[ Proverbs 10:2 - 10:15 ] - hymn 322 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches. — Proverbs 22:1 Charles Ponzi¡¯s name will be forever associated with the financial fraud scheme he elevated to a way of life. After some minor financial crimes and brief times in jail, in early 1920 he began offering investors a 50 percent return on their money in 45 days and a 100 percent return in 90 days. Although it seemed too good to be true, the money poured in. Ponzi used money from new investors to pay prior investors and fund his lavish lifestyle. By the time his fraud was discovered in August 1920, investors had lost 20 million dollars and five banks had failed. Ponzi spent 3 years in prison, was later deported to Italy, and died penniless in 1949 at the age of 66. The Old Testament book of Proverbs frequently contrasts the reputations of wise and foolish people: ¡°The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot. . . . He who walks with integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will become known¡±(Prov. 10:7,9). Solomon sums it up by saying, ¡°A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold¡±(22:1). Proverbs 10:2-15

[2] Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, But righteousness delivers from death.
[3] The LORD will not allow the righteous soul to famish, But He casts away the desire of the wicked.
[4] He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.
[5] He who gathers in summer is a wise son; He who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.
[6] Blessings are on the head of the righteous, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
[7] The memory of the righteous is blessed, But the name of the wicked will rot.
[8] The wise in heart will receive commands, But a prating fool will fall.
[9] He who walks with integrity walks securely, But he who perverts his ways will become known.
[10] He who winks with the eye causes trouble, But a prating fool will fall.
[11] The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
[12] Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.
[13] Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding, But a rod is for the back of him who is devoid of understanding.
[14] Wise people store up knowledge, But the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
[15] The rich man's wealth is his strong city; The destruction of the poor is their poverty.

주님, 주님은 무엇이 최선인지를 아시기에
우리를 의롭고 선한 길로 인도하시기를 원하십니다.
주님을 신뢰하고 주님의 이름을 위해 의로운 삶의 길로
주님을 따라갈 수 있는 용기를 주시옵소서.

명예를 얻음으로 우리의 위대하신 하나님께 영광을 돌리게 된다.

[8] 마음이 지혜로운 자는 계명을 받거니와 입이 미련한 자는 멸망하리라
[9] 바른 길로 행하는 자는 걸음이 평안하려니와 굽은 길로 행하는 자는 드러나리라
[10] 눈짓하는 자는 근심을 끼치고 입이 미련한 자는 멸망하느니라
[11] 의인의 입은 생명의 샘이라도 악인의 입은 독을 머금었느니라
[12] 미움은 다툼을 일으켜도 사랑은 모든 허물을 가리느니라
[13] 명철한 자의 입술에는 지혜가 있어도 지혜 없는 자의 등을 위하여는 채찍이 있느니라
[14] 지혜로운 자는 지식을 간직하거니와 미련한 자의 입은 멸망에 가까우니라
[15] 부자의 재물은 그의 견고한 성이요 가난한 자의 궁핍은 그의 멸망이니라
