Another Hero Of Christmas		크리스마스의 또 다른 영웅
[ Matthew 1:18 - 1:25 ] - hymn 117 Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. — Matthew 1:19 For most of my life, I missed the importance of Joseph in the Christmas story. But after I became a husband and father myself, I had a greater appreciation for Joseph¡¯s tender character. Even before he knew how Mary had become pregnant, he decided that he wasn¡¯t going to embarrass or punish her for what seemed to be infidelity (Matt.1:19). I marvel at his obedience and humility, as he not only did what the angel told him (v.24) but also refrained from physical intimacy with Mary until after Jesus was born (v.25). Later we learn that Joseph was willing to flee his home to protect Jesus (2:13-23). Imagine the pressure Joseph and Mary must have felt when they learned that Jesus would be theirs to raise and nurture! Imagine the complexity and pressure of having the Son of God living with you every moment of every day; a constant call to holiness by His very presence. What a man Joseph must have been to be trusted by God for this task! What a wonderful example for us to follow, whether we¡¯re raising our own children or those born to others who are now entrusted to us. May God grant us the strength to be faithful like Joseph, even if we don¡¯t fully understand God¡¯s plan. — Randy Kilgore		[ 마태복음 1:18 - 1:25 ] - 찬송가 117 장 그의 남편 요셉은 의로운 사람이라 그를 드러내지 아니하고 가만히 끊고자 하여 — 마태복음 1:19 나는 살아오면서 성탄절 이야기에 등장하는 요셉의 중요성을 깨닫지 못하고 있었습니다. 그러나 내가 남편이 되고 아버지가 되면서 요셉의 따뜻한 성품을 더 잘 헤아리게 되었습니다. 마리아가 어떻게 임신하게 되었는지를 알기 전에, 요셉은 이미 간통을 저지른 것으로 여겨지는 그녀에게 창피를 주거나 벌을 가하지 않기로 결정하였습니다(마 1:19). 천사가 말한 대로 마리아를 아내로 데려왔을 뿐만 아니라(24절), 예수님이 탄생할 때까지 그녀와 동침하지 않은(25절) 요셉의 순종과 겸손이 참으로 감탄스럽습니다. 그 후에도 요셉은 예수님을 보호하기 위해 기꺼이 자기 고향을 떠나기도 했습니다(2:13-23). 예수님을 그들이 기르고 양육해야 한다는 것을 알았을 때 요셉과 마리아가 느꼈을 그 중압감을 상상해보십시오! 하나님의 아들이 매일 매순간을 당신과 같이 살고 있다는 것, 즉 바로 그분 앞에 있음으로 끊임없이 요구되는 거룩함에 대한 어려움과 중압감을 상상해보십시오. 이런 일을 맡기실 정도로 하나님이 신임하셨던 요셉은 어떠한 사람이었겠습니까! 이 요셉은 우리가 우리 자신의 아이들이나 다른 사람의 아이들을 맡아 기를 때, 우리가 따라야 할 정말 좋은 본이 아닌지요. 하나님, 우리가 하나님의 계획을 충분히 알지 못한다 하더라도 요셉처럼 신실할 수 있도록 우리에게 힘을 더해주소서.

We know, Father, that Your wisdom is far above our
limited understanding. We thank You that we can rely on
You to carry out Your good plans for us.
You are worthy of our faithfulness.

The secret of true service is absolute faithfulness
wherever God places you.

Matthew 1:18-25

[18] Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
[19] Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.
[20] But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
[21] "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins."
[22] So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:
[23] "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."
[24] Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,
[25] and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.

하나님 아버지, 하나님의 지혜를 어찌 우리가 다 이해할 수 있을까요?
우리를 향한 하나님의 선하신 계획을 이루시기 위해
우리가 주님을 의지하게 하시니 감사합니다.
하나님은 우리의 신실함을 받으시기에 합당하신 분이십니다.

참된 섬김의 비밀은 하나님이 어디에 보내시든
절대 신실한 사람이 되는 것이다.

마태복음 1:18-25

[18] 예수 그리스도의 나심은 이러하니라 그의 어머니 마리아가 요셉과 약혼하고 동거하기 전에 성령으로 잉태된 것이 나타났더니
[19] 그의 남편 요셉은 의로운 사람이라 그를 드러내지 아니하고 가만히 끊고자 하여
[20] 이 일을 생각할 때에 주의 사자가 현몽하여 이르되 다윗의 자손 요셉아 네 아내 마리아 데려오기를 무서워하지 말라 그에게 잉태된 자는 성령으로 된 것이라
[21] 아들을 낳으리니 이름을 예수라 하라 이는 그가 자기 백성을 그들의 죄에서 구원할 자이심이라 하니라
[22] 이 모든 일이 된 것은 주께서 선지자로 하신 말씀을 이루려 하심이니 이르시되
[23] 보라 처녀가 잉태하여 아들을 낳을 것이요 그의 이름은 임마누엘이라 하리라 하셨으니 이를 번역한즉 하나님이 우리와 함께 계시다 함이라
[24] 요셉이 잠에서 깨어 일어나 주의 사자의 분부대로 행하여 그의 아내를 데려왔으나
[25] 아들을 낳기까지 동침하지 아니하더니 낳으매 이름을 예수라 하니라
