[ 1 Kings 19:19 - 19:21 ] - hymn 331 Whoever loses his life for My sake will fi-nd it. - Matthew 16:25 As a child, my favorite week of the summer was the one I spent at a Christian youth camp. At the end of the week, I¡¯d sit elbow-to-elbow with friends in front of an enormous bonfire. There, we would share what we had learned about God and the Bible and sing. One song I still remember focused on deciding to follow Jesus. The chorus contained an important phrase: ¡°no turning back.¡± When Elisha decided to follow the prophet Elijah, Elisha did something incredible that made it difficult, impossible really, for him to return to his prior occupation of farming. After going home and having a farewell banquet, Elisha ¡°took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them¡±(1 Kings 19:21). Leaving his way of life, he burned up his plowing equipment. He roasted the freshly butchered meat over the blaze and fed everyone present. Then ¡°[Elisha] arose and followed Elijah, and became his servant¡±(v.21). Giving ourselves to God, who deserves our devotion, often comes with a price. At times, it means making difficult decisions about relationships, finances, and living arrangements. However, nothing compares with what we gain when we continue on with Christ. Jesus said, ¡°Whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will fi-nd it¡±(Matt.16:25). - Jennifer Benson Schuldt		[ 열왕기상 19:19 - 19:21 ] - 찬송가 331 장 누구든지 나를 위하여 제 목숨을 잃으면 찾으리라 - 마태복음 16:25 어릴 적 여름방학 때 내가 가장 좋아했던 시간은 바로 청소년 크리스천 캠프 주간이었습니다. 그 주간의 마지막 밤에 우리는 커다란 모닥불 앞에서 친구들과 바짝 붙어 앉아 하나님과 성경에 대해 배웠던 것을 나누기도 하고 찬양을 부르기도 했습니다. 아직도 기억에 남아 있는 노래 하나는 예수님을 따르기로 결심하는 것에 초점을 맞춘 것이었습니다. 그 노래의 후렴에는 “뒤돌아서지 않겠네”라는 중요한 가사가 있었습니다. 엘리사가 엘리야 선지자를 따르기로 결심했을 때, 그는 이전의 본업인 농사 일로 돌아가기 어렵게 만든, 아니 사실 불가능하게 만들어버린 믿기지 않는 일을 했습니다. 그는 집으로 돌아가 송별회를 하면서 “한 겨릿소를 가져다가 잡았습니다”(왕상 19:21). 그가 살아온 방식을 떠나면서 그는 농사에 쓰던 기구를 불살라버리고, 막 잡은 고기를 삶아 거기에 있는 모든 사람들에게 먹게 했습니다. 그리고 “일어나 엘리야를 따르며 수종 들었습니다”(21절). 우리의 헌신을 받으시기에 합당한 하나님께 우리 자신을 드릴 때 종종 그에 대한 대가가 따릅니다. 그것은 때로 사람들과의 관계나 재정, 그리고 삶의 계획 등에서 어려운 결정들을 내려야 하는 것을 의미합니다. 그러나 그리스도와 계속 함께 할 때 얻게 되는 유익은 그 무엇과도 비교할 수 없습니다. 예수님은 “누구든지 제 목숨을 구원하고자 하면 잃을 것이요 누구든지 나를 위하여 제 목숨을 잃으면 찾으리라”(마 16:25)라고 말씀하셨습니다.

Father, help me to see if there¡¯s something You want me to leave behind to follow You completely.

Jesus is looking for fulltime followers.

1 Kings 19:19-21

[19] So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him.
[20] And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, "Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you." And he said to him, "Go back again, for what have I done to you?"
[21] So Elisha turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen's equipment, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah, and became his servant.

하나님 아버지, 온전히 하나님을 따르기 위해 제가 버리기를 원하시는 것이 있는지 알 수 있도록 도와주소서.

예수님은 전적으로 헌신하는 자를 찾으신다.

열왕기상 19:19-21

[19] 엘리야가 거기서 떠나 사밧의 아들 엘리사를 만나니 그가 열두 겨릿소를 앞세우고 밭을 가는데 자기는 열두째 겨릿소와 함께 있더라 엘리야가 그리로 건너가서 겉옷을 그의 위에 던졌더니
[20] 그가 소를 버리고 엘리야에게로 달려가서 이르되 청하건대 나를 내 부모와 입맞추게 하소서 그리한 후에 내가 당신을 따르리이다 엘리야가 그에게 이르되 돌아가라 내가 네게 어떻게 행하였느냐 하니라
[21] 엘리사가 그를 떠나 돌아가서 한 겨릿소를 가져다가 잡고 소의 기구를 불살라 그 고기를 삶아 백성에게 주어 먹게 하고 일어나 엘리야를 따르며 수종 들었더라
