[ Jeremiah 6:13 - 6:20 ] - hymn 379 Ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls. — Jeremiah 6:16 You may have heard the saying, ¡°The past is supposed to be a guidepost, not a hitching post.¡± It¡¯s easy to become tied to memories of ¡°the good old days¡± instead of using our experiences to find direction for the road ahead. We are all susceptible to the paralyzing effects of nostalgia—a longing for what used to be. Jeremiah was a priest from a small town near Jerusalem when God called him to be ¡°a prophet to the nations¡±(Jer.1:5). He was given the very difficult job of pronouncing God¡¯s judgment primarily on the people of Judah, who had turned away from the Lord. Jeremiah made it clear that he was delivering God¡¯s message, not his own (7:1-2). The Lord said, ¡°Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ¡®We will not walk in it¡¯¡±(6:16). God urged His people to look back so they could move ahead. The purpose of considering the ancient paths was to find ¡°the good way¡± marked by God¡¯s faithfulness, His forgiveness, and His forward call. God¡¯s guidance in the past gives courage for the future.

Jeremiah 6:13-20

[13] "Because from the least of them even to the greatest of them, Everyone is given to covetousness; And from the prophet even to the priest, Everyone deals falsely.
[14] They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly, Saying, 'Peace, peace!' When there is no peace.
[15] Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No! They were not at all ashamed; Nor did they know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; At the time I punish them, They shall be cast down," says the LORD.
[16] Thus says the LORD: "Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'
[17] Also, I set watchmen over you, saying, 'Listen to the sound of the trumpet!' But they said, 'We will not listen.'
[18] Therefore hear, you nations, And know, O congregation, what is among them.
[19] Hear, O earth! Behold, I will certainly bring calamity on this people--The fruit of their thoughts, Because they have not heeded My words, Nor My law, but rejected it.
[20] For what purpose to Me Comes frankincense from Sheba, And sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, Nor your sacrifices sweet to Me."

저 미래에 예비되어
나를 기다리는 것 무엇인지 알 수 없으나
전부터 자주 증명했던 바
하나님은 신실하신 분이라는 것을 아네

지난 날 하나님의 인도하심이
미래를 헤쳐 나갈 용기를 준다.

예레미야 6:13-20

[13] 이는 그들이 가장 작은 자로부터 큰 자까지 다 탐욕을 부리며 선지자로부터 제사장까지 다 거짓을 행함이라
[14] 그들이 내 백성의 상처를 가볍게 여기면서 말하기를 평강하다 평강하다 하나 평강이 없도다
[15] 그들이 가증한 일을 행할 때에 부끄러워하였느냐 아니라 조금도 부끄러워 하지 않을 뿐 아니라 얼굴도 붉어지지 않았느니라 그러므로 그들이 엎드러지는 자와 함께 엎드러질 것이라 내가 그들을 벌하리니 그 때에 그들이 거꾸러지리라 여호와의 말씀이니라
[16] 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 너희는 길에 서서 보며 옛적 길 곧 선한 길이 어디인지 알아보고 그리로 가라 너희 심령이 평강을 얻으리라 하나 그들의 대답이 우리는 그리로 가지 않겠노라 하였으며
[17] 내가 또 너희 위에 파수꾼을 세웠으니 나팔 소리를 들으라 하나 그들의 대답이 우리는 듣지 않겠노라 하였도다
[18] 그러므로 너희 나라들아 들으라 무리들아 그들이 당할 일을 알라
[19] 땅이여 들으라 내가 이 백성에게 재앙을 내리리니 이것이 그들의 생각의 결과라 그들이 내 말을 듣지 아니하며 내 율법을 거절하였음이니라
[20] 시바에서 유향과 먼 곳에서 향품을 내게로 가져옴은 어찌함이냐 나는 그들의 번제를 받지 아니하며 그들의 희생제물을 달게 여기지 않노라
