[ Philippians 1:1 - 1:11 ] - hymn 455 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more. - Philippians 1:9 Like many people, when I read a newspaper or magazine I notice the misteaks in grammar and spelling. (You saw that, didn¡¯t you!) I¡¯m not trying to fi-nd errors; they leap off the page at me! My usual reaction is to criticize the publication and the people who produce it. ¡°Why don¡¯t they use ¡®spell check¡¯ or hire a proofreader?¡± You may have a similar experience in your area of expertise. It seems that often, the more we know about something, the more judgmental we become over mistakes. It can infect our relationships with people as well. Yet Philippians 1:9 expresses a different approach. Paul wrote, ¡°And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment.¡± God¡¯s plan is that the more we know and understand, the more we love. Rather than cultivating a critical spirit and pretending we don¡¯t notice or don¡¯t care, our understanding should nourish empathy. Criticism is re-placed by compassion. Instead of our being faultfi-nders, the Lord calls us to be ¡°filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God¡±(v. 11). When the Lord fills our hearts, we can overlook mistakes, hold our criticism, and love others, no matter how much we know about them! - David McCasland		[ 빌립보서 1:1 - 1:11 ] - 찬송가 455 장 내가 기도하노라 너희 사랑을 지식과 모든 총명으로 점점 더 풍성하게 하사 - 빌립보서 1:9 다른 사람들과 마찬가지로 나도 신문이나 잡지를 읽을 때 문법이나 철자가 ‘털린’ 부분을 주목하게 됩니다. (당신도 보셨죠, 아닌가요?) 내가 굳이 실수를 찾으려고 하는 것이 아닌데도 그 페이지에 잘못된 부분이 눈에 두드러지게 툭 튀어나와 보입니다. 이럴 때 나는 보통 “왜 ‘맞춤법 검사기’를 사용하거나 교정하는 사람을 고용하지 않는 걸까?” 하고 그 출판사나 그 간행물을 제작한 사람들을 비판하는 모습을 보입니다. 당신도 아마 당신의 전문 분야에서 비슷한 경험을 했을 것입니다. 우리가 어떤 분야에 대해 더 많이 알면 알수록 실수에 대해 더욱 비판적이 되는 것 같습니다. 이것은 다른 사람과의 관계에도 영향을 끼치게 됩니다. 그러나 빌립보서 1장 9절에서는 이에 대해 좀 다르게 접근하고 있습니다. 바울은 “내가 기도하노라 너희 사랑을 지식과 모든 총명으로 점점 더 풍성하게 하사”라고 기술하고 있습니다. 하나님의 계획은 우리가 더 많이 알고 더 잘 이해할수록 더 사랑하게 하는 데 있습니다. 비판적인 정신을 키우거나 실수를 못 본 척하고 상관치 않는다는 듯이 행동하기 보다는, 우리가 이해할수록 더욱 공감할 수 있게 하는 것입니다. 비판이 긍휼로 대체되는 것입니다. 하나님은 우리가 남의 흠을 잡아내는 사람이 되기보다는 “예수 그리스도로 말미암아 의의 열매가 가득하여 하나님의 영광과 찬송이 되기를”(11절) 원하십니다. 주님이 우리 마음을 가득 채워주실 때, 우리가 다른 사람들에 대해 얼마나 알고 있는지와 상관없이 남의 실수를 눈감아주며 비평하는 마음을 멈추고 그들을 사랑할 수 있게 됩니다!

Philippians 1:1-11

[1] Paul and Timothy, servants of Jesus Christ, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
[2] Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
[3] I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
[4] always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy,
[5] for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,
[6] being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
[7] just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.
[8] For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ.
[9] And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,
[10] that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,
[11] being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

주님, 주님의 은혜로 나의 판단하는 마음을 다른 이들에 대한 주님의 사랑과 연민으로 대체시켜 주소서.

죄를 범하는 것은 인간이고, 용서하는 분은 하나님이시다.

[1] 그리스도 예수의 종 바울과 디모데는 그리스도 예수 안에서 빌립보에 사는 모든 성도와 또한 감독들과 집사들에게 편지하노니
[2] 하나님 우리 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도로부터 은혜와 평강이 너희에게 있을지어다
[3] 내가 너희를 생각할 때마다 나의 하나님께 감사하며
[4] 간구할 때마다 너희 무리를 위하여 기쁨으로 항상 간구함은
[5] 너희가 첫날부터 이제까지 복음을 위한 일에 참여하고 있기 때문이라
[6] 너희 안에서 착한 일을 시작하신 이가 그리스도 예수의 날까지 이루실 줄을 우리는 확신하노라
[7] 내가 너희 무리를 위하여 이와 같이 생각하는 것이 마땅하니 이는 너희가 내 마음에 있음이며 나의 매임과 복음을 변명함과 확정함에 너희가 다 나와 함께 은혜에 참여한 자가 됨이라
[8] 내가 예수 그리스도의 심장으로 너희 무리를 얼마나 사모하는지 하나님이 내 증인이시니라
[9] 내가 기도하노라 너희 사랑을 지식과 모든 총명으로 점점 더 풍성하게 하사
[10] 너희로 지극히 선한 것을 분별하며 또 진실하여 허물 없이 그리스도의 날까지 이르고
[11] 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 의의 열매가 가득하여 하나님의 영광과 찬송이 되기를 원하노라
