Facing The Impossible		불가능을 마주 대하기
[ Joshua 5:13 - 6:5 ] - hymn 342 See! I have given Jericho into your hand. — Joshua 6:2 In 2008, house values were tumbling in the United Kingdom. But 2 weeks after my husband and I put our home of 40 years on the market, a buyer offered us a good price and we agreed to a sale. Soon our builders started work on the house I had inherited, which would be our new home. But a few days before the sale of our old home was finalized, our buyer pulled out. We were devastated. Now we owned two properties—one whose value was tumbling rapidly, and the other a virtual ruin that we could neither sell nor move into. Until we found a new buyer, we had no money to pay the builder. It was an impossible situation. When Joshua faced Jericho, a fortified city in lockdown, he may have felt as if he was facing an impossible situation (Josh. 5:13–6:27). But then a Man with a drawn sword appeared to him. Some theologians think the Man was Jesus Himself. Joshua anxiously asked if He would be backing the Israelites or their enemies in the forthcoming battle. ¡°¡®Neither one,¡¯ he replied. ¡®I am the commander of the Lord¡¯s army¡¯¡±(5:14 nlt). Joshua bowed in worship before he took another step. He still didn¡¯t know how Jericho would be delivered into his hand, but he listened to God and worshiped Him. Then he obeyed the Lord¡¯s instructions and the impossible happened. — Marion Stroud		[ 여호수아 5:13 - 6:5 ] - 찬송가 342 장 보라 내가 여리고와 그 왕과 용사들을 네 손에 넘겨주었으니 — 여호수아 6:2 2008년 영국의 주택 시세가 하락하고 있었습니다. 그러나 남편과 내가 40년간 살았던 집을 매물로 내놓은 지 2주 만에 어떤 구매자가 좋은 가격을 제안해서 집을 팔기로 했습니다. 곧 건축업자들이 내가 유산으로 물려받은 집을 공사하기 시작했습니다. 우리가 새로 이사 갈 집이었습니다. 그런데 예전 집 매매 마무리를 불과 며칠 앞두고 구매자가 손을 떼어버려 우리는 망연자실해지고 말았습니다. 시세가 급락하고 있는 예전 집과 팔 수도 이사해 들어갈 수도 없는 공사 중인 집, 이렇게 두 집을 소유하게 되어버린 것입니다. 새 구매자를 찾을 때까지 우리는 집 공사비를 지불할 돈도 없었습니다. 정말 견딜 수 없는 상황이었습니다. 여호수아가 철옹성의 도시 여리고를 마주했을 때, 그도 마치 불가능한 상황을 맞닥뜨린 것 같이 느꼈을 것입니다(수 5:13-6:27). 그러나 그때 칼을 빼 들고 있는 어떤 이가 그에게 나타났습니다. 어떤 신학자들은 그가 바로 예수님이었다고 생각합니다. 여호수아는 그에게 앞으로 있을 전투에서 이스라엘과 적 중 어느 편에 설 것인지 걱정스럽게 물었습니다. 그러자 그는 “아니라 나는 여호와의 군대 대장으로 지금 왔느니라”(5:14)라고 대답했습니다. 여호수아는 더 다가가지 않고 엎드려 그에게 절했습니다. 여호수아는 여리고성이 어떻게 그의 손에 들어올지 여전히 알 수 없었지만, 하나님께 귀를 기울였고 하나님을 경배했습니다. 그리고 하나님의 지시에 순종하자 불가능해 보였던 기적이 일어났습니다.

Dear Lord, often when I am faced with an impossible situation I choose worry rather than trust. Help me to trust You and to remember that nothing is too hard for You.

Nothing is impossible for the Lord.

Joshua 5:13–6:5

[13] And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, "Are You for us or for our adversaries?"
[14] So He said, "No, but as Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come." And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, "What does my Lord say to His servant?"
[15] Then the Commander of the LORD'S army said to Joshua, "Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy." And Joshua did so.

[6:1] Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in.
[2] And the LORD said to Joshua: "See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor.
[3] "You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days.
[4] "And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.
[5] "It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him."

사랑하는 주님, 불가능한 일을 마주할 때
자주 나는 믿음보다는 걱정이 앞섭니다.
주님을 더욱 의지하도록 도우시고 그 어떤 일도
주님께는 불가능하지 않음을 기억하게 하소서.

주님께는 능치 못할 일이 없다.

여호수아 5:13–6:5

[13] 여호수아가 여리고에 가까이 이르렀을 때에 눈을 들어 본즉 한 사람이 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 마주 서 있는지라 여호수아가 나아가서 그에게 묻되 너는 우리를 위하느냐 우리의 적들을 위하느냐 하니
[14] 그가 이르되 아니라 나는 여호와의 군대 대장으로 지금 왔느니라 하는지라 여호수아가 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려 절하고 그에게 이르되 내 주여 종에게 무슨 말씀을 하려 하시나이까
[15] 여호와의 군대 대장이 여호수아에게 이르되 네 발에서 신을 벗으라 네가 선 곳은 거룩하니라 하니 여호수아가 그대로 행하니라

[6:1] 이스라엘 자손들로 말미암아 여리고는 굳게 닫혔고 출입하는 자가 없더라
[2] 여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르시되 보라 내가 여리고와 그 왕과 용사들을 네 손에 넘겨 주었으니
[3] 너희 모든 군사는 그 성을 둘러 성 주위를 매일 한 번씩 돌되 엿새 동안을 그리하라
[4] 제사장 일곱은 일곱 양각 나팔을 잡고 언약궤 앞에서 나아갈 것이요 일곱째 날에는 그 성을 일곱 번 돌며 그 제사장들은 나팔을 불 것이며
[5] 제사장들이 양각 나팔을 길게 불어 그 나팔 소리가 너희에게 들릴 때에는 백성은 다 큰 소리로 외쳐 부를 것이라 그리하면 그 성벽이 무너져 내리리니 백성은 각기 앞으로 올라갈지니라 하시매
