[ 1 Samuel 16:1 - 16:7 ] - hymn 289 The Lord looks at the heart. - 1 Samuel 16:7 Retired physicist Arie van¡¯t Riet creates works of art in an unusual way. He arranges plants and deceased animals in various compositions and then x-rays them. He scans the developed x-rays into a computer and then adds color to certain parts of his pictures. His artwork reveals the inner complexity of flowers, fish, birds, reptiles, and monkeys. An inside view of something is often more fascinating and more significant than an exterior view. At first glance, Samuel thought Eliab looked like he could be Israel¡¯s next king (1 Sam.16:6). But God warned Samuel not to look at Eliab¡¯s physical traits. He told Samuel, ¡°People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart¡±(v.7). God chose David, instead of Eliab, to be Israel¡¯s next king. When God looks at us, He is more interested in our hearts than our height, the state of our soul than the structure of our face. He doesn¡¯t see us as too old, too young, too small, or too big. He zeroes in on the things that matter—our response to His love for us and our concern for other people (Matt.22:37-39). Second Chronicles 6:30 says that God alone knows the human heart. When the God who has done so much for us looks at our heart, what does He see? - Jennifer Benson Schuldt		[ 사무엘상 16:1 - 16:7 ] - 찬송가 289 장 여호와는 중심을 보느니라 - 사무엘상 16:7 은퇴한 물리학자 아리 밴트 리엣은 색다른 방법으로 예술작품을 만듭니다. 그는 식물들과 죽은 동물들을 다양한 구성으로 배치하고 엑스레이 촬영을 합니다. 그런 다음 현상한 엑스레이 이미지를 컴퓨터로 스캔한 후 그림의 일부분에 색을 입힙니다. 그의 작품은 꽃, 물고기, 새, 파충류, 그리고 원숭이 같은 것들의 내면의 복잡성을 보여줍니다. 때로는 어떤 것의 내면 모습이 외면의 모습보다 훨씬 더 흥미롭고 의미 있기도 합니다. 사무엘은 엘리압을 처음 보고 이스라엘의 다음 왕이 될 수 있을 것 같다고 생각했습니다(삼상 16:6). 하지만 하나님은 사무엘에게 엘리압의 겉모습을 보지 말라고 경고하시며, “사람은 외모를 보거니와 나 여호와는 중심을 보느니라”(7절)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 하나님은 엘리압 대신 다윗을 이스라엘의 다음 왕으로 선택하셨습니다. 하나님이 우리를 보실 때, 우리의 키보다는 마음을, 얼굴보다는 영의 상태에 더 관심을 두십니다. 우리가 너무 나이 들었는지 어린지, 혹은 너무 작은지 큰지를 보시는 것이 아닙니다. 주님은 우리를 향한 그분의 사랑에 대한 우리의 반응, 그리고 다른 사람들에 대한 우리의 관심과 같은 보다 중요한 일에 주의를 기울이십니다(마 22:37-39). 역대하 6장 30 절에는 하나님만이 사람의 마음을 아신다고 기록되어 있습니다. 우리를 위해 아주 많은 것을 행하신 하나님께서 우리의 마음을 보신다면, 하나님은 과연 무엇을 보실까요?

Dear God, help me to value what You value. As I follow Your example, I pray that You will be pleased with what You see in my heart.

The true measure of a person is what¡¯s in the heart.

1 Samuel 16:1-7

[1] Now the LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons."
[2] And Samuel said, "How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me." And the LORD said, "Take a heifer with you, and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.'
[3] "Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you."
[4] So Samuel did what the LORD said, and went to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, "Do you come peaceably?"
[5] And he said, "Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice." Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons, and invited them to the sacrifice.
[6] So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and said, "Surely the LORD'S anointed is before Him."
[7] But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

사랑하는 하나님, 하나님께서 귀하게 여기시는 것을 저도 귀하게 여기도록 도와주소서. 주님의 모습을 따를 때 주께서 저의 내면을 보고 기뻐하시길 기도합니다.

사람됨의 진정한 척도는 그 마음 속에 무엇이 담겨 있느냐 하는 것이다.

사무엘상 16:1-7

[1] 여호와께서 사무엘에게 이르시되 내가 이미 사울을 버려 이스라엘 왕이 되지 못하게 하였거늘 네가 그를 위하여 언제까지 슬퍼하겠느냐 너는 뿔에 기름을 채워 가지고 가라 내가 너를 베들레헴 사람 이새에게로 보내리니 이는 내가 그의 아들 중에서 한 왕을 보았느니라 하시는지라
[2] 사무엘이 이르되 내가 어찌 갈 수 있으리이까 사울이 들으면 나를 죽이리이다 하니 여호와께서 이르시되 너는 암송아지를 끌고 가서 말하기를 내가 여호와께 제사를 드리러 왔다 하고
[3] 이새를 제사에 청하라 내가 네게 행할 일을 가르치리니 내가 네게 알게 하는 자에게 나를 위하여 기름을 부을지니라
[4] 사무엘이 여호와의 말씀대로 행하여 베들레헴에 이르매 성읍 장로들이 떨며 그를 영접하여 이르되 평강을 위하여 오시나이까
[5] 이르되 평강을 위함이니라 내가 여호와께 제사하러 왔으니 스스로 성결하게 하고 와서 나와 함께 제사하자 하고 이새와 그의 아들들을 성결하게 하고 제사에 청하니라
[6] 그들이 오매 사무엘이 엘리압을 보고 마음에 이르기를 여호와의 기름 부으실 자가 과연 주님 앞에 있도다 하였더니
[7] 여호와께서 사무엘에게 이르시되 그의 용모와 키를 보지 말라 내가 이미 그를 버렸노라 내가 보는 것은 사람과 같지 아니하니 사람은 외모를 보거니와 나 여호와는 중심을 보느니라 하시더라
