[ 2 Corinthians 5:11 - 5:17 ] - hymn 304 The love of Christ compels us. — 2 Corinthians 5:14 In the 1920s, Bobby Jones dominated the golfing world, despite being an amateur. In one film about his life, Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius, there is a scene where a professional golfer asks Bobby when he is going to quit being an amateur and grab for the money like everyone else does. Jones answers by explaining that the word amateur comes from the Latin amo—to love. His answer was clear: He played golf because he loved the game. Our motives, why we do what we do, make all the difference. This certainly applies to those who are followers of Jesus Christ. In his letter to the Corinthian church, Paul gives us an example of this. Throughout the epistle he defended his conduct, character, and calling as an apostle of Christ. In response to those who questioned his motives for ministry, Paul said, ¡°Christ¡¯s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again¡±(2 Cor.5:14-15 niv). Christ¡¯s love is the greatest of all motivators. 2 Corinthians 5:11–17

[11] Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.
[12] For we do not commend ourselves again to you, but give you opportunity to boast on our behalf, that you may have an answer for those who boast in appearance and not in heart.
[13] For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; or if we are of sound mind, it is for you.
[14] For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died;
[15] and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.
[16] Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.
[17] Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

[12] 우리가 다시 너희에게 자천하는 것이 아니요 오직 우리로 말미암아 자랑할 기회를 너희에게 주어 마음으로 하지 않고 외모로 자랑하는 자들에게 대답하게 하려 하는 것이라
[13] 우리가 만일 미쳤어도 하나님을 위한 것이요 정신이 온전하여도 너희를 위한 것이니
[14] 그리스도의 사랑이 우리를 강권하시는도다 우리가 생각하건대 한 사람이 모든 사람을 대신하여 죽었은즉 모든 사람이 죽은 것이라
[15] 그가 모든 사람을 대신하여 죽으심은 살아 있는 자들로 하여금 다시는 그들 자신을 위하여 살지 않고 오직 그들을 대신하여 죽었다가 다시 살아나신 이를 위하여 살게 하려 함이라
[16] 그러므로 우리가 이제부터는 어떤 사람도 육신을 따라 알지 아니하노라 비록 우리가 그리스도도 육신을 따라 알았으나 이제부터는 그같이 알지 아니하노라
[17] 그런즉 누구든지 그리스도 안에 있으면 새로운 피조물이라 이전 것은 지나갔으니 보라 새 것이 되었도다
