[ 1 Timothy 6:6 - 6:10 ] - hymn 322 The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness. — 1 Timothy 6:10 An online survey conducted by a New York law firm reveals that 52 percent of Wall Street traders, brokers, investment bankers, and other financial service professionals have either engaged in illegal activity or believe they may need to do so in order to be successful. The survey concludes that these financial leaders ¡°have lost their moral compass¡±and ¡°accept corporate wrongdoing as a necessary evil.¡± In mentoring young Timothy, the apostle Paul warned that the love of money and the desire to get rich had caused some to lose their way. They had yielded to temptations and embraced many ¡°foolish and harmful¡±desires (1 Tim.6:9). Paul saw ¡°the love of money¡±(not money itself) as a source of ¡°all kinds of evil¡±(v.10), especially the evil of trusting in money rather than depending on Christ. As we learn to see that Christ is the source of all we have, we will fi-nd contentment in Him rather than in material possessions. When we seek godliness rather than riches, we will gain a desire to be faithful with what we have been given. Let¡¯s deliberately cultivate an attitude of contentment in God, and faithfully submit to Him, for our Provider will care for us. — Marvin Williams		[ 디모데전서 6:6 - 6:10 ] - 찬송가 322 장 돈을 사랑함이 일만 악의 뿌리가 되나니 이것을 탐내는 자들은 미혹을 받아 믿음에서 떠나 — 디모데전서 6:10 뉴욕의 한 법무법인이 실시한 인터넷 설문조사에 의하면, 뉴욕 월가에서 일하는 증권거래인, 브로커, 투자회사 직원, 그리고 그 밖의 금융서비스전문직 종사자들의 52퍼센트가 불법행위를 한 적이 있거나, 성공하기 위해서는 그렇게 해야만 한다고 믿고 있다고 합니다. 이 설문조사는 금융업계의 리더들이 “그들의 도덕적 나침반을 잃어 버렸으며, 기업의 부정행위를 필요악으로 받아들이고 있다.”라고 결론을 내립니다. 바울사도는 젊은 디모데를 가르치면서, 돈을 사랑하는 것과 부자가 되려는 욕망 때문에 바른 길에서 벗어난 사람들이 있다고 경고했습니다. 그들은 유혹에 넘어가 많은 “어리석고 해로운”욕심 가운데 빠졌습니다(딤전 6:9). 바울은 (돈 자체가 아니라) “돈을 사랑함”이 “일만 악”의 뿌리가 되며(10절), 특히 그리스도를 의지하는 것보다 돈을 더 신뢰하게 되는 악의 근원으로 보았습니다. 그리스도께서 우리가 가진 모든 것의 근원이 되심을 알게 되면, 우리가 소유하고 있는 물질에서 보다 그리스도 안에서 만족을 찾게 됩니다. 우리가 부유함보다는 경건한 삶을 추구할 때, 우리는 우리에게 주어진 것에 충실하려는 바람을 갖게 될 것입니다. 하나님으로 만족하는 마음가짐을 힘써 계발하고 신실한 마음으로 하나님께 복종합시다. 공급자 되시는 하나님이 우리를 돌보아주실 것입니다.

Father, it¡¯s easy to see the problem that others have with
loving money. But I know I have my own struggles too. I
need Your help to learn thankfulness for all that You have
given. Grow in me an attitude of contentment in You.

To love money is to lose sight of the Source of life.

1 Timothy 6:6-10

[6] Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
[7] For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
[8] And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
[9] But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
[10] For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

하나님 아버지, 다른 사람들이 돈을 사랑함으로 겪는 문제는 쉽게
눈에 띄지만, 저 자신도 바로 그 문제에서 헤어나지 못하고 있습니다.
제게 주신 모든 것에 감사하는 마음을 배우도록 도와주소서.
주님으로 만족하는 마음가짐이 제 안에서 자라나게 하소서.

돈을 사랑하면 삶의 근원이신 하나님의 관점을 잃게 된다.

디모데전서 6:6-10

[6] 그러나 자족하는 마음이 있으면 경건은 큰 이익이 되느니라
[7] 우리가 세상에 아무 것도 가지고 온 것이 없으매 또한 아무 것도 가지고 가지 못하리니
[8] 우리가 먹을 것과 입을 것이 있은즉 족한 줄로 알 것이니라
[9] 부하려 하는 자들은 시험과 올무와 여러 가지 어리석고 해로운 욕심에 떨어지나니 곧 사람으로 파멸과 멸망에 빠지게 하는 것이라
[10] 돈을 사랑함이 일만 악의 뿌리가 되나니 이것을 탐내는 자들은 미혹을 받아 믿음에서 떠나 많은 근심으로써 자기를 찔렀도다
