Example That Encourages		격려가 되는 본보기
[ 2 Timothy 2:1 - 2:7 ] - hymn 212 I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet .... I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. — John 13:14-15 The story is told that in the late 1800s a group of European pastors attended D. L. Moody¡¯s Bible conference in Massachusetts. Following their custom, they put their shoes outside their room before they slept, expecting them to be cleaned by hotel workers. When Moody saw the shoes, he mentioned the need to others because he knew their custom. But he was met with silence. Moody collected all the shoes and cleaned them himself. A friend who made an unexpected visit to his room revealed what Moody had done. The word spread, and the next few nights others took turns doing the cleaning. Moody¡¯s leadership style of humility inspired others to follow his example. The apostle Paul reminded Timothy to ¡°be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others¡±(2 Tim.2:1-2 niv). When we remember that our strength is a result of God¡¯s grace, that keeps us humble. Then in humility we pass on God¡¯s truth by being an example that encourages and inspires others to follow. Jesus Himself is our example of servanthood. He gave His very life for us. — Albert Lee		[ 디모데후서 2:1 - 2:7 ] - 찬송가 212 장 내가 주와 또는 선생이 되어 너희 발을 씻었으니…내가 너희에게 행한 것 같이 너희도 행하게 하려 하여 본을 보였노라 - 요한복음 13:14-15 이런 이야기가 전해 내려오고 있습니다. 1800년대 말에 한 그룹의 유럽 목사들이 매사추세츠 주에서 열린 디엘 무디의 성경집회에 참석했습니다. 그들은 자기들의 관습대로, 호텔직원이 구두를 닦아줄 거라고 기대하고 취침 전 방 앞에 구두들을 내놓았습니다. 그들의 관습을 알고 있었던 무디는 구두를 보고 호텔직원들에게 사정을 설명해주었지만 아무런 반응도 얻지 못했습니다. 그래서 무디는 모든 구두를 모아서 자기가 직접 닦았습니다. 우연히 무디의 방에 들렀던 친구가 벌어진 상황을 알게 되었습니다. 곧 이야기가 퍼지고, 그 후 며칠 동안은 다른 목사들이 번갈아가며 구두를 닦았습니다. 무디의 겸손에서 우러난 리더십은 다른 사람들에게 그를 본보기로 따르도록 감동을 주었습니다. 바울사도도 디모데에게 다음과 같이 상기시켰습니다. “그러므로 너는 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 은혜 가운데서 강하고 또 네가 많은 증인 앞에서 내게 들은 바를 충성된 사람들에게 부탁하라 그들이 또 다른 사람들을 가르칠 수 있으리라”(딤후 2:1-2). 우리의 힘이 하나님의 은혜의 결과라는 사실을 기억할 때 우리는 겸손해집니다. 그리고 겸손한 가운데 다른 사람들이 따라할 수 있도록 그들을 격려하고 감화를 줄 수 있는 본보기가 됨으로써, 우리는 하나님의 진리를 전달하게 됩니다. 예수님 자신이 우리에게 섬김의 본보기를 보여주셨습니다. 주님은 우리를 위해 바로 자신의 생명을 내어주셨습니다.

Lord Jesus, I know little about humility.
Show me and teach me as I read about Your
example in Your Word. Give me the grace
to humble myself and serve others.

Humility is the result of knowing God and knowing yourself.

2 Timothy 2:1-7

[1] You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
[2] And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
[3] You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
[4] No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.
[5] And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.
[6] The hard-working farmer must be first to partake of the crops.
[7] Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.

주 예수님, 저는 겸손에 대해서 잘 알지 못합니다.
주님의 말씀 속에서 주님이 보여주신 본보기를 제가 읽을 때
저에게 겸손을 보여주시고 가르쳐주소서. 제 자신을 낮추고
남을 섬길 수 있도록 은혜를 내려주소서.

겸손은 하나님을 알고 나 자신을 아는 데서 온다.

디모데후서 2:1-7

[1] 내 아들아 그러므로 너는 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 은혜 가운데서 강하고
[2] 또 네가 많은 증인 앞에서 내게 들은 바를 충성된 사람들에게 부탁하라 그들이 또 다른 사람들을 가르칠 수 있으리라
[3] 너는 그리스도 예수의 좋은 병사로 나와 함께 고난을 받으라
[4] 병사로 복무하는 자는 자기 생활에 얽매이는 자가 하나도 없나니 이는 병사로 모집한 자를 기쁘게 하려 함이라
[5] 경기하는 자가 법대로 경기하지 아니하면 승리자의 관을 얻지 못할 것이며
[6] 수고하는 농부가 곡식을 먼저 받는 것이 마땅하니라
[7] 내가 말하는 것을 생각해 보라 주께서 범사에 네게 총명을 주시리라
