Lasting Peace		영원한 화평
[ Ephesians 2:13 - 2:19 ] - hymn 126 He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation. — Ephesians 2:14 On Christmas Eve 1914, during the First World War, the guns fell silent along a 30-mile stretch of the Western Front. Soldiers peered cautiously over the tops of trenches while a few emerged to repair their positions and bury the dead. As darkness fell, some German troops set out lanterns and sang Christmas carols. Men on the British side applauded and shouted greetings. The next day, German, French, and British troops met in No-Man¡¯s Land to shake hands, share food, and exchange gifts. It was a brief respite from war that soon ended when the artillery and machine guns roared to life again. But no one who experienced ¡°The Christmas Truce,¡±as it became known, would ever forget how it felt and how it fueled their longing for lasting peace. In Isaiah¡¯s prophecy of the coming Messiah we read, ¡°His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace¡±(Isa.9:6). By His death on the cross, Jesus removed the ¡°no man¡¯s land¡±between us and God. ¡°For He Himself is our peace¡±(Eph.2:14). In Jesus we can fi-nd lasting peace with God and harmony with each other. This is the life-changing message of Christmas! — David McCasland		[ 에베소서 2:13 - 2:19 ] - 찬송가 126 장 그는 우리의 화평이신지라 둘로 하나를 만드사 원수 된 것 곧 중간에 막힌 담을 자기 육체로 허시고 — 에베소서 2:14 제1차 세계대전 중이었던 1914년의 성탄전야에 약 50킬로미터에 걸쳐 뻗어 있던 서부전선에는 아무런 총소리도 들리지 않았습니다. 몇 명의 군인들이 일어나 자리를 재배치하고 죽은 병사들을 땅에 묻고 있는 동안 다른 군인들은 조심스럽게 참호 밖을 주시하고 있었습니다. 어두워지면서 몇몇 독일 군인들이 호롱불을 걸고 크리스마스 캐럴을 부르자 영국 군인들도 박수를 치며 큰 소리로 크리스마스 인사를 건넸습니다. 그 다음날 독일과 프랑스, 영국 군인들이 중간 무인지대에서 만나 악수를 하고 음식을 서로 나누며 선물을 주고받았습니다. 대포와 기관총 소리가 다시 크게 들리면서 금방 끝나버린 짧은 휴식이긴 했지만, ‘크리스마스 휴전’이라고 불리는 그 순간을 경험한 사람들은 그 누구도 그때 가졌던 느낌과 그것이 영원한 평화에 대한 열망을 얼마나 그들에게 불러 일으켰는지에 대해 잊을 수 없을 것입니다. 이사야는 메시아가 오실 것이라고 예언하면서, “그의 이름은 기묘자라, 모사라, 전능하신 하나님이라, 영존하시는 아버지라, 평강의 왕이라 할 것임이라”(사 9:6)라고 하였습니다. 예수님은 십자가에서의 죽으심으로 하나님과 우리 사이의 ‘중간 무인지대’를 없애셨습니다. “그는 우리의 화평”(엡 2:14)이시기 때문입니다. 예수님 안에서 우리는 하나님과는 영원한 화평을, 우리 서로 간에는 화목을 찾을 수 있습니다. 이것이 바로 우리의 삶을 바꾸는 크리스마스 메시지입니다!

Only in Christ can true peace be realized.

Ephesians 2:13-19

[13] But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
[14] For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation,
[15] having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,
[16] and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.
[17] And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near.
[18] For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
[19] Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

오직 그리스도 안에서만 참된 평화가 실현될 수 있다.

에베소서 2:13-19

[13] 이제는 전에 멀리 있던 너희가 그리스도 예수 안에서 그리스도의 피로 가까워졌느니라
[14] 그는 우리의 화평이신지라 둘로 하나를 만드사 원수 된 것 곧 중간에 막힌 담을 자기 육체로 허시고
[15] 법조문으로 된 계명의 율법을 폐하셨으니 이는 이 둘로 자기 안에서 한 새 사람을 지어 화평하게 하시고
[16] 또 십자가로 이 둘을 한 몸으로 하나님과 화목하게 하려 하심이라 원수 된 것을 십자가로 소멸하시고
[17] 또 오셔서 먼 데 있는 너희에게 평안을 전하시고 가까운 데 있는 자들에게 평안을 전하셨으니
[18] 이는 그로 말미암아 우리 둘이 한 성령 안에서 아버지께 나아감을 얻게 하려 하심이라
[19] 그러므로 이제부터 너희는 외인도 아니요 나그네도 아니요 오직 성도들과 동일한 시민이요 하나님의 권속이라
