The Definite Choice		확고한 선택
[ Joshua 24:15 - 24:24 ] - hymn 545 We will serve the Lord! — Joshua 24:21 Coming from someone who used to value ancestral gods, my 90-year-old father¡¯s statement near the end of his life was remarkable: ¡°When I die,¡±he spoke laboriously, ¡°nobody should do anything other than what the church will do. No soothsaying, no ancestral sacrifices, no rituals. As my life is in the hands of Jesus Christ, so shall my death be!¡± My father chose the path of Christ in his old age when he invited Jesus into his life as Savior. His contemporaries mocked him: ¡°An old man like you shouldn¡¯t be going to church!¡±But my father¡¯s choice to follow and worship the true God was definite, like the people Joshua addressed. ¡°Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve,¡±Joshua challenged them. ¡°But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord¡±(24:15). Their response was resolute—they chose to worship the Lord. Even after Joshua warned them to count the cost (vv.19-20), they still resolved to follow the Lord, recalling His deliverance, provision, and protection (vv.16-17,21). Such a confident choice, however, calls for equally confident actions, as Joshua strongly reminded them: ¡°Put away the foreign gods ... and incline your heart to the Lord¡±(v.23). Have you made a choice to live for God? — Lawrence Darmani		[ 여호수아 24:15 - 24:24 ] - 찬송가 545 장 우리가 여호와를 섬기겠나이다 — 여호수아 24:21 조상 대대로의 신들을 존중하는 것에 익숙하신 90세 되신 아버지가 돌아가실 즈음에 놀라운 말씀을 하셨습니다. 아버지는 힘들어하시며 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “내가 죽으면 어느 누구도 교회가 하는 것 외에 어떤 것도 해서는 안 된다. 점도 보지 말고, 조상에게 제물을 바치거나 의식을 행하지 마라. 내 생명이 예수 그리스도의 손 안에 있기에 내 죽음도 예수님의 손 안에 있게 될 것이다!” 아버지는 나이 드셔서 예수님을 그의 삶에 구주로 받아들으시고 그리스도의 길을 택하셨습니다. 그의 동갑내기들이 “너 같이 늙은 사람은 교회 가면 안 돼!”라고 놀렸지만, 참되신 하나님을 따르고 경배하기로 한 아버지의 선택은 여호수아가 전했던 그 사람들처럼 분명했습니다. “너희가 섬길 자를 오늘 택하라 오직 나와 내 집은 여호와를 섬기겠노라”(수 24:15)라고 여호수아가 그들에게 도전하자, 그들은 주님을 섬기겠다고 단호하게 응답했습니다. 여호수아가 주님을 섬기는 일의 어려움을 그들에게 경고하였지만(19-20절), 그럼에도 그들은 하나님의 구원하심과 예비하심, 그리고 보호하심들을 상기하며 하나님을 따르기로 결단하였습니다(16-17, 21절). 그러나 그러한 확고한 선택은 여호수아가 “이방 신들을 치워 버리고 너희의 마음을…여호와께로 향하라”(23절)라고 강력하게 그들에게 상기시켜 준 것처럼 동시에 확고한 행동을 요구합니다. 하나님을 위해 살기로 선택하셨습니까?

Teach me all it means, Lord, to choose You.
I want my words, actions, and attitudes to show the love
for You that I have in my heart.
You are worthy of far more than I could ever do.

A definite choice demands definite actions.

Joshua 24:15-24

[15] "And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."
[16] So the people answered and said: "Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods;
[17] "for the LORD our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went and among all the people through whom we passed.
[18] "And the LORD drove out from before us all the people, including the Amorites who dwelt in the land. We also will serve the LORD, for He is our God."
[19] But Joshua said to the people, "You cannot serve the LORD, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
[20] "If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do you harm and consume you, after He has done you good."
[21] And the people said to Joshua, "No, but we will serve the LORD!"
[22] So Joshua said to the people, "You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD for yourselves, to serve Him." And they said, "We are witnesses!"
[23] "Now therefore," he said, "put away the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart to the LORD God of Israel."
[24] And the people said to Joshua, "The LORD our God we will serve, and His voice we will obey!"

주님, 주님을 선택한다는 것이 무엇을 의미하는지 가르쳐주소서.
제 말과 행동, 태도로 제 마음속에 계시는 주님께 사랑을
표현하고 싶습니다. 주님은 제가 그렇게 해드릴 수 있는 것보다
훨씬 더 고귀하신 분이십니다.

확고한 선택은 확고한 행동을 요구한다.

여호수아 24:15-24

[15] 만일 여호와를 섬기는 것이 너희에게 좋지 않게 보이거든 너희 조상들이 강 저쪽에서 섬기던 신들이든지 또는 너희가 거주하는 땅에 있는 아모리 족속의 신들이든지 너희가 섬길 자를 오늘 택하라 오직 나와 내 집은 여호와를 섬기겠노라 하니
[16] 백성이 대답하여 이르되 우리가 결단코 여호와를 버리고 다른 신들을 섬기기를 하지 아니하오리니
[17] 이는 우리 하나님 여호와께서 친히 우리와 우리 조상들을 인도하여 애굽 땅 종 되었던 집에서 올라오게 하시고 우리 목전에서 그 큰 이적들을 행하시고 우리가 행한 모든 길과 우리가 지나온 모든 백성들 중에서 우리를 보호하셨음이며
[18] 여호와께서 또 모든 백성들과 이 땅에 거주하던 아모리 족속을 우리 앞에서 쫓아내셨음이라 그러므로 우리도 여호와를 섬기리니 그는 우리 하나님이심이니이다 하니라
[19] 여호수아가 백성에게 이르되 너희가 여호와를 능히 섬기지 못할 것은 그는 거룩하신 하나님이시요 질투하시는 하나님이시니 너희의 잘못과 죄들을 사하지 아니하실 것임이라
[20] 만일 너희가 여호와를 버리고 이방 신들을 섬기면 너희에게 복을 내리신 후에라도 돌이켜 너희에게 재앙을 내리시고 너희를 멸하시리라 하니
[21] 백성이 여호수아에게 말하되 아니니이다 우리가 여호와를 섬기겠나이다 하는지라
[22] 여호수아가 백성에게 이르되 너희가 여호와를 택하고 그를 섬기리라 하였으니 스스로 증인이 되었느니라 하니 그들이 이르되 우리가 증인이 되었나이다 하더라
[23] 여호수아가 이르되 그러면 이제 너희 중에 있는 이방 신들을 치워 버리고 너희의 마음을 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께로 향하라 하니
[24] 백성이 여호수아에게 말하되 우리 하나님 여호와를 우리가 섬기고 그의 목소리를 우리가 청종하리이다 하는지라
