The Parable Of The Sting		벌침의 비유
[ 1 Peter 2:9 - 2:12 ] - hymn 503 They may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation. —1 Peter 2:12 I can still see Jay Elliott¡¯s shocked face as I burst through his front door almost 50 years ago with a ¡°gang¡± of bees swirling around me. As I raced out his back door, I realized the bees were gone. Well, sort of—I¡¯d left them in Jay¡¯s house! Moments later, he came racing out his back door—chased by the bees I had brought to him. I had more than a dozen stings, with little effect. Jay had a different experience. Though he¡¯d been stung only once or twice by ¡°my¡± bees, his eyes and throat swelled up in a painful allergic reaction. My actions had caused a lot of pain for my friend. That¡¯s a picture of what¡¯s true in our interpersonal relationships too. We hurt others when our actions aren¡¯t Christlike. Even after an apology, the ¡°sting¡± sticks. People would be right to expect an absence of harshness and an air of patience from those who follow Christ. We forget sometimes that people struggling with faith, or life, or both, watch Christians with expectation. They hope to see less anger and more mercy, less judgment and more compassion, less criticism and more encouragement. Jesus and Peter told us to live good lives so God is given the glory(Matt.5:16; 1 Peter 2:12). May our actions and reactions point those around us to our loving Father. — Randy Kilgore		[ 베드로전서 2:9 - 2:12 ] - 찬송가 503 장 너희 선한 일을 보고 오시는 날에 하나님께 영광을 돌리게 하려 함이라 - 베드로전서 2:12 약 50년 전, 내 주변을 맴돌던 벌떼에 쫓겨 제이 엘리엇의 집 현관문을 박차고 들어갔을 때의 그의 놀란 얼굴이 아직도 눈에 선합니다. 내가 그 집 뒷문으로 빠져나왔을 때 벌들이 모두 사라지고 없다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 그렇게 보였지만, 사실은 내가 벌떼를 제이의 집에 남겨놓았던 것이었습니다. 잠시 후에 그 역시 나를 따라온 벌들에 쫓겨 뒷문 밖으로 뛰어나왔습니다. 나는 열 군데 이상을 쏘였지만 별 문제가 없었습니다. 그런데 제이는 달랐습니다. 그는 “내” 벌들에게 한두 군데 정도 쏘였을 뿐인데도 눈과 목이 고통스런 알레르기 반응으로 부어올랐습니다. 나 때문에 친구가 심한 고통을 당한 것입니다. 이런 모습은 우리의 인간관계에서도 실제로 일어납니다. 우리의 행동이 그리스도를 닮지 않을 때 우리는 다른 사람들에게 상처를 줍니다. 사과를 할지라도 “벌에 쏘인 상처”는 그대로 남습니다. 그리스도인들이 따뜻하고 인내심이 있기를 사람들이 바라는 것은 정당한 일입니다. 신앙이나 삶 때문에, 혹은 두 가지 모두 때문에 힘겨워하는 사람들이 그런 기대를 가지고 그리스도인들을 바라본다는 것을 우리는 때때로 잊어버립니다. 그들은 우리에게서 분노보다는 자비를, 판단보다는 동정을, 비판보다는 격려를 보기를 더 기대합니다. 예수님과 베드로는 선한 삶을 살아 하나님께 영광을 돌리라고 우리에게 말했습니다(마 5:16; 벧전 2:12). 우리의 이웃들이 우리의 행동과 반응을 보고 사랑하는 하나님 아버지께로 향할 수 있게 되기를 바랍니다.

We have found that it¡¯s easy to hurt others
with our words or actions. Teach us, Father,
to pause and to think before we speak or act.
Fill us with kindness and care.

May others see less of me and more of Jesus.

1 Peter 2:9-12

[9] But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
[10] who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
[11] Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,
[12] having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.

우리의 말과 행동이 다른 사람들에게 쉽게 상처를 준다는 것을
깨달았습니다. 하나님 아버지, 우리가 말하거나 행동하기 전에
잠시 멈추어 생각하게 해주소서. 친절과 배려하는 마음으로
우리를 채워주소서.

사람들이 내게서 내 모습은 적게 보고,
예수님의 모습을 많이 보게 하소서.

베드로전서 2:9-12

[9] 그러나 너희는 택하신 족속이요 왕 같은 제사장들이요 거룩한 나라요 그의 소유가 된 백성이니 이는 너희를 어두운 데서 불러 내어 그의 기이한 빛에 들어가게 하신 이의 아름다운 덕을 선포하게 하려 하심이라
[10] 너희가 전에는 백성이 아니더니 이제는 하나님의 백성이요 전에는 긍휼을 얻지 못하였더니 이제는 긍휼을 얻은 자니라
[11] 사랑하는 자들아 거류민과 나그네 같은 너희를 권하노니 영혼을 거슬러 싸우는 육체의 정욕을 제어하라
[12] 너희가 이방인 중에서 행실을 선하게 가져 너희를 악행한다고 비방하는 자들로 하여금 너희 선한 일을 보고 오시는 날에 하나님께 영광을 돌리게 하려 함이라
