More Of Him, Less Of Me		먼저 주님, 나중에 나
[ Philippians 3:1 - 3:11 ] - hymn 94 I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord. — Philippians 3:8 While I was pastoring a church early in my ministry, my daughter Libby asked me, ¡°Dad, are we famous?¡± To which I replied, ¡°No, Libby, we¡¯re not famous.¡± She thought for a moment and then said rather indignantly, ¡°Well, we would be if more people knew about us!¡± Poor Libby! Only 7 years old and already struggling with what many of us struggle with throughout life: Who recognizes us, and are we getting the recognition we think we deserve? Our desire for recognition wouldn¡¯t be such a problem if it didn¡¯t tend to replace Jesus as the focus of our attention. But being absorbed with ourselves crowds Him out of the picture. Life cannot be all about us and all about Jesus at the same time. This makes Paul¡¯s statement that he counted ¡°everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ¡±(Phil.3:8 esv) strategically important. Faced with a choice between himself and Jesus, Paul intentionally discarded the things that would draw attention to himself so he could concentrate on knowing and experiencing Jesus (vv.7-8,10). For us, the decision is the same. Will we live to draw attention to ourselves? Or will we focus on the privilege of knowing and experiencing Jesus more intimately? — Joe Stowell		[ 빌립보서 3:1 - 3:11 ] - 찬송가 94 장 또한 모든 것을 해로 여김은 내 주 그리스도 예수를 아는 지식이 가장 고상하기 때문이라 — 빌립보서 3:8 나의 목회사역 초기에 한 교회에서 섬길 때, 나의 딸 리비가 이렇게 물었습니다. “아빠, 우리 유명해요?”나는 대답했습니다. “아니, 유명하지 않아.”아이는 잠시 생각하더니 퉁명스럽게, “더 많은 사람들이 우리를 알게 되면 유명해질 텐데!”라고 말했습니다. 가엾은 리비! 아직 7살 밖에 안 됐지만, 많은 사람들이 가지려고 평생 애쓰는 것을 벌써부터 가지려고 애쓰고 있다니. 그것은 바로 “우리를 인정해 주는 게 누군지, 우리가 마땅히 받아야 할 인정을 받고 있는지”하는 것입니다. 만일 우리가 우리 관심의 초점을 예수님 이외의 것으로 바꾸지만 않는다면, 인정받고자 하는 마음은 그다지 문제 되지 않을 것입니다. 하지만 우리 자신에게 너무 빠져들게 되면 예수님을 관심 밖으로 밀어내버리게 됩니다. 삶이 전적으로 우리 것이기도 하면서 동시에 전적으로 예수님의 것일 수는 없습니다. 그러기에 “모든 것을 해로 여김은 내 주 그리스도 예수를 아는 지식이 가장 고상하기 때문이라”(빌 3:8)라고 한 바울의 진술은 전략적으로 중요합니다. 자신과 예수님 중 하나를 선택해야 하는 기로에서, 바울은 자신이 예수님을 알고 경험하는데 집중할 수 있도록 자신에게로 관심을 끄는 것들은 의도적으로 모두 버렸습니다(7-8, 10절). 우리도 같은 결심을 해야 합니다. 우리 자신을 드러내며 살 것입니까? 아니면 예수님을 더 긴밀히 알고 경험하는 특권을 추구할 것입니까?

Lord, thank You for reminding me of the
value of knowing You more intimately.
Help me to keep myself out of the way as
I pursue a deeper walk with You.

Do our choices bring honor to God or to us?

Philippians 3:1-11

[1] Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe.
[2] Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation!
[3] For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,
[4] though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so:
[5] circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee;
[6] concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
[7] But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.
[8] Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ
[9] and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;
[10] that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
[11] if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

주님, 주님을 좀 더 친밀하게 아는 것이
귀하다고 상기시켜 주시니 감사합니다.
제가 주님과 보다 깊은 교제를 하면서
저 자신이 방해물이 되지 않도록 도와주소서.

우리의 선택은 하나님의 영광을 위한 것인가,
아니면 우리를 위한 것인가?

빌립보서 3:1-11

[1] 끝으로 나의 형제들아 주 안에서 기뻐하라 너희에게 같은 말을 쓰는 것이 내게는 수고로움이 없고 너희에게는 안전하니라
[2] 개들을 삼가고 행악하는 자들을 삼가고 몸을 상해하는 일을 삼가라
[3] 하나님의 성령으로 봉사하며 그리스도 예수로 자랑하고 육체를 신뢰하지 아니하는 우리가 곧 할례파라
[4] 그러나 나도 육체를 신뢰할 만하며 만일 누구든지 다른 이가 육체를 신뢰할 것이 있는 줄로 생각하면 나는 더욱 그러하리니
[5] 나는 팔일 만에 할례를 받고 이스라엘 족속이요 베냐민 지파요 히브리인 중의 히브리인이요 율법으로는 바리새인이요
[6] 열심으로는 교회를 박해하고 율법의 의로는 흠이 없는 자라
[7] 그러나 무엇이든지 내게 유익하던 것을 내가 그리스도를 위하여 다 해로 여길뿐더러
[8] 또한 모든 것을 해로 여김은 내 주 그리스도 예수를 아는 지식이 가장 고상하기 때문이라 내가 그를 위하여 모든 것을 잃어버리고 배설물로 여김은 그리스도를 얻고
[9] 그 안에서 발견되려 함이니 내가 가진 의는 율법에서 난 것이 아니요 오직 그리스도를 믿음으로 말미암은 것이니 곧 믿음으로 하나님께로부터 난 의라
[10] 내가 그리스도와 그 부활의 권능과 그 고난에 참여함을 알고자 하여 그의 죽으심을 본받아
[11] 어떻게 해서든지 죽은 자 가운데서 부활에 이르려 하노니
