Strengthen My Hands		내 손을 힘 있게 하소서
[ Nehemiah 6:1 - 6:9 ] - hymn 585 Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands. — Nehemiah 6:9 Singapore¡¯s first Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, is the man credited with making Singapore what it is today. During his leadership, Singapore grew to be rich and prosperous and one of the most developed nations in Asia. Asked if he ever felt like giving up when he faced criticism and challenges during his many years of public service, he replied, ¡°This is a life-long commitment.¡± Nehemiah, who led in the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem, refused to give up. He faced insults and intimidation from the enemies all around him as well as injustices from his own people(Neh.4–5). His enemies even insinuated that he had a personal agenda (6:6-7). He sought help from God while taking every defensive step he could. Despite the challenges, the wall was completed in 52 days (6:15). But Nehemiah¡¯s work was not complete. He encouraged the Israelites to study the Scriptures, to worship, and to keep God¡¯s law. After completing 12 years as governor (5:14), he returned to make sure his reforms were continuing (13:6). Nehemiah had a life-long commitment to leading the people. We all face challenges and difficulties in life. But as God helped Nehemiah, He will also strengthen our hands (6:9) for the rest of our lives in whatever tasks He gives to us. — C. P. Dear Lord, sometimes it¡¯s easy to get discouraged
when faced with criticism or challenges. Help
me to persevere and grant me the strength to be
faithful to what You have called me to do.

Life¡¯s challenges are designed not to break us but to bend us toward God.

Nehemiah 6:1-9,15

[1] Now it happened when Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall, and that there were no breaks left in it (though at that time I had not hung the doors in the gates),
[2] that Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, "Come, let us meet together among the villages in the plain of Ono." But they thought to do me harm.
[3] So I sent messengers to them, saying, "I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?"
[4] But they sent me this message four times, and I answered them in the same manner.
[5] Then Sanballat sent his servant to me as before, the fifth time, with an open letter in his hand.
[6] In it was written: It is reported among the nations, and Geshem says, that you and the Jews plan to rebel; therefore, according to these rumors, you are rebuilding the wall, that you may be their king.
[7] And you have also appointed prophets to proclaim concerning you at Jerusalem, saying, 'There is a king in Judah!' Now these matters will be reported to the king. So come, therefore, and let us consult together.
[8] Then I sent to him, saying, "No such things as you say are being done, but you invent them in your own heart."
[9] For they all were trying to make us afraid, saying, "Their hands will be weakened in the work, and it will not be done." Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

[15] So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of Elul, in fifty-two days.

사랑하는 주님, 우리는 비난과 도전에 직면하면
낙담해버리기 쉽습니다. 견뎌낼 수 있도록 도와주시고,
주님이 제게 하라고 하신 일들을 신실하게 감당할 수 있도록
힘을 더해주소서.

인생에서 만나는 여러 도전들은 우리를 깨뜨리기 위함이 아니라,
우리를 하나님께로 향하도록 하기 위해 계획된 것이다.

느헤미야 6:1-9,15

[1] 산발랏과 도비야와 아라비아 사람 게셈과 그 나머지 우리의 원수들이 내가 성벽을 건축하여 허물어진 틈을 남기지 아니하였다 함을 들었는데 그 때는 내가 아직 성문에 문짝을 달지 못한 때였더라
[2] 산발랏과 게셈이 내게 사람을 보내어 이르기를 오라 우리가 오노 평지 한 촌에서 서로 만나자 하니 실상은 나를 해하고자 함이었더라
[3] 내가 곧 그들에게 사자들을 보내어 이르기를 내가 이제 큰 역사를 하니 내려가지 못하겠노라 어찌하여 역사를 중지하게 하고 너희에게로 내려가겠느냐 하매
[4] 그들이 네 번이나 이같이 내게 사람을 보내되 나는 꼭 같이 대답하였더니
[5] 산발랏이 다섯 번째는 그 종자의 손에 봉하지 않은 편지를 들려 내게 보냈는데
[6] 그 글에 이르기를 이방 중에도 소문이 있고 가스무도 말하기를 너와 유다 사람들이 모반하려 하여 성벽을 건축한다 하나니 네가 그 말과 같이 왕이 되려 하는도다
[7] 또 네가 선지자를 세워 예루살렘에서 너를 들어 선전하기를 유다에 왕이 있다 하게 하였으니 지금 이 말이 왕에게 들릴지라 그런즉 너는 이제 오라 함께 의논하자 하였기로
[8] 내가 사람을 보내어 그에게 이르기를 네가 말한 바 이런 일은 없는 일이요 네 마음에서 지어낸 것이라 하였나니
[9] 이는 그들이 다 우리를 두렵게 하고자 하여 말하기를 그들의 손이 피곤하여 역사를 중지하고 이루지 못하리라 함이라 이제 내 손을 힘있게 하옵소서 하였노라

[15] 성벽 역사가 오십이 일 만인 엘룰월 이십오일에 끝나매
