[ Isaiah 37:30 - 37:38 ] - hymn 585 Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Lord, are the only God. - Isaiah 37:20 It began as a distant, foreboding hum, then grew into an ominous, earth-rattling din. Soon hundreds of tanks and thousands of enemy infantrymen swarmed into view of the badly outnumbered soldiers in Finland. Assessing the murderous wave, an anonymous Finn lent some perspective. Courageously, he wondered aloud about the enemy: ¡°Where will we fi-nd room to bury them all?¡± Some 2,600 years before Finland showed such pluck in that World War II battle, an anxious Judean citizenry reacted quite differently to their own overwhelming situation. The Assyrian armies had trapped the people of Jerusalem inside its walls, where they faced the hopeless prospect of a starvation-inducing siege. Hezekiah nearly panicked. But then he prayed, ¡°Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth¡±(Isa.37:16). Through the prophet Isaiah, the Lord answered with strong words for Assyria¡¯s King Sennacherib. ¡°Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel!¡±(v.23). Then God comforted Jerusalem. ¡°I will defend this city and save it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant!¡±(v.35). The Lord defeated Sennacherib and destroyed the Assyrian army (vv.36-38). No matter what dangers loom on your horizon today, the God of Hezekiah and Isaiah still reigns. In what ways has God shown Himself strong in the past?

God is greater than our greatest problem.

Isaiah 37:30-38

[30] "This shall be a sign to you: You shall eat this year such as grows of itself, And the second year what springs from the same; Also in the third year sow and reap, Plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them.
[31] And the remnant who have escaped of the house of Judah Shall again take root downward, And bear fruit upward.
[32] For out of Jerusalem shall go a remnant, And those who escape from Mount Zion. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
[33] "Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king of Assyria: 'He shall not come into this city, Nor shoot an arrow there, Nor come before it with shield, Nor build a siege mound against it.
[34] By the way that he came, By the same shall he return; And he shall not come into this city,' Says the LORD.
[35] 'For I will defend this city, to save it For My own sake and for My servant David's sake.'"
[36] Then the angel of the LORD went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses--all dead.
[37] So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went away, returned home, and remained at Nineveh.
[38] Now it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him down with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Then Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.

과거에 어떻게 하나님께서 강하심을 보여주셨습니까?

[31] 유다 족속 중에 피하여 남은 자는 다시 아래로 뿌리를 박고 위로 열매를 맺으리니
[32] 이는 남은 자가 예루살렘에서 나오며 피하는 자가 시온 산에서 나올 것임이라 만군의 여호와의 열심이 이를 이루시리이다
[33] 그러므로 여호와께서 앗수르 왕에 대하여 이같이 이르시되 그가 이 성에 이르지 못하며 화살 하나도 이리로 쏘지 못하며 방패를 가지고 성에 가까이 오지도 못하며 흉벽을 쌓고 치지도 못할 것이요
[34] 그가 오던 길 곧 그 길로 돌아가고 이 성에 이르지 못하리라 나 여호와의 말이니라
[35] 대저 내가 나를 위하며 내 종 다윗을 위하여 이 성을 보호하며 구원하리라 하셨나이다 하니라
[36] 여호와의 사자가 나가서 앗수르 진중에서 십팔만 오천인을 쳤으므로 아침에 일찍이 일어나 본즉 시체뿐이라
[37] 이에 앗수르의 산헤립 왕이 떠나 돌아가서 니느웨에 거주하더니
[38] 자기 신 니스록의 신전에서 경배할 때에 그의 아들 아드람멜렉과 사레셀이 그를 칼로 죽이고 아라랏 땅으로 도망하였으므로 그의 아들 에살핫돈이 이어 왕이 되니라
