[ Revelation 22:12 - 22:21 ] - hymn 179 Surely I am coming quickly. — Revelation 22:20 In a German prison camp in World War II, undiscovered by the guards, some Americans built a homemade radio. One day news came that the German high command had surrendered, ending the war. Because of a communications breakdown, however, the guards did not yet know this. As word spread among the prisoners, a loud celebration broke out. For 3 days, they sang, waved at guards, and shared jokes over meals. On the fourth day, they awoke to find that all the Germans had fled. Their waiting had come to an end. A number of Bible stories center on waiting: Abraham waiting for a child (Gen.12–21). The Israelites waiting for deliverance from Egypt. Prophets waiting for the fulfillment of their own predictions. The disciples waiting for Jesus to act like the powerful Messiah they anticipated. Jesus¡¯ final words at the end of Revelation are ¡°I am coming quickly,¡± followed by an urgent, echoing prayer, ¡°Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!¡±(22:20). For this, we still wait. Here¡¯s the question I ask myself: As we wait, why are we so often fearful and anxious? We can, like the Allied prisoners, act on the good news we say we believe. What is faith in God, after all, but believing in advance what will only make sense in reverse? — Philip Yancey		[ 요한계시록 22:12 - 22:21 ] - 찬송가 179 장 내가 진실로 속히 오리라 - 요한계시록 22:20 제2차 세계대전 때 독일의 한 포로수용소에서 미군 몇 명이 간수들 모르게 라디오를 직접 제작했습니다. 그들은 어느 날 독일의 최고사령부가 항복하고 전쟁이 끝났다는 뉴스를 듣게 되었습니다. 그러나 통신 두절로 간수들은 이 사실을 아직 알지 못했습니다. 그 뉴스가 포로들 사이에 퍼지자 큰 축하의 함성이 터져 나왔습니다. 3일 동안 그들은 노래하고, 간수들을 향해 손을 흔들며, 식사 시간에 농담을 나누었습니다. 4일째 되는 날 아침에는 수용소에 있던 모든 독일인들이 도망가고 없다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 드디어 포로들의 기다림에 끝이 온 것입니다. 많은 성경 이야기들은 기다림을 중심으로 전개됩니다. 자식을 기다리는 아브라함(창 12-21장). 애굽으로부터의 해방을 기다리는 이스라엘백성들. 자신의 예언이 성취되기를 기다리는 선지자들. 자신들이 바라던 강력한 메시아와 같이 예수님이 행동하기를 기다리는 제자들. 요한계시록의 마지막 부분에 “내가 속히 오리라”라는 예수님의 마지막 말씀에, “아멘, 주 예수여 오시옵소서”라는 긴급하고 메아리치는 듯한 기도가 뒤이어 나옵니다(22:20). 이 때문에 우리는 아직 기다리고 있습니다. 나는 스스로에게 우리는 왜 기다리는 동안 그렇게 자주 두려워하고 염려할까 하고 물어보곤 합니다. 우리도 연합군 포로들이 했던 것처럼, 우리가 믿는다고 말하는 좋은 소식에 따라 행동해야 합니다. 하나님을 믿는다는 것은 결국 마지막에야 이해할 수 있는 것들을 미리 믿는 것이 아닐까요?

Faith looks beyond the shadow
Of dread and doubt and fear
And finds the Savior waiting

Waiting tries our faith and so we wait in hope.

Revelation 22:12-21

[12] "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.
[13] "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last."
[14] Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
[15] But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.
[16] "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star."
[17] And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
[18] For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;
[19] and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
[20] He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
[21] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

믿음은 공포와 의심과 두려움의
그림자 너머를 바라보는 것
구주께서 항상 가까이 서 계셔서
기다리고 계신다는 것을 아는 것

기다림은 우리의 믿음을 시험하는 것이기에
우리는 소망을 갖고 기다린다.

요한계시록 22:12-21

[12] 보라 내가 속히 오리니 내가 줄 상이 내게 있어 각 사람에게 그가 행한 대로 갚아 주리라
[13] 나는 알파와 오메가요 처음과 마지막이요 시작과 마침이라
[14] 자기 두루마기를 빠는 자들은 복이 있으니 이는 그들이 생명나무에 나아가며 문들을 통하여 성에 들어갈 권세를 받으려 함이로다
[15] 개들과 점술가들과 음행하는 자들과 살인자들과 우상 숭배자들과 및 거짓말을 좋아하며 지어내는 자는 다 성 밖에 있으리라
[16] 나 예수는 교회들을 위하여 내 사자를 보내어 이것들을 너희에게 증언하게 하였노라 나는 다윗의 뿌리요 자손이니 곧 광명한 새벽 별이라 하시더라
[17] 성령과 신부가 말씀하시기를 오라 하시는도다 듣는 자도 오라 할 것이요 목마른 자도 올 것이요 또 원하는 자는 값없이 생명수를 받으라 하시더라
[18] 내가 이 두루마리의 예언의 말씀을 듣는 모든 사람에게 증언하노니 만일 누구든지 이것들 외에 더하면 하나님이 이 두루마리에 기록된 재앙들을 그에게 더하실 것이요
[19] 만일 누구든지 이 두루마리의 예언의 말씀에서 제하여 버리면 하나님이 이 두루마리에 기록된 생명나무와 및 거룩한 성에 참여함을 제하여 버리시리라
[20] 이것들을 증언하신 이가 이르시되 내가 진실로 속히 오리라 하시거늘 아멘 주 예수여 오시옵소서
[21] 주 예수의 은혜가 모든 자들에게 있을지어다 아멘
