[ John 20:24 - 20:31 ] - hymn 282 Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. — John 20:29 Charlotte Elliott wrote the hymn ¡°Just As I Am¡± in 1834. She had been an invalid for many years, and though she wanted to help with a fund-raiser for a girl¡¯s school, she was too ill. She felt useless, and this inner distress caused her to begin doubting her faith in Christ. She wrote ¡°Just As I Am¡± as a response to her doubt. The crux of her distress is perhaps best expressed in these words: Just as I am, though tossed about With many a conflict, many a doubt, Fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come! Three days after His death and burial, Jesus rose from the grave and invited the disciple whom history has nicknamed ¡°Doubting Thomas¡± to examine the marks of His crucifixion (John 20:27). When Thomas touched Jesus¡¯ wounds, he finally believed in the resurrection. Christ responded, ¡°Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed¡±(v.29). As Christians today, we are the ones who have not seen but still believe. Yet at times our earthly circumstances create serious questions in our souls. Even then, we cry out: ¡°Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!¡±(Mark 9:24). Jesus welcomes us to come to Him just as we are. — Jennifer Benson Schuldt		[ 요한복음 20:24 - 20:31 ] - 찬송가 282 장 보지 못하고 믿는 자들은 복되도다 — 요한복음 20:29 샬롯 엘리엇은 1834년에 찬송가 “큰 죄에 빠진 날 위해”를 작시했습니다. 그녀는 오랜 세월을 병상에서 보냈고, 한 여학교를 위한 기금모금행사를 도우려 했을 때도 심한 병중에 있었습니다. 그녀는 스스로 무용지물처럼 느껴졌고, 이 내면의 고통은 그리스도를 믿는 그녀의 믿음에 의심을 불러일으켰습니다. 그녀는 자신의 의심에 대한 대응으로 “큰 죄에 빠진 날 위해”를 썼습니다. 그녀의 정신적 고통의 최고조는 아마도 다음의 가사에 가장 잘 표현되어 있습니다. 많은 갈등, 많은 의심, 안팎의 싸움과 두려움들로 이리저리 뒹굴었지만, 이 모습 이대로 하나님의 어린양께 나 나아갑니다! 예수님이 죽으시고 장사된 지 3일째 되는 날, 예수님은 무덤에서 일어나셨습니다. 그리고 후세에 ‘의심 많은 도마’라는 별명을 갖게 된 제자를 초청하여 주님의 십자가형으로 생긴 상처자국을 만져보게 하셨습니다(요 20:27). 도마는 예수님의 상처를 만져보고야 비로소 부활을 믿었지만, 그리스도께서는 “너는 나를 본고로 믿느냐 보지 못하고 믿는 자들은 복되도다”(29절)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 오늘을 사는 그리스도인으로서 우리는 눈으로 보지 않고도 믿는 자들입니다. 그러나 여전히 세상적인 상황들이 때때로 우리의 영혼에 심각한 의심들을 갖게 하곤 합니다. 그럴 때조차도 우리는 “[주여] 나의 믿음 없는 것을 도와주소서”(막 9:24)라고 외칩니다. 그러면 예수님은 꾸밈없이 그대로 주님께 나아가는 우리를 기뻐 맞이해주십니다.

Dear Jesus, help me to trust You when life doesn¡¯t make sense. Please take my doubt and replace it with fresh faith in You.

The risen Christ opens the door for you to have fullness of life.

John 20:24-31

[24] Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
[25] The other disciples therefore said to him, "We have seen the Lord." So he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe."
[26] And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace to you!"
[27] Then He said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing."
[28] And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"
[29] Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
[30] And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;
[31] but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

사랑하는 예수님, 삶이 이해되지 않을 때
주님을 신뢰할 수 있도록 도와주소서
내 의심을 거두시고
주님을 향한 새로운 믿음으로 바꾸어주소서

다시 사신 그리스도는 풍성한 삶을 누릴 수 있도록 문을 열어주신다.

요한복음 20:24-31

[24] 열두 제자 중의 하나로서 디두모라 불리는 도마는 예수께서 오셨을 때에 함께 있지 아니한지라
[25] 다른 제자들이 그에게 이르되 우리가 주를 보았노라 하니 도마가 이르되 내가 그의 손의 못 자국을 보며 내 손가락을 그 못 자국에 넣으며 내 손을 그 옆구리에 넣어 보지 않고는 믿지 아니하겠노라 하니라
[26] 여드레를 지나서 제자들이 다시 집 안에 있을 때에 도마도 함께 있고 문들이 닫혔는데 예수께서 오사 가운데 서서 이르시되 너희에게 평강이 있을지어다 하시고
[27] 도마에게 이르시되 네 손가락을 이리 내밀어 내 손을 보고 네 손을 내밀어 내 옆구리에 넣어 보라 그리하여 믿음 없는 자가 되지 말고 믿는 자가 되라
[28] 도마가 대답하여 이르되 나의 주님이시요 나의 하나님이시니이다
[29] 예수께서 이르시되 너는 나를 본 고로 믿느냐 보지 못하고 믿는 자들은 복되도다 하시니라
[30] 예수께서 제자들 앞에서 이 책에 기록되지 아니한 다른 표적도 많이 행하셨으나
[31] 오직 이것을 기록함은 너희로 예수께서 하나님의 아들 그리스도이심을 믿게 하려 함이요 또 너희로 믿고 그 이름을 힘입어 생명을 얻게 하려 함이니라
