When We¡¯re Let Down		우리가 실망할 때
[ 1 Samuel 17:33 - 17:50 ] - hymn 543 The Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord¡¯s and He will give you into our hands. — 1 Samuel 17:47 On August 4, 1991, the MTS Oceanos cruise ship ran into a terrible storm off the coast of South Africa. When the ship began to sink, the captain decided to abandon ship and left with his officers, failing to notify those onboard of any problem. Passenger Moss Hills, a British musician, noticed that something was wrong and sent out a Mayday signal to the South African coast guard. Then, taking matters into their own hands, Moss, his wife Tracy, and other entertainers on board helped organize the evacuation of all passengers by assisting them as they were lifted into helicopters. Sometimes those we look to for leadership can let us down. When King Saul and his officers faced the belligerent insults of the Philistine giant Goliath, they responded with fear and timidity (1 Sam.17:11). But a young musician and shepherd boy named David had faith in God that transformed his perspective on this threat. David said to Goliath, ¡°You come to me with a sword .... But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts¡±(v.45). David defeated the enemy and turned the tide of battle (v.50). He did not look to earthly leaders for his strength but to the living God. When others let us down, God may be calling us to provide leadership in His strength and for His honor. — Dennis Fisher		[ 사무엘상 17:33 - 17:50 ] - 찬송가 543 장 여호와의 구원하심이 칼과 창에 있지 아니함을…전쟁은 여호와께 속한 것인즉 그가 너희를 우리 손에 넘기시리라 — 사무엘상 17:47 1991년 8월 4일, 크루즈 여객선 엠티에스 오시아노스가 남아프리카공화국 연안에서 굉장한 폭풍우를 만났습니다. 배가 가라앉기 시작하자 선장은 배를 버리기로 결정하고, 승객들에게는 문제를 알리지도 않고 선원들과 함께 배를 버리고 떠나버렸습니다. 그 배의 승객이었던 영국 출신 음악가 모스 힐스는 뭔가 이상하다는 것을 감지하고 남아프리카공화국의 해경에게 조난신호를 보냈습니다. 그리고 그의 아내 트레이시와 배 위에 있던 다른 예능인들과 함께 사태를 스스로 해결하기로 마음먹고, 승객들이 헬리콥터에 올라타는 것을 도우면서 모든 승객들을 무사히 대피시켰습니다. 때때로 우리는 리더십을 기대했던 사람들로 인해 실망할 때가 있습니다. 사울왕과 그의 부하들은 블레셋사람 거인 골리앗으로부터 호전적인 모욕을 당했을 때 무서워하고 겁을 냈습니다(삼상 17:11). 그러나 다윗이라는 음악을 즐겨하는 양치기 소년은 하나님을 믿는 믿음으로 이 위협에 대한 관점을 완전히 바꾸었습니다. 다윗이 골리앗에게 말했습니다. “너는 칼과 창과 단창으로 내게 나아 오거니와…나는 만군의 여호와의 이름으로…네게 나아가노라”(45절). 다윗은 그 적을 죽이고 전쟁의 흐름을 바꾸어놓았습니다(50절). 그는 힘을 얻기 위해 땅의 지도자를 바라보지 않고 살아 계신 하나님을 바라보았습니다. 다른 사람들이 우리를 실망시킬 때, 하나님은 하나님이 주시는 힘으로 또 하나님께 영광을 돌리기 위해 우리가 리더십을 발휘하게 하시기도 합니다.

Dear Lord, I don¡¯t have the power on my own to lead others through a difficult situation. But You are all-powerful. Give me the courage to help others as I rely on Your strength that cannot fail.

Only as we follow Christ can we lead others in the right direction.

1 Samuel 17:33-50

[33] And Saul said to David, "You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth."
[34] But David said to Saul, "Your servant used to keep his father's sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock,
[35] I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it.
[36] "Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God."
[37] Moreover David said, "The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." And Saul said to David, "Go, and the LORD be with you!"
[38] So Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail.
[39] David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, "I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them." So David took them off.
[40] Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine.
[41] So the Philistine came, and began drawing near to David, and the man who bore the shield went before him.
[42] And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking.
[43] So the Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?" And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
[44] And the Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!"
[45] Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
[46] "This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
[47] "Then all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD'S, and He will give you into our hands."
[48] So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hastened and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
[49] Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.
[50] So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David.

