Broken But Beautiful		부서졌지만 아름다운
[ Jeremiah 18:1 - 18:6 ] - hymn 549 [The vessel] was marred ... ; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make. — Jeremiah 18:4 Recently, my daughter showed me her collection of sea glass. Also known as beach glass, the varied bits of colored glass are sometimes pieces of pottery but often they are pieces of shattered glass bottles. Originally the glass had a purpose, but then it was casually thrown away and became broken. If the discarded glass ends up in an ocean, its journey is just beginning. As it is relentlessly tossed about by currents and tides, its jagged edges are ground down by the sand and waves and eventually are smoothed away and rounded off. The result is something beautiful. The jewel-like sea glass has found new life and is treasured by collectors and artists. In a similar way, a broken life can be renewed when it is touched by God¡¯s love and grace. In the Old Testament, we read that when the prophet Jeremiah watched a potter working, he noticed that if an object was marred the potter simply reshaped it (Jer.18:1-6). God explained that in His hands the people of ancient Israel were like clay, which He would shape as He saw best. We are never too badly broken for God to reshape. He loves us in spite of our imperfections and past mistakes, and He desires to make us beautiful. — Cindy Hess Kasper		[ 예레미야 18:1 - 18:6 ] - 찬송가 549 장 [그릇이]…터지매 그가 그것으로 자기 의견에 좋은 대로 다른 그릇을 만들더라 - 예레미야 18:4 최근에 딸아이가 그동안 바닷가에서 모아놓았던 유리조각들을 내게 보여주었습니다. ‘해변유리’라고 알려진, 색깔을 띤 다양한 조각들은 가끔은 도자기 조각들도 있지만, 대부분은 깨어진 유리병 조각들입니다. 그 유리들은 본래 용도가 있었던 것들이었지만, 무심코 내버려져 부서진 것입니다. 버려진 유리조각들이 바다 속으로 들어가게 되면 새로운 역사가 시작됩니다. 유리조각들은 해류나 조수에 의해 끊임없이 이리저리 밀리면서 날카롭던 가장자리가 모래나 파도에 의해 닳아 모서리들이 부드럽게 마모되고, 그 결과 아름다운 것으로 변합니다. 보석과 같은 해변유리는 이제 새로운 삶을 갖게 되어, 수집가들이나 예술가들의 귀중한 수집품이 됩니다. 이와 마찬가지로, 깨어진 삶도 하나님의 사랑과 은혜로 만져질 때 새롭게 될 수 있습니다. 구약성경에 나오는 예레미야 선지자는 토기장이가 손상된 그릇을 다른 모양의 그릇으로 만드는 것을 보았습니다(렘 18:1-6). 하나님은 고대 이스라엘백성들은 하나님 손 안에 놓인 진흙과 같아서 하나님 보시기에 최상의 것으로 빚을 것이라고 설명하셨습니다. 우리의 삶이 아무리 심하게 깨어졌다 할지라도 하나님은 다시 빚으실 수 있습니다. 우리의 허물과 과거에 저지른 잘못에도 불구하고, 하나님은 우리를 사랑하셔서 우리를 아름답게 빚고자 하십니다.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay;
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still. — Pollard

When melted by trial, we can be fully molded by the Potter.

Jeremiah 18:1-6

[1] The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying:
[2] "Arise and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause you to hear My words."
[3] Then I went down to the potter's house, and there he was, making something at the wheel.
[4] And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.
[5] Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying:
[6] "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?" says the LORD. "Look, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!

주님은 토기장이요 나는 진흙이니
주님, 주님의 뜻대로, 주님의 뜻대로 하소서!
순종하는 마음으로 조용히 기다리오니
주님의 뜻대로 나를 빚으시고 만들어주소서

시련으로 녹아내릴 때, 우리는 토기장이이신 하나님에 의해
완전히 새로 빚어질 수 있다.

예레미야 18:1-6

[1] 여호와께로부터 예레미야에게 임한 말씀에 이르시되
[2] 너는 일어나 토기장이의 집으로 내려가라 내가 거기에서 내 말을 네게 들려 주리라 하시기로
[3] 내가 토기장이의 집으로 내려가서 본즉 그가 녹로로 일을 하는데
[4] 진흙으로 만든 그릇이 토기장이의 손에서 터지매 그가 그것으로 자기 의견에 좋은 대로 다른 그릇을 만들더라
[5] 그 때에 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하니라 이르시되
[6] 여호와의 말씀이니라 이스라엘 족속아 이 토기장이가 하는 것 같이 내가 능히 너희에게 행하지 못하겠느냐 이스라엘 족속아 진흙이 토기장이의 손에 있음 같이 너희가 내 손에 있느니라
