A Possum¡¯s Pose		포섬의 죽은 체
[ 1 Samuel 28:5 - 28:6 ] - hymn 354 [The Lord] neither faints nor is weary. — Isaiah 40:28 Possums are known for their ability to play dead. When this happens, the possum¡¯s body wilts, its tongue flops out, and its heart rate declines. After about 15 minutes, the animal revives. Interestingly, animal experts do not believe that possums purposefully play dead to evade predators. They faint involuntarily when they become overwhelmed and anxious! King Saul had a similar response to danger at the end of his reign. Saul ¡°fell full length on the ground, and was dreadfully afraid . . . . And there was no strength in him¡±(1 Sam.28:20). He responded this way when the prophet Samuel told him that the Philistines would attack Israel on the next day, and that the Lord was not going to help him. Because Saul¡¯s life had been characterized by disobedience, rashness, and jealousy, God was no longer guiding him (v.16), and his efforts to defend himself and the Israelites would be futile (v.19). We may be in a place of weakness and despair because of our rebellion or because of the difficulties of life. Although anxiety can steal our strength, God can renew it as we lean on Him (Isa.40:31). He ¡°neither faints nor is weary¡±(v.28), and He is willing to reach down and revive us when we can¡¯t take another step. — Jennifer Benson Schuldt		[ 사무엘상 28:5 - 28:6 ] - 찬송가 354 장 [하나님 여호와는] 피곤하지 않으시며 곤비하지 않으시며 — 이사야 40:28 포섬은 죽은 체하는 능력이 있는 동물로 알려져 있습니다. 필요할 때면, 몸이 축 늘어지고 혀를 쭉 내밀며 심장박동이 줄어듭니다. 이런 후 15분 정도 지나면 다시 살아납니다. 흥미로운 것은 동물 전문가들은 포섬이 포식자들을 모면하려고 의도적으로 죽은 척하는 것이라고 믿지 않는다는 것입니다. 이 동물은 너무 당황하거나 신경이 곤두서면 무의식적으로 실신해버리는 겁니다. 사울왕은 그의 통치 마지막 무렵 위험에 처했을 때 비슷한 반응을 보였습니다. “사울이 갑자기 땅에 완전히 엎드러지니…심히 두려워함이요 또 그의 기력이 다하였으니”(삼상 28:20). 그는 사무엘 선지자가 그에게 블레셋 사람들이 다음 날 쳐들어올 것이며, 하나님이 그를 돕지 않을 것이라고 말하자 이와 같은 반응을 보였습니다. 사울의 인생이 불순종과 경솔함, 그리고 시기로 점철되었기에 하나님이 더 이상 그를 인도하지 않으시자(16절), 자신과 이스라엘을 지키고자 하는 그의 노력은 수포로 돌아가게 되었습니다(19절). 우리의 반항적인 태도나 삶의 역경 때문에 우리는 무력해지고 절망에 빠질 수도 있습니다. 하지만 비록 근심이 우리의 힘을 앗아갈지라도, 우리가 하나님께 의지하기만 하면 하나님은 우리의 힘을 새롭게 해주십니다(사 40:31). 하나님은 “피곤하지 않으시며 곤비하지 않으시며”(28절), 우리가 더 이상 나아갈 수 없을 때 기꺼이 우리에게 내려오셔서 우리를 다시 회복시켜 주십니다.

Jesus, You mean the world to me. You

the strength that You give from day to day.
I know that without You I am nothing.

1 Samuel 28:5-6, 15-20

[5] When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly.
[6] And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets

[15] Now Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" And Saul answered, "I am deeply distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me and does not answer me anymore, neither by prophets nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may reveal to me what I should do."
[16] Then Samuel said: "Why then do you ask me, seeing the LORD has departed from you and has become your enemy?
[17] "And the LORD has done for Himself as He spoke by me. For the LORD has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, David.
[18] "Because you did not obey the voice of the LORD nor execute His fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore the LORD has done this thing to you this day.
[19] "Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with you into the hand of the Philistines. And tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. The LORD will also deliver the army of Israel into the hand of the Philistines."
[20] Then immediately Saul fell full length on the ground, and was dreadfully afraid because of the words of Samuel. And there was no strength in him, for he had eaten no food all day or all night.

예수님, 주님은 나의 전부입니다.
주님은 나의 생명이요 나의 모든 것입니다.
주님께서 날마다 힘을 주시니 감사합니다.
주님 없이는 나는 아무것도 아님을 압니다.

[5] 사울이 블레셋 사람들의 군대를 보고 두려워서 그의 마음이 크게 떨린지라
[6] 사울이 여호와께 묻자오되 여호와께서 꿈으로도, 우림으로도, 선지자로도 그에게 대답하지 아니하시므로

[15] 사무엘이 사울에게 이르되 네가 어찌하여 나를 불러 올려서 나를 성가시게 하느냐 하니 사울이 대답하되 나는 심히 다급하니이다 블레셋 사람들은 나를 향하여 군대를 일으켰고 하나님은 나를 떠나서 다시는 선지자로도, 꿈으로도 내게 대답하지 아니하시기로 내가 행할 일을 알아보려고 당신을 불러 올렸나이다 하더라
[16] 사무엘이 이르되 여호와께서 너를 떠나 네 대적이 되셨거늘 네가 어찌하여 내게 묻느냐
[17] 여호와께서 나를 통하여 말씀하신 대로 네게 행하사 나라를 네 손에서 떼어 네 이웃 다윗에게 주셨느니라
[18] 네가 여호와의 목소리를 순종하지 아니하고 그의 진노를 아말렉에게 쏟지 아니하였으므로 여호와께서 오늘 이 일을 네게 행하셨고
[19] 여호와께서 이스라엘을 너와 함께 블레셋 사람들의 손에 넘기시리니 내일 너와 네 아들들이 나와 함께 있으리라 여호와께서 또 이스라엘 군대를 블레셋 사람들의 손에 넘기시리라 하는지라
[20] 사울이 갑자기 땅에 완전히 엎드러지니 이는 사무엘의 말로 말미암아 심히 두려워함이요 또 그의 기력이 다하였으니 이는 그가 하루 밤낮을 음식을 먹지 못하였음이니라
