Fiery Conversation		불 지르는 대화
[ James 3:2 - 3:10 ] - hymn 23 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt. - Colossians 4:6 Where I come from in northern Ghana, bush fires are regular occurrences in the dry season between December and March. I¡¯ve witnessed many acres of farmland set ablaze when the winds carried tiny embers from fire-places or from cigarette butts carelessly thrown by the roadside. With the dry grassland vegetation, all that is needed to start a devastating fire is a little spark. That is how James describes the tongue, calling it ¡°a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one¡¯s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell¡±(James 3:6 NIV). A false statement made here or backbiting there, a vicious remark somewhere else, and relationships are destroyed. ¡°The words of the reckless pierce like swords,¡± says Proverbs 12:18, ¡°but the tongue of the wise brings healing¡±(NIV). Just as fire has both destructive and useful elements, so ¡°death and life are in the power of the tongue¡±(18:21). For conversation that reflects God¡¯s presence in us and pleases Him, let it ¡°always be with grace¡± (Col. 4:6). When expressing our opinions during disagreements, let¡¯s ask God to help us choose wholesome language that brings honor to Him. - Lawrence Darmani		[ 야고보서 3:2 - 3:10 ] - 찬송가 23 장 너희 말을 항상 은혜 가운데서 소금으로 맛을 냄과 같이 하라 - 골로새서 4:6 내가 살던 가나 북부지역은 건기인 12월과 3월 사이에 덤불을 타고 번져나가는 산불이 자주 발생합니다. 길가에 부주의하게 버려진 담배꽁초나 난로에서 타고 남은 재 속의 불티가 바람에 날려 수많은 에이커의 농장이 불타는 것을 본 적도 있습니다. 건조한 목초지인 그곳에서는 작은 불씨 하나가 엄청난 피해를 주는 화재를 초래합니다. 이처럼 야고보도 혀를 가리켜 “혀는 곧 불이요 불의의 세계라 혀는 우리 지체 중에서 온 몸을 더럽히고 삶의 수레바퀴를 불사르나니 그 사르는 것이 지옥 불에서 나느니라”(약 3:6)라고 표현했습니다. 이곳에서의 거짓말이나 저곳에서의 험담, 또 다른 곳에서의 악담들로 인해 인간관계는 무너지고 맙니다. 잠언 12장 18절은 “칼로 찌름 같이 함부로 말하는 자가 있거니와 지혜로운 자의 혀는 양약과 같으니라”고 합니다. 불이 파괴적이면서도 유용한 양면적인 요소를 가지고 있는 것처럼, “죽고 사는 것이 혀의 힘에 달려”(잠 18:21) 있습니다. 우리 내면의 하나님의 임재를 드러내고 하나님을 기쁘게 하는 대화란 “항상 은혜 가운데”(골 4:6) 하는 것입니다. 서로 다른 의견을 표현할 때, 하나님께 영광이 되는 유익한 말을 선택할 수 있도록 하나님께 도움을 구합시다.

Guide my conversation today, Lord. May the words I choose bless and encourage others and build them up rather than tear them down. May You be pleased with what You hear.

Anger can make us speak our mind when we should be minding our speech.

James 3:2-10

[2] For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
[3] Indeed, we put bits in horses' mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body.
[4] Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.
[5] Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!
[6] And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.
[7] For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind.
[8] But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
[9] With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.
[10] Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

주님, 오늘 나의 대화를 인도하여 주소서. 내가 선택한 말들이 다른 사람들을 축복하고 격려하여 그들을 허물지 않고 세우게 하소서. 주님께 기쁨이 되는 대화가 되게 하소서.

분노 때문에 우리는 말을 가려해야 할 때에 속마음을 분별없이 말할 수 있다.

야고보서 3:2-10

[2] 우리가 다 실수가 많으니 만일 말에 실수가 없는 자라면 곧 온전한 사람이라 능히 온 몸도 굴레 씌우리라
[3] 우리가 말들의 입에 재갈 물리는 것은 우리에게 순종하게 하려고 그 온 몸을 제어하는 것이라
[4] 또 배를 보라 그렇게 크고 광풍에 밀려가는 것들을 지극히 작은 키로써 사공의 뜻대로 운행하나니
[5] 이와 같이 혀도 작은 지체로되 큰 것을 자랑하도다 보라 얼마나 작은 불이 얼마나 많은 나무를 태우는가
[6] 혀는 곧 불이요 불의의 세계라 혀는 우리 지체 중에서 온 몸을 더럽히고 삶의 수레바퀴를 불사르나니 그 사르는 것이 지옥 불에서 나느니라
[7] 여러 종류의 짐승과 새와 벌레와 바다의 생물은 다 사람이 길들일 수 있고 길들여 왔거니와
[8] 혀는 능히 길들일 사람이 없나니 쉬지 아니하는 악이요 죽이는 독이 가득한 것이라
[9] 이것으로 우리가 주 아버지를 찬송하고 또 이것으로 하나님의 형상대로 지음을 받은 사람을 저주하나니
[10] 한 입에서 찬송과 저주가 나오는도다 내 형제들아 이것이 마땅하지 아니하니라
