신 것은 세상을 심판하려 하심이 아니요 그로 말미암아 세상이 구원을 받게 하려 하심이라.” 예수님은 우리를 정죄하러 오신 것이 아니었는데, 나는 새 신자들에게 행실에 대한 체크리스트를 제공하여 그들로 자신을 정죄하고 나아가 다른 사람을 비판하게 만들었던 것입니다. 우리는 정죄하는 사람이 되기보다는 하나님의 사랑과 자비의 대사가 되어야 합니다.

Father, help me not to judge others today. Let me learn this until it changes me into someone more like You.

If Jesus didn¡¯t come to condemn the world, that¡¯s probably not our mission either!

John 3:9-21

[9] Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?"
[10] Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?
[11] "Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness.
[12] "If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
[13] "No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.
[14] "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
[15] "that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
[16] "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
[17] "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
[18] "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
[19] "And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
[20] "For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
[21] "But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."

하나님 아버지, 오늘 다른 사람들을 비판하지 않게 도와주소서. 제가 주님을 닮은 사람이 될 때까지 그것을 배우게 해주소서.

만약 예수님이 세상을 정죄하러 오시지 않았다면, 우리 또한 그렇게 해서는 안 된다.

요한복음 3:9-21

[9] 니고데모가 대답하여 이르되 어찌 그러한 일이 있을 수 있나이까
[10] 예수께서 그에게 대답하여 이르시되 너는 이스라엘의 선생으로서 이러한 것들을 알지 못하느냐
[11] 진실로 진실로 네게 이르노니 우리는 아는 것을 말하고 본 것을 증언하노라 그러나 너희가 우리의 증언을 받지 아니하는도다
[12] 내가 땅의 일을 말하여도 너희가 믿지 아니하거든 하물며 하늘의 일을 말하면 어떻게 믿겠느냐
[13] 하늘에서 내려온 자 곧 인자 외에는 하늘에 올라간 자가 없느니라
[14] 모세가 광야에서 뱀을 든 것 같이 인자도 들려야 하리니
[15] 이는 그를 믿는 자마다 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이니라
[16] 하나님이 세상을 이처럼 사랑하사 독생자를 주셨으니 이는 그를 믿는 자마다 멸망하지 않고 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이라
[17] 하나님이 그 아들을 세상에 보내신 것은 세상을 심판하려 하심이 아니요 그로 말미암아 세상이 구원을 받게 하려 하심이라
[18] 그를 믿는 자는 심판을 받지 아니하는 것이요 믿지 아니하는 자는 하나님의 독생자의 이름을 믿지 아니하므로 벌써 심판을 받은 것이니라
[19] 그 정죄는 이것이니 곧 빛이 세상에 왔으되 사람들이 자기 행위가 악하므로 빛보다 어둠을 더 사랑한 것이니라
[20] 악을 행하는 자마다 빛을 미워하여 빛으로 오지 아니하나니 이는 그 행위가 드러날까 함이요
[21] 진리를 따르는 자는 빛으로 오나니 이는 그 행위가 하나님 안에서 행한 것임을 나타내려 함이라 하시니라