주님, 어려운 상황에서
다른 사람들을 인도할 수 있는 힘이 저에게는 없으나,
주님은 전능하십니다. 모든 것을 이기시는 주님의 능력에 의지하여
다른 사람들을 도울 수 있도록 저에게 용기를 주소서.

오직 예수님을 따름으로써만
다른 이들을 바른 방향으로 인도할 수 있다.

사무엘상 17:33-50

[33] 사울이 다윗에게 이르되 네가 가서 저 블레셋 사람과 싸울 수 없으리니 너는 소년이요 그는 어려서부터 용사임이니라
[34] 다윗이 사울에게 말하되 주의 종이 아버지의 양을 지킬 때에 사자나 곰이 와서 양 떼에서 새끼를 물어가면
[35] 내가 따라가서 그것을 치고 그 입에서 새끼를 건져내었고 그것이 일어나 나를 해하고자 하면 내가 그 수염을 잡고 그것을 쳐죽였나이다
[36] 주의 종이 사자와 곰도 쳤은즉 살아 계시는 하나님의 군대를 모욕한 이 할례 받지 않은 블레셋 사람이리이까 그가 그 짐승의 하나와 같이 되리이다
[37] 또 다윗이 이르되 여호와께서 나를 사자의 발톱과 곰의 발톱에서 건져내셨은즉 나를 이 블레셋 사람의 손에서도 건져내시리이다 사울이 다윗에게 이르되 가라 여호와께서 너와 함께 계시기를 원하노라
[38] 이에 사울이 자기 군복을 다윗에게 입히고 놋 투구를 그의 머리에 씌우고 또 그에게 갑옷을 입히매
[39] 다윗이 칼을 군복 위에 차고는 익숙하지 못하므로 시험적으로 걸어 보다가 사울에게 말하되 익숙하지 못하니 이것을 입고 가지 못하겠나이다 하고 곧 벗고
[40] 손에 막대기를 가지고 시내에서 매끄러운 돌 다섯을 골라서 자기 목자의 제구 곧 주머니에 넣고 손에 물매를 가지고 블레셋 사람에게로 나아가니라
[41] 블레셋 사람이 방패 든 사람을 앞세우고 다윗에게로 점점 가까이 나아가니라
[42] 그 블레셋 사람이 둘러보다가 다윗을 보고 업신여기니 이는 그가 젊고 붉고 용모가 아름다움이라
[43] 블레셋 사람이 다윗에게 이르되 네가 나를 개로 여기고 막대기를 가지고 내게 나아왔느냐 하고 그의 신들의 이름으로 다윗을 저주하고
[44] 그 블레셋 사람이 또 다윗에게 이르되 내게로 오라 내가 네 살을 공중의 새들과 들짐승들에게 주리라 하는지라
[45] 다윗이 블레셋 사람에게 이르되 너는 칼과 창과 단창으로 내게 나아 오거니와 나는 만군의 여호와의 이름 곧 네가 모욕하는 이스라엘 군대의 하나님의 이름으로 네게 나아가노라
[46] 오늘 여호와께서 너를 내 손에 넘기시리니 내가 너를 쳐서 네 목을 베고 블레셋 군대의 시체를 오늘 공중의 새와 땅의 들짐승에게 주어 온 땅으로 이스라엘에 하나님이 계신 줄 알게 하겠고
[47] 또 여호와의 구원하심이 칼과 창에 있지 아니함을 이 무리에게 알게 하리라 전쟁은 여호와께 속한 것인즉 그가 너희를 우리 손에 넘기시리라
[48] 블레셋 사람이 일어나 다윗에게로 마주 가까이 올 때에 다윗이 블레셋 사람을 향하여 빨리 달리며
[49] 손을 주머니에 넣어 돌을 가지고 물매로 던져 블레셋 사람의 이마를 치매 돌이 그의 이마에 박히니 땅에 엎드러지니라
[50] 다윗이 이같이 물매와 돌로 블레셋 사람을 이기고 그를 쳐죽였으나 자기 손에는 칼이 없었더라
