Working For The Wind		바람을 잡으려는 수고
[ Ecclesiastes 5:10 - 5:17 ] - hymn 246 What profit has he who has labored for the wind? — Ecclesiastes 5:16 Howard Levitt lost his $200,000 Ferrari on a flooded Toronto highway. He had driven into what seemed like a puddle before realizing that the water was much deeper and rising quickly. When the water reached the Ferrari¡¯s fenders, its 450-horsepower engine seized. Thankfully he was able to escape the car and get to high ground. Howard¡¯s soggy sports car reminds me of Solomon¡¯s observation that ¡°riches perish through misfortune¡±(Eccl.5:14). Natural disasters, theft, and accidents may claim our dearest belongings. Even if we manage to protect them, we certainly can¡¯t haul them with us to heaven (v.15). Solomon asked, ¡°What profit has he who has labored for the wind?¡±(v.16). There is futility in working only to acquire belongings that will ultimately disappear. There is something that doesn¡¯t spoil and we can ¡°take with us.¡± It is possible to store up eternal heavenly treasure. Pursuing virtues such as generosity (Matt.19:21), humility (5:3), and spiritual endurance (Luke 6:22-23) will yield lasting rewards that can¡¯t be destroyed. Will the kind of treasure you seek expire on earth? Or, are you seeking ¡°those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God¡±? (Col.3:1). — Jennifer Benson Schuldt		[ 전도서 5:10 - 5:17 ] - 찬송가 246 장 바람을 잡는 수고가 그에게 무엇이 유익하랴 — 전도서 5:16 하워드 레빗은 물이 범람한 토론토 고속도로에서 그의 20만 불짜리 페라리를 잃었습니다. 그는 그저 고인 물 정도라 생각하고 차를 달렸지만 생각보다 물은 더 깊었고 빨리 차올랐습니다. 물이 페라리의 범퍼까지 차오르자 450 마력의 엔진이 멈춰버렸습니다. 그러나 감사하게도 그는 차에서 벗어나 높은 땅 위로 피할 수 있었습니다. 물에 잠긴 하워드의 스포츠카 이야기는 나에게 “그 재물이 재난을 당할 때 없어지나니”(전 5:14)라고 한 솔로몬의 말을 생각나게 해줍니다. 자연 재해나 도둑, 그리고 사고로 인해 우리는 우리의 소중한 것들을 빼앗길 수 있습니다. 우리가 아무리 그것들을 보호하려고 할지라도 우리는 결코 그것들을 천국에 가져가지 못합니다(15절). 솔로몬은 “바람을 잡는 수고가 그에게 무엇이 유익하랴”(16절)라고 묻고 있습니다. 결국 없어져버릴 것들을 갖기 위하여 오로지 헛된 일만 하고 있는 것입니다. 그러나 상하지도 않고 우리가 “가져갈 수 있는”그 무엇이 있습니다. 영원한 하늘의 보화를 쌓는 일은 가능합니다. 관대함(마 19:21), 겸손(5:3), 그리고 영적인 인내(눅 6:22-23)와 같은 미덕을 추구하면 없어지지 않을 영원한 상급을 받게 될 것입니다. 당신은 이 땅에서 사라져버릴 종류의 보화를 추구하십니까, 아니면 “그리스도께서 하나님 우편에 앉아 계시는 위의 것”을 추구하십니까?(골 3:1).

Dear God, please give me a passion for the
unseen, eternal rewards that You offer.
Make me indifferent to the temporary
pleasures of this world.

Treasures on earth can¡¯t compare with the treasures in heaven.

Ecclesiastes 5:10-17

[10] He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.
[11] When goods increase, They increase who eat them; So what profit have the owners Except to see them with their eyes?
[12] The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, Whether he eats little or much; But the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep.
[13] There is a severe evil which I have seen under the sun: Riches kept for their owner to his hurt.
[14] But those riches perish through misfortune; When he begets a son, there is nothing in his hand.
[15] As he came from his mother's womb, naked shall he return, To go as he came; And he shall take nothing from his labor Which he may carry away in his hand.
[16] And this also is a severe evil--Just exactly as he came, so shall he go. And what profit has he who has labored for the wind?
[17] All his days he also eats in darkness, And he has much sorrow and sickness and anger.

사랑하는 하나님,
저에게 하나님이 주시는 보이지 않지만
영원한 상급에 대한 열정을 주시옵소서.
일시적인 세상의 쾌락에 무관심하게 해주시옵소서

세상의 보물은 천국에 있는 보물과 비교할 수 없다.

전도서 5:10-17

[10] 은을 사랑하는 자는 은으로 만족하지 못하고 풍요를 사랑하는 자는 소득으로 만족하지 아니하나니 이것도 헛되도다
[11] 재산이 많아지면 먹는 자들도 많아지나니 그 소유주들은 눈으로 보는 것 외에 무엇이 유익하랴
[12] 노동자는 먹는 것이 많든지 적든지 잠을 달게 자거니와 부자는 그 부요함 때문에 자지 못하느니라
[13] 내가 해 아래에서 큰 폐단 되는 일이 있는 것을 보았나니 곧 소유주가 재물을 자기에게 해가 되도록 소유하는 것이라
[14] 그 재물이 재난을 당할 때 없어지나니 비록 아들은 낳았으나 그 손에 아무것도 없느니라
[15] 그가 모태에서 벌거벗고 나왔은즉 그가 나온 대로 돌아가고 수고하여 얻은 것을 아무것도 자기 손에 가지고 가지 못하리니
[16] 이것도 큰 불행이라 어떻게 왔든지 그대로 가리니 바람을 잡는 수고가 그에게 무엇이 유익하랴
[17] 일평생을 어두운 데에서 먹으며 많은 근심과 질병과 분노가 그에게 있느니라
