Delay May Not Mean Denial		미루는 것이 거절은 아니다
[ John 11:21 - 11:35 ] - hymn 363 When [Jesus] heard that [Lazarus] was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was. — John 11:6 My sons¡¯birthdays are in December. When they were small, Angus quickly learned that if he didn¡¯t receive a longed-for toy for his birthday at the beginning of the month, it might be in his Christmas stocking. And if David didn¡¯t receive his gift for Christmas, it might appear for his birthday 4 days later. Delay didn¡¯t necessarily mean denial. It was natural for Martha and Mary to send for Jesus when Lazarus became seriously ill (John 11:1-3). Perhaps they looked anxiously along the road for signs of His arrival, but Jesus didn¡¯t come. The funeral service had been over for 4 days when Jesus finally walked into town (v.17). Martha was blunt. ¡°If You had been here,¡±she said, ¡°my brother would not have died¡±(v.21). Then her faith flickered into certainty, ¡°Even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You¡±(v.22). I wonder what she expected. Lazarus was dead, and she was wary about opening the tomb. And yet at a word from Jesus, Lazarus¡¯spirit returned to his decaying body (vv.41-44). Jesus had bypassed simply healing His sick friend, in order to perform the far greater miracle of bringing him back to life. Waiting for God¡¯s timing may also give us a greater miracle than we had hoped for. — Marion Stroud		[ 요한복음 11:21 - 11:35 ] - 찬송가 363 장 나사로가 병들었다 함을 들으시고 그 계시던 곳에 이틀을 더 유하시고 — 요한복음 11:6 내 아들들의 생일은 다 12월에 있습니다. 어렸을 때 앵거스는 월초에 자기가 오랫동안 갖고 싶었던 생일선물을 못 받게 되면 그 선물이 크리스마스 양말 속에 있게 될 거라는 것을 금방 알게 되었습니다. 그리고 데이비드도 크리스마스에 선물을 받지 못하면 나흘 후인 자기 생일에 받으리라는 것을 알았습니다. 미루어지는 것이 반드시 거절을 의미하는 것은 아니었던 것입니다. 마르다와 마리아가 나사로가 너무 아프다는 전갈을 예수님께 보낸 것은 아주 자연스러운 일이었습니다(요 11:1-3). 아마도 주님이 이제나 오실까 하여 그들은 초조해하며 길을 내다보았겠지만, 예수님은 오시지 않았습니다. 장례를 치른 지 나흘이 지난 후에야 예수님이 마침내 동네로 걸어 들어오셨습니다(17절). 마르다는 퉁명스럽게 “주께서 여기 계셨더라면 내 오라버니가 죽지 아니하였겠나이다”(21절)라고 말했습니다. 그리고는 확신에 찬 믿음으로 “그러나 나는 이제라도 주께서 무엇이든지 하나님께 구하시는 것을 하나님이 주실 줄을 아나이다”(22절)라고 말했습니다. 나는 그녀가 무엇을 기대했는지 잘 모르겠습니다. 나사로는 죽었고 마르다는 무덤을 여는 것에 대해 아주 조심스러워 했습니다. 그러나 예수님이 말씀하시자 나사로의 영혼이 그의 부패된 몸으로 되돌아갔습니다(41-44절). 예수님은 친구를 다시 살리는 훨씬 더 큰 기적을 행하시기 위해 아픈 친구를 단순히 낫게 하는 일을 건너뛰셨던 것입니다. 하나님의 때를 기다리면 우리가 바라던 것보다 훨씬 더 큰 기적을 경험할 수도 있습니다.

Time spent waiting on God is never wasted.

John 11:21-35

[21] Then Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.
[22] "But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You."
[23] Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."
[24] Martha said to Him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."
[25] Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
[26] "And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"
[27] She said to Him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world."
[28] And when she had said these things, she went her way and secretly called Mary her sister, saying, "The Teacher has come and is calling for you."
[29] As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly and came to Him.
[30] Now Jesus had not yet come into the town, but was in the place where Martha met Him.
[31] Then the Jews who were with her in the house, and comforting her, when they saw that Mary rose up quickly and went out, followed her, saying, "She is going to the tomb to weep there."
[32] Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died."
[33] Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled.
[34] And He said, "Where have you laid him?" They said to Him, "Lord, come and see."
[35] Jesus wept.

내가 기도하면 내 구주께서 들으시네
주의 말씀 의지하여 나는 평안히 쉬네
주님이 주님의 때에 주님의 방법으로
가장 좋은 것을 주신다는 것 나는 안다네

하나님을 기다리는데 쓰인 시간은 결코 낭비가 아니다.

요한복음 11:21-35

[21] 마르다가 예수께 여짜오되 주께서 여기 계셨더라면 내 오라버니가 죽지 아니하였겠나이다
[22] 그러나 나는 이제라도 주께서 무엇이든지 하나님께 구하시는 것을 하나님이 주실 줄을 아나이다
[23] 예수께서 이르시되 네 오라비가 다시 살아나리라
[24] 마르다가 이르되 마지막 날 부활 때에는 다시 살아날 줄을 내가 아나이다
[25] 예수께서 이르시되 나는 부활이요 생명이니 나를 믿는 자는 죽어도 살겠고
[26] 무릇 살아서 나를 믿는 자는 영원히 죽지 아니하리니 이것을 네가 믿느냐
[27] 이르되 주여 그러하외다 주는 그리스도시요 세상에 오시는 하나님의 아들이신 줄 내가 믿나이다
[28] 이 말을 하고 돌아가서 가만히 그 자매 마리아를 불러 말하되 선생님이 오셔서 너를 부르신다 하니
[29] 마리아가 이 말을 듣고 급히 일어나 예수께 나아가매
[30] 예수는 아직 마을로 들어오지 아니하시고 마르다가 맞이했던 곳에 그대로 계시더라
[31] 마리아와 함께 집에 있어 위로하던 유대인들은 그가 급히 일어나 나가는 것을 보고 곡하러 무덤에 가는 줄로 생각하고 따라가더니
[32] 마리아가 예수 계신 곳에 가서 뵈옵고 그 발 앞에 엎드리어 이르되 주께서 여기 계셨더라면 내 오라버니가 죽지 아니하였겠나이다 하더라
[33] 예수께서 그가 우는 것과 또 함께 온 유대인들이 우는 것을 보시고 심령에 비통히 여기시고 불쌍히 여기사
[34] 이르시되 그를 어디 두었느냐 이르되 주여 와서 보옵소서 하니
[35] 예수께서 눈물을 흘리시더라
