[ John 7:37 - 7:46 ] - hymn 505 No man ever spoke like this Man! — John 7:46 A US congressman, John Lewis, was 23 years old when he participated in the historic 1963 civil rights ¡°March on Washington¡± led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Half a century later, journalist Bill Moyers asked Lewis how he was affected by Dr. King¡¯s I Have A Dream speech that day. Mr. Lewis replied, ¡°You couldn¡¯t leave after hearing him speak and go back to business as usual. You had to do something, you had to act. You had to move. You had to go out and spread the good news.¡± Many who encountered Jesus found it impossible to remain neutral about Him. John 7:25-46 records two different reactions to Jesus. While ¡°many of the people believed in Him¡± (v.31), the religious leaders tried to silence Him by sending temple guards to arrest Him (v.32). The guards were likely present when Jesus said, ¡°If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water¡±(vv.37-38). The guards returned without Jesus and were asked, ¡°Why have you not brought Him?¡±(v.45). They answered, ¡°No man ever spoke like this Man!¡±(v.46). Jesus¡¯ death forgave my past sins and inspires my present obedience.

John 7:37-46

[37] On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.
[38] "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."
[39] But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
[40] Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, "Truly this is the Prophet."
[41] Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Will the Christ come out of Galilee?
[42] "Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?"
[43] So there was a division among the people because of Him.
[44] Now some of them wanted to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him.
[45] Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why have you not brought Him?"
[46] The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this Man!"

우리가 믿고 고백하는 거룩한 복음이
우리의 말과 생활에 나타나게 하소서
우리의 모든 일과 선행이 빛을 발하여
주의 거룩한 법을 드러내게 하소서

예수님의 죽음은 내 과거의 죄들을 용서하고
지금의 나를 순종케 한다.

요한복음 7:37-46

[37] 명절 끝날 곧 큰 날에 예수께서 서서 외쳐 이르시되 누구든지 목마르거든 내게로 와서 마시라
[38] 나를 믿는 자는 성경에 이름과 같이 그 배에서 생수의 강이 흘러나오리라 하시니
[39] 이는 그를 믿는 자들이 받을 성령을 가리켜 말씀하신 것이라 (예수께서 아직 영광을 받지 않으셨으므로 성령이 아직 그들에게 계시지 아니하시더라)
[40] 이 말씀을 들은 무리 중에서 어떤 사람은 이 사람이 참으로 그 선지자라 하며
[41] 어떤 사람은 그리스도라 하며 어떤 이들은 그리스도가 어찌 갈릴리에서 나오겠느냐
[42] 성경에 이르기를 그리스도는 다윗의 씨로 또 다윗이 살던 마을 베들레헴에서 나오리라 하지 아니하였느냐 하며
[43] 예수로 말미암아 무리 중에서 쟁론이 되니
[44] 그 중에는 그를 잡고자 하는 자들도 있으나 손을 대는 자가 없었더라
[45] 아랫사람들이 대제사장들과 바리새인들에게로 오니 그들이 묻되 어찌하여 잡아오지 아니하였느냐
[46] 아랫사람들이 대답하되 그 사람이 말하는 것처럼 말한 사람은 이 때까지 없었나이다 하니
