No Greater Joy		최고의 기쁨
[ 3 John 1:1 - 1:8 ] - hymn 220 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. - 3 John 1:4 Bob and Evon Potter were a fun-loving couple with three young sons when their life took a wonderful new direction. In 1956 they attended a Billy Graham Crusade in Oklahoma City and gave their lives to Christ. Before long, they wanted to reach out to others to share their faith and the truth about Christ, so they opened their home every Saturday night to high school and college students who had a desire to study the Bible. A friend invited me and I became a regular at the Potters¡¯ house. This was a serious Bible study that included lesson preparation and memorizing Scripture. Surrounded by an atmosphere of friendship, joy, and laughter, we challenged each other and the Lord changed our lives during those days. I stayed in touch with the Potters over the years and received many cards and letters from Bob who always signed them with these words: ¡°I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth¡±(3 John 1:4). Like John writing to his ¡°dear friend Gaius¡±(v.1), Bob encouraged everyone who crossed his path to keep walking with the Lord. A few years ago I attended Bob¡¯s memorial service. It was a joyful occasion filled with people still walking the road of faith—all because of a young couple who opened their home and their hearts to help others find the Lord.		[ 요한3서 1:1 - 1:8 ] - 찬송가 220 장 내가 내 자녀들이 진리 안에서 행한다 함을 듣는 것보다 더 기쁜 일이 없도다 - 요한3서 1:4 세 명의 어린 아들과 함께 재미있게 살고 있던 밥과 에본 포터 부부에게 놀라운 새로운 인생의 전환점이 찾아왔습니다. 그들은 1956년 오클라호마시티에서 열린 빌리 그래함의 부흥집회에 참석한 후 그들의 삶을 예수님께 드렸습니다. 얼마 지나지 않아 이들 부부는 그들의 믿음과 예수님에 관한 진리를 다른 사람들에게 알리고 싶어, 성경을 배우고 싶어 하는 고등학생과 대학생들을 위해 토요일 저녁마다 그들의 집을 성경공부 장소로 제공했습니다. 한 친구가 나를 초대해주어서 나도 포터가족의 성경공부에 정기적으로 참석하게 되었습니다. 이 성경공부는 아주 진지해서 예습도 해야 하고 성경구절도 암송해야 했습니다. 우애가 넘치고, 웃으며 즐겁게 공부하는 분위기 속에서 성경공부를 하는 동안, 우리는 서로를 격려했으며 주님께서는 우리의 삶을 변화시켜 주셨습니다. 나는 포터 부부와 그 후로도 오랫동안 연락을 주고받았고, 밥으로부터 많은 편지와 카드를 받았습니다. 밥은 거기에 자기 이름을 쓰면서 “내가 내 자녀들이 진리 안에서 행한다 함을 듣는 것보다 더 기쁜 일이 없도다”(요삼 1:4)라는 성구를 항상 함께 썼습니다. 마치 요한이 “사랑하는 가이오”(1절)에게 쓰고 있는 것처럼, 밥도 그가 만나는 사람 누구에게나 주님과 동행할 것을 권했습니다. 몇 년 전 나는 밥의 장례식에 참석했습니다. 장례식은 아직도 믿음의 길을 걷고 있는 사람들로 가득한 즐거운 모임이었습니다. 그것은 모두 한 젊은 부부가 그들의 집과 마음을 열어 다른 사람들이 주님을 찾도록 도와준 덕분이었습니다.

Thank You, Lord, for the people who have encouraged me to keep walking in Your truth. May I honor them by helping someone along that road today.

3 John 1:1-8

[1] THE ELDER, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth:
[2] Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
[3] For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth.
[4] I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
[5] Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the brethren and for strangers,
[6] who have borne witness of your love before the church. If you send them forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God, you will do well,
[7] because they went forth for His name's sake, taking nothing from the Gentiles.
[8] We therefore ought to receive such, that we may become fellow workers for the truth.

주님, 주님의 진리 가운데 계속 살아가도록 격려해준 사람들을 만나게 해주셔서 감사합니다. 나도 오늘 다른 사람들이 주님의 길을 걷도록 도움으로써 그들을 명예롭게 해드리고 싶습니다.

요한3서 1:1-8

[1] 장로인 나는 사랑하는 가이오 곧 내가 참으로 사랑하는 자에게 편지하노라
[2] 사랑하는 자여 네 영혼이 잘됨 같이 네가 범사에 잘되고 강건하기를 내가 간구하노라
[3] 형제들이 와서 네게 있는 진리를 증언하되 네가 진리 안에서 행한다 하니 내가 심히 기뻐하노라
[4] 내가 내 자녀들이 진리 안에서 행한다 함을 듣는 것보다 더 기쁜 일이 없도다
[5] 사랑하는 자여 네가 무엇이든지 형제 곧 나그네 된 자들에게 행하는 것은 신실한 일이니
[6] 그들이 교회 앞에서 너의 사랑을 증언하였느니라 네가 하나님께 합당하게 그들을 전송하면 좋으리로다
[7] 이는 그들이 주의 이름을 위하여 나가서 이방인에게 아무 것도 받지 아니함이라
[8] 그러므로 우리가 이같은 자들을 영접하는 것이 마땅하니 이는 우리로 진리를 위하여 함께 일하는 자가 되게 하려 함이라
